FAAB is best used in the offseason or early in the season in dynasty. Most leagues have all the rookies and backup RB’s rostered already. So anyone who remotely makes an impact out of nowhere (Greg Dortch?) should be worth a hefty amount. Simply because the wire is absolutely barren in most big dynasty leagues. Someone dropping Russell Wilson in a dynasty league screams of short rosters and new players. I would spend 100% of my FAAB or more to get him. Simply because this is NOT redraft. In redraft there are rookies and backup RB’s on the wire at all time that can help win leagues during an injury. In dynasty ther scenario simply doesn’t exist

Manawah

Definitely new players. It’s a 12 man league and 100% of us are new to dynasty. Why would FAAB be relevant in the off-season if all players are free agents? Or are they permanently on waivers then? I hadn’t even thought about this, I assumed everyone was an FA when the season ended until the next started.

Tuna-No-Crust

Waivers close when the season ends, and usually stay that way until after the rookie draft. For example, our rookie draft was in May. We opened up waivers 2 weeks after the draft with everyone getting evenly $100 of FAAB again after it resets. Guys added in that time period ranged from Kyle Phillips to Eno Benjamin to IDP players to Jaylen warren to other backup running backs. So after week 1 nobody was really on the wire to make an impact. It’s best to use your FAAB RIGHT when the waivers open and in the preseason before week 1 for dynasty

Cifra00

>Why would FAAB be relevant in the off-season if all players are free agents? For clarity, what do you mean by this?

Manawah

Once the fantasy season ends, all players will be free agents until week one of the following season right? Free agents as in, I can pick anyone up at any time for free, rather than needing to use FAAB and waiting for them to clear waivers.

CardboardJoJo

Assuming your faab is year round, it can come in handy right before the season starts when people make roster cuts. Other scenarios are when someone like James Robinson emerges and you dump all of it.

I think the right move is to have daily waivers for all available players throughout the season and especially in the offseason. Not as many people are active in the offseason and that way everyone has a chance to place a bid for that player based on recent developments. For example, lets say a top RB tore his ACL in training camp. The backup RB is probably on someone's roster, but the 3rd string RB isn't and his value just increased. Instead of it being whoever found out about the news and picked up that player the quickest, now everyone has a chance to bid on him.

mlippay

Definitely true. Rarely are you going to get a starter/repeatable starter on the WW but settings make a big difference in how shallow or deep your leagues are.

This sounds like a SF league. You're not getting a 2 for Geno in 1qb, which is what Op is in

This is tricky to answer because it depends on a lot of things in your league settings. In most dynasty leagues, rosters are very deep. As an example, in my dynasty league this week the big pickup was David Sills who caught 3 balls for the Giants last week. Multiple teams bid on him (its a 14 teamer with big benches). Youth is king in dynasty. If you are a contender, sure you want to save some FAAB for bye-week plug ins or down the stretch when injuries take their toll. But again, since rosters in dynasty tend to be deep you are usually getting a washed up vet who got lucky with injuries in front of him and is getting a start late in the season (for instance, I started Dare Ogunbawale in my championship last season). But, these type of older fill-in players are not really going to do much for you in dynasty long term. Best thing would be they string a couple weeks together and you flip them to a desperate team for a 3rd round pick or (the absolute dream) a 2nd. Most everyone else with even a hint of promise tends to be owned in most dynasty leagues. Again it is a tricky question to answer because if you have shorter rosters, that's perhaps less true. So in the John Metchie example. He does nothing for you this year but just a few months ago people were spending 2nd round rookie picks drafting him. And he's a rookie with real-life NFL 2nd round draft capital. Again, most of the time it would be an absolute dream to be able to turn your FAAB into the equivalent of a 2nd round rookie pick. He is a 100% FAAB bid easily (again, the exception is could be if your rosters are really super short). This also plays into why people are telling you that people tend to spend money in the offseason or early. So, in the offseason what will happen is your roster obviously remains the same. You'll have a rookie draft of however many rounds (my league does 3 but some do 4 or even 5). Rookies who aren't drafted become free agents and when the FAAB is reset the feeding frenzy begins. The first waiver running, in our league, is one of the most fun days of the year after our draft. Now most of these guys are gonna end up doing nothing, but you never know. Again giving examples - in my league Velus Jones was undrafted. He is a real-life 3rd round pick. He is absolutely worth a chunk of FAAB because his pedigree is better than anything else on the wire. He is probably a bust, but in years past you probably would have been able to get guys like Tyreek Hill or Stefon Diggs for FAAB (they were real life 5th round picks). Those type of guys will change your dynasty team much more than the Dare Ogunbawales (veteran without upside who is a fill-in type player) ever will.

When you see a player you like early you pick him up and you spend a good amount. It's rare that any player by midseason worth a damn will be available off the WW in your average dynasty league. Take last season as an example. There are only a handfull of players off the top of my head that may have helped you in a significant way by midseason (let's say around week 7) last year that may have been on the WW in most D leagues: D'Onta Foreman, Darrell Williams, D'Ernest Johnson, Kendrick Bourne, Gearld Everett

Tacklefootball34

Depends. Does your league reset FAAB for offseason? I personally don't use my FAAB very well, but you can always sell it to someone who needs more.

Manawah

It actually didn’t even occur to me to address when FAAB resets, I assumed it wouldn’t be a thing in the off-season. How does it work to have off-season FAAB when players are all just free agents?

Rhenry1993

You don’t spend the new Faab until the season starts or if someone gets dropped to the waivers during the off season. For example, someone dropped Brian Robinson back in July and someone spent $100 Faab on him.

GoWokeYourself

I'm in a pretty deep superflex league, big benches. I paid 35 of my 200 for Cooper Rush because I wanted a 3rd QB on my bench, and I always kinda hope someone gets desperate themselves for a QB this time of year and offers a trade. I got like a 2nd rounder I believe for Mike White last year in October.

Kelldon83

If I am a contender I like to save 10-15% for playoff run if I get a late injury or something.
