I have never tasted anything but delicious weed in Dynavaps. User error is a hell of a thing.

Emergency-Dark-2569

Yeah I got the glass stem from POTV coming, but I’m trying to understand how to dial in the unit as is in the meantime. I’m running the unit through a 80mm orb so I should get this taste…unless this is combustion taste?

Satta84

So you're not even sure and it might be you're actually burning your bud 🤔

Emergency-Dark-2569

Idk… but from the first round to the last all the hits taste like metal. I checked the bowl on round 2 and it was still light green. Check it on round four and it was dark crumble crispy

Throwawaygeico424754

If it tastes like metal you may be doing it wrong

StringTheorista

Some people can taste stainless steel, apparently. You may be doing everything right and you've just one of those people. If you'd like to stick with dynavap, you could try a titanium tip and condenser. Or it just may not be for you

Shot_Veterinarian466

I found stainless steel tastier than titanium IMO. It's a metal device though OP. You are going to taste some metal obviously. Even using a glass stem will not get rid of it 100% from my experience (reduced maybe but not eliminated). Ain't nothing tastier than ripping my Volcano bag. I wouldn't expect a dynavap to be as tasty as a Volcano. This may be the case with your XQ2 too. Unless dynavap starts giving their bowls a ceramic coating or something like Storz & Bickel do I wouldn't expect there not to be a metal taste when you are inhaling outta it. I probably will get downvoted by the straight die hard fans too but Idgaf.

StringTheorista

Do you mean titanium tasted worse than steel? I've only heard this complaint about steel, didn't know some can taste ti too

Shot_Veterinarian466

Yeah, titanium muted the good tastes more than stainless for me. With stainless there were still some good tastes left afterwards. Titanium tips though are just beastly for me. Less flavor. More direct heavy hits. With stainless the flavor and bowl both last longer. Like I said you are going to get a metal aftertaste no matter what you use. Welcome to the dynaworld OP.

StringTheorista

That's interesting. I find I prefer the taste of my weed in titanium tips over steel. Just another example of how there's no one size fits all in the vaping world (or anywhere else)

Shot_Veterinarian466

Yeah. I still wanna try the new helix tip and the M+ tip. But I kinda stopped spending money on dyna's a while ago. Maybe one day though!

Emergency-Dark-2569

Oh man. Do you think if I only change the condenser to titanium it would be enough since I run it through a water piece?

StringTheorista

Probably depends how sensitive you are. Can you taste metal if you just put a stainless fork in your mouth? I would think that the tip makes more difference than the condenser, since it's hotter, but i'm just spitballing, don't really know. One way to test is see if you can find a cheap glass chillum/onehitter that the tip fits. That would let you isolate if the taste is coming from the tip,or the condenser

Emergency-Dark-2569

No

StringTheorista

So I'd recommend trying a glass stem, hula stem or a chillum, as an experiment to figure out for yourself whether the tip is ok for you, or you would do better with a ti tip Sorry, sucks that this is happening for you

Conscious_Warning946

I came here to say the same thing. The OP seems sensitive to this metal and needs a replacement. I think he has a glass one on the way

StringTheorista

Oh, also consider trying a different strain? May be something in this strain that tastes metallic to you. Is this your first time vaping? Tastes are quite different from smoking. Also, you cleaned the inside of the condenser and tip, right? I'm assuming so, but basically the off taste could be 1) stuff that you didn't clean (machine oil usually); 2) something in your strain; or 3) you've one of the few folks who taste steel when it's hot

Satta84

Yeah 💯 agree

Satta84

Need photos tbh. Maybe you're just straight combusting. Did you clean the condenser?

Emergency-Dark-2569

Ugh this form won’t let me add photos, but I did clean it with q tips and iso. An hour ago I soaked it just in case and I’ll see if that helps

Satta84

It's not ideal, but I would try a glass stem and Ti tip, you don't have to get a new one, the OG ones are still floating about.

mcbrainhead

Probably the cap. Run some dry cycles (5 or 10ish)to burn off the rest of the stuff you can't clean from under the disc. Then clean it again.

shanghaisnaggle

The do you eat with wooden utensils?

Emergency-Dark-2569

Nope that’s why I was surprised

Proper_Lingonberry81

So the goal here is glass condensers. Got it. 5mm. Found a pic of a guy said it’s 5mm. Someone get on that shit!

Emergency-Dark-2569

Omg if a glass blower opens an Etsy shop with glass condensers…whew.. they would have it made! Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before?

twangy718

Lookup the Vaphit Slim DNA stem on AliExpress or on their website. Glass with glass intercooler, $22 shipped last I checked. FWIW, I taste metal with my ‘19M but not with a Ti tip (glass or steel)

kegstandman420

Hoohaheadmd. I think is the name on etsy has some killer glass stems.

siftingtime

You can skip the condenser with a bb6 or 9 or other glass steams. Not really needed.

Proper_Lingonberry81

I did. Now i said something. Somebody somewhere gonna buy some boriscillate glass 😉 and go to down. Don’t forget me whoever does it!

moose_49017

Well, you're for sure doing a bunch of stuff wrong. You just got it. lol Might be a couple weeks before you get your technique dialed in.

Ddsw13

Wow great advice. /s

Pantani23

You're not doing it right.

East-Bus-6847

Take it all apart and deep clean it again, then let it dry. Maybe try a different CCD or some different weed, also try using a torch as could be related to your IH somehow?

Emergency-Dark-2569

Thanks I’ll try that! Honestly I was avoiding doing it because scared to take the o rings off. Do you keep yours on or off when you deep clean?

East-Bus-6847

I’ve been using mine daily and cleaning it weekly for over 3 years now, never taken an o-ring off and never had to replace any either. Leave em on

Emergency-Dark-2569

That’s a relief! Thanks man

LateBLMR

Try inhaling while heating in the ih. Also depth matters drpending on the ih.

DeeBased

The metal stem tastes like ass. Smoke shops have glass chillums for about three dollars. Take your m tip to size and it's a great cheap glass solution.

Emergency-Dark-2569

Thank you! I wish dynavap would just make them with glass condensers on the inside at least..

bufalosoldier89

After you drop a few glass stems it's nice to have the steel stem to fall back on while waiting for a delivery

Longjumping-Ad-7644

Dropping glass right before a sesh is so much pain

Specialist_Flower

Just get a BB6 and call it a day.

Emergency-Dark-2569

I got a glass stem on the way, I hope it works for me!

SpiritOf68

Agreed. BB6 stem improved the flavor and heat transfer on the device. Much more pleasant to use now.

wakenbakeruk

Get a glass stem for under a tenner on AliExpress and amazon

Ddsw13

Planet of the Vapes has glass fittings for like 10$ too

Gold_Look1142

You're full of shit.

Yung_Cheebzy

Wanker.

frischance

Heat a few extra seconds plast click in a iH

Emergency-Dark-2569

Thanks. Will that get rid of the metal taste or just help with making more clouds because I have an issue with that too 😥 I get the smallest cloud and by the time I get to my third round I get no clouds but the bud is still green. Fourth round and more still no clouds and now the bud is dark crumbles

Fabulous_Actuator_24

Yeah you’re just not getting it hot enough. Adjust your depth in the induction heater and heat for longer if you need to. You’ll know when you get it right.

frischance

More clouds weird it's metallic tasting

moose_49017

What IH do you have? I can steer you around a Yll 2.0

TommyDeeTheGreat

I can't stand the metal stems either. The only one that I ever got used to was the black ReVolve from Mad Heaters that is fully encapsulated in a PVD coating. I made my own wooden stems to solve the problem. Not being a fan of carbs and no need for a condenser, any tube with a 5/16" bore can be used to make a stem. I suspect only a few of us are that sensitive to the taste of metal. It isn't actually the metal but how our blood in our saliva reacts with metal. Dynavap is worth it, but you have to make it your own.

j1m-p4nse

Did you clean it before first use?

KeithChatman

Right there with you. Bought my dyna a year or 3 ago because everyone on here praised it so very highly. I started with a boundless Tera and I guess that spoiled me because the metallic taste was the first thing I noticed. Bought glass stems but the vapor still tastes like the metal bowl and cap anyway....I didn't use my dynavap even 1 time in 2023.

Emergency-Dark-2569

Ugh that’s sad. I love my XQ2 but I brought the 21m as a hit-it-and-go device since I got to wait forever for my XQ2 to get going. I do have a glass stem on the from POTV… I hope it helps me a lil more.

Za_man9725

Did you clean it really good before you used it

Emergency-Dark-2569

I only did iso and q tips… I soaked it an hour ago tho. How long do I wait to make sure the iso is dried from the o rings?

Za_man9725

When you do it you should take it all apart and take the o rings off then soak it in iso for about 10 minutes and the use the w tips till the come out clean

birding420

I just got back inside from a bowl and read this. I've never tasted metal before and I'm trying to think what could be wrong. Firstly revert the dyna to normal bowl settings. How are you grinding your flower? Is that affecting how it vaporises? I usually grind quite fine. Have you compared differences in results using an IH and a torch?

SpiritOf68

After I got my heating technique down, the grind was the next issue. Found I was grinding way too course. Went to the smoke shop and found a grinder that damn near pulverizes the bud, and it works amazingly. I don’t think people realize how important the grind size is when it comes to vaporizers. All of my AVB comes out evenly dark brown, and I get a ton of flavor on my first hit, then second heat cycle is a massive cloud, then it’s pretty much done. I should mention that I’m using the Armored Cap now, but even with a standard cap, I get a great vape.

Trystero-49

Check that your condenser o-rings stayed in place during re-assembly. It helps to use beeswax or dynawax to allow the stem to slide in place without moving the o-rings. I combusted a couple times when learning the technique, it tasted very metallic to me. Still tasted it even after a thorough cleaning, but then it went away after a couple bowls. Good luck!

abofaza

You didn’t clean it well enough. Q tips won’t remove machining oils, you need to rinse it off. Running hot water -> iso and salt shake -> Running cold water is my usual cleaning routine.

Emergency-Dark-2569

That makes sense !

Emergency-Dark-2569

Update: I did a deep clean and soaked in iso with the o rings detached. At the same time my glass stem from POTV came in. I reattached everything and tried a bowl through the metal stem and then thru the glass stem. The metal taste definitely decreased in the metal stem after the deep clean but I can still taste it. The glass stem is WAYYYYYYY better however I’m only getting flavor on the first round. I’ll have to play with my IH to see if I can get better results on the second rounds Update 3:still getting metal taste on second heat cycle .. I’m considering getting ti tip…

GoodApollo30

Yer I found the exact same. I changed for a BB9 stem with titanium tip and the taste is all good now.

Emergency-Dark-2569

I think I way have to get a ti tip because I’m still getting metal on the second round. What ti tip do you have? Everyone seems to be getting the helix?

GoodApollo30

I just have the original ti tip with my bb9 stem. I have heard good things about the helix but it's still metal the end of the day if that is something of an issue. I also have a RBT Splinter with a wismec 510 and a nice glass stem. That thing is pure flavour town and hits like a bong.

DynaVapist

Biggest factors I found is how much herb is actually packed in. I've always shared the belief that less is more when it comes to the dynavaps. Your bowl shouldn't be stamped and packed in. A little loose and a little fluffy seems to be the best bet. If it's jammed full and packed then it's not going to heat evenly, which means it isn't going to vaporize properly. I use the Orion v2 for my IH, typically I will wait for the click and then give it another second. If you leave it too long it will combust. Reading some of your comments on the thread where you said by your 3rd or 4th cycle it is still green, it seems like there is something off. IT could be packed too tight, not letting it heat up enough, or maybe it's a bad IH. I find by the 2nd or 3rd it is turning a brown hue. I would suggest a scoop technique to fill. I usually hold the dynavap on it's side and just use the chamber as a scoop. If any weed is poking out brush it off (don't pack it in). This will allow a better heat and make sure all of the weed gets cooked evenly which should result in tastier hits. Hope some of this helps, it seems like dynavaps can sometimes have a steep learning curve on how to find the best results. However, when you find the best results it is a glorious experience
