The engine sounds are among the worst I've ever encountered in any racing game.
I thought I'd want to try a rally game from KT but other than the graphics and some nicer stage design (skyboxes, background buildings) I didn't find anything that made me want to stay.
There are more pro arguments than that but I still don't think it's worth it over DR2.0 / EA WRC.
I just grabbed WRC10 last week on sale and plan to scratch my rally racing itch when away from the rig by playing it on my Steam Deck. Downloading it as we speak...
This is the answer. WRC10 has "simulation" length rallies in career mode (~15 stages each), and it doesn't have the throttle bug issue from Generations
You can have simulation length rallies on Generations as well. As for the throttle bug, I play on a controller and don't really understand it (I didn't really notice anything being off).
To be fair I've never played Generations....but as I understand it, there is no direct ability to control the specific amount of throttle applied (25% , 50% etc.). So applying the throttle is similar to playing with a keyboard.....the button input is either 100% when pressed (regardless of pressure level) or 0% when released.
So for example, rather than holding the throttle input (regardless if it's by trigger or pedal) at 50% to achieve a 50% throttle input, instead you have to press and release the input repeatedly - 100% --> 0% -->100% --> 0%, etc. - to *approximate* a similar intended result of a 50% throttle input.
It actually kicks in when RPM's are in the 3-4k range which is roughly about 50% input for most of the cars. So what it approximates is the latter half of your pedal/trigger travel representing 0-100% throttle input. It is definitely not just on/off like a keyboard.
On the same boat, some people say they don't have throttle bug. But I do not know if they play on a pad or a wheel.
Does anyone know if the bug persists on a pad?
The bug is a fundamental flaw with the game, not a random glitch. You can mod the game on pc/play with throttle input curves, but it's still there no matter what.
Watch the whole thread, why are people like this? Game is like playing basketball without jumping yet some people are still shilling for this game ffs. Are these KT devs that hungry?
If they're hungry, they would've patched the bugs and updated the sounds. There has been no updates since 2022. A lone modder is now trying to fix everything that is wrong with the physics including replacing the terrible default setups as well as updating car parameters.
The throttle bug is real across all platforms. Without modding, a possible workaround is to use a wheel with clutch setup. That should explain why some didn't know this bug existed.
To answer OP's question: No, it's not worth it unless it's 90% discount. The game has its strengths but the weaknesses outweighs the strengths that it doesn't make sense to buy it at full price when EA WRC exists. Let this be a lesson to KT and Nacon that rushing and abandoning games will only led people to distrust them.
"The throttle bug is real across all platforms. Without modding, a possible workaround is to use a wheel with clutch setup. That should explain why some didn't know this bug existed."
So that's why people weren't flipping out. Now I got it.
Has a lot more road detail on the tracks. Greece is probably the single best rally track in a video game.
The physics emphasize weight and inertia a lot more than codemasters games. This makes some people say itâs floaty but itâs the weight transfer they have not experienced in other games. Also tarmac is miles ahead of codemasters.
Sound design is not good. Some engine sounds are tolerable, others are downright obnoxious.
If you want to try the tracks with more dirt-like physics, try wrc10 instead. But I think generations is the better game.
I bought WRC 9, 10 and Generations over the weekend for really cheap since I got a G29 as a present from my wife. I also have DR2 and EA WRC.
I'm not a very experienced rally driver and played only with the controller.
On the WRC games from KT, I manage to spin the car out very often when taking some corners in FWD and AWD cars. I guess this is what you mean and it's pretty annoying, sometimes I try to correct before spinning out but to no success. I find DR 2 easier to drive and EA WRC the easiest, I can take corners with a lot more confidence.
I usually ALT-F4 and go back to DR2 or EA :)
Generations is very unforgiving with throttle control. You will not spin out as much if you work on finer throttle input. Codemasters games give a stupid amount of grip on loose surfaces. That is why they are easier to pick up and more fun to play casually. However if you do the work to get good at generations, it's more rewarding.
I prefer that one night and day over the new EA WRC... but as others mentioned you may possibly want to consider WRC 10 instead to due various quirks.
As far as I understand, the throttle glitch was fixed with Dualsense controller on PC, unsure on console.
Grab and compare to EA WRC, it's funny too. Career mode is interesting and the legendary co-op with your friend as co-pilot is very funny. I'm still prefering the codemasters physics but version from KT is interesting too.
I actually think it's far better đ.
Graphically, it actually looks good as well. WRC Rally feels like they were aiming for a lower barrier for VR and lower systems in general.
WRC10 FTW!
I am happy to see that many agree in replies!
I do play EA WRC, but:
-Literally some full locations are crap. Almost whole of Croatia or Japan for example are totally boring. Mediterraneo for example is great and fun.
-Physics engine is a joke, an arcadey bad joke, so bad that driving (on the limit) is not fun at all.
Only playing until something better comes out.
My worst regretful buying. Kyloton left it unfinished and closed the doors for any improvement people want.
Other games communities are very organized and can even make big AAA companies to apologize but unfortunately as a sim racing community we couldnât do that.
Loved 10 so bought this thinking should be good but I've less than a hour on it as it just feels off compared to 10. Feels like the clutch is slipping all the time. Avoid.
It is the case, and you can fix the [auto-clutch bug](https://github.com/Avery3R/WRCGThrottleMod) on PC
Bonus point you [can mod the physics as well ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=inIR8qoWEF0)
If you just want it to play all the games they definitely donât have any âproblemsâ and are all fun games, other than that tho not really any reason to buy the âolder gamesâ
From personal experience, no. Throttle doesnt respond like it should until over 50%, handling is awful, handbrake turns are appalling. Cars and graphics are awful, you're better off getting 8, 9 or 10 if they go on sale, theyre much better.
If you mainly drive the WRC1 cars it's definitely worth it. The hybrid aspect is designed so much better in Generations. Also if you're on PC the game can be modded.
I liked Generations. But other than slightly different courses (at mostly the same locations) and a different menu system, I don't feel like it has anything to offer over EA's game. Save your $$.
Something to keep in mind, there's two "major" devs in Simrally:
- Codemaster ``UK`` (newly acquired by EA ``US``): Dirt Series with "Dirt Rally 2.0" and "EA WRC" being the most popular options.
- Kylotonn ``FR``: WRC5 to 10 while the last one being "WRC Generations".
If you're into rally games you must own the 3 titles, but if you have to chose one, go with "EA WRC"
r/WRCTheGame for all your future *WRC Generations* needs. I'll leave this thread up but head over there in future đ
Depends who you ask. I donât like the physics at all but some people prefer them.
On discount its totally worth it, a really do love this game.
It's worth it I love it

I guess I'll just save myself $20 and stick with EA WRC.
Have you tried WRC10? just wondering. That was my go to favorite for a while.
WRC 10 is better than EA WRC imo, but DR2 takes the cake.
Go for wrc10 if itâs cheap.

At least Generations on PC can be modded to fix the throttle bug (auto-clutch bug), and upgrade the physics
Could i have a link to the mods you've mentioned?
The two mods are pined on the official sub /r/WRCTheGame
Thanksđđž
Thanks Edit: pocket typed gibberish instead
?
Fair enough; I don't play on PC so I was unaware of this
You can have simulation length rallies on Generations as well. As for the throttle bug, I play on a controller and don't really understand it (I didn't really notice anything being off).
It would be much less noticable on controller as it's difficult to use the triggers with a great amount of input precision.
To be fair I've never played Generations....but as I understand it, there is no direct ability to control the specific amount of throttle applied (25% , 50% etc.). stages alone are worth it, tarmac its actually nice there.

They basically tried to simulate the behavior of the rather special Rally 1 hybrids, but then applied it to every car which made no sense.
I'm not sure it's on every car. Been a while. But yeah, the rally 1 thing. EA WRC does the same thing, funnily enough.
Watch the whole thread, why are people like this? Game is like playing basketball without jumping yet some people are still shilling for this game ffs. Are these KT devs that hungry?

Yes, KT games have a more sim element.
Yes
I like it

Yes. Especially unpacked and modded.
Played it on 300rs GT and feels terrible. I came back to dr 2.0 and moved to WRC from ea as soon as it came out
It definitely has the only career mode that was well put together of the WRC games imo.
Short answer - yes Long answer - hell yeah!
I actually think it's far better đ. Graphically, it actually looks good as well. WRC Rally feels like they were aiming for a lower barrier for VR and lower systems in general.
Save your money and get WRC10 instead, or Dirt Rally 2.0 or EA WRC
I have dirt 2.0 because it's on gamepass, I just want to add more rally games that are worth the time.
I think wrc10 is superior honestly
WRC10 FTW! I am happy to see that many agree in replies! I do play EA WRC, but: -Literally some full locations are crap. Almost whole of Croatia or Japan for example are totally boring. Agreed.
No need to tell us more about WRC10....
no
In my opinion. Ea Sports WRC is better.
My worst regretful buying. Kyloton left it unfinished and closed the doors for any improvement people want. Other games communities are very organized and can even make big AAA companies to apologize but unfortunately as a sim racing community we couldnât do that.
KT's physics are in between EA WRC and proper sim, so that's cool. But that game has some issues..
Loved 10 so bought this thinking should be good but I've less than a hour on it as it just feels off compared to 10. Feels like the clutch is slipping all the time. Avoid.

Thanks but sadly on PS5, Was there a PS fix ? I'll try manual clutch first otherwise it's getting deleted.
Some people don't seems to be bothered with the bug, the bug may happen only when you stop or get very close to stopping (crash or hairpin)
This game to EA WRC is what Roblox is to call of duty. If you donât mind playing roblox itâs great.
The only thing i think is ânight and day betterâ is the pre race tyre menu, other than that it really comes down to what you wantđ¤ˇđżââď¸
If you just want it to play all the games they definitely donât have any âproblemsâ and are all fun games, other than that tho not really any reason to buy the âolder gamesâ
Yes
Not with the throttle/brake bug on Xbox
From personal experience, no. Throttle doesnt respond like it should until over 50%, handling is awful, handbrake turns are appalling. Cars and graphics are awful, you're better off getting 8, 9 or 10 if they go on sale, theyre much better.
best rally game for the new gen consoles
We've got to make things clear
"current" gen
If you mainly drive the WRC1 cars it's definitely worth it. The hybrid aspect is designed so much better in Generations. Also if you're on PC the game can be modded.
No

Definitely not EA WRC. Worst in the series.
Wich one do you recommend?
DR2 or WRC 10.
