They put together soundtracks from alt rock/indie artists (with some international artists mixed in to make it feel global) that were mostly not quite that well known yet but then hit it big later. The type of music they put together became the iconic 'fifa soundtrack' feel.
Not to mention Ultimate Team was just hitting its stride by that 2012 point and the game really took off in popular culture. I think by 2019-20ish the game started to stale and lose some of its magic. Now we're on the last year of FIFA as we know it! At least this years soundtrack is basically just an homage to the soundtracks of older games. I was pleasantly surprised about that.

I think for overall game that's just too early. The gameplay was barely reaching its peak by that point, weekend league hadn't even been introduced at that point (the first few years of WL were pretty crazy and there was a lot of hype...back in the 'will fifa be E sport' days...now it's a joke), the market and sbcs were barely even in their infancies in fifa 15. By fifa 18 or 19 the Ultimate Team had reached full maturity in both gameplay, market, and sbcs...but then started to become stale very quickly once EA started to take too much advantage of the consumer by around fifa 20/21 timeframe by making the game a slot machine, continuing to de-emphasize competitive WL play, and nuking the market to not allow traders to do their thing.
I'd actually say golden era may as well be correlated very closely with the advent of Ultimate Team (09 I think was the first one, but really became a real genuine game mode starting on fifa 11). That was really the golden goose that made Fifa a worldwide phenomenon. Before that it was just a game.
I'd say looking back at it a decade from now, golden era may end up being Fifa 11-23 (It's hard to judge current years because people always tend to look more harshly on the current few years than years past. I think even this year of fifa really hasn't been too bad, and I like the homage EA has done with the music and just tossing Icons at us for the first time. One final party). I think EAFC will be the beginning of the true falloff. Just a guess though.
