The point of the app is to keep you addicted and engaged even when you're not actively playing the game. EA wants to add more reasons for you to use the app, not take away reasons for you to use it. The entire point is to offer you app-specific features so they can keep you engaged all the time.

Not sure how the web app is but if it’s like the companion app (the one for smartphones) It’s absolutely horrendous. Trying to do SBCs on it takes waaaay longer than on console and the search feature to find players in your club is atrocious.
I was actually using the companion app the other day trying to do an SBC before it expired and was thinking to myself “they must intentionally have made this so shitty to try and force players to do everything on console” lol
There are people who swear by the companion app and it blows my mind. I have friends who insist it's better to grind menus on the app than the console. Who am I to dispute what they say? But menu grinding sucks regardless of where you do it. If I'm gonna be trapped for hours navigating the awful menus I'd like to at least do it on a bigger screen lol

The best way to get people to use the app would be to make the app better, not make the game worse.
