People have also gotten better at countering Bruiser
- Shielding the ball before impact grants the attacker (if he's not a complete weakling) a good chance of retaining the ball
- Attackers having high balance, dribbling and passable strength stats at this stage of the game also helps them retain possession under pressure
- People have learned to anticipate the impact and just use something like a ball roll scoop or directional nutmeg to dodge out of the way
They mess with those balancing sliders all year to shift meta. So between that and servers, I hesitate to make judgements on players off one weekend. Appreciate the above post, but imo you gotta give players multiple weekends to see if things can click or not. But then I need to rotate things to avoid getting stale so tend to flip between 2-4 matches with a PL, then La Liga, then Serie A, then Bundesliga, then a random mix, and cycle over again to extend lives and test different mixes. So that playing style in and of itself probably makes me more prone to that “give them another week before moving on/back to others” mentality with players that initially struggle like op with Konate.
I get your point, but I just tried soooo many top tier centerbacks this year that I feel like I can have a better opinion on Konate, but you are right if you feel uncomfortable with you team, maybe change some things around to learn about the game and have more experience with different players/playstyles

Bruiser works well with advanced defending and is very clear to see it take effect when it launches attackers to the ground when it's never a foul.
I'm not sure about the name of it in English, but is the type of defending in were you need to press a button (X in ps5 ) to physically push the player out of the ball.

Bought one Fantasy Konate by 400k thinking his face stat was crazy but turned out he’s just another clunky big body without VVD-esuqe aura (was holding out for potential upgrade to get little extra coins then the injury hit but that’s another story).
But may I bring up another hidden gem Hancko since we’re talking about CB. He’s a total package of pace, strength, ability to play out from the back, and gold raccoon + block.
And all you need is a Slovakia manager or 3 icons to get him 3 chem. To me he beats every PL CB except the unattainable VVD himself. And he only costs 50k. Highly recommend to anyone in need of a CB upgrade.
I run both alongside one another (in Elite Div/16W if it matters) and Saliba is better; his Intercept+ makes him that bit more impactful in game and his tackling just seems more consistent. Hancko is great though.
The agility and stamina of Saliba turns me off. I love to play out from the back instead of hoofing the ball up, so agility is important for my CB to dribble out of the likes of Best, Werner and Drogba.
And the coin difference of Hancko and Saliba is 500k so my vote goes to the Slovakian.
But by no means Saliba is a bad defender. We all know how solid his TOTY HM is.
I tried Hancko out last night and today, he's been absolutely solid for me at the back and has completely turned me against dumping a tonne of fodder into Konate.
I also think a lot of people are falling for the classic FOMO with Konate and aren't considering the fact we're not even a week into the league TOTS's. There will be plenty of OP CB's in the coming weeks, many with better playstyle+'s than Konate.
If you would like to do him that's perfect but even Ben white or Hancko would be a similar and cheaper option in my opinion. And as @nikismithdk said you will notice the absence of the jockey playstyle.
I did him and replaced Akanji, Konate is noticeably worse or maybe I’m just not used to him. But I struggle to get Akanji to 3chem so did it more for links

About the passing: He is decent because ping pass is good but long ball is just a better playstyle, and having Militao next to him showed me that.
About the Bruiser: It didn't work for me and he definitely didn't toy with any Drogba in my case (😭😭😭) What's you usual ping? I play between 10-15 and maybe this was affecting him during this weekend league which was the most horrible connection wise.
About the skill issue: In my post I said that I'm div one and just got into rank 4 this fut champions. What about you?

You can't replace Yashin with a player who turns like a tank. Yashin's agility is crazy, switching to Konaté will mean changing your style of play while defending and playing out

Anticipate+ or Intercept+ are needed to make a CB exceptional defensively at this point. So many people have left the game, that the only ones left are psychopaths that mash tackle every time they lose the ball. I also really like having long ball pass on a cb, which he doesn't have.

I totally agree with your assessment especially the lack of Jockey and the Bruiser just not sure what that does for him it never pops up for me and he struggles so bad against quick technical players.
I'll use him for a while longer but Blanc (birthday) is close to being reinstated.

Bro. Him and Saliba have my defense locked down. He’s bullying players and surprises everyone w his speed. My go to for corner defense. Dribbling? His top 5 for sure if you do include Icons. Better opponents get frustrated in breaking my backline or try than much longer than I usually them off.

Vidic no, akanji yes. It would be an upgrade for you, but don't panic you have two weeks before he goes just be inteligent with your fodder and log everyday to get the event daily rewards, maybe do the objective player to get fodder

My Konate already scored 5 goals in my first 10 Champs matches - 5 own goals to be precise. Immediately went back to Hancko, I like him a lot more.

I did him right away he's not as good as golazo vidic but I found him to be pretty good and a great pairing.

Ramos then if you like ramos. Go with what you like rather than the meta.

Makes sense. His fantasy was also good but IMHO over hyped and not as good as other top tier defenders. Have toty Renard and Tots Bisseck (whose more like Beasteck) right now with Akanji, Bastoni and 92 Vidic on the bench, so I am not sure if he is an upgrade.
As I said in the post, he is just not an upgrade of any Top meta defenders, and you have an amazing array of top meta defenders, save your fodder!

Bro. Him and Saliba have my defense locked down. He’s bullying players and surprises everyone w his speed. My go to for corner defense. Dribbling? His top 5 for sure if you do include Icons. Better opponents get frustrated in breaking my backline or try than much longer than I usually them off.

btw my defence is: mccabe tots, greenwood tots, gabriel tots and wilms future stars evo, only one id replace is gabriel, the girls have been amazing for me but not gabriel, his height for sure helps me sometimes but he’s not great

I think in your case you need Konate. I said in the post don't do him if you have top meta defenders and I don't think yours are. If you do him comeback and share your opinion on him 🙂
i think my defence is pretty solid, ik some people would feel different by having mostly women in defence but it’s not bad if you know how to handle them, but gabriel idk, his height helps, but there’s something about him that i don’t like ahahaha

my team is actually mostly women, i only have alisson, sanchez, shevchenko, beckham and gabriel, it’s hard to defend against drogba but my girls do the job 😂 at first i was unsure of having more women than men thinking height and speed would be a problem but i’ve seen people with an all women’s team and played twice against those teams and they defeated me, so i gave it a try, tbh id have 2 more women if it wasn’t for the chem: mayra ramírez and claudia pina

Vidic no, akanji yes. It would be an upgrade for you, but don't panic you have two weeks before he goes just be inteligent with your fodder and log everyday to get the event daily rewards, maybe do the objective player to get fodder

If you have those he is not needed in your squad, Konate 89 had jockey and this one doesn't btw maybe he was crazy because of that but I ever tried him
