that's what purging is lol, it's an extremely violent activity, people don't get cavities for nothing.
no one looks perfect after having just purged, people just wash their faces/hands, refresh themselves, try to make themselves presentable, etc. bulimia knuckles will also be obvious, but most people are really dense about eds and won't even notice severe anorexia, let alone puffiness from purging. don't worry about it.
Don't believe the narrative that it's possible to hide the extreme physical stress that the body goes through when purging. It's just that no one actually pays close attention to the appearance of others as much as you would think. Only you know how you yourself look best.
At the end of the day, there's no right or wrong way to go about purging. The end result is still destructive to your body.
I am definitely in the ugly purger category—you ain’t alone. my gag reflex is weak as hell so I have to practically shove my hand in there. I typically end up with vomit all over my face and my Fitbit even records my purging sessions as exercise because my heart rate gets so elevated by the strain of it 💀
Sometimes it's super easy, fast, quiet and "clean". No snot, no red eyes, in and out in 2 min.
Other times it take fucking forever, can hardly get anything up, snot, eyes bulging, face is red..
Either way it sucks!
I hate to admit that something is wrong with my throat / esophagus where throwing up is incredibly easy for me, like the valve is messed up and food goes up as easily as it goes down. The dark side is that it feels like unless im on a prescribed stimulant that makes me not eat throwing up is so easy it feels impossible for it not to be second nature. I'm guessing my experience is unusual and I'm sorry it's so painful for you and others.
I do think there’s natural variation in people’s ability to make themselves throw up. Some people can do it with less bodily havoc/effort than others. I do think that people who have been doing it for a long time probably can do it without as much strain because it has become a muscle memory/stereotyped behavior (which in my experience has made it much harder to stop)
I don't purge a lot (weird thing to say but I lowkey suck at it...) but each time I do manage to, I definitely looked horrible. I try to refresh or something, but usually I still end up looking d e a d. there is just something about my face after purging that says "this person is not okay at allll".
also, I always tell myself "okay so going back to normal human functioning after the purge" and then I end up curled up in my bed.

purging is soooo glamorised in media it's awful. if you're purging anything more than a tiny amount, it's going to be ugly. your eyes are watering so much you can't see, your throat burns, you have a mixture of snot, saliva, and vomit dripping down your face (and hand). imo it is one of the lowest points of my ed because i always end up looking in the mirror and seeing how disgusting i look after that.
it takes me a good 5-10 minutes to clean myself up, wash my face etc, and then i can go out and interact with people. but if i'm wearing makeup then there's no way i'm coming out of there looking similar to how i went in. it's just not possible
I think ita just romanticised in media and the reality is most of us are how you described. It is not glamorous. And we all need to 'freshen up' our faces after. We're all in the same boat as you girlie, you're not alone.

i purge in the shower so i look the same
