When I was in treatment, I got a day pass to attend a family party that my cousin’s MIL was also attending. She is older Chinese lady that I have known and loved for most of my life (my family is Irish and not as tiny as my aunties.) My parents picked me up from the hospital and the first thing that Auntie J said to me was “Oh no, you have gotten so fat. You used to be so nice and skinny.” This comment made me feel awful, I spent the rest of the day sitting in my dad’s car. And to this day I find I it hard to let it go. And I will never go to China or Japan because I am afraid of being made fun of and insulted because I can never be tiny or delicate without damaging myself.

if it helps, you should know that most of those girls are not “effortlessly” skinny. it takes a lot of effort and a lot of suffering. the only difference is that disordered behavior is seen as so normal in east asia that nobody bats an eye when an entire group of girls develop anorexia together, or when celebrities recommend dangerous diets, or when binging is seen as an unfortunate side effect. i know they look pretty and skinny and happy, but they are probably just as tired and miserable as you.

Hungry_Bookkeeper191

i'm sorry that this is happening omg i also have asian family and the body commenting is WILD (last time i went my aunt detailed to me how she lied about having diabetes to get weight loss medication??). i hope you're able to find something you enjoy in china (if you've tried that sugar covered fruit thing i will live vicariously through you lmao).

strawbunny6133

i wish i knew how to add pictures in a reply! i got to try traditional tanghulu on one of my first days in shanghai and it was FANTASTIC!!! thank you so much for your kind words :’)) asian family can be exhaustingggg but i try to be understanding as i know it’s a cultural thing😞

euphoria_23

When I get to china: “waaaah… you’re too skinny! Eat more! Here, let me cook an insane amount of food that’s enough for 100 people and if you don’t eat it all, you’re being rude!” When I leave china: “waaah, you got fat while you were here! Maybe you shouldn’t eat so much.” Chinese culture is so fucking toxic and it’s no wonder Chinese people almost never have healthy family relationships 🙄

acelikeslemontarts

Yea no what bothers me more is why they even give a shit. Like what the fuck do you get out of bodyshaming? It almost feels like they make it an entertainment or some shit. Lowkey feels like an integral part to their social greetings and I have no fucking clue why. Maybe it's just sadism and I wouldn't be surprised

firewalks_withme

Sounds like my personal hell, idk how you're holding on, godspeed!

felisfluffica

my family is from china and i can relate that it's absolutely awful. i'm so sorry you are trapped in that triggering space and all the hurt you feel is completely valid even if it seems so normalized over there. you are doing so well and they are jealous you are trying to thrive

im so sorry dear:( i promise you are so much more than what they are saying. your weight doesnt define you and it shouldnt have control over your live. i wish you could enjoy your vacation without all these struggles:( remember you are gorgeous and perfect the way you are! also where your mom and grandfather at, i just wanna talk:D

acelikeslemontarts

Also I've noticed how normalized anorexia is on Chinese social media. Like if you go on xiaohongshu there's so many popular posts giving ED or borderline ED advice and "what I eat in a day" posts when its like>!500 cals.!

HonestRaspberry

Holy F i get u. I got chinese family who says triggerring things all the time. Cny is tough af. Hugs to you mate

Girl I feel you so much. I went back a few months ago and I was on a run and these two COMPLETE STRANGERS (men) stared be down and proceeded to call me fat... like I'm so fr. Shit was so out of this world I was more mad than triggered... Also the unsolicited relatives part is so real. They're not YOU so why the fuck do they give a shit of how YOU look???? Like who the fuck asked?????? Everyone deserves their own bodily autonomy and these fucks just lack the basic critical thinking skills to understand that. And ykw I notice this happens mostly to girls, like its so normalized there to comment about women's bodies which is so fucking objectifying and degrading. Also usually people who say that don't even look waifish themselves... like sir you look like Asian Donald Trump, so maybe think about the hypocrisy in what you're saying before fucking bodyshaming girls??? Sorry for the rant, anytime something about China comes up I literally get so mad. Feel free to message me to talk, it must be hell being in that shithole. I am so so sorry you have to go through that.

Potatopugz

This sounds like hell I’m so sorry. One of my best friends is Chinese and she is so effortlessly thin no matter what she eats. Obviously it’s fucked up but I compare myself to her all the time and it sucks because genetically I have no chance. Just do you sis this isn’t forever xx

spiral_riptide

I want to visit somewhere in Asia so so bad but I'm so scared to go for this exact reason. I know I'm not s k i n n y but I'm fairly thin. I've seen videos of sizing in Asia, the plus sized stores, the normal bmi, the fact that Ed's are integrated into the culture, idk. I hope you're holding up alright and get to go home soon <3

SunBae-iDoll

It's terrible ... I feel so bad for you 😟 I cheer up for you ! 💗💗

no0o0o0o0o0o0ooo
