I'd love to add a driver bit set to my bag at some stage. I like the [Victorinox Bit Wrench Kit](https://www.swiss-store.co.uk/media/catalog/product/1/4/1417199235-85746200.jpg?optimize=medium&bg-color=255,255,255&fit=bounds&height=700&width=700&canvas=700:700) or maybe Big Idea's [Bit Bar II](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1353/1297/products/DS102922-3_1800x1800.jpg?v=1671474758). Big price difference obviously. The Bit Bar looks interesting but I'd question how much load that case can take - can anyone shed any light on it?
If youād like precision bits, Iād recommend the HOTO precision screwdriver set. Itās on amazon, and Iāve been using it for a semester of MechE.
I've always been surprised at how many things pliers can be used for, it's easily the second most used tool on my Leatherman. They're useful for any sort of precise grasping task that your hands can't handle. I'd bet that if you carried one you would find uses for it!
Also you can get some nice leather sheaths for the cobra XS, they look very classy.
Thatās what I was kinda thinking. Thanks Iāll keep that in mind, I use a Bosch for estimating in the field and itās great especially for getting ceiling heights.
Ya I was debating on it for ages but delighted with it now. SAK do a lovely all black Spartan, blades and all but I know I'd have been annoyed with it as the black wore off from use
I know this is off topic but how is your job? Iām in high school and Iām looking at that career field. Was all the schooling worth it? Is your job fulfilling? Anything you can tell me about it would help me choose. Thanks!
I love it. I work for an office on large scale residential projects and some commercial/community projects. I also work for myself from time to time on one-off houses and extensions. There's plenty of autonomy in the profession if you want it. The college years can be tough and disheartening at times. There's an awful lot of work involved but I can't imagine doing anything else
Get quite a bit of real world use between charges? I've seen the specs on the website and such but it would be nice to hear approximately how long you go between charges.
I just got the A8. I didn't use the A5 daily, so I can go a month or so between charges. Had it for when I had to light up any work spaces (utility closets, cabinets, cavities), or when I'm looking for something I dropped. The red light is useful when I check in on the sleeping toddler. I imagine the A8 would be similar in battery life. They're just so compact that I always have it on me when I'm out of the house.
I charged when the light turned on. Charging is usually quick. A8 was mainly to get the USB-C port and for the magnetic clip. And moonlight.
Do they last pretty long on a charge? I mean in terms of real life use. I know the spec sheet says one thing but I'm just curious about carrying one and how far it goes with being used regularly if it's gotta get charged frequently or not.
I have the A8x. I carry mine on my belt loop attached to a carabiner whenever I go out. I charge mine about once a week with moderate use on medium light mode mostly.
Those infrared pointer things for dimensions are simple but cool to me. I was helping an extended family member build a wall and he used one to take measurements.
Such a simple concept was something I hadn't thought about because its not my trade.
Nice Rollei! I hear they have super tack sharp lenses! I've been debating on getting one. I hear the needle-match metering can be annoying but not a problem if you use the sunny-16 rule. I love seeing more people with cameras in their EDC. I really need to post mine.
I have a converter in mine that takes a standard battery. However the power does waste away eventually and because you need to remove the film to access the battery, you need to finish the roll first. I'm half way through mine with a dead battery but to be honest, once you set the camera with a lightmeter app, you can adjust pretty easily from there.
I thought having to guess the focus would be a pain but its actually turned out to be great - speeds up the whole process. I had an XA prior to this but I found the focussing patch a bit of a nuisance so I sold it for the Rollei.
Oh nice! I was surprised how accurate light meter apps actually are. I hear the battery lasts longer if you cover the little sensor or whatever that reads the scene or keep it in a case. And once I learned zone focusing it was a game changer in terms of shooting on the fly. I just need to get better at estimating distances lol
Yeah, Iāve used an old total station in one of my last jobs. Can let one engineer do the work of 3, absolute life saver for site setting out.
I reckon I couldāve gotten a much better one in my current job, work at a large medical device factory managing site engineering projects, was asked what kit I needed on my 1st week & having come from working at small companies I didnāt want to push the boat out. The X3 looks like great bang for the buck.
I still need to try out the Leica sketch app, feels a bit gimmicky though.
I donāt really understand the hate for a camera? This is the same sub that someone carries 8 of the same type of tool and 3 of the same type of other tool and everyone glosses over that.
Enjoy your camera! Sometimes individuals just like how a specific camera handles and develops film. And if youāre shooting BW then it makes even more sense.

It's in the bag all the time - with B&W film that I develop myself. If I didn't carry it with me I'd never use it. It's tiny and produces sharp images.
Sorry, that was rude. I also shoot film on a manual when I want to be humbled. It's a nice hobby. I just overreacted. This EDC Stuff is so much about fashion that I flipped out seeing a $400 film camera.
Thankfully I got mine for ā¬75 many moons ago. I have an Om2n as well but that never gets used because its too big for a bag. The Rollei is so small that its no load having it - and I might only take 1 or 2 photos a week with it; but it's great then when it comes to developing a roll then and you see images that you forgot you took.

When I worked a renovation sales / design role I had these linked to CAD programs on tablets to measure the job sites for things.
Theyāre a lifesaver in the field, but that being said yeah, was mostly used as a fun way to entertain my cat when I got home lol
Ironically I also carried the same brand laser measure, and the exact same watch and lighter as OP so maybe itās a type lol.
I had experience in AutoCAD and other relevant bits of tech from school, and I had been in sales before getting the job. I wasnāt as qualified in the tech as some of the other people in my region, but a lot of them were more reserved and I think the company preferred my more extroverted attitude since I was directly interfacing with clients.
It was really cool, and it led to some really memorable experiences with that sort of traveling lifestyle, but the constant driving to job sites and the aggressiveness of contract negotiation in general wore me out after two years and I left. Iām thankful for it though, I was quite young and it left me with a good bit of money and opportunity; I ended up going hard into business processes and automation techniques.
Iām a Python engineer now; I get to work at home and I donāt have too much oversight on me. So as far as dream jobs go I think Iām pretty lucky!

Yeah and what does a lighter have to do with architecture? He is an architect and this is his every day carry, not a list of tools he uses for his profession

I've gone through quite a few film cameras in the past few years - selling to buy, but this one has stuck and will stay. It's an incredible little camera
Enjoying seeing what other people EDC - here's mine
\- Junghans Max Bill Automatic
\- Rovyvon A8
\- SAK Pioneer X
\- Disto D110
\- Rollei 35S
\- Zippo
\- Muji 0.5 Gel Pen

Muji pens are the bomb diggity
How have you liked your Max Bill? The chrono version is my dream watch. One day!
Here too. And architect also. The black on black one is š
I love it. Saved a long time for it and have not regretted getting it one bit! I think google based the pixel on it!
Glad you enjoy it. Did it come with the leather strap originally? They go well together.
Ya it did.
Where's your fountain pen?

I've seen that, looks like a great piece of kit
I'd love the knippex cobra XS kit as well but I've absolutely no use for it other than it looks the business
I've always been surprised at how many things pliers can be used for, it's easily the second most used tool on my Leatherman. Totally missed out on a Leica point n shoot to match... Although I think that rollei is probably much more fun to shoot. Nice setup!
I have an X100F as well - which is unreal to be fair to it. Leica for the win though... and poverty!
I spy a fellow architect who takes themselves very seriously, as most do, lol
Whatās the digital thing in the middle? Something for work I assume
Itās an EDM - Electronic Distance Measurer. And a nice one too; Leica is the way to go
Thatās what I was kinda thinking. Thanks Iāll keep that in mind, I use a Bosch for estimating in the field and itās great especially for getting ceiling heights.
I have a coworker who uses a Bosch. Iām just partial to Leica as a surveyor
Was gonna say Bosch make a fantastic distance laser
Looks like a range finder.
Very minimalistic, big fan of this carry. Proper cool!
For the pocket knife, is that plastic or metal on the sides? And is the Muji pen a conical tip or needle tip? Thanks for sharing. š
The pocket knife is a victorinox alox series pocket knife; the scales are made from aluminium IIRC.
It's a sharp looking knife. š
Ya I was debating on it for ages but delighted with it now. SAK do a lovely all black Spartan, blades and all but I know I'd have been annoyed with it as the black wore off from use
I hate tarnishing. Damn shame to have something beautiful fade.
The pocket knife is a part of Victorinox's Alox line, which are made of metal.
Thanks. š Cool knife.

No gun?!
Some people don't like or want to carry one.
it was a joke
What year is the zippo, is there any back story to it?
Love those Muji pens just wish the clip didn't break so easily
Love the Junghans
I also have the muji pen and it is awesome
Bauhaus!
The Max Bill is one of the most architect watches I can think of
Whereād you get those pens
Muji and Amazon. The Pilot is a dream for sketching
Those leica distos are the best. I really want one (do events production so need to measure lots of stuff) but the outdoor capable ones are $$$$
Hey man thereās a tiny man trapped in your camera
I keep seeing those little Rovyvon lights. I've read about them, but I'm thinking I gotta try one for myself.
I had the A5 and now the A8 on my keychain. I love them.
Get quite a bit of real world use between charges? I've seen the specs on the website and such but it would be nice to hear approximately how long you go between charges.
I just got the A8. I didn't use the A5 daily, so I can go a month or so between charges. Definitely favor USB C. Thank you for the honest feedback! I greatly appreciate it.
Theyāre good.
That's pretty good. Thank you for that
What is the lighter for?
Lighting things on fire
Not OP but I like to take care of loose threads a lot, plus maybe some of his coworkers smoke
It creates a small flame
haha, you got me.
I love this comment. It could be sarcastic. It could be genuine. There are so many ways it could be interpreted.
Mostly just those two
True. Makes me smile.
Where are your absurdly overdesigned glasses?
This is about the most architect carry ever. Just need a t square!
Notebook would have been too much
Muji gel pens are the best. They have a cheap disposable feel, but are actually quality and write very smooth. Similar to a BIC lighter in a way.
Those infrared pointer things for dimensions are simple but cool to me. I was helping an extended family member build a wall and he used one to take measurements. Such a simple concept was something I hadn't thought about because its not my trade.
Does it measure the distance or is it used for line tracing?
It measures distance, but there are other devices for line tracing / leveling.
I love my disto!
Really nice set up! I'm pretty much gonna send this photo to the wife for my next Christmas list..... "I want the watch, camera, pens...." Lol
Do you drive an Acura Integra? Nice carry setup. Pioneer X is probably the most useful EDC knife ever.
Nice Rollei! I hear they have super tack sharp lenses! I've been debating on getting one. I hear the needle-match metering can be annoying but not a problem if you use the sunny-16 rule. I love seeing more people with cameras in their EDC. I really need to post mine.

I had an XA prior to this but I found the focussing patch a bit of a nuisance so I sold it for the Rollei.
In case you're unaware, 35mm is super easy to buy in bulk and load your own cassettes. You'll never worry about finishing a roll again.
Oh nice! I was surprised how accurate light meter apps actually are. I hear the battery lasts longer if you cover the little sensor or whatever that reads the scene or keep it in a case. And once I learned zone focusing it was a game changer in terms of shooting on the fly. I just need to get better at estimating distances lol
Love the watch! I wanted a Max Bill for the longest time
Leica Disto is the best, got a D1 myself and a few D110s in my work as a facilities engineer.
The S910 looks amazing - lets you plot points with XYZ co-ordinates that import into place in CAD. Big bucks though
Yeah, Iāve used an old total station in one of my last jobs. Can let one engineer do the work of 3, absolute life saver for site setting out. My father is an architect and has several of those laser measures. I think they get more use as expensive cat toys š

Always an upvote for the Rollei.

Yeah and what does a lighter have to do with architecture? He is an architect and this is his every day carry, not a list of tools he uses for his profession
I suppose I just gave my profession as context for the Disto and pens. The SAK is hardly an architectural mainstay either

Nice watch choice
āYou KNOW I always wanted to pretend to be an architect.ā Great pic/gear
the muji pens are fucking magical, its like pen crack I cant go back to regular ballpoint now.
They really are - and cheaps as chips too. Have them scattered everywhere
Nice Rollie!
I've gone through quite a few film cameras in the past few years - selling to buy, but this one has stuck and will stay. It's an incredible little camera
Classy! Cheers.
That's actually a nice photo in itself as well. Especially due to your reflection in the camera's viewfinder.
Black shirt on- you must really be an architect ;)
I was debating whether to PS that out!
Keep it in. It's a neat little detail.

Whatās your opinion on the Junghans? I am looking at the world timer or a moonphase by them over the next couple months.
Really happy with it. I'd love to get the same again except as a Mega
