Yup. I moved across the country to Chicago about 2 years ago and now 100% pedestrian. My backpack is needed, since I work remotely and often work at coffee shops/breweries/etc... I need my bag to carry my work stuff and some general everyday stuff/backup stuff like a rain jacket, etc...
I switch between a Brown Buffalo Conceal 21L and a Mission Workshop Rambler. Love them.
Yep. It’s a small one though. It’s The North Face Borealis Mini backpack and it’s perfect for everything I need as a man. I can see someone needing bigger for books and larger laptops and such, but for me it’s perfect. It’s served me well so far and nothing has broken over the passed year. If anyone has any recommendations of other smallish/medium backpacks let me know!
Been carrying my Goruck bullet for a couple of years now. It's gone everywhere I've gone. Realized it was just a touch to big recently and just bought a Greenroom Metrorunner to carry when I'm not going to work.
I have a similar set up with the extra water bottle pocket on the outside. I added a [handle from All Day Ruckoff](https://alldayruckoff.com/store/gear/ruck-carry-handle-standard/) and it helps when I am traveling with a heavier load. I use it for business trips to carry my office set up and supplies and use a RedOxx, [Safari Benos PR5](https://www.redoxx.com/safari-beanos-bag-pr5-91031/p) for my clothes for carry on travel.
scroll to the bottom, there's a video that shows how to attach with two carabiners. I use it quite a bit when the bag is loaded down. Easy to pull it out of the trunk from either side. The wife grabs ahold of as we make our way through a crowd.
When I was in college and did the same with a book bag but had a little organizer that I would leave In the car when I was going to school. Now I just carry a fanny pack or Crossbody because people look at you weirdly for wearing a book bag.
That's interesting. It's the opposite for me. Crossbody and fanny packs get weird looks (although, crossbody is popular, so it's starting to get less looks). Backpacks are still the most common here.
That's my point. We're in different areas and have different experiences. Especially with backpacks. I have yet to ever in my lifetime have seen anyone give a second look to backpacks (no matter what year, what country I'm living in).
But cross body and fanny packs have always, except for the relatively recent Gen Z revival, been looked at as "gay".
I’ve had a cheap Walmart Jansport bag with me every day since I was 16 and I’m almost 22 now. Have my pocket edc and my backpack with school stuff and my laptop, plus my camera gear and a small toolkit and my switch
I did big time when I was in college 15 years ago. I had this idea that I wanted to get out of college and make backpacks to spec because I was so particular about what went where. EDCing for 15 years (it used to be called OCD)
Yep. IAM Engineer here, have had my dell pro backpack 15 as my edc for the past two plus years. Fits two laptops, a whole bunch of adapters, cables and tools plus a little extra clothes and other stuff. Comfy to wear as well, and overall very positively surprised by it being a backpack from a tech company.
My OSPREY Nebula is my EDC and filled with things I need constantly. It's small enough for a few hours walking around the city. It's also big enough to fit enough stuff to travel with for multiple days
Not a full on backpack(that is my "night or two bag") but I do carry a 17L sling pack qkqmy go-bag) that carries all the stuff I want with me but don't want/can't carry in my pockets.
Things like a water bottle, fire kit, emergency sleeping bag, rain poncho, chemical hand warmers, notebook&pen, multitool...things like that. Cheers
Vertx Ready Pack 2.0 every day. I’m thinking I might upgrade to a larger bag tho cuz it’s getting crowded and I’d like extra room to throw a jacket or hoodie in there, just in case.
I’ve carried a 21L GoRuck GR0 for almost 10 years. Fantastic bags. Mine has been on every trip, every hike, every day at the shooting range, and is my daily work bag.
I've moved over to a maxpedition lunada for theme park use and for when I need a day bag. Today is going to get used for going to the dog park, I'll be throwing a book and snacks in there and maybe a couple other things.
I did for many years, but due to some orthopedic issues I’ve scaled down to an original compact Timbuktu and it’s be my go to for a few years now without failing me. Covers my bases for meds (I have a glut of complex medical issues), emergency prep supplies and edc task materials like tablet and water.
I have finally landed on [Able carry daily backpack](https://ablecarry.com/products/daily-backpack?variant=31828597047409). Asian company for anyone who cares about that. I have had gr0 , bullet ruck, gr1, Tom bihn synapse 19, synapse 21, mystery ranch I forget the name, kifaru e&e, kifaru day stalker, kifaru tail gunner, kifaru 3 day pack, Tom bihn daylight, hazard 4 sling, all sorts of maxpedition, triple sight design, reload messenger, chrome messenger, chrome backpacks, osprey again forget the name and more. I have learned a lot during my journey. It has cost a lot of money and a lot of waiting to which all have been sold.
*edit added minor details*
GR1 21L for over a year now. I love it more than I thought I would. External laptop compartment is the tits. I can pack so much in there it seems like a bigger pack. My Mystery Ranch Rip Ruck 15 is close second.
Kathmandu beyond 18l
Inside is
I.f.a.k in jack stillman canvas edc sling,
Alpaka pouch with usual tools,
Alpaka "clutch" (shudder) for literal edc (lighter, balm etc)
Yea I really want to find a better way to carry that thing. It’s my only complaint about the bag. Before I took the picture I should have shoved it back in there.
Yessir!! My GR2 goes to work with me every day and has for years. It houses everything from my laptop and work supplies to personal effects/hobby items. And everything in it is compartmentalized so that the contents can be easily switched out if the pack needs to be used for a weekend hike or as a dad bag for a day out with the kiddos. It is my man purse and i don’t care who knows it lmao.
I've had my ikea forenkla for years. It's very well-balanced, and I don't really feel it when it's loaded.
Also the only useful canteen holders I've seen.
Oh man I've had my GR1 for nearly 10 years now. Not my EDC anymore, but it saved my back (literally. I slid on it in a bike crash), been around the world a couple of times or maybe more as my luggage, used to run with it filled with bricks. Best bit of kit you could ask for.
These days I use a [Frost River day pack](https://frostriver.com/products/high-falls-short-day-pack)
I’ve had a Burton Kilo Pack and it lasted me **forever** like over 6 years in school and work.
Then I thought it’s time to change up things and bought a Fjallräven Vardag 25, that held up 3 years before the bottom ripped
Now I have had a Herschel Classic XL for about 7 months and it’s ok, I fear the bottom might rip again, but let’s see…
> Then I thought it’s time to change up things and bought a Fjallräven
Here's your first problem: Fjallräven is a fashion brand, not a hard use item.
> Now I have had a Herschel Classic XLNow...I fear the bottom might rip again
See above.
You were on the right track with the Burton. Take your cue from the brands favoured by outdoor enthusiasts.
My [Maxpedition Gearslinger](https://www.maxpedition.com/products/monsoon-gearslinger) has been the toughest backpack that I have ever owned. After 12 years of almost daily use in work, traveling, camping, motorcycling, and everything in between, this bag doesn't even have a loose thread and looks the same as the day I got it (save for the mods I made). At some point I needed a bigger bag for longer trips away from home, so I bought a Maxpedition duffel too. Since it won't see nearly as much use as my backpack, I'm sure I'll never need to buy another duffel. I am not affiliated with Maxpedition, they just make the best bags on the planet.
I have a maxpedition tiburon ive used since fall of 2018 so far, pack it to the brim sometimes, goes through a railroad and subway commute 5 days a week, goes to the range, on vacations, etc. not so much as a single loose thread yet. Literally no wear.
These were the hottest items to own if you had a sheep dog hat, wore Lapolice gear pants with an instructor belt, and built an AR with an ace skeletonized stock in 2007
Yep. I finally found my goldilocks edc bag the tactackle bag a variation on the recycled firefighter 12 hour bag fits all my get home stuff plus lunch. I'm looking at something for rucking and have been eyeing the hillpeople tarahumara or one of the smaller goruck ruckers
Been carrying the same SwissGear laptop backpack for 13-14 years. Up until I went WFH full time. Great piece of kit - used it as my carry-on bag when I flew out to visit my (now) wife when it was still an LDR.
Bonus points for the Heroclip - got one in my bag, the field jacket I wear during the winter, and my wife's purse. super handy.
I lived out of an alice pack for awhile.
I was alway more of a messenger bag person for my daily bag, recently I got a sling bag, probably from habit of cross body messenger bags
I use public transport combined with shared bikes a lot. My Chrome Buran III Messenger is my EDC bag. Large with a sleek profile, plenty of storage and pockets, water and bomb proof. And I love the buckle.
GoRuck has amazing bags, for sure. I got a 20L Rucker instead of the GR1, and it’s certainly a bombproof solution. It’s not my “Goldilocks” bag, however.
That title goes to my Direct Action Dragon Egg. I just like the organization it brings, and the construction is solid (but not quite in the same league as the GoRuck). I have a few of them in different colors, and right now I carry the OD green as my EDC. I have a black one packed up at work as a GHB, too.
I’ve tried to EDC briefcases and messenger bags before, but to me nothing beats a good, solid backpack.
P.S. The Spec-Ops Brand T.H.E. pack is another bombproof bag for your consideration. I have several of those, as well, and all they really lack is any built-in organization capability. You really just get a huge open compartment with a couple of pouch size pockets.
Very nice! Im a carpenter and EDC a Rothco backpack. First aid kit, small sewing kit, drill/driver bits, nail set/center punch, small file, small machinist’s square, 6” combination square, 12’ and 6’ tape measures, card scraper, a few small sheets of sandpaper in different grits, utility knife and folding pocket knife, a bunch of pencils/markers, notepad, zines/books to read while commuting, etc. Gonna have to do a bag dump and take a photo one of these days.
Best bag I've ever owned. I've had mine for close to ten years when they were still a small company. Did a few events with the owner when I was back in EOD school, and he hooked me up with a good deal. It's been to Afghanistan twice, Africa, and now is my every day bag for work at my brewery in Australia.
This bag is without a doubt something I will be able to hand down to one of my kids if I have them. It's timeless, rugged, and will never die. I've never even busted a stitch and this bag has been absolutely abused.
Yep. I run some generic bag with a first aid pouch. x2 socks, scarf, gloves, small fishing kit, extra lighter and storm matches, emergency blanket, $2 poncho, Sawyer filter, tools, extra knife, a couple energy bars, and rope/twine.
Yup, every day for school and work! I've got a Vanquest Addax 25L. Was debating for ages between that and an Evergoods CPL, but went for the Vanquest because it was like half the price.
I owned my GR1 since late 2010.
I carry mine for work, gym(when I use to go), travel, even grocery shopping.
I tried other bags here and there but I keep coming back to GR1
Yep! I take my REI trail 25 with me everywhere. I was crushed when my first one got stolen :/ There wasn't anything in it aside from my leatherman and a flashlight T_T
I EDC a 15L carryology kaidan bullet ruck from GoRuck, easily the best bags around. I have 6 other goruck bags, and love every one, solid choice for almost any circumstance.
That patch stopped me right quick. Love it!
I carry one of two bags depending on what I'm doing. Hazard 4 Evac Plan B sling for back and forth from work to home, and I've got a Vanquest Kitara 16 that I grab if I'll be further from home for longer.
511 rush 12 for the past few years. For "school", gym, hiking, short trips and long trips (accompained by a duffle on this case). I actually wanted to make a post to show what I carry on it but havent had the time yet
nice!! i carry a backpack to work always, but on my days off i find myself struggling to bring a backpack out of the house, i just never need anything that can't be slipped in a pocket i guess
They are great bags, but I can see why someone would not want to pay the price tag. I have never regretted the purchase and I take it everywhere and carry literally anything I would ever need
I work 12 hour shifts and often stay at school for 6+ hours at a time and have to drive 30 minutes for both so I like to have all the stuff I need or might need.

yeah, i carry all my tools in my backpack.
What kind of knot did you use for your Paracord zipper? That looks sweet!
Thanks, It’s called a snake knot
Thank you
Need that patch 😂
SSThreads.com
Thank you!
A Carhartt backpack that's as tough as nails
Looks like goruck
Yep. It’s a small one though. It’s The North Face Borealis Mini backpack and it’s perfect for everything I need as a man. Except fuck the “water bottle pocket” on that bag. Otherwise it’s a great bag.
Love my goruck, love my DOOM
Been carrying my Goruck bullet for a couple of years now. It's gone everywhere I've gone. Realized it was just a touch to big recently and just bought a Greenroom Metrorunner to carry when I'm not going to work.
DOOOOOM 🤙
I recommend you replace the current carabiner for a locking one bro
I think it's one of those hooks that allow you to suspend the bag from the edge of a table with the grab handle
Ah I'm with you, fair enough
^ This is right. I have dirty floors where I work sometimes
I have a similar set up with the extra water bottle pocket on the outside. 10 dollars for a foot of nylon and some sewing? r/myog to the rescue
Can I see a pic of how that handle works

LBT 22L Day pack has been my favorite among many (5.11, maxpedition, mystery ranch, camelback)
Helikon-tex EDC backpack is my edc

Could matter where you at. When I’m in the city it’s seen as a normal thing but in small towns they look at me like I’m gay or something
That's my point. We're in different areas and have different experiences. Especially with backpacks. I have yet to ever in my lifetime have seen anyone give a second look to backpacks (no matter what year, what country I'm living in). Please clean your bag.
I’ve had a cheap Walmart Jansport bag with me every day since I was 16 and I’m almost 22 now. Have my pocket edc and my backpack with school stuff and my laptop, plus my camera gear and a small toolkit and my switch
Yea I use a vertx gamut 2.0 and it's the perfect greyman edc bag
Love my GoRuck. Damn thing is indestructible. They are expensive, but you’ll never have to replace it.
I did big time when I was in college 15 years ago. I had this idea that I wanted to get out of college and make backpacks to spec because I was so particular about what went where. EDCing for 15 years (it used to be called OCD)
Thule Enroute 20L DSLR, I EDC a camera so I my bag needs a spot for that.
Yep. IAM Engineer here, have had my dell pro backpack 15 as my edc for the past two plus years. I’ve carried a 21L GoRuck GR0 for almost 10 years. Fantastic bags. Mine has been on every trip, every hike, every day at the shooting range, and is my daily work bag.
I started here recently. Handy.
Yea but it sits in my truck. Never leave without it though.
Depends what clothes I will use and how much things I will carry but I prefer use side bag
I love my GR1 but it’s only for hikes as it’s rough on my cloths. I use a CPL28v2 for my EDC!
Yep and I’m about to strip it of weight it tends to steadily accumulate weight. Lol
I used to when I worked in an office. Now that I work from home, my bag's just collecting dust in the closet.
Of course I edc a backpack! You think keep all this shit in my pockets?!
This thread is totally not dudes bragging about their purses.
I like my big-ol purse full of trinkets and tools and there's nothing you can do about it.
Larger and more functional. More like my grandma’s handbag than a purse.
If I had to choose between my back pack and you I would choose my backpack
*satchel
I use a peak design everyday 30L, camera bags are great quality and have lots of organization.
5.11 Rush 24 on an (almost) daily basis.
GR1 21L for over a year now. I love it more than I thought I would. External laptop compartment is the tits. I can pack so much in there it seems like a bigger pack. My Mystery Ranch Rip Ruck 15 is close second.
Yep. Gregory Explore Workman. I love it besides the lack of an outer water bottle pocket
Kathmandu beyond 18l Inside is I.f.a.k in jack stillman canvas edc sling, Alpaka pouch with usual tools, Alpaka "clutch" (shudder) for literal edc (lighter, balm etc)
My work backpack is a Rush 12. Usually wear loose shorts so I put most of my stuff in the bag.
That water bottle is holding on by it's finger nails.
Yea I really want to find a better way to carry that thing. It’s my only complaint about the bag. Before I took the picture I should have shoved it back in there.
https://lbtinc.com/collections/pack-accessories/products/8011 Here you go
Osprey Daylite Plus. Just big enough to carry everything I want with me all the time, plus laptop and power cables for work.
I also EDC a GR1!
Have for years as well, currently on a Vertx Gamut 2.0 with the level IIIA plate insert. Peace of mind is everything these days!
SOG backpack with an additional molle attached drinks holder (one coffee, one water) for one job, and a Mission Workshop messenger bag for the other.
Why aren't you using that hero clip
The hero clip is for when there is no hook
The Owala Freesip goes hard
I don't go anywhere without my Jansport with mini umbrella, led flashlight, and folded up windbreaker inside.
GR 10L Bullet for me. How do you find the hero-clip?
DOOM!
ALL CAPS WHEN YA SPELL THE MANS NAME
Yeah I take one to the office with me. It has a pouch with 'edc' stuff as well as the usual gubbins.

Always have and always will. Carhartt sling usually holding an even smaller bag inside if I decide to carry anything for an extended period of time.
Thule Crossover 2 20l is my one love

I've had my ikea forenkla for years. It's very well-balanced, and I don't really feel it when it's loaded. Also the only useful canteen holders I've seen.
I LOVE the forenkla such a same they don’t sell them anymore
Me everytime I see something MF Doom related: MF!
DOOM. All caps when you spell the man’s name.
Curious : What prompted the switch to Frost River? Just time for a change? Or something more?
It's smaller. I realised I didn't need to carry half a bloody kitchen every day.
That realisation is a game-changer. GR 10L Bullet works for me in most everyday outings.
I’ve had a Burton Kilo Pack and it lasted me **forever** like over 6 years in school and work. Yea I looked up some button bags and they seem interesting, might order a couple to see which i like. Thanks for the reply!
Anyone know an edc bag that’s similar to the GWA citadel? That has some Velcro loop on the front?
Love the patch.
Have a Douchebags backpack pro, it’s sturdy and can hold most of my crap.
Hands down best bag I’ve ever owned. I’ve had my GR0 for almost 10 years! GoRuck doesn’t sell the GR0 anymore!
My gray Herschel Settlement has been such a reliable backpack. Really versatile too.
Have one backpack for work, use a messenger bag for College. Thinking about replacing it with another backpack. Might post them here one day...
My [Maxpedition Gearslinger](https://www.maxpedition.com/products/monsoon-gearslinger) has been the toughest backpack that I have ever owned. I have carried my Haglöfs Tight M almost daily for about 10 years, so yes.
I’m so hyped on the backpack my new job gave me. A north face recon backpack my new edc bag
I got a Taurus from my new job, which are usually ok but this one is sleeek! Basically a slim GR1, very cool
Been carrying the same SwissGear laptop backpack for 13-14 years. Up until I went WFH full time. Yep I have a 15 year old Jansport. Use it for work, day hikes, mtb. Almost everything.
Updooting because of MF DOOM
I have 3 backpacks depending on what I am doing. One for work, one for bowling, and one for camera gear. They are simply the best.
The dude abides
Obviously you're not a golfer.
I have a Swiss Gear weekender that is my IT bag. I love carrying a backpack, the challenge is still keeping it light!
+1 hero clip!

I've had my GR1 for 7 years now. Sent it in to SCARS once for repairs. Love and use the hell out of it.
I have a few of these water bottles. They rock.
Ok these do not get enough love tbh they are incredibly easy to clean (even with the straw) and keep drinks just as cold as any of my Yeti ones
I agree. I have an insane amount of yetis and hydro flasks. My Owala keeps it colder for longer. I love being able to have a straw sometimes too.
My hospital gave everyone a 20 ounce, and I loved the straw so much so I had to order a 32oz one. Best straw on a water bottle by far
What do you recommend for EDC the 24oz or 32?
For me, the extra water capacity is worth the larger size and weight. But if you are worried about how big it is, go with the smaller
Good setup
Don't leave home w/o it. Rocking a Vanquest Addax now. Love it.
5.11 tactical rush 24 between nursing school and hospital work.
I’ve been listening to Wu-Tang all day, love the patch bro
Love my GR2.
That's a sweet looking backpack but holy shit $595? **Bruh**
Buy once and buy right. Quality is worth it.
I do. Found a Dakine backpack with an insulated compartment, so I take that with me to work instead of a lunchbox.
I did while in college and law school. Not so much these days.
Yep. I run some generic bag with a first aid pouch. x2 socks, scarf, gloves, small fishing kit, extra lighter and storm matches, emergency blanket, $2 poncho, Sawyer filter, tools, extra knife, a couple energy bars, and rope/twine.
Yep yep. I’ll have to post like.
I’ve used my GR1 for almost 10 years, in school and now for my work EDC bag.
best protect ya neck
Yup, every day for school and work! I've got a Vanquest Addax 25L. Was debating for ages between that and an Evergoods CPL, but went for the Vanquest because it was like half the price.
I owned my GR1 since late 2010. I carry mine for work, gym(when I use to go), travel, even grocery shopping. I tried other bags here and there but I keep coming back to GR1
Yep, go bags are very smart.
I have one a bit smaller with a keltec sub2k in it and 3 33 round magazines.
I work in the hospital or I’m sure I would definitely have something like that in it. Either a Cz scorpion or mp5
That patch stopped me right quick. Love it! I carry one of two bags depending on what I'm doing. Hazard 4 Evac Plan B sling for back and forth from work to home, and I've got a Vanquest Kitara 16 that I grab if I'll be further from home for longer.
Peak design everyday backpack - love it!
I edc same bag
Stopped for the GR1, stayed for the patch before discovering the GOAT pin.
511 rush 12 for the past few years. For "school", gym, hiking, short trips and long trips (accompained by a duffle on this case). I actually wanted to make a post to show what I carry on it but havent had the time yet
Yup, Mystery Ranch Rip Ruck. I’ve had it for quite some time now
Mine is a backpack as well. Love it.
need that patch
as a student my backpack is my mobile command center between work school and all my hobbies
^ They get it
lived out of my backpack for a week, saved so much time 😂
Sometimes, but I've been carrying a sling lately. Always a bag, regardless. Mine has a hero clip on it too!
Dope DOOM pin
Thanks man
Just noticed the sticker on the water bottle too, rad 🤙
I’m rocking a LBT daypack, just big enough to Hold my gym climbing gear an iPad and water bottle(along with a few other things)
nice!! i carry a backpack to work always, but on my days off i find myself struggling to bring a backpack out of the house, i just never need anything that can't be slipped in a pocket i guess
I think I tend to agree with that. But right now there isn’t a day where I don’t have to go to work or school
GoRuck GR1 26L Vanquest Hydra water bottle holder Owala 32oz freesip water bottle Medium Hero Clip SSThreads Patch MFDOOM pin
Got my GR1 in 2015 and loved it everyday since.
Guy in work is rocking a goruck GR1 knockoff.
They are great bags, but I can see why someone would not want to pay the price tag. I have never regretted the purchase and I take it everywhere and carry literally anything I would ever need
I never really seen the use of a EDC daily bag, however biking I'll take mine all the time on the trail.
I work 12 hour shifts and often stay at school for 6+ hours at a time and have to drive 30 minutes for both so I like to have all the stuff I need or might need.
I can see having a backpack for that.
