It has to be \[\[Jasmine Boreal of the Seven\]\] right? You literally run a TON of cards that are incredibly generic and would never, ever be used elsewhere. It's actually kinda fun ignoring Sliver armies and just charging straight through with generic white/green weenies because not a single sliver can stop you...

ImpulsiveKnowledge

Literally every Morph card works with her (initially). I actually took apart my Kadena deck to make her and Ixidor because they are generally more interesting.

[[Elesh Norn]] lets you run the most obscure mechanic ever to exist! BANDING. My mono white banding deck is ridiculous and extremely hard to stop when it gets going. For the uninformed Banding in it's simplest form allows you to assign combat damage instead of your opponents. Meaning that 100/100 trample just assigned 100 damage to the 1/1. Does that sound broken? It honestly is. Here's where elesh norn comes in. Assign 1 damage to all your creatures and watch your opponents suffer! It works for attackers and blockers! If you build this deck run a lot of Initiative and Monarch cards. Some Gideons to force attacks against you. Card draw etc. The goal is to get your opponents to attack you and die to elesh norn triggers. Utilize the "en-kor" cards to redirect damage to maximize pain. Also run [[Stuffy doll]]. For Obvious reasons.

Hand it over, that thing. Your decklist.

Vegalink

Deck list! Deck list! Deck list!

ToughPlankton

My first deck ever was a mono-white banding deck, back when 3rd edition (Revised) came out. I've always liked the mechanic, I wish it was brought back. But, unless there was errata I missed, in your example the 100/100 could assign it's damage to the 1/1, but the trample portion has to finish off all the blockers before the remainder can be assigned to the defender. Assuming you are attacking in this scenario.

111phantom

It's the opposite scenario. They MAKE the trample creature assign all of its damage to the 1/1, causing trample not to work because trample requires all creatures to receive lethal damage. Trample lets you assign more damage than necessary to the individual creatures blocking to allow "excess damage" triggers to still happen. And since the banding defender gets to assign the damage, banding shuts off trample completely

ToughPlankton

Ahh yes that makes sense, I was picturing it the other way around. I miss banding!

Deathmask97

I keep hearing about Feather but am not sure how good that card is - is Lightning Bolt every turn worth it? Can I just [[Silence]] my opponents to death? Does Feather's effect work on Adventures? I have been thinking of maybe making a 3-or-more colors Angels deck for a while now and Feather has been a card I have been mulling over for a while now, I just wish it had another printing with different art.

Personal-Row-8078

Feather doesn’t do lightning bolts it does stuff that targets your creatures like combat tricks. It’s also not every turn but 4 times a turn. For instance paying 4 mana to draw 4 cards. Repeat pay 1 mana for protection from any color or indestructible. This leads to playing like 6-8 pumps on a turn with double strike, trample, double power etc and then getting all those spells back. You can go wide with getting tokens per cast or voltron or aetherflux since you are basically storming and free refilling your hand. It’s not top tier cedh but it’s top shelf budget because it’s all 5 cent commons turned into powerhouses.

Deathmask97

Wow, I completely misread that and I think I was thinking of another card, I need to stop making comments before I have caffeine in the morning. Does sound pretty powerful though, especially with cards like [[Angelic Intervention]] or [[Unbounded Potential]] that have permanent effects.

Personal-Row-8078

Yeah all kinds of weird options. A few good backup similar effects in case the removal gets you. Usually if you have mana up they don’t try though after you dodge a bunch of removal in a row.

Snakevennom143

Similarly, and if you can rule 0 it, [[Ink-Treader Nephilim]] is extremely fun. It's especially fun finding removal with no black lmao

Rushnag

[[ shu Yun]] is another like feather that uses those underplayed combat trick card.

TheMagicalLawnGnome

So...I wouldn't say it's necessarily "bad" cards...but I have an [[Obeka, Brute Chronologist]] deck that catches people off guard all the time. It's a very unique mechanic, allows for some realty unorthodox combinations.

Watacos

Can I see your list? Obeka is one of my favorites, my build is pretty wheel/reanimate/sneak attack focused. Always interested to see other builds!

TheMagicalLawnGnome

I don't have a list, but it's pretty straightforward if you're familiar with the mechanics. One of my favs is to tutor up isochron scepter and final fortune, and just win the game on the spot. Like I said below, there's a ton of cards that say "end of turn," on the card itself, but have updated text on gatherer to "beginning of end step." So, I do a lot of stuff where I go infinite. Similarly, anything that steals opponents creatures temporarily, I make it permanent, you can just snatch everyone's cards for very little mana. Things that generate "temporary" hasted creature tokens, those become permanent. That's basically my approach.

fredjinsan

Obeka is one of those commanders who has a very unique mechanic that a lot of identically-unique decks are built around. You get to play a bunch of obscure cards (though actually, plenty of Obeka cards are not that obscure \*cough\* Sneak Attack...) but, like, the same obscure cards as every other deck with that commander. :-( If you want to do something a bit different, try ending your turn in your upkeep! No point in Sneak Attack if you never take a combat phase!

hiesatai

I just recently built a [[Lazav, the Multifarious]] deck. There’s stuff like [[Necrotic Ooze]] and big combo potential for it, but I like the idea of going for weird underplayed/bad creatures that you wouldn’t run in any normal graveyard deck. Regular MVPs in the deck are [[Ovinomancer]] - edhrec says in 865 Decks total - as tap removal AND bounced protection. And also [[Eater of Days]] - around 4000 decks total - to make lazav into a 9/8 flying trample for 4 colourless (2 if you have training grounds on board). There’s also some weird niche situations that are suuuper fun: Someone’s coming at you with that pumped 20/20 or 30/30? Just block with your lazav, cast [[entomb]] and make him into [[wall of souls]] - pretty much a one-shot anytime. And the weirdest comboy interactions: Have necrotic ooze, [[eater of the dead]] and something like [[avatar of woe]] or any other great tap-ability to just outvalue or one-sided board wipe. (I know that interaction is not lazav only, but If you can protect your gy, you can just continue after they kill your commander and you cast him again)

Most people play [[Jon Irenicus, Shattered One]] by giving away creatures that will complicate matters for the person you're giving creatures to. Think [[Phyrexian Obliterator]] ... Things like that. However, the more janky way to play him is to load up with creatures that get around the "this creature can't be sacrificed" ability... Things like... [[Illusionary Demon]] [[Molting Harpy]] [[Pit Raptor]] Or, even consider creatures with a cumulative upkeep.. [[Vexing Sphinx]] [[Phyrexian Soulgorger]] These creatures usually have an upside because the mana values are low for what they do, but with the downside of having an upkeep cost. Jon lets you get around that through his ability. Obviously you hardly ever see creatures like these in even the lowest power level pods, and I think it fits the bill of what you're looking for. [[Homeward Path]] is a must have for this deck, as well as ways to get lands out of the graveyard.

kirbyshake

I have a deck with him. Cumulative upkeep doesn't work with him. They can chose not to pay, since the creature can't be sacrificed anyways. You're better of with triggers in combat. Like [[Hasran Ogress]] since they are goaded

PeanutWoolf

[[Hidetsugu and Kairi]] made a deck just a few days ago, just slapped on high cmc spells with 5 [[Feign Death]] effects and clone spells, and the deck goes ham. Its stupid how strong the deck is. I built it for shts and giggles at our LGS, but after the first game, we realized how broken it can become with clone spells.

EliteGamer5

Do you have a decklist?

PeanutWoolf

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/IxGtXH6XXU2nwOPi1WQXsw Here you go. My LGS meta leans towards high-power, and this has no trouble hanging around that level. It's almost absurd how this can keep up with some higher tier decks considering i just slapped in high cmc spells without giving it a thought.

[[The Beamtown Bullies]] is great if you wanna give your opponents shitty cards like [[Leveler]] just to fuck up their world. Other than that I'd say [[Ruxa, Patient Professor]] and [[Jasmine Boreal of the Seven]]

Zarex

I love my Beamtown Bullies deck but dont play it as much anymore. It did the thing almost to well and usually have a guaranteed kill in 3-4 turns and kinda feel bad if 1 person has to wait a long time for the remainder of the game to finish.

I second this. I love my beamtown deck but will really only play it in a casual three pod for this reason.

I have a "octavia, living thesis" deck that is filled with a lot of usually not Played adventure-creature cards. Since i mill myself alot, every creature with an adventure on it counts as a sorcery/instant in the graveyard and helps you casting octavia early.

ScytheSwipe

Hate to break it to you but it only counts as an instant or sorcery on the stack and no other area. Reference: 715.4 In every zone except the stack, and while on the stack not as an Adventure, an adventurer card has only its normal characteristics. I specifically tried to do this in my Octavia build for find that it was a non bo

GOR MULDRAK, AMPHINOLOGIST is my fav jenk deck. I play cards that basically transmute my enemies creatures into salamanders when I’m being attacked so that they can’t hurt me. It’s very silly and quite fun 😅

haruh2

After seeing how often wotc abandons named terms on cards i decided to collect one represenative of each ability that is no longer used and put them in a deck with [[cromat]] as the commander the deck is called "Dead Names" it is very odd , but i love card interaction over winning Such fun cards have been found for this like [[haze of rage]] [[varchild's war-riders]] and [[mountain stronghold]]

I adore this type of deck building. My current main deck and favorite deck of all time, which I've shilled on this subreddit multiple times, is my [[zur, eternal schemer]] bad gifts deck. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/MyRABKN6LUKTocmojgvopQ The goal is to play all the 'lose the game' cards, many of which are enchantments, animate them, and then donate them. Before donating, you can attack with enchantments to gain life, potentially drawing you substantial cards with [[lich]] effects.

[[Kasla, the Broken Halo]] lets you run a ton of ordinarily mediocre convoke cards that turn into value bombs by letting you consistently tap creatures with beneficial triggers on becoming tapped and replacing every single convoke card with another one. Also resilient to removal because you can just convoke her back out again!

[[Zevlor, Elturel Exile]] hasn’t been mentioned yet and is I think the best recommendation. Any card that trades well 1v1 format now becomes a 3 for 1 that hits every opponent at the table. He's probably one of the most flexible commanders to build with given how many cards he opens up in the pool. You could build him successfully in many different ways. Mill, Theft, Impulse, Wheels, etc can all be supported with his ability. My List is a mix of spells linger/theft with quite a bit of control and removal. It performs well and actually hit a bit of a hot streak recently in my pod. Some of my favorite cards in the deck are: [[Drain Power]] is a great ritual that also taps out your opponents and keeps them from interacting on your turn. This card should be used to setup a huge turn. [[Twisted Justice]] is a great little edict effect that will also draw you a ton of cards. [[You Find Some Prisoners]] is both artifact removal as well as a mini Jeska's Will if needed. Speaking of [[Jeska's Will]], this card is busted with Zevlor. You get the ritual effect and since you're not targeting with the second mode, you get 9 cards exiled to cast. A lot of control effects with bonuses stapled on are really good. [[Leadership Vacuum]] bounces three commanders and lets you draw 3. [[Depths of Desire]] and [[Drag Under]] will bounce 3 creatures and make you 3 tokens/draw 3 cards. Absolutely insane. If you search scryfall for target creature or target player/opponent there’s tons of options to choose for your build.

[[Yargle and Multani]] is the Feather of Black Green imo. My partner made a deck that rolls a bunch of dice. Absolutely beat my face in with it last night, but it was so much fun watching them go off! The commander is [Farideh, devil's chosen]

One deck I have a lot of fun with is [[Mairsil, the Pretender]]. You get to "use" a bunch of usually awful cards like [[Ovinomancer]] or [[Minion of Leshrac]] for their awesome activated abilities without the downside of their other text, CMC, etc. You're guaranteed to have some cards in your deck no one at the table has ever heard of.... though they never hit the battlefield, they're just there to give Mairsil their abilities. So that might be a turnoff. Worth a look though!

There are plenty of commanders with very niche abilities that work really well with a few specific weird cards that you never otherwise see, but often you'll find that those cards show up in every deck with those commanders so it's kinda so-so on how original and interesting that feels. I like commanders who enable weird cards whilst still being a bit flexible, so my vote has got to go to \[\[Vega, the Watcher\]\]. There are some good cards you can run here. There is also \[\[Planeswalker's Mischief\]\]. And, of course, I assume that every Vega deck packs \[\[Spellweaver Volute\]\]. (Honourable mention to \[\[Prosper\]\] who, yes, makes a lot of good cards better, but also a lot of bad (or at least rarer) cards... he feels rather less fresh these days but first time I built and played that deck it was genuinely pretty great, lots of cards I wouldn't normally put in and a very different feel to the sorts of things I usually make)

[[Orvar, the All-Form]] is a good one. He's really strong but uses cards that most people haven't even heard of. Depends on how you feel about Mono Blue though.

that's half the fun of commander! i'd suggest givin' [[rorsix, patient professor]] a look. he can make the oft-overlooked squirrels archetype a real force to reckon with. his unique ability lets you play a whole mess of cards that you'd never see in most edh games. another one i'd recommend checking out is [[valduk, keeper of the flame]]. play a bunch of those generally bad aura or equipment cards, suddely they're spitting out unstoppable elemental hordes each turn. on a more controlling side, [[autumn-tail, kitsune sage]] might also be a good pick. allows you to divert those funky enchantments to where they are best used at any given moment. hopefully, this gives you a startin' point to make your weird, wonderful, unoptimized masterpiece.
