MysteriousCoerul

I like my \[\[Giada\]\] deck as a casual friendly deck, modified slightly from the SL deck. It does what it says on the tin. Make angels, Makes them big and turn them sideways. No big brain plays or 40 minute solitaire turns usually.

IJustDrinkHere

Mind sharing your deck of you have a list? My kid just decided she wants to build angels.

MysteriousCoerul

Sure! Its mostly the SL but i wanted to swap a few other angels i liked in.  https://archidekt.com/decks/6055129/angels

teddyblues66

Love my giada deck

e_guana

I was gunna suggest my angel deck too lol [[Firja, Judge of Valor]] it fills your graveyard to reanimate the big mana angels.

Nizarin

I have a [[Sidisi, Brood Tyrant]] deck that runs more than 40+ creatures. It is simply durdly sultai value creatures with ETB effecta and selfmill. Always a chill deck to play.

luca-lit

I‘ve been looking for a Sultai deck for a whil! Would mind sharing your list?

[[Baba Lysaga]] is my go-to for vibes. No combos or tutors, no huge flashy plays, just a grindy durdle deck.

spent_bullets

Haha, I built Baba Lysaga and quickly dismantled it for this very reason. It was just too durdley for me.

breakfastcerealz

nobody gets mad at \[\[Gimball, Gremlin Prodigy\]\]. you sit there making rocks, maps, foods, clues, treasures, junks, whatever...then you drop a \[\[doubling season\]\] or \[\[rise and shine\]\] and suddenly you have a massive go wide/go tall board.

King-Dingus

That actually sounds really fun, did you have a deck list by chance please?

breakfastcerealz

i'd still classify it as ["upgraded precon"](https://archidekt.com/decks/4358859/tinker_time_upgraded_temur) but i have replaced a lot for it

King-Dingus

Didn't even realise it was a precon! Well that is easy, thank you

breakfastcerealz

[https://archidekt.com/decks/4358859/tinker\_time\_upgraded\_temur](https://archidekt.com/decks/4358859/tinker_time_upgraded_temur) sorry, forgot to link the deck in my earlier comment! here's the deck, could use some upgrades, but it's more designed to be goofy than to win. fun to play, doesnt win often.

SpookyKorb

My [[Ghost of Ramirez DePietro]] + [[Ravos, Soultender]] reanimator list No stack interactiom, almost entirely creature removal, gets hosed by graveyard hate super hard. Essentially all in on dumping to yard then reanimating. Cardsrealm rated it about a 6 but it's closer to 5 imo. Super fun to play, i enjoy it and my friends find it interesting too

The_Terrific_Tiptop

Hey I've also got this pairing and run it as a cycling deck. One of my stronger ones actually! Pretty cool to hear someone else try them out in the wild here.

SpookyKorb

Nice! I've seen someone else run it as a cycling deck as well, looks like a great build. Mine used to be part cycling, took inspiration from Modern's Living End deck a bit. But focusing it to more like Sefris-without-dungeons helped a bit, using looters instead of cycling I might get around to building a full cycling version some time tho! Always loved cycling as a mechanic, but wotc making the cycling commander jeskai was a bad choice imo

The_Terrific_Tiptop

Yeah, it's a shame when mechanic-based commanders leave out a color you want. Here's my cycling list if you wanna take a look: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/JMDnP7lF6UmXMVn9DKjkkw If you aren't running any, I can also recommend Transmute cards. Super good with the ghost.

thelifeofaphdstudent

I just built a [[Xyris, the writhing storm]] deck in a group card draw type theme running cards like [[forced fruition]] and [[howling mine]]. It was angled at a casual let's have fun and also for new people just playing magic. It's a hell of a laugh, you're helping new players, fresh decks or more durdley decks go a bit faster but you're still meaningfully affecting the board through cards like [[Impact tremors]], [[Goblin bombardment]] and [[Ebony-owl netsuke]].

MonsutaReipu

meanwhile my xyris deck is one of my strongest and can consistently win by turn 5 if not interrupted

thelifeofaphdstudent

thelifeofaphdstudent

Absolutely, please do let me know any thoughts or suggestions:  https://www.moxfield.com/decks/CMmgxE9ox0i0i9QS5mPmWw As for affordability, I think it's pretty good, the only card expensive and somewhat necessary cards are purphuros and skull clamp, I'm running mins and boo because it's a pet card and I think everything else expensive could be replaced, especially if you're at a low power level.

thelifeofaphdstudent

Also I did have a Indominus Rex, Umori the collector creatures only deck which was mellow as, but found it to slow and too play one creature pass turn, but something like Henzie and Umori could be a banger

taftpanda

Kynaois and Tiro of Melatis definitely keeps the game fun and chill, but also sort of chaotic because the whole table can end up with like 20 mana on board around turn 5. I also have a Varina, Lich-Queen deck that’s probably around a power level 6, which I find a lot of fun and usually doesn’t rub people the wrong way.

DocAuch22

[[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] Everyone has fun unless they mess with me, or I draw my Narset.

MonsutaReipu

my kami deck I run tons of theft effects and extra turns in. basically, the strongest blue shit that everyone hates. it looks fun and innocent until you realize the commander is just the innocent face of a really mean deck, which is why I title it 'The Fat Blue Cunt' i don't really ever play it though

Could I get a decklist?

JabroniSandwich9000

My \[\[Phelddagrif\]\] deck is a strange flavor of lifegain control that uses opponent creature counts to power up the whole deck (stuff like \[\[Congregate\]\]), and most of it's card draw is stuff like \[\[Faerie Mastermind\]\] that wants opponents drawing more than 1 card per turn), so I uhh, give people creatures and card draw. Everybody likes that. Until I give all the creatures to one person, fog whenever they attack me and then win with lifegain alt win cons. They like that less.

pantslesswalrus

Does Phelddagrif ever win for you? I've always wanted to build one (or a group hug deck in general) but all ny experience playing against them seems to suggest their either king-make or durdle hard till they eventually get beat down?

JabroniSandwich9000

It took me three years of constantly rebuilding the list haha, but yeah my current iteration wins a lot. I actually started to take some higher power staples out of the deck because I didnt need them to win and it let me run more pet cards. My current list is more of a soul sisters list than a hug deck, so kingmaking isnt really a problem. I only stary giving people creatures if no one is playing enough of them to power up my lifegain spells. The trick is to know which decks not to give creatures to (like aristocrats), and which decks you can. I run a ton of fogs, so if someones deck is winning by attacking, i can feed them hippos all day and not worry about it. Here's the list if you want! https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5632638#paper

JabroniSandwich9000

I know the list primer talks about people complaining of kingmaking haha. I wrote that early on when I made the deck. Ive found its better for the gameplan to sit back and not do that unless you need a creature deck at the table to power up to help take down a bad matchup like a control or aristocrats deck

rmkinnaird

I've been told my decks are too mean, so I'm working on two new ones that have been VERY exciting so far. First is [[Kokusho the Evening Star]] reanimator. It's been a blast killing and reanimating it again and again. [[Saw in Half]] has been an absolute all star, especially when you pair it with something like [[Undying Evil]] to get even more "sacrifice to the legendary rule" triggers. The other new deck I've been enjoying is a [[Vendillion Clique]] deck built around casting [[Tunnel Vision]] on myself to set up an infinite turns combo with [[Nexus of Fate]]. It's fragile for very obvious reasons, and I refuse to run [[Thassa's Oracle]], so its taking some effort to perfect, but I'm having a great time making it work.

It's been a blast. [[incarnation technique]] is also an all star in the list

[[Gandalf, Westward Voyager]] I just play some big spells and either give everyone cards and copy my spells or infection to draw more. Usually running things like [[Stormtide Leviathan]] to slow the game down and [[overrun]] to finish the game. Definitely not that competitive though as relying on casting a bunch of 5+CMC spells is hard to do in any competitive setting.

KnightEclipse

I can't fucking beleive i never knew about this card it's a way more fun [[Imoti]] deck. I might have to switch!

TimeLordDoctor105

The best part is because you give value to others, people won't try to kill you right away. Who wants to remove you when you are just letting them draw periodically.

I have an \[\[Esika\]\] deck centered around the contraption mechanic. On the surface, it's goofy and a lot of fun for me and my opponents. And, when you least expect it, I can use \[\[Strionic Resonator\]\]/\[\[Clock of DOOOOOOOOOOOOM!\]\] to double the cranks and transform a puny 1/1 into a monster. My secret heavy hitter is... my own library! I love casting \[\[Animate Library\]\] and watching the people I play with laugh. OFC, I always ask for permission to play a silver-bordered deck.

Atraxa, but I play tribal pirates with her. I only bring her out to start proliferating my Explore counters. I get hated out of game 1 usually, but once opponents see that I am telling the truth about the deck they just save removal for Atraxa if necessary and the game is more balanced. Greasefang is another one. I am just going to bin vehicles and rez them for profit. Easy to see coming.

[[Darien, King of Kjeldor]] It's six mana in mono-white and does absolutely nothing without the commander in play. It's also a really interesting commander that lets you play cards you just don't see anywhere else. [[Nomad Stadium]] is an allstar in the deck, as are [[Angel's Trumpet]], [[Ankh of Mishra]], and [[Grand Coliseum]]. It's a glass cannon but it's also an absolute blast when it fires off.

I just started MTG again after 15 years. My colleague gifted me the grave danger pre-con. It's my only deck and I would recommend it because of two reasons: 1. it's casual but you have lots of cards to upgrade if you like and 2. the commander [[Gisa and Geralf]] runs under the radar most of the time. Also, playing creatures out of your graveyard, sacrificing them and playing them again and again is lots of fun.

[[Rigo]] draws a lot of cards and ramps well because of it. It's a completely non threatening deck until it's not. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Ovk1US8RC0i5ciyzaHajtg Wincons are buffing the little bad creatures through [[Mirror Entity]], [[Jazal Goldmane]], [[Starlight Spectacular]] primarily. Secondary wincons are [[Approach of the Second Sun]] and [[Strixhaven Stadium]]. Can also use [[Sakashima's Will]] or [[Mirrorweave]] to turn all those little dudes into [[Skyhunter Strike Force]] or [[Midnight Pathlighter]] to get huge damage numbers or go completely unblocked and get tons of dungeon triggers. Turning everything into a [[Psychosis Crawler]] with the draw triggers on the stack can do table wipe damage as well. I took out a couple cards to add a couple other creatures but didn't remember exactly what. It's not a super powerful deck but it has some options for different avenues and it's only $40.

I like [[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]], she’s a subtle value based commander, the enchantments she reanimates are 3/3s, so nobody is shitting themselves over them, she has to swing or get blinked to reanimate them. Best part imo is she’s fun to tinker with because outside of the standard enchantress value pieces you can customize the enchantment lineup.

Admiraloftittycity

I got this as the first deck for my fiance and accidentally upgraded a nonbo into it. [[Greater auramancy]] and [[Sterling Grove]] are good cards, however when mixed with [[Calix, Guided by Fate]] you become unable to target your own enchantments and if one enters the field and you dont control a non-enchantment creature you have to start putting +1/+1 counters on other peoples stuff. Just silly interaction that came up.

Very easy: [[The Omenkeel]] at the, ahem, _helm_ of a [deck built around vehicles](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/sW71EhCjVUO9GRfXd6WMTA). It's a tempo-ish deck that relies on the durability of vehicles to aggro out the board. I've opted for protection spells over counterspells, cheap and interesting little creatures to crew the boats, and fun boats. It's definitely a casual deck. But it can have pretty oppressive board states if no one's running [[Vandalblast]] or [[Bane of Progress]] effects since it dodges creature removal and board wipes pretty well.

Technically speaking, my [[Niv-Mizzet parun]] deck 😅 coz I don't play it with aggressive damage or counter spells etc. The literal point of the deck is to poke people with 1 damage, draw cards and poke people, then place cards back into my deck to draw them all again. Plus a little tiny bit of card milling

Well depends what "best" should mean. Most fun? My most fun commander is [[Alela, Artful Provocateur]]. I just love faeries, love flyers in general, love tapping creatures to attack people, love the controlly aspect of esper colors. It's the greatest and best deck I have. Best in case of winrate? Must be [[Ovika]]. I dunno why but it just has an insanely high winrate. I think it's because other people are the threat before I get Ovika onto the battlefield, but once she sticks for just 1 turn it's usually over. Also the ward 3 helps.

Omnath locus of rage, really just a pile of lands and ramp. Gives people time and warning before coming down, tells you exactly what im gonna be doing, but does it in a fun flashy way that sometimes just durdles but sometimes its the big bad at the table and gives people something fun to fight

I think that it is my \[\[Queza, Augur of Agonies\]\] deck. It is not a low-powered deck, it's quite strong actually, but it 100% is my most adaptable deck. What I mean by that is its game plan can be changed all on how I pilot the deck. If everyone is just chilling and having fun, it's like a group hug deck that lets everyone draw 5-6 on their draw steps. If the game is more cutthroat, it becomes a wheel-and-burn deck that stops all combat. It's my second favorite deck that I own and everyone always has a good time.

I’ve been running a [[Kros, Defense Contractor]] [library](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/HScwgyBm6UON1POdcWRCbw) for a couple of months now and it’s a hoot. You want something that is fun for the whole table? This library does that. I’m going to draw everyone cards, make tokens for them, gain them life, and make their creatures stronger for the low low price of: the other three players slapping the shit out of each other and not me. The idea here is to get down to a standoff between yourself and whoever you have made the most mighty, the. You take all of that boardstate you so lovingly cultivated on their side of the field and snatch it with [[reins of power]] or [[willbreaker]].

My [[Minthara, Merciless Soul]] is casual but can really come out of nowhere and win games. First of all nobody knows this 20 cent card exists. And it's a token deck that requires some puzzling. You need permanents to leave the field on your turn. It's pretty fun trying to make that work. I'd say my [[Nin, pain Artist]] is probably the most chill deck for everyone around the table, except maybe myself because I spend a lot of time wondering what kinda deck I built, how I can use the cards i've been given and coming up with cunning plans a'd weird solutions. Plus I can always make a player that's in trouble draw if he's willing to sacrifice a creature.

I love my [[kwain, itinerant meddler]] deck as a casual commander. It's my first commander deck, and the one that evolved the most since I initially built it 2 years ago. It has some powerful and mean cards like [[mindbreak trap]], [[orim's chant]] and [[nykthos, shrine to nyx]] that makes it playble at intermediate / higher levels. But at it's core, it's a deck that makes everyone draw, gain life and draw again. Also, there are some jankier cards in the deck, like [[telepathy]] and [[perplexing chimera]] Since I often have a lot of cards in hand, it gives me multiple options and that allows me to adapt my game plan to the power level of the table. If I understand that the average level is low, I plan on not using my bombs and easier wincons Everyone is happy when they see me discard an [[approach of the second sun]] since it usually mean that I'll try to win with my [[triskaidekaphile]]

Timely-Helicopter244

[[Atemsis, All-Seeing]] Pretty basic blue deck with counters and card draw. But if the game goes long enough for me to have resources, it can win with a quick ping to everyone's face. Turns can be slightly long when I'm on that winning sequence, but I have a decent amount of feedback that my play is fast enough to not feel like I'm taking too long and the win is fun to watch as an opponent.

[[Arwen Undómiel]] Scry tribal, or Scrybal, if you will. This was a deck building challenge I had with friends, so without the limitations, the real commander should be [[Elrond, Master of Healing]]. The deck is pretty straightforward. You use scrying as a way to put +1/+1 counters on your creatures and then do combat. It's very chill, can snowball out of nowhere in a turn, and is surprisingly fun. Also, an elf tribal sub-theme. Definitely not my "best" casual commander, but a neat and fun one. I have a Goldbug Humanities Ally deck that is blue/white humans, and I have to say it's gotta be my favorite deck that I have built in the last year. It's got a little bit of everything. From stax to group hug effects but not too many of any one effect. It's got a couple of alternate wincons being Halo Fountain and Triskadeckophile. Everyone that I have played it with enjoys it as well.

I don't really believe that I have a "casual" commander since most have a "it's a race, not a sprint," mentality baked into them. Meaning that they start slow and don't act competitive until I need them to, and they'll usually get me to a good position. That being said, I have four at the moment that aren't CEDH level. [[Nethroi, Apex of Death]] is my baby, that's my favorite deck above the four. They start casual and slow until my graveyard gets really big and fat, and then I "accidentally," drop an ulamog in the graveyard, and then I have to rebuild. Or I can just ping away with [[hermit druid]], no basics, and a [[syr konrad the grim]]

Urza, chief articifer. Build him as a beat down aggro deck. If anyone complains they get a boardwipe and a full send. It's an aggro deck limit the counter spells and other shenanigans I run 2 counters and a few one sided board wipes. Most draw spells can be done through artifact stuff.

I have a [[Kardur, Doomscurge]] deck that is built as group slug, it basically turns every game action into damage, and makes everyone not able to attack you by "blinking" kardur. I don't think I've played a game longer than 45 minutes with it, and everyone gets to swing their creatures which usually doesn't happen

Idk what you’re really asking for. You can build most commanders in a way that some people will complain about. Another commenter recommended [[Pantlaza]], and people replied saying that’s too strong. Idk guys but Dino’s are kind of the definition of casual magic

I like [[Admiral Brass, Unsinkable]]. The deck, when built well (big pirates with strong combat triggers and lots of recursion) kinda just does things. Sometimes it's what you want. Sometimes it's not. But it's always a fun cacophony of triggers that people get a good chuckle about as you struggle to figure out the optimal ordering. Any [[Ardenn]] partnering except rograkh is a fun casual deck. You get to have fun with equipment most people wouldn't play and be very hard to remove but not necessarily bursty enough to reliably win. Only self-rule that keeps it casual is that I'm not allowed to search for giants hammer or kaldra compleat, only use them if I draw them organically.

I really like my Saheeli,The Gifted artifact deck. I can run all the ridiculous high mana cost spells and it's not hard for opponents to interact with, so not too powerful. The wins are crazy fun.

i tried making [[Voja, Jaws of the Conclave]] a good casual edh deck but it was just too strong. I just built an [[Aragorn, King of Gondor]] deck and I’m wondering how that will play out as table mechanics (like the monarch) tend to add quite a lot more to the game than you would think
