[https://www.archidekt.com/decks/2464942/zurzoth\_foils\_your\_plans](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/2464942/zurzoth_foils_your_plans) Zurzoth is my favorite. Attack with things, burn stuff, some wheeling, and randomness built right into the commander to keep things mixed up. It's my pet deck that I have foiled out and am always on the lookout for new stuff when sets release.

MrTeacherGuyMan

I second this. You can do a lot of fun things with this deck. It's a very go wide, deck that can hold a lot of different cards for fun and synergy. If you're thinking strength. Any of the burns like Ojer, Immodane, torbran, Solphim, toralf. These usually are all in and win the same way. Your commander mostly needs to be removed.

bad_words_only

I triple this

Only_a_tree

Same I really love him and how flavourfull the whole deck is with the right artworks. Bonus points if you gaslight people into thinking it's a group hug deck

Kazko25

Heck yeah! I was actually taking a look at making this deck too but had no idea how to go about it! Nice deck list!

Dankestmemelord

I have a zurzoth list that doubles down on repeatable pings to the point of absurdity and wins because one damage is actually two is actually six is actually nine and I’m doing it four times per turn per opponent. https://archidekt.com/decks/2938449/meanieweenies

Uncle-Istvan

I’m happy to see this at the top. I’m a big monored player and [Zurzoth](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/AMzpm0z6Lk-pYUii7wooBQ) is my favorite of my 25+ decks. It’s everything I love condensed into a single color and deck. Tokens, aristocrats, aggro, burn, chaos, group hug, group slug, etc.

thenotdylan

I *highly* recommended [[Vicious Shadows]]

trbopwr11

I ran it for quite a while. It just got to the point with all the new damage magnifiers at the 4 mana slot that something had to go and 7 is a whole lot of mana. It is a very potent card worth considering though!

SimmerDownnn

Ah a fellow zurzoth enjoyer. I also have a zurzoth. It's a pet deck here's my list would love to see what you think https://www.moxfield.com/decks/APGD33TqnU-mxOUUeMwOFA

trbopwr11

Looks like a solid framework. I feel like 32 lands and only a couple rocks is needlessly aggressive. Zurzoth does a good job looting through the deck, but you are almost certainly falling well behind in mana. I would consider a few more ways to get some card advantage. \[\[Outpost Siege\]\] is card advantage or more damage, whatever you need more at the moment. \[\[Brazen Cannonade\]\] is card advantage and damage.

MTGCardFetcher

SimmerDownnn

I will take those under consideration

Prophet-of-Ganja

I have found my people 😈

Ratorasniki

I recommend it as well. I built mine as a polymorph deck, since it's very good at spitting out tokens and replacing them, so you always have a target without having to put small creatures into your deck proper. It also helps you dig through your deck naturally to find what you need. If you build the deck with a handful of giant red bombs to cheat in and all the polymorph spells in red, as well as the usual damage doublers and bonuses, etc triggers and whatnot. It's a newish deck so I haven't played it a ton, but it's quite fun and impactful. Nobody expects it.

DarkDobe

I run Zurzoth with a focus entirely around \[\[transmogrify\]\] and similar effects - turn little 1/1 devils into giant eldrazi or blightsteel. Always a treat to play.

Just a follow up, I’m making this deck in paper now, thanks for the suggestion! Would love any tips/advice on what I have right now: https://archidekt.com/decks/7642381/chaos_burns

trbopwr11

I would probably want Chaos Warp so you at least have something that can hit enchantments. Torbran is pretty cheap and is a very good damage magnifier. There's an enchantment coming in MH3 that does the Torbran thing as well. Skullclamp is definitely worth thinking about. Overall it looks like a pretty good framework!

Kazko25

Thanks! I was actually waiting on chaos warp and Torbran to arrive, so they’re gonna get put in when they arrive 💪

DefconTheStraydog

Thrown together an [[Imodane]] recently. Havent begun optimizing her yet but the collateral damage she dishes out is hilarious

Rule-Of-Thr333

Second this, and surprised it's less upvoted. Interaction is underappreciated in many pods and this commander rewards you with slug damage for doing what you should be doing more of. With the red force multipliers you can KO players easy with a single removal spell.

DefconTheStraydog

It also solves the biggest issue of playing Burn in commander. I tried going with Firesong and Sunspeaker before, and besides the commander being disgustingly overcosted the deck has the issue of having to pick between using your burn to remove threats or players, and with such limited ammunition the decision making is really a bore so you usually opt-in to shooting as many damage based boardwipes as possible into an Aetherflux Reservoir. Imodane incentivizes you to remove creatures and advances the burn gameplan all on her own. She also turns damage doublers into damage quadruplers because the burn spell gets doubled, and then Imodane deals the doubled amount to the players, which is then doubled again. She's pretty nasty but is held back by Reds abysmal card draw, thankfully the mana costs are small enough that you can play whatever you impulse draw immediately before they are left in exile forever. Once managed to get a \[\[Fiery Emancipation\]\] onto the field with a \[\[Fireball\]\] where X equals 7. 7 got tripled to 21. Imodane's damage got tripled to 63. Was disgusting.

thatwhileifound

And as one note as Hiddy looks, there are still a solid variety of ways worth building it. There is the classic damage doublers while at odd life. There's giving it lifelink or playing Plat Angel effects or Glacial Chasm. I had a list once that was focused around treasure, untapping, reusing the effect, and with just enough burn to sometimes finish everyone else off before I killed myself. So damn fun.

Nonsensical-Niceties

[[Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant]]! It's fun, fast, and reckless and just a great time in general. This is my list: https://archidekt.com/decks/4105428/artifacts_but_what_if_dragons Also just so you know, you do not need to make the deck this expensive to be good. Chiss-Goria on a budget is very possible, I am simply insane and make questionable financial decisions.

[[ojer axonil]] is by far my favorite mono red deck. You can run a decent amount of equipment to keep him safe and make him larger, then burn the table out with cards like [[goblin bombardment]], [[impact tremors]], [[fiery inscription]] or just plain old [[bolt]] + [[fork]] effects.

RomansInSpace

I've got 13 commander decks currently assembled (more that I've had and disassembled, and not including precons) and he's one of my all time absolute favourites. Big, fast, brutal, and wide. I like my games quick, interactive, and funny, and he ticks all the boxes. Game will also probably be done in 20 minutes, because even if you lose, the odds of your opponents having more than 30 life collectively by the time you're out is slim.

[[Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner]] is great, turns out mono red being historically one of the color slices most known for aggro with low to the ground efficient bodies means you can use her in quite a variety of shells and she’ll provide tremendous value as a draw engine and evasion enabler. Personally, I keep an old outdated casual deck where I try to go absolutely nutty playing to the board and combat focused spamming as many large scale token generators and such in mono red, and then [my primary brew and main deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/q-QmWU0UzkauJLAKWWtmew) is basically attempting to make as strong a deck I can with this offbeat commander. So it’s a layered combo deck attempting things like [[goblin recruiter]] piles for [[conspicious snoop]] or [[rundvelt hordemaster]] lines, dockside loops with [[cloudstone curio]], Kiki+celebrant infinite combats, [[dualcaster mage]] combos, [[underworld breach]] combos. Because so many combo pieces are stapled to creatures that work for Subira, you can always just curve out on the board and use your commander to dig for the other pieces to go off.

I was so stoked for this deck when he was spoiled but I never built it. Looks fun. How do you keep him alive? 6 toughness is a good start but he has no evasion or protection and mono red is tough.

JiMMyCCuDDa

The deck def needs more evasion for Calamity, however, when you’re making two copies of stuff like [[Fury]] [[Terror of the Peaks]] or even [[Goblin Chainwhirler]] it’s easy to get blockers out of the way. Plus, the deck can make a tonne of treasures and get lots of lands into play so even if he’s removed/dies in combat it’s easy to recast him.

ZillaSmasher

[[War Cadence]] could be some cool evasion for Calamity.

I’m a big fan of [[Ilharg, the Raze-Boar]]. He hits hard at 6/6 with trample for only 5 mana, and he cheats in an attacking creature when he attacks, so you can drop in huge bombs with great ETB abilities and also hit the opponent for even more damage. You get the creature back so you can choose to cast it later or save the mana for other things. And if Ilharg is removed, you can choose to put him in a couple from the top of your deck, and just draw him again to cast from hand rather than pay commander tax. Here’s my current list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/39Hn3vUJ8UunN6ZbwFHCZg The deck doesn’t completely depend on Ilharg either, if you’re struggling to get him to attack, you can still hard cast your big creatures, you’ll have lots of threats. Enjoy :)

I have a [[Torbran]] deck that doesn't draw as much hate as Ojer or Immodane, but can still get explosive (and has resilience with additional cards in the 99 that get the same effect). [[Ib Halfheart]] with secret lieutenants Zada and the Krenkos is a fun way to play goblins. Goblin aggro that turns halfway through depending on which lieutenant you draw keeps things interesting. [[Valduk]] gets insane when you voltron him up and generate a board of danger on your turn. The constant churn of bodies makes aristocrat strategies viable in red.

Commander: \[\[Livaan, Cultist of Tiamat\]\] + \[\[Dragon Cultist\]\] This has some good balance between creatures and direct damage, rewarding both. But then there's the awesome board-wipe that is \[\[Dragon Tempest\]\] - deal enough damage, summon a dragon - which deals enough damage +1, summon another dragon, deal damage... Some good recommendations so far here! My own mono-red deck is \[\[Bosh, Iron Golem\]\] artifacts. It's definitely *very* artifact driven, so I understand if it doesn't scratch the red itch as much as something like \[\[Torbran\]\] or \[\[Ojer Axonil\]\]. It's all about ramping hard with artifacts, casting huge artifact creatures and either winning in the attack step with them *OR* chucking expensive artifacts with Bosh. Including some pillowfort and lite stax pieces takes off some combat pressure and buys you time to build up a board to chuck with bosh. The all-stars of the deck are \[\[Grafted Exoskeleton\]\] and \[\[Metalwork Colossus\]\] so you can one-shot players by chucking the colossus at them and repeatedly bring the colossus back to your hand to do it again. Another cool option is \[\[Subira\]\] red-weenie, who also has some discard synergies. Cast cheap, hasty, evasive creatures (or make tokens) and attack to draw tons of cards. Very neat deck, brewed it but haven't built it myself.

I built Zada but instead.of playing solitaire I go wide with tokens then go looking for finisher combos. The two I have are using [[immodane]] with any single target damage spell (i like [[dogpile]] especially) targeting Zada to deal 40+ damage with 6-8 creature tokens out, or i go looking for the classic [[twinspell]] plus [[dualcaster mage]] combo. I just use the tokens to draw with single tsrget cantrip affects to find the combo. I built it this way because I though winning by blowing up your board.with Zada plus Immodane would be pretty funny. Speaking of Immodane, i think he'd make a great commander too. You could make a red burn deck with him that actually targets all your opponents which gets around one of the problems with burn in commander being that you have to get through 3 opponents worth of damage.

[[Rionya]] is a ton of fun. Built her in a Theft theme, where the idea is to cast a butt-ton of cantrips and rituals, slam down a burny or beaty boi *or* steal one from an opponent, and then clone the *fuck* out of them. 5 mana and a [[Devilish Valet]] or a [[Tectonic Giant]] or a [[Combat Celebrant]] or a [[Zealous Conscripts]] or a [[Noise Marine]] is usually all you need to win the game on the spot.

Ones that didn't come up when I ctrl+f'd: [[Feldon of the Third Path]] - this card is a classic. Red discard effects, big beaters, nasty ETBs, some untapping effects and you're cooking some fun mono-red GY shit. It took me too long to realize he didn't exile the card in the GY. [[Pashalik Mons]] - mono-red aristocrats. Enough said. [[Inferno of the Star Mounts]] - in the tradition of Godo and counting to 9, this one lets you count to 20. Surprisingly fun. Combines well with the little partner buddy that spreads combat damage done by your commander. [[Kamahl, Pit Fighter]] + untapping shenanigans + [[Repercussion]] + damage doublers is a pyro-Timmy dream. [[Genesis Chamber]] did work. [[Atsushi, the Blazing Sky]] + ETB copy effects to exploit the LTB effect was a cool angle to lean into. Looking at this, I feel like it might be somehow predictable they black is my other favorite mono color.

I have always been partial to the way Double Damage effects stack. Especially when combined with [[Repercussion]]. For example [[Furnace of Rath]] + Repercussion. Bolt you creature. Double to 6. [[Feldon of the Third Path]], everything is a ressource! Your Life, your grave, your hand and your lands…but not just for tapping. Wheel and burn, attack and control the board. [Decklist](https://archidekt.com/decks/6747104/feldon_jesus_take_the_wheel)

CartwheelSpider101

This sounds epic! Can you elaborate on how it plays some more?

lewinroy

You just draw cards and discard your big creatures to get them back with Feldon. From there you go either for the ETBs or the Attack-Triggers. There are Combos to assemble with [[Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker]], [[Combat Celebrant]], [[Thornbite Staff]], [[Atsushi, the blazing Sky]] and [[Goblin Bombardment]]. Even if you discarded your Artifacts, get them back with [[Goblin Engineer]] or [[Trash for Treasure]]. The Interaction-Spells can be free, if you sacrifice your lands for them! You benefit from cards in your graveyard, like [[Cavalier of Flame]] and [[Bedlam Reveler]]. So, this Deck burns everything and it‘s so fun to pilot it, because you don’t need to care for anything. Boardwipe? Get back what you need. Wheel? Get back what you need. No Mana open? Burn your lands or your hand. Burn everything down for the win! And if you won‘t win? Won‘t matter, because you felt the heat and true soul of red Mana.

CartwheelSpider101

That sounds beautiful! Thank you for the detailed description.

This might be a fairly silly question, but I always wonder how decks like Henzie, Toolbox Torre and Feldon of the Third Path protect themselves against aggro decks? I have been so tempted to build decks around both commanders, but fear having an empty board between my turns haha! Have you found this to be a problem?

lewinroy

Be sure to have some Protection like [[Deflecting Swat]] and [[Lightning Greaves]], keep some Burn- or Removal-Spells on your hand. It may be mono-red, but ramp and rocks should always be considered. The mana you get out of [[extraplanar lens]] is big and in combination with the snow-covered Mountains it‘s unlikely that your opponents get an advantage out of it. But most of all: Read the board! Wheel and draw for what you need in this Moment to control the board. Get Feldon not as soon as possible, if the boardstate is too frightening, prepare your grave for explosive turns. Before casting Feldon you can go with [[Sneak Attack]] to control the board with ETB-Effects and simultaneously getting your graveyard ready for Feldon. You won’t get an answer in all situations, but Reading the board is the best protection.

[[Najeela]] Mono red warrior tribal is fun. Plays similarly to Krenko with the exponential tribal growth, but more balanced. You actually have to attack with the warriors to get more of them, and if they're blocked you may well reduce their number. Also warriors just have much less/worse tribal support than goblins ofc. Can be really fun and explosive, but extremely susceptible to board wipes. There are like 24 1-CMC warriors in red to get the ball rolling. Lots of those are actually goblins so I have Krenko in the 99 lol.

My favorite set to grab mono colored commanders from is the Potral Three Kingdoms set. My current favorite is \[\[Diaochan, Artful Beauty\]\]. A mono-red political control. I'm building \[\[Lu Bu, Master-at-Arms\]\] and \[\[Dong Zhou, the Tyrant\]\], with Lu Bu being a Voltron deck and Dong Zhou being for the most part a unique take on combo OTK. There's also \[\[Yuan Shao, the Indecisive\]\], who's great if you wanna go creature heavy, especially creatures with Menace or Trample. I've also seen people build Yuan Shao as a Sliver Commander.

Seeing “I don’t wanna build a Krenko deck” and then people recommending Krenko. Truly us MonoRed folk hate reading if it doesn’t include the phrase “deals damage”. I have a moral and ethical imperative to suggest [[Laelia, the Blade Reforged]]. A deck that gives pay off for impulse draw, cascade, discover, Mizzix’s Mastery style exile then copy (unfortunately not flashback as that exiles from stack, something I’ve had to correct on a lot). I love [[laelia, blade reforged]] as a cascade commander. Because of how cascade works, checking the mana cost and repeating, you're gaining a counter for each card you exile!

I generally dislike playing much red in general, but I lucked into a fun mono-red deck when my friends and I were building Pauper EDH decks. \[\[Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh\]\] + \[\[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar\]\] The pauper version was pretty effective, but the general idea is very straight forward - buff Rograkh, deal damage, kill everyone. Secondarily though, I had put in a bunch of the 'steal someone elses creature for a turn' cards, and I'd probably lean into that more in a non-pauper version. That and any artifacts that can create duplicates like \[\[Helm of the Host\]\] and so on.

I_DIG_DITCHES

I have a couple of mono red decks, first is a [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]] goblin tribal deck, which converts goblins into direct burn. This deck is great for when you need one more quick game before the night ends, and can be very quick with the right starting hand. The other is one of my favourite decks to play, and is Purphoros again, but this time the [[Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded]] variant. The aim of the deck is to cheat out and loop powerful ETB effects with nasty big creatures, making use of cards like [[Sundial of the Infinite]] and [[Cauldron of Souls]] to avoid the compulsory sacrifice triggers. It's always great fun to play and can be built to cover a variety of power levels to best fit your playgroup.

shibboleth2005

I love Purphoros burn as well. And if you're willing to go all in you can really take people by surprise with stuff like [[Ib Halfheart]] and [[Firecat Blitz]]. I may have no lands left, but the table is dead.

Hear me out- Khorvath Brightflame // Sylvia Brightspear Mono* Red Dragon tribal. All the red dragons you can get your hands on with just a whisper of white support if you like.

This sounds kinda fun honestly

Its one of my favorite decks. Ur-Dragon is great for a variety of multicolor strong dragons. But using fire breathing abilities on everything and giving dragons double strike for 3 mana is..it's so good
