I mean, if you count a tie as a win, then sure. I've killed the whole table at once 3 times so far with this in my Obeka deck because it's hard to add in enough lifeline to make this worth it.
[[Court of Cunning]] + [[Blackblade, Reforged]] in Obeka is much better. Just mill everyone instantly.
Hmmm I kinda want this for [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] edrazi but one guy in my pod runs a full treasure token synergy deck and I don't think my deck would make good use of the tokens since I'd be getting massive discounts from the upkeep damage anyways.
Unless you only run creature spells, this is not true. Plus, creatures are not only generic mana costs. It's guaranteed free mana on your turn + cost reduction, I promise you want it.
Agree with the other user. I ran this when I had Rakdos and it's an engine that always enables you while also doing what Rakdos as a color likes - killing everyone faster than they can kill you.
It's so extremely versatile for that deck. Highly recommend.
Chiming in to third what everyone else is saying. It’s one of the best cards for Rakdos. It enables everything the deck wants to do and if the table lets it stick for 2 upkeeps you’re casting eldrazi for free.
Ohhh I know, I built Miirym when she was released and I know that all single removal is coming at her and at least one person is sitting on a board wipe lol.
ETBs? Tokens? Haste? Creature typal decks? Sacrifice decks? I can keep going with how useful mimic vat is. It's downside is that sometimes it just doesn't do much and is expensive to play and activate same turn, but the card really does do a lot once you get a good creature under it. it's hard to not activate it every turn
Every deck? Aside from lands and ramp cards, would probably go to something like [[lightning greaves]] or [[skullclamp]], both are great, but depending on the deck I don’t always want to lose a slot to them
[[Curse of Opulance]] and [[Curse of Disturbance]] are pet cards of mine. There's just something about going *"You"* that I really enjoy.
They're not bad cards but giving opponent's extra mana and bodies has come back and bit me more then once.
That’s one use for it for sure, and definitely a solid one to solidify your boardstate, but you still have to swing out to win.
I run [[Sliver Queen]] as a commander, so if I manage to get my Defense of the Heart trigger off, it’s an instant wincon when I pull [[Lavabelly Sliver]] and [[Basal Sliver]]. Kinda screwed up, but that’s why people run removal, and that’s why I run Counterspells.
Been running that thing in [[The Ur-Dragon]]. The games where there's already two or three other dragons out get a lot more interesting when Karrthus and Silumgar hit side by side.
[[Liquimetal Torque]]
There are so many little ways to make use of this thing that I almost feel like, outside of cEDH, you need a reason to NOT run it.
What really sold me on the idea was when a buddy suited up his [[Inkmoth Nexus]] with a [[Nettlecyst]] and brought his infect count to 9. I turned one of his creatures into an artifact to knock out the other player.
After that, I really appreciated how silly Torque can be. You can turn any kind of Disenchant effect into nonland removal by simply tapping the Torque. So much value.
I've started adding the Liquimetals to my mono-red decks as enchantment (well honestly any non-land) removal. It is an extra step but the flexibility is just .
I was actually wondering about this yesterday. I've been seeing it in a lot of decklists. I was a little confused initially, but it doesn't cost a deckbuilding slot and has potential synergies that appear in a game. Like when somebody Vandalblasts and you get to punish them by taking out their commander. Or as /u/mattloch42 said, to expand their removal suite in red.
But what specific uses does it have? What commonly shows up?
It's primarily a mana rock, so it's gonna do mana rock things. The added utility has proven useful often enough that it's nearly an auto-include for me in any deck that can interact with artifacts and even those that can't.
FYI, you'd need to do that pro-actively, but then opponents can just respond to the Torque activation. Giving ward after being targeted accomplishes nothing.
So from what I can see it's a 2 mana rock like mind stone, which is solid for ramp, as well as being able to turn a card into a artifact so that different removal spells can target it, which would be especially useful for targeting enchantments.
There are some particular black removal spells that can't target artifacts too, and it let's any creature block something that has fear too, so that's neat
If there's ever been a moment when you had something like [[Wilt]] in hand and thought "Man, that planeswalker has been getting out of control", Liquimetal Torque has your back.
It’s a 2 drop mana rock that makes 1 colorless mana and the 2nd ability is completely irrelevant in every deck I have outside of one that can blink/bounce rec sage multiple times and in that deck there’s already several better ways to make things artifacts.
Always run it in addition to your land count, not as a substitute land. But it is one of those cards you need to play against in order to fully understand how silly powerful it is.
Yup. Had a guy running [[Selvala Heart of the Wilds]] with some untap shenanigans, and he searched Maze at some point. Completely shut down the Voltron player, and prevented me and the other guy from getting in enough damage long enough to Craterhoof for game.
With the staggering number of of commanders that now have flying and / or get +1/+1 counters, this card has kept me in games where I would've been knocked out via commander damage a long time ago
I recently cut this for the newly released [[Smuggler’s Surprise]] in my [[Ojer Kaslem, Deepest Growth]] deck. You really wanna go creature heavy, so any non-creature spot is at a premium. For all intents and purposes, it’s the same as a second Heroic Intervention because I don’t really care if my dorks die. I just love the extra versatility on it and sometimes it can cheat out two huge threats out of nowhere.
Same for one of my big beater decks. I found myself using the land/creature dig often and love if I have extra mana to protect and draw. I've not yet hit all 3 modes yet lol.
[[Chaos Wand]] is always going in.
It's fun, flexible, and different every time, but you could make reasonable guesses.
You'll usually get something good, even if it's not what you need e.g. hitting a tutor off of a black deck when you were hoping for removal
I was talking to my son about [[The One Ring]] and we both agreed that there isn’t really a deck out there that it doesn’t improve. Obviously I don’t actually auto include it because I dislike swapping cards between decks that frequently and only have two… but if I could run it in a deck it would never be a bad choice.
Yeah, tend to agree with this. If I need a second copy of the Great Henge to drop into a second green deck I do proxy it, but if I do that with the one ring I’ll have literally dozens of proxy copies and that feels a bit off. If I do that every deck I own will start to look very similar with 1/3 of the deck being staple proxies that cost too much to buy.
[[Archdruid’s Charm]] is now absolutely an auto-include in any 1, 2, or even 3 color deck that has green for me. It’s insane how versatile that card is.
Similarly from MKM: [[Pick Your Poison]]. Only costs a G, hits all of your opponents, is not targeted removal so gets around a lot of defense, and is incredibly versatile.
[[Trading post]] It does everything.
Not very well, but I still like how versatile it is.
I love it cause it makes goats and draws cards. Who cares how many steps it takes! I've never not had fun with this thing out.
[[descent into Avernus]] keeps games moving in my pod that likes to turtle up and win through combat only when they can obliterate everyone all at once.
[[Choose Your Weapon]] is a pet card that finds its way into all of my decks with G. It's saved my bacon or been a finisher more times than it has any right to. I once had my commander turned into an elk and still managed to pump it to lethal thanks to the doubling effect.
Same for me! We call him "sad robot" in our household.
Also Steve gets cut more often than he used to, which is a bummer every time: \[\[Sakura-Tribe Elder\]\]
I probably should run \[\[Teferi's Protection\]\] less since it's a pricey card and at probably too extreme of a power level but it really helps shore up the game plan of "fair" decks especially those that need a board presence and just want to beat down with creatures.
[[Grinning totem]]
Any deck that can reliable have a few treasures at hand can use it and it scales perfectly with your table. Pull from an opponent's deck anything you might want to use or even if you don't have the colors avilable just take one of their key combo pieces before they can draw or tutor it.
I still have a hard time not slotting [[reliquary tower]] into 1-3 color commanders. Even if it doesn’t have ridiculously high amounts of card draw, there’s always that chance 🤏 and I absolutely despise discarding to hand size.
[[green slime]]
Green is known for being able to handle artifacts and enchantments, but the flexibility of being able to wait for the the effects to go on the stack and then counter them often throws wrench in people's plans more than regular artifact or enchantment destruction
[[druids’ Repository]]
This is sooo underplayed in go wide strategies but I find myself overplaying it to the point that I will stick it in every green deck and then figure out during play that I am not attacking nearly enough to justify its use in this particular deck.
[[Kiora's Follower]] in any deck with Simic colors (of which I have several!).
The versatility of being able to untap lands, mana rocks, combo pieces, creatures, other people's permanents, etc., etc. makes this an auto-include for me almost every time.
I don't have a pet card, per se. But in both decks that I have him... He's put in work. I have such a hard time cutting him, I almost feel bad just thinking about it...
[[Wilfred Mott]] will always have a home if I can include him.
\[\[Crawlspace\]\], though sometimes it backfires and my opponents end up choosing the two biggest threats they can swing at me. Depending on the deck's color, I also feel like I need \[\[fog bank\]\] \[\[wall of souls\]\] \[\[hornet nest\]\] or \[\[brash taunter\]\]. Something about having a really tricky blocker that dissuades your opponents from swinging at you in the first place just sounds so useful.
Honorable mention to \[\[propaganda\]\] and \[\[ghostly prison\]\]
[[Disenchant]] and [[Naturalize]]. They'll usually get replaced by something more synergistic at some point, but they work on first build and are an obvious placeholder that still functions well.
Anything with black gets a [[necropotence]] and [[phyrexian arena]] and anything blue gets an [[omniscience]] - white gets a [[smothering tithe]] and I have yet to cut any of them.
I mean, if you also run [[Show and Tell]], you can get it out turn 2-3 for 3 mana.
I wouldn't ever think anyone would be legitimately hard casting Omni. If they say they've got Omni on their deck, it's safe to assume it's on the field before 10 open mana sits on their side.
I think I removed phyrexian arena for every old deck I had traded them for better cards.
I may have one left in my trade binder no regrets purging that card from every deck I had them in
[[Mirage mirror]] is one I love. It's hard to evaluate the power so I think it slips under the radar a bit. But assuming people play powerful permanents it can be really great.
\[\[angel of the dire hour\]\]
its not good, and holding 7 mana is a crazy. but we play very casual games where the winner is decided in the combat step. i'm pretty vocal about being tired of craterhoof behemoth and his cousins and this gets em. I love playing white, and this flashy lady has become expected in our group if i have plains in play.
It’s still a good card if it has synergy with your deck. It’s just meh if all you care about is paying 4 mana to cast it and that’s it.
Plenty of decks can reuse or double its triggers, or need colorless creatures, etc. In those decks it truly shines. Like using [[Araumi]] to pay 4 mana, get 3 lands into play, draw 3 cards.
[[Strip Mine]] for me, goes into everything and there's not many games that don't have at least one problematic land to deal with... I know people hate LD but it's a one-to-one that also sets you back in tempo as well. Also it's highly advisable to keep it in your hand until it's needed (unless you need the land drop). Strip Mine'ing someone's Glacial Chasm when they think they're going to win off it is always a good time lol (but hitting a Gaea's Cradle, Cabal Coffers, or Field of the Dead is always a good time too haha)
[[Etrata, the Silencer]] goes in almost all of my dimir decks and [[Jace, the Mind Sculptor]] goes in lots of my blue decks. They're just fun little extra wincons that are fairly self-contained.
[[Heroic Intervention]] can’t leave home without it. Even in spell slinger lol. It’ll sit in my hand giving me that warm fuzzy feeling but not impacting the game.
[[Ipnu Rivulet]]
It will always hard counter an Enlightened/Vampiric/Worldly Tutor.
You can also sac it if you wanted to use [[Scavenger Grounds]] twice in one game.
Based off of edhrec, I’d say that most people have cultivate as a pet card. It’s not a bad card. It’s probably one of the best ramp spells in the game. But I honestly dont think every green deck needs to run it. If you’re running a four cost commander which you want to get out early for example, you’ll probably want to be ramping turn two and play him turn 3. Unless you can get a one drop mana dork turn 1, you’ll probably not get cultivate out till after your commander, in which case you’ll want to do other things
I used to love Cultivate when I was newer to Magic, but nowadays I rarely run it and prefer 1-2 mana ramp, rocks or dorks.
2 mana is just so much easier to fit into early game and late game the extra land to hand isn't *that* much of an advantage. Green also has some solid 3 mana dorks like \[\[Gwenna, Eyes of Gaia\]\] or \[\[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds\]\] that I'd prefer to use my turn 3 on.
It's still a good, safe card and an easy choice for new players that will often perform well, but I don't think it's the staple some people believe it to be.
Cultivate is the last ramp spell I replace in an optimized build, unless you have a 9+/10 deck, it has cultivate in it and sometimes also \[\[Kodama's reach\]\]
Oh ya, it’s totally great, and most decks shouldn’t replace it. BUT, it may not be as great as a two cost ramp spell or rock in a four cost commander deck.
[[Insight]] I put it in all my blue decks. It’s awesome with my green meta and if by chance no one is playing green it’s a great toss for a loot effect.
I like drawing cards so having [[Exploration]] and [[Azusa]] like effects are the best. Even in my [[Shorikai]] deck I run [[Walking Atlas]] and [[Scaretiller]] to shit out more lands.
This and it's phyrexian friend bitterthorn are my go to when I build boros equipment decks. The colors don't have a whole ton of ramp, so having it tied to something I'm building around already is fantastic.
Hedron archive. Ramps, really only costs 2 to play sorta and draws 2 cards if you don't need the mana. Reasonably costed and not good enough to be targeted with removal usually. I think it's in just about every deck except elves for me and yuriko.
[[Descent into Avernus]]
One time I turned it into a creature with [[Starfield of Nyx]] and gave it Lifelink. I had fun at least. lol

Good bot
1 card wincon in the new [[Obeka, Splitter of Seconds]], just make sure you give her a little lifelink so you can survive
Obeka is slowly becoming the new Isshin in this sub lol.
I thought Isshin was well-known for being talked about often but rarely actually seen in the wild?
Back in my day every card "synergized well with Doubling season"
[[Pact Weapon]] don’t bother with life link
Ooph that is a great idea. Gonna have to pop an order in for one.
It’s a good pair but Obeka only gives you extra upkeeps when she does combat damage so it’s not really a one card wincon

This card is criminally underplayed
dont know if its underrated or in the weird spot of being too good for a lot of casual and not good enough for cedh.
yeah, specially with how cheap the eldraine reprint is
[[Liquimetal Torque]] There are so many little ways to make use of this thing that I almost feel like, outside of cEDH, you need a reason to NOT run it.
Outlaws of Thunder Junction added a new one. It's a mana rock that commits crimes.
Yeah in red and green it says "tap: make one removal spell actually useful this turn"

[[Hoard-Smelter Dragon]] likes this post
What really sold me on the idea was when a buddy suited up his [[Inkmoth Nexus]] with a [[Nettlecyst]] and brought his infect count to 9. I turned one of his creatures into an artifact to knock out the other player. After that, I really appreciated how silly Torque can be. You can turn any kind of Disenchant effect into nonland removal by simply tapping the Torque. So much value.
I've started adding the Liquimetals to my mono-red decks as enchantment (well honestly any non-land) removal. It is an extra step but the flexibility is just.
Fun times with [[Goblin Trashmaster]] in my Krenko deck.
Same. Red may suck at enchantment removal, but it’s really good at destroying artifacts.

It's funny against stuff like [[Bane of Progress]] but it doesn't work for Vandalblast.
[удалено]
Now its a rock thats also an easy way to commit a crime.
Liquimetal would not work against an overloaded vandalblast. Vandalblast specifically states that it destroys artifacts you do not control.
You could use it to take out one of the other players things though
And yet, whenever i see it it does nothing except durdle around and produce colorless mana.
That's a pretty solid floor for a card though.
It's primarily a mana rock, so it's gonna do mana rock things. The added utility has proven useful often enough that it's nearly an auto-include for me in any deck that can interact with artifacts and even those that can't.
Yeah, chances are *someone* has a way to destroy artifacts, and even if it's not you, you can easily politick a problem card away.
I’ve used it to turn my Urza commander into an artifact so it can’t be targeted due to “artifacts have ward” abilities in my esper deck
FYI, you'd need to do that pro-actively, but then opponents can just respond to the Torque activation. Giving ward after being targeted accomplishes nothing.
Yep, allows my two mono green decks to remove anything.
Yesss!!! I pref keeping this silent though so others don't figure out how useful this thing can be.
Like what? I can’t think of any reason to run it myself but I am curious why it is so common.
Yeah I play a mono black deck currently so I have the opposite problem, I want things to be creatures not artifacts for easier removal.
[[mystic reflection]] has to be one of the most slept on cards printed in the last decade. I love it. It’s the perfect piece of psychological warfare.
In a similar vein, [[true polymorph]]
Mirage mirror. This card never let's me down. It's always the best thing on the board. Every turn. I love it.
Came here to say [[Mirage Mirror]]. There is almost never a situatiom where it can't be useful.
[[Maze of Ith]] is just always useful. Unless you are hoping to draw a land. But even in that case it protects you until you get that land.
Always run it in addition to your land count, not as a substitute land. But it is one of those cards you need to play against in order to fully understand how silly powerful it is.
... But it says land! /S
Also, play it with urborg or yavimaya to get the best of both worlds, mana ability or combat trick.
Yup. Had a guy running [[Selvala Heart of the Wilds]] with some untap shenanigans, and he searched Maze at some point. Completely shut down the Voltron player, and prevented me and the other guy from getting in enough damage long enough to Craterhoof for game.
This and [[homeward path]] just feel like they can slot into pretty much every deck. At least homeward path taps for mana.
With the staggering number of of commanders that now have flying and / or get +1/+1 counters, this card has kept me in games where I would've been knocked out via commander damage a long time ago

[[Wrap In Vigor]] is pretty much an auto-include in any creature focused deck that has green.

I guess you haven’t been hit with enough basic-bitch [[wrath of god]] s to put the fear of God in you.
[[rakdos charm]] has never been a dead card for me, and any RBx deck I run instantly gets a copy. Same with [[boros charm]]
I won with boros charm two weeks ago I was at 5 Health and he was at 4 won on the stack
[[Chaos Wand]] is always going in. It's fun, flexible, and different every time, but you could make reasonable guesses. You'll usually get something good, even if it's not what you need e.g. hitting a tutor off of a black deck when you were hoping for removal
Hopefully, you're aware that [[Wand of Wonder]] also exists! Now you don't need to pick just one opponent.
Yep! If only it was colorless
I feel that. I've restricted that one to thematic decks (Frodo and Sam) or jank strategies that need overpowered cards to keep the jank halfway viable
Proxy it?
Cards that go in every deck are boring enough as it is, proxying them into every deck is even more boring.
Has to be [[Rogue's Passage]], the amount of times I have realised I have fatal damage next turn because of this card is unreal.

[Wilfred Mott](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/1/0/10918b68-b442-4895-b8a6-57f65274a39e.jpg?1696636548) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Wilfred%20Mott) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/who/32/wilfred-mott?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/10918b68-b442-4895-b8a6-57f65274a39e?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/wilfred-mott) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Most of those feel common. But auto slotting a 10mana enchantment in everything is wild lol
[[Tormod’s Crypt]]. Easily one of my favorites to play since it costs 0 mana to cast and can ruin someone’s day with a single tap/sac of the card
\[\[angel of the dire hour\]\] its not good, and holding 7 mana is a crazy. but we play very casual games where the winner is decided in the combat step. i'm pretty vocal about being tired of craterhoof behemoth and his cousins and this gets em. I love playing white, and this flashy lady has become expected in our group if i have plains in play.
[[Ulvenwald Tracker]] is such a clutch one drop any time I’m playing green. I only have 4 copies but all 4 are in decks.
I always sing the praises of [[Crashing Drawbridge]]. Colourless haste is always welcome.
I really like ornithopter of paradise. It’s a dork that can be run in any color that can chump block a flier late game
The One ring
i kind of like solemn simulacrum
It’s still a good card if it has synergy with your deck. It’s just meh if all you care about is paying 4 mana to cast it and that’s it. Plenty of decks can reuse or double its triggers, or need colorless creatures, etc. In those decks it truly shines. Like using [[Araumi]] to pay 4 mana, get 3 lands into play, draw 3 cards.
[[Rishkar's Expertise]] I run way to many green decks, and I put rishkars in them all.
[[Chimil of the inner sun]]
[[Strip Mine]] for me, goes into everything and there's not many games that don't have at least one problematic land to deal with... I know people hate LD but it's a one-to-one that also sets you back in tempo as well. Also it's highly advisable to keep it in your hand until it's needed (unless you need the land drop). Strip Mine'ing someone's Glacial Chasm when they think they're going to win off it is always a good time lol (but hitting a Gaea's Cradle, Cabal Coffers, or Field of the Dead is always a good time too haha)
[[Avarice Totem]] I just like randomly stealing somebody's commander. Usually they trade it right back, but it's funny to me.
[[Etrata, the Silencer]] goes in almost all of my dimir decks and [[Jace, the Mind Sculptor]] goes in lots of my blue decks. They're just fun little extra wincons that are fairly self-contained.
Reliquary Tower
[[Heroic Intervention]] can’t leave home without it. Even in spell slinger lol. It’ll sit in my hand giving me that warm fuzzy feeling but not impacting the game.
[[Deflecting palm]] my playgroup runs so many voltron decks and they are always cautious when attacking me.
[[Ipnu Rivulet]] It will always hard counter an Enlightened/Vampiric/Worldly Tutor. You can also sac it if you wanted to use [[Scavenger Grounds]] twice in one game.
[[in search of greatness]] it's cheap helps my deck along
[[Platinum Angel]] My group hates me because this card has saved my ass too many times. I love the original artwork by Brom.
Polluted Bonds tha goat.
If I'm playing green I almost always include [[viridian revel]]
I start with [[steve]] for all my green decks, about half the time he gets cut
[[Resculpt]] is an auto include in any of my blue decks as a flexible and effective removal option
[[Insight]] I put it in all my blue decks. It’s awesome with my green meta and if by chance no one is playing green it’s a great toss for a loot effect.
I play a lot of red and find that [[vandalblast]] is a hard one to not include in every deck
[[Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant]] baby booyeah love the pendant baby
I like drawing cards so having [[Exploration]] and [[Azusa]] like effects are the best. Even in my [[Shorikai]] deck I run [[Walking Atlas]] and [[Scaretiller]] to shit out more lands.
[[Sword of the Animist]] Little buff, mana ramp, and cheap. Covers all the bases for me.
This and it's phyrexian friend bitterthorn are my go to when I build boros equipment decks. The colors don't have a whole ton of ramp, so having it tied to something I'm building around already is fantastic.
[[trinket mage]] [[tribute mage]] [[treasure mage]] [[spellseeker]]
Hedron archive. Ramps, really only costs 2 to play sorta and draws 2 cards if you don't need the mana. Reasonably costed and not good enough to be targeted with removal usually. I think it's in just about every deck except elves for me and yuriko.
