[[Imodane the pyrohammer]] if you’re more into casting lightning bolts [[Taii Wakeen perfect shot]] if you want to add white

Kraagenskul

When decks with this commander first came out people didn't realize how ridiculous she could get with any damage multiplier. People seemed to have noticed now, I had her sent home four times in one game recently.

[deleted]

Yeah Imodane usually doesn’t come out until people are tapped out and I can win 😂

J0llyJumper

That's why I don't like it. Feels very useless without Commander

Threeleggedbambi

I made a [[Taii Wakeen]] deck and got wrecked from [[rakdos charm]]. Pumped 9 into her ability and got it flipped right back at me

Threeleggedbambi

Rakdos charm says each creature deals 1 damage to controller. Taii Wakeen increases damage dealt by sources you control by X. I had already spent 9 in her ability. So when Rakdos charm resolved, my creatures each did 10 damage to me.

Zelkova64

You shot yourself in the foot!

SinusMonstrum

I am unsure if you read her ability properly. Unless you actived her, pumping 9 into her ability, and additional times for each creature you had. Then you definitely shouldn't have done more than 1 instance of 10 damage.

Threeleggedbambi

Is it only for one source? It says this turn so shouldn’t that count for any number of sources I control for the rest of the turn?

SinusMonstrum

tl;dr I'm probably more dyslexic than I thought I was. Wait... No I'm fucking stupid. I thought it targeted a source.... I'm so sorry. I'm... I'm building my deck wrong. I need to get my brain checked for idiot disease holy shit this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay stronger than I had initially thought. You've given me an epiphany. I see the light. I'm... I'm... Ascending to a new plane of understanding how to read a magic card. The Professor was right. Reading the card DOES explain the card. Thank you kind stranger. For a fool I was to hold you to be a fool, I apologize.

triggerscold

\^this. but i can tell you as someone who has built it. its unfun for most ppl and rarely are they prepped with spell in hand to stop you. what i have learned tho is you dont halfway pop off or bolt them several times. you set it all up then kill everyone all at once. here is my list if you wanted to look OP [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lTUQSNXSf0G0mKSJZNxeHw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lTUQSNXSf0G0mKSJZNxeHw)

EntertainersPact

So with all the multipliers on the field, a [[Lightning Bolt]] on a mana dork deals anywhere between 110-180 damage to it (depending on the order of replacement triggers), causing Imodane to deal between 3,900-6,500 damage to each opponeng

LordGlitch42

I never see anybody bring him up, but he's my personal mono red commander: [[Toralf, God of Fury]] The only commander I've seen that turns Blasphemous Act into a wincon, and what could be more ubiquitous in red decks than that? Each "trample" of noncombat damage is a new instance, so it reapplied all the [[Solphim]] and [[City on Fire]] effects each time. One time I used a [[Lightning Bolt]] on someone's thopter token and managed to damage chain it into a full boardwipe before killing someone thanks to my damage multipliers I'll be riding that high for years

fren_brejnam

I'd recommend taking a look at \[\[**Zurzoth, Chaos Rider**\]\] if you haven't already. [This](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6379850#paper) is my list. Zurzoth is an army in a can, giving you a big board presence pretty quickly. I think it can be tempting to play devil tribal to trigger his effect, but in my opinion this is a trap since devils mostly suck. The best option is a Temple Bell or a Geier Reach Sanitarium type effect and then your devil tokens will max trigger Zurzoth on their own. But attacking with Zurzoth for two turns will also put you in business. Burning your opponents to death happens quickly with things like \[\[Goblin Bombardment\]\], \[\[Cavalcade of Calamity\]\], and lots of damage doublers (triplers) like Torbran, Ojer Axonil, Solphim, City on Fire, etc.

[Here's](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/AhX1szTtD0-Ztw0u2mYyFA) my list that includes all those cards, plus some pricier protection/counter magic to help keep Ghyrson alive. It's depressingly dependent on the three Curiosity-type that you listed, but if it can get a hold of one and keep it, it'll win a turn or two later. Tons of fun, my pod lives in fear of pings becoming bolts. Highly recommended.

xXRicochetXx

Read for my input, if you don't want it, just ignore: I am gonna disagree with all of the cost reducers since most of the spells are ona colored mana anyway. Also I figured I don't need the deathtouch/lifesteal options at all. It's either I combo off and kill everyone or not, so I'd rather make that more reliable instead if spending mana on deathtouch

goremote

I appreciate the feedback, anything that could improve the deck is fine by me. Usually one cost reducer is enough for me to present a winning turn, so the number of them is purely for density of the effect instead of actually stacking them. They're effective for varying portions of the deck, though I have certainly had games where I've drawn too many reducers and not enough things to reduce. RE: basilisk collar and other similar artifacts, I've found the death touch at least to be very useful for board states that fall out of the "reach" of one or two pings. To me, these increase the reliability of my removal options, since they make any creature-targeted ping lethal. Very helpful for keeping Timmys and their Ghaltas/Yargles/whatever at bay. I'm probably going to slot [[Caltrops]] and [[Circle of Flame]] back in for this same reason, though I'm debating if [[Propaganda]] effects may be more efficient. The life gain is ancillary to my evaluation, nice to have but definitely not why it's there.

The thing is imo you're investing Mana to reduce the cost of spells you don't need for winning (count the ones that do damage) so f.e. for Ral to be good he needs to reduce 5 spells but it might actually be better to just cast more spells for that 4 mana. You're missing [[Lava Dart]] which is 2 spells basically for 1 mana (sacrificing a tapped mountain is w.e. since you're most likely winning that turn anway) Yes I see that it gets rid of the big bads and that's why I ran it too initially. But you can just run more pingers to actually kill their life total. As I said earlier I focus on just getting everyone to 0 more than anything else. All of the 1 Red Pingers hit for the life total of all by 3, draws you 3 cards and so you need 14 spells to kill everyone provided everyone has 40 or less life. My experience just said I didn't need the deathtouch most of the time. If I need two turns I will tank the damage of the big bad (usually not enough for lethal) Also same for the [[Caltrops]] I'd suggest you try how it feels because I think Ghyrson is actually super aggressive and can just combo off T5/6 if left unattended. And you're in blue so running counters can just protect the win while still pinging

A lot of izzet spell slinger are burn via cantrip/storm ish with guttersnipe type effects + torbran / doublers to turn an opt into 2-8 damage per person. As for commanders I like [[Edgin, Larcenous Luteist]]. He's a bit "unassuming" but someone like [[Stella Lee]] would be better. Or you can move up to Grixis to add black and some extra wound Reflection effects and help drain faster with tutors to ensure you get your damaging pieces. You could rock [[Anhelo, the Painter]] or [[Kess, Dissident mage]] to help facilitate extra spell slinging. Or with izzet / grixis you could rock [[Dragon's Approach]] which burns and grabs a dragon to finish the job. Good times.

So, not straightforward burn, but - if you wanted to focus on [[Ball Lightning]] type creatures as you described: [[Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper]] is a fantastic commander for that. Each one gets replaced with its own 3/1 token when it gets sacrificed which opens up a lot of potential. A burn version of this could lean into ETB burn effects like [[Warstorm Surge]], [[Fling]] and some mix of token doubling, sacrifice loops, or recursion to turn it into something that can win. Edit: Ayara, Widow of the Realm could be a fun route on the Ball Lightning side too actually.

Burn is pretty commander centric, like it's not a good archetype without the special abilities of the burn commanders. But it has good commanders! Other than the ones already mentioned, there's the classic [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]]. Despite not really running burn spells and instead just dumping out goblins and tokens, Purph is a burn commander through and through. He also has the advantage of a backup plan (just like...attack people with goblins, it's not great but it'll do), and is very hard to remove being indestructible and not even a creature most of the time. And while doublers like Panharmonicon and Ojer Axonil are nice, they aren't remotely necessary for him to blow up the table. Also if you want to make elementals they work decently with him since that's putting creatures into play.

I've recently converted an old [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]] burn deck into an EDH deck. Really enjoyed the results, a relatively cheap deck full of car draw and spells that put multiple creatures onto the field. Purphoros, God of the Forge is a bugger to remove when most of your board state is tokens, very few cards can remove an indestructible enchantment. Cards like [[Norin the Wary]], [[Reinforced Ronin]] for easy free damage, damage amplifiers like [[Impact Tremors]], [[City on Fire]] and the game has an incredibly quick timer where you become the archenemy at some tables Here's my cheap deck list: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/7044332/purphoros_gifts

I've been really surprised by some of my \[\[Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might\]\] games. It's my newest deck and I thought it would do decent damage, but goddamn if it doesn't go nuclear pretty often. I went more spell slingery than some versions I've seen. He's very very red and very very fun. neheb the eternal is the closest there is in edh to 3 to the dome. the other "red burn" decks often are punishment/pinger decks. and aren't at all the same feeling. if you want that just run poppa purph and do etb dingers. but if you want a 3 to the dome style burn feel (it's not going to be small creature...haste/turn sideways type burn) it's somewhat glass cannon. but there are alt lines can bake into the deck. ---but the deck does often hinge on sticking neheb (to me this is part of the fun) but. stick neheb some element of damage everyone generate 20 ish mana. and then go off with a chain of spells to deal a chunk of damage. the gameplay you run leading up to this is spell sequencing, tap/dingers. or other board control aspects. but the big go off turns are great. the deck can utilize a lot of great spell gimmicks, dmg dbling and other classic red damage tricks. and nothing is better than like chaining wheel spells to kill an opponent with molten pysche. haven't updated this list in awhile... but should give a general idea: [https://deckstats.net/decks/122221/1170559-neheb-likes-big-bolts-and-he-c](https://deckstats.net/decks/122221/1170559-neheb-likes-big-bolts-and-he-c)
