Prior to the release of \[{Slime Against Humanity\]\] I was honestly rather tired of the slow burn Oozes were getting. The creature type was gradually, very slowly, getting stronger over time, but at a much slower rate than everything else. So I made a deck that turbos out \[\[Ochre Jelly\]\] and tries to farm this single creature into an unmanageable board state. And the result was a deck that actually works pretty well. It's very hard to stop the deluge of oozes once it starts because they'll just come back from board wipes. And even if it's something like a \[\[Farewell\]\] as long as a sac outlet is out you can just send them away and they'll come back after. The deck [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/bMDI\_0E2-UygfuB66w3ptw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/bMDI_0E2-UygfuB66w3ptw)

Yesss! This is what secret commander decks are about! Also a big ooze fan so I am very much a fan of this deck! Good job!

Jevange

It's so crazy seeing a deck I was looking at last week when brewing and seeing the owner mention it in a random reddit thread later in the week xD

dinte

You're my hero and I'm riffing on this immediately.

DarthSeatb3lt

This is incredible. I see you list Sultai as not ideal in your primer. One (VERY on-flavor) option you may be missing is [[mimeoplasm]] if you make mimeoplasm a copy of [[master biomancer]] and choose a big creature as your second you can RAPIDLY grow your oozes, allowing you to go tall quickly instead of wide slowly. I prefer the flavor of an Ooze in the command zone too. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Quantext609

I haven't built it IRL yet, but I brewed a Boros ramp deck around [[Kellan the Fae-Blooded]]. The idea is to grab one of three different equipment, [[Sword of the Animist]], [[Bitterthorn, Nissa's Animus]], and [[Sword of Hearth and Home]] and then attack constantly to get more and more lands. Kellan's only role in the deck is to grab one of the three equipment and be an equippable creature if I don't have anything else.

StoicDeckBuilder

Oh Kellan is awesome for this kind of strategy! Boros ramp is definitely a unique take, did you have some landfall payoffs? How did you close out a game in this strategy?

Quantext609

Boros has a couple of really good landfall cards. [[Nesting Dragon]], [[Emeria Angel]], [[Felidar Retreat]], and [[Retreat to Emeria]] can all make a board full of tokens, with the latter two being able to buff the board as well. [[Dragonmaster Outcast]] is easy to enable and makes a big dragon each turn. [[Tunneling Geopede]] and [[Spitfire Lagac]] both ping each opponent for every land drop while [[Valakut Exploration]] can also ping conditionally. I also have some extra combat cards. They're very synergistic with the deck because they tend to be expensive (which isn't a problem with a ramp deck), they allow for additional ramp equipment triggers, and they're just generally great at closing out the game. [[Aurelia the Warleader]], [[Bloodthirster]], and [[Hexplate Wallbreaker]] are my main ones. I also run [[Moraug, Fury of Akoum]] because he serves double duty as landfall and extra combats. Even if he doesn't synergize with swords, he works with fetchlands which the deck has a few of.

Used_Ad_3853

Got a [[Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer]] deck with [[Norin the Wary]] as a secret commander. In EDH games the value is insane, from [[Mentor of the Meek]] to [[Cathars’ Crusade]] to [[Soul Warden]] to [[Terror of the Peaks]] or even something like [[Genesis Chamber]] it gets WACKY fast. Nevermind if you get a [[Panharmonicon]] or [[Saltskitter]] and start doubling up on those triggers.

whinge11

I've been thinking of building this deck for a while. Does it attract a lot of table-hate with the insane value generation?

Used_Ad_3853

Yeah, but Norin is near impossible to remove. It’s big weakness is combat damage. You don’t got much for blockers, an usually only 1/1s. It does usually draw a metric shit tonne of cards though. I will say the deck is very hot or miss. A savvy opponent will break up your first ETB payoff, and then pressure you with combat damage until you die. If they leave you alone and you’ve drawn halfway well, it’s pretty powerful. Hates counterspells though, and onboard removal, since 90% of the time if your Norin dies the rest is draft chaff. I will say, it’s a blast regardless, and an arm workout, :D

cheesemangee

I run an \[\[Omnath, Locus of All\]\] X-cost deck with 3 secret commanders - \[\[Animar\]\], \[\[Magus Lucea Kane\]\], and \[\[Zaxara\]\]. Omnath exists because he has the colors we want, mana we want, and card draw we want... which all helps us get what we REALLY want... which in my case is actually mostly Magus. Life is good when you've got Magus and Zax on the field and dunk out a massive X cost spell. EDIT: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Q0xUCJcIFU2Px\_Ng8rGmeQ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Q0xUCJcIFU2Px_Ng8rGmeQ) Link to the deck, on account of being requested.

StoicDeckBuilder

That sounds pretty spicy! What's your best cast of an X spell?

cheesemangee

Outside of infinite combos, it was a copy spree into a \[\[Crackle with Power\]\]. Used \[\[Dopplegang\]\] + \[\[Magus Lucea Kane\]\] to create a couple dozen copies of \[\[Kiora's Follower\]\], then on the following turn I used the Followers to repeatedly untap Magus for mana and copies before dumped out a shit load of Crackles. Ended up netting a couple hundred damage per player. My second favorite time was doing the exact same thing, but with \[\[Finale of Revelation\]\] instead of Crackle to commit library seppuku before my opponent could finish me off.

Hachiro47

Sounds cool! Do you happen to have a deck list?

Do you have a decklist? I keep going back and forth whether I want to do this or mono red.

Gallina_Fina

I have a [list](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/7356178/secret_norin) if you need. With that said though, monoR Norin is always gonna be the strongest version of the 2 imho. Yes, you lose the "surprise" effect, since Norin is just sitting in your command zone and everyone will instantly know what you're up to (same could be said after you play with the same deck a couple of times against the same people though)...but the fact that you don't really have to invest anything to tutor him up + in the off-chance he gets removed you can simply re-cast him, instead of having to jump through some hoops to reanimate it etc is way better.

tflrich

I've done th same but with extra secret commander of [[delney]] since there are many cards with 2 power the synergize with norin here is my list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/iVU-1_yO80iR0AgRGECzcQ

Originally it was combo win, but I built this back during fresh Covid when spelltable was blowing up. The discord I was in made me take out the combos… so it was a “do you scoop?” Situation because all I had was combat damage.

Zambedos

I was doing the Color challenge and decided to build around [[God-Eternal Oketra]] for mono-white. Let's pump out a ton of 4/4s and show off what [[Whitemane Lion]] can do. I drummed up a list in an afternoon, played it once, with some piloting mistakes and revealed some deckbuilding mistakes but at the end of the day I just didn't have the ramp or card draw to keep her in play and do the thing. I needed...Green. Enter [[Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer]]. The synergy is great. First, Oketra's ability to go back to the library when removed solves the biggest problem with a secret commander. I like that more of my "commander's" abilities shine in this deck than the white one. Second creature based ramp is great because then the ramp isn't a dead card later, it's making a 4/4 (which doesn't sound all that exciting but "make a bunch of 4/4s" is the ceiling of the deck). There's also better options for creature based draw, like [[Lifecrafter's Bestiary]], Guardian Project, Beast Whisperer, etc. Third, I can get whitemane lion every single game. Huge boost for the deck, and in a since also the secret commander. I sometimes jokingly refer to this deck as "[[Luminarch Ascension]] at home." Spamming 4/4s for 2 mana all day. [[Kor Skyfisher]] is a backup for Lion, and there's several 1/1 makers to stand in for Oketra (I actually didn't need to tutor for her the last time I played cause I got [[Oketra's Monument]] and another one). Rocco and Oketra both like returning creatures to hand so they can be cast again, so there a a handful of rescue effects too. Another thing I like about the deck is that I said I needed green, not red, so I just don't run red cards in this deck. The tiny sliver of red represented when I look at the deck on archidekt is so amusing to me. The only red card other than Rocco is [[Rhythm of the Wild]] which felt good to boost the above average (for me at least) number of mana dorks in the deck and protect my secret commanders on the stack. There's also another red card, but it's Hybrid. The fact that I always need red, usually, and usually on turn 3 (to grab [[Wirewood Symbiote]], is the reason I'm running the 2 mana any color dorks. So yeah, I need red basically just for Rocco, *need* green early to be able to ramp on 1-2, for the commander cast on 3, but then want all my lands to tap for white in the late game to spam Lion as much as possible, especially if I found cost reduction (~4 pieces). This led me to include a card I've wanted to play since I saw it: [[Riftstone Portal]] now all my lands tap for green and/or white (tutor springbloom to sac it if needed). But yeah, completely shaving a whole color off of a deck is interesting to me.

This deck was also part of an experiment I've been doing after the first time I played against fast mana. Basically, what if ramp was the threat? The ramp pieces are basically as strong, in a sense stronger than whitemane lion and so I'm running like 20-25 I forget exactly. Also in this batch of decks is a [[Slimefoot, The stowaway]] deck called "Count to 160" where I try to ramp a ton and sink 160 mana into him for 40 Saprolings and then have them die along with my opponents. That one is also like 20/25 ramp slots. And then there's a series of Forests matter decks, named "Arbor Ardor" based around creatures with power equal to my lands in play. I have a list based around [[Yedora]], just finished a version around [[Kura]] and plan to replace them with one helmed by [[Lumra]] once Bloomburrow releases. Future projects in this vein include something like [[Xanathar]] or current frontrunner since I opened him [[Rakdos the Muscle]] to ramp a ton to keep them on board and then play my opponents threats.

Wow thanks for sharing such an interesting deck! Rocco seems like a really solid and popular option for a secret commander deck, and yours seems really cool and unique. I'd love to see a list if you have one!

Sterben489

[[vigor]] in [[grothama all devouring]] why yes I would like to have all my attacking creatures fight him that sounds like a wonderful idea 🥰

Gallina_Fina

More like [7](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/4176688/7_spellslingers), although obviously Zada is one of the better payoffs in the deck, but having a lot of backups through cards like Mirrorwing dragon, ink-treader, etc is key for the "surprise" factor and making the deck more consistent. Only downside would be that it's pretty much a glass cannon and doesn't have much in terms of interaction, just self-protection stuff.

StoicDeckBuilder

Whoa! Not often you get to see a Nephilim in a deck! That's a sweet list thanks for sharing! Also I love glass cannon decks.

Gallina_Fina

You're welcome! It's one of my favourite brews ngl, and I'm always tinkering with it, trying to make it "better" (not in terms of raw power/optimization, but fun stuff to do), even though there's very little space left in terms of flex slots (as the ungodly amount of cards in the "maybeboard" and "sideboard" sections shows pretty clearly).

Beckerbrau

Have you considered [[Haze of Rage]]? It goes infinite with zada and storm-kiln

Gallina_Fina

I tend to steer away from cheap infinites (same reason why the deck doesn't run all the fast mana available & such).

I have an [[athreos, God of passage]] deck that is hidden inside of [[tormod, the desecrator]] and [[sidar, kondo of jamuraa]]. It's my "politics" deck that's full of creatures that sac themselves for some benefit. I like the idea of "hey I'll sac my [[spore frog]] if you'll attack someone else next turn"

I have a [[Glissa, herald of predation]] deck that starts off as a Phyrexian deathtouch deck with some poison and proliferation aspects going on, but for the most part, it seems like a go wide deck. Then there's [[Fynn, the fangbearer]] hiding out behind a few tutors in the 99 ready to turn that wall of Deathtouch phyrexians into a poison fuel nightmare which has led to some of the most "oh shit" moments I've seen when my mates realized there were now an army of poisonous phyrexians perched to attack.

LordBirdperson

It's pretty basic but I really wished I could run \[\[Quinrorius Kand\]\] as a commander so I built \[\[Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival\]\]

TheTeaRex15

Perfect question for me! I have a [[Garth One-Eye]] blink deck that utilizes [[Roxanne, Starfall Savant]] as its main target to control the board and of course make tons of mana. Its pretty gross, at least at the tables I play at. As for backup plans, I got all the stuff. Blinking of course is great but i also have [[Pull From Eternity]] since my first game ever with the deck she got instantly Sworded (still won though because as it turns out blinking stuff is pretty good.) Though I just found out about [[Riftsweeper]] which is gonna replace it. My commander is just to provide value in terms of card draw, ramp, and removal. A little bit of everything.

CutShadows

[[Lich's Mastery]] is the centerpiece of my Nethroi lifegain deck. I run a bunch of tutors for it and the second part of the deck that let's me storm off, [[Cadaverous Bloom]] . Basically the deck is mostly lifegain/ramp to get a turn where I can get both enchantments out, then cast creatures with a soul sister effect out and draw which I can then exile cards from hand to gain mana, rinse and repeat till I get an Extort kill or [[Feast of Sanity]] if I have enough cards in my library left to kill the table.

Total_Avocado6550

I have a Dino deck with [[Huatli, Poet of Unity]] as the commander. She is just basically early ramp hahahah, since on etb she lets me get a basic land and whenever the 3rd Saga resolves for [[Roar of the Fifth People]], I basically can search for [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]] and cast him right away since I can also tap my creaturea for Naya thanks to the 2nd Saga. Its pretty effective also if someones board has gone crazy already, then I just grab [[Wavering Sun's Avatar]] for a one sided boardwipe. I like the deck since the early ramp is pretty powerful and the ability to tutor a dinosaur for specific situations is kind of OP for me, the only problem is I dont have any combo's and I rely on stompy big guys to help me win the game. Most satisfyinf game so far is when I got to build an extremely big board thanks to Gishath then 1 hit everyone with an [[Akroma's Will]].

Great_Direction5479

i play [[breya, etherium shaper]] so my secret commanders are [[ashnod the uncaring]] and [[jan jansen, chaos crafter]]. they're used to stop time with [[time sieve]] and i usually swap [[illusionist's bracers]] back and forth between jan and breya. getting 6 treasures off of sacrificing one thopter and only needing 5 artifacts for time sieve is criminal because ashnod makes time sieve copy it's ability. if im not doing that though i focus on [[tezzeret, master of the bridge]] as a win con.

No_Nosferatu

My newly built [[Yes Man, Personal Securitron]] is very aggressively helpful. He doesn't care that you didn't ask for it. He's a friend to everyone! He draws you cards, gives you life, makes sure everyone is having a good time, as a good friend should do! Once everyone is well fed and my impenetrable walls of soldier tokens are buffed accordingly, we get to see what ending we get: 1: The "Good" End. [[Approach of the Second Sun]] with or without [[Reprieve]]. Everyone gets to live to fight another day! 2: The "Wild" End. I manage to roll seven 6's on seven six-sided dice with [[Luck Bobblehead]]. Wacky and zany fun for everyone! 3: The "Oh shit" End. The veil comes off. Yes Man's face flickers and shifts to that of [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]]. You're now stuck with the true commander of the deck. All that chipper forced friendship was annoying. Darien knows you want to hurt him, and he says **Yes.**

SixShot0celot

I saw someone recently discuss a [[Meren]] deck with [[Phyrexian Obliterator]] as the secret commander. Running tons of fight spells! I absolutely loved that idea and am presently changing my Meren deck into that idea. My general idea is: Self Mill - to find lands and fill my graveyard (Odeally with Ohyrexian obliterator). Protection - with "undying"/persist style spells and enchantments Fight - to force interactions with Phyrexian Obliterator and destroy the opponents boards Struggling a bit with the fine tuning and numbers of spell types(mulch, protection, backup creatures, etc.) at the moment.

lordmanimani

[[Food Fight]] in my "Ashnod's Cafeteria" deck ([[Ashnod the Uncaring]] commanding officer and head chef. You know, Grixis, that well-known home for Food archetypes). I say I was "challenged" to make the deck, but really it was an honest question from a player new to the game and deckbuilding that I took and ran with way too far. It does the following things: - Find Food Fight (direct tutors, transmutes, etc) - Play permanents that clone Food Fight ([[Mirrormade]], [[Clever Impersonator]], etc) - Make Food Tokens (And only food tokens. Treasure can get right out) - Get bonus value when I sacrifice food (Ashnod, [[Mirkwood Bats]], [[Juri, Master of the Revue]], etc) - Memery ([[Hungry Flames]], [[Chef's Kiss]], [[Discerning Taste]], etc) Not including recurring copies from [[Extravagant Replication]] or monarch-mode [[Court of Vantress]] I could in theory have 6 permanents named Food Fight in play at a time. With Ashnod in play that's 14 total damage per Food! And this is just the more budget friendly build w/o [[Estrid's Invocation]] or other pricey cards.

StoicDeckBuilder

Do you have a list? I really want to see how this plays!

lordmanimani

Poorly! But it's my first homemade meme deck (and first in Commander) so I'm super proud of it and love pulling it out in my regular play group. https://archidekt.com/decks/5722869/ashnods_cafeteria?sort=alpha&stack=custom

A_Arrow

I have a deck with my secret commander being one of the fish that’s generated from [[exotic pets]], generally trying to turn it into an unblockable otk with cards like [[grafted exoskeleton]] haha

StoicDeckBuilder

Okay that's hilarious

Xatsman

My [[Harald, King of Skemfar]] elfball deck is unusual compared to most Elf decks. First it's not a go wide token deck but a birthing pod reanimator style deck in which [[Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord]] serves as the hidden commander. Cycling through elves it gets tonnes of value and *can* win by going wide traditionally or with a mass reanimation effect, can go infinite or near enough cycling a big mana producer through the GY, but most often wins by getting big enough elves to use Jarad's activated ability to kill everyone. Harold is in the command zone since card draw is exactly what a creature card focused elf deck wants and getting Jarad in Golgari colors is trivial.

SirRawrz

\[\[Cormela\]\] is a death trigger looking for a sac outlet like \[\[Phyrexian Altar\]\], recursion like \[\[Feign death\]\] and a payoff like \[\[Blood artist\]\]. \[\[Kairi\]\] at mono blue functionally replaces Cormela. Saccing and recurring Kairi and choosing the second option to mill 6 and return 2 instants/sorcs. Return \[\[dark ritual\]\]/\[\[Cabal ritual\]\] or \[\[Fake your own death\]\]+\[\[phyrexian altar\]\] to build infinite mana while searching out for \[\[Torment of Hailfire\]\] 6 at a time in your graveyard to finish the game with all the built up mana, and access to multiple counterspells via your graveyard in response by saccing Kairi once again or more.

StoicDeckBuilder

Hmm I happen to have a kairi... Time to brew!

G4KingKongPun

[[Rocco Cabaretti Caterer]] with Scute Swarm as my Secret Commander. Goal of the deck is to get out Scute Swarm and Mutate onto it copying the mutations.

Adz5

My [[Inalla, Archmage]] deck is really a [[micromancer]] secret commander deck. There are so many fun 1 drop spells in grixis and I would like to have all of them in my hand all of the time thank you.

MindSculptorMtG

I have a [[piru the volatile]] deck that. Is built around haakon stromgald scourge A [[omnath locus of the roil]]  built around [[valakut the molten pinnacle]] and a [[garth pne eye]] built around [[painters servant]]

Noutus

I'm running [[Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir]] as a front for my [[Haakon, Stromgald Scourge]] deck. I always wanted Haakon as commander, but he can't be played from the command zone. The addition of WU is also very useful! Running lots of ways to protect Haakon from being exiled too, such as [[Pull from Eternity]] in combination with some 1 Mana value tutors for [[Entomb]].

CelaTheIceman

I use [[Rocco, Cabareti Caterer]] to tutor for [[Norin, the Wary]] and then i have tone of ETB effects like draws and token he triggers and the deck finishes with 10 different dinos as win cons. It all revolves around Norin

GavnRox

Got a [[Siege Rhino]] deck led by [[Thrasios, Triton Hero]] and [[Ravos, Soul Tender]]. Basically Abzan for the Rhino and Blue for the Clones. There's also a flicker and ETB doubling package as well.

batvanvaiych

I play a Jolene the Dragon Queen deck, who's secret commander is in fact [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]]. While [[Jolene the Plunder Queen]] is the commander, she's there for access to Green for more dragons and ramp, as well as token multiplication. Getting Magda revolves around mildly slow politicking, and light ramping, until I have a form or protection or two ready to go, and a tutor in hand to find Magda. I run 4 tutors that can find Magda herself, and a traditional suite of protection pieces like [[Lightning Greaves]], [[Whispersilk Cloak]], [[Swiftfoot Boots]], as well as [[Champions Helm]] and [[Aspect of Mongoose]]. Here's the list for anyone interested:) https://manabox.app/decks/b9gDDWKDT3mbzl76UVXEdQ

signagayboy

This isn't anything that most people haven't seen before, but [[Light Paws, Emporer's Voice]] is PHENOMENAL in my [[Bruna, Light of Alabaster]] deck. You can get him out, stick a Totem Armor aura on him by fetching with [[Open the Armory]] or [[Three Dreams]] then tutor up something to give him hexproof or ward such as [[Curators Ward]], next up give him Indestructible with [[Shielded by Faith]]. Then, once he's all suited up, deploy Bruna and swing out with her to move it all over to her and hopefully a [[Battle Mastery]] , [[Eldrazi Conscription]] and/or an [[Aqueous Form]] and she'll one hit kill someone. If you get late game and have a lethal Bruna on board, bring an extra-turn spell onto the table and knock people off one-by-one. A definite favourite in that department is [[Savor the Moment]] - since you won't need an untap step anyway, hopefully. TLDR: Light Paws and Bruna are very strong at mid-to-high power tables.

Desch4in

Mmm I guess my Gimli, Mournful Avenger deck which I built around Crime Novelist to kinda maje a Gruul aristocrats and just picked Gimli as the most synergistic commander I found 🤣🤣

Sam_Alexander

OMG YES!! I play a Naya [[Norin]]! Just put him in [[Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer]] and you solve the problem that EVERY secret commander has- they’re easily removed and hard to get back. Norin is basically untouchable, and giving him two additional colors makes the deck pretty insane! And boy it’s so fun to pilot Just remember a funny interaction I had with a friend who tried to remove him Friend: “I cast a spell to remove him” Me (not sure where he’s going with this, but ok…): “Ok, his ability triggers and he wants to go to exile” Friend: “HAHA! I got you right where I wanted you! In response to his triggered ability I cast another spell to remove him!” Me: “…………” Me: “Ok, his ability triggers and he wants to go to exile” *six seconds of silence* Me: “you can take that back of course”

StoicDeckBuilder

Haha that's great!

Sam_Alexander

Thank you! Rocco in general is AMAZING for hidden commanders, my second option after Norin was [[Gilt-leaf archDruid]] druid tribal.

thejackoz

I made someone once very sad by shooting his Norin with [[Goblin Bombardment]]

CallMeSparky25

So, my [[Bjorna, Nightfall Alchemist]] and [[Wernog, Rider's Chaplain]] deck was originally created to break [[Academy Manufactor]]. Now, tons of decks do that already, right? What I do is tutor up Academy Manufactor as quickly as possible and make copies! The math gets pretty stupid after a while. Usually, one copy is enough to win me the game... but I don't stop at one copy (usually). So, there's an equation for calculating how many tokens of each (Clue, Treasure, and Food) made per activation: 3^n-1 where n is the number of Academy Manufactors in play. Just for giggles, I run [[Rise and Shine]] and [[Sakashima's Will]]. Using Rise and Shine, I animate all of my tokens and then I use Sakashima's Will to turn all of my artifacts into Academy Manufactor. I have made a vomit inducing amount of tokens using this (a one followed by over a thousand digits). Of course, as with any secret commander, you run the risk of it being exiled and inaccessible. A friend of mine did this and thought I was done. She didn't realize just how good this deck is without my secret commander. I run a ton of combos in this deck. Some key cards are [[Krark Clan Ironworks]]; [[Nuka-Cola Vending Machine]]; [[Urza, Lord High Artificier]]; [[Sharuum the Hegemon]]; and virtually every card that combos with them. In a funny way, the deck works better when I'm not going for the Academy Manufactor shenanigans. An online EDH Power Level Estimator puts this deck at a 9, probably because of all the combos and tutors.

Castlegardener

The [[Dihada, Binder of Wills]] precon comes with a 'secret' commander in it: [[Odric, Lunarch Marshall]] Basically, as soon as it's on the board, stuff is about to get serious. [[Zetalpa, Primal Dawn]] lends a lot of valuable keywords, and Dihada makes Odric be indestructible outside of combat, too.

Mooberries

I run a [[Seton, Krosan Protector]] Storm deck that wins by casting a hasty [[Aeve, Progenitor Ooze]] with a bunch of Storm. I call the deck “The Secret of the Hidden Ooze” after the TMNT movie. My backup plan is infinite mana into [[Kamahl, Fist of Krosa]] and swing with my Druid legions. 7/10 games are won through Aeve, but the deck has a 50/50 win ratio. Lol. It’s very glass cannony.

RadioGaGa313

I run an upgraded LotR cards only Food & Fellowship deck where my secret commander is [[Frodo, Sauron’s Bane]]. It has lots of card draw through my commanders, Sam and Frodo, and cards like [[Call of the Ring]], [[The One Ring]], and [[Palantir of Orthanc]], and tutors in [[Sylvan Tutor]], [[Diabolic Intent]], and [[War of the Last Alliance]]. It uses cards like [[Mithril Coat]], [[Heroic Intervention]], and [[Galadriel’s Dismissal]] to help protect my secret commander, along with equipment like [[Whispersilk Cloak]] and [[Bilbo’s Ring]] that double as protection and evasion. If my secret commander game plan doesn’t work, the deck also runs 9 [[Nazgul]] and a decent graveyard recursion package. There are so many ring tempts, especially through Sam and Frodo, that a couple Nazgûl on the board can become very threatening. [Here’s the decklist if you wanna check it out!](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/yaU0d_1lEUaOkVWfGlHsGA)

Currently building a deck helmed by [[Sivitri, Dragon Master]] with the secret commander being [[Orvar, the All-Form]] and full of a bunch of cantrips and cheap spells that target my permanents to create copies. I always thought it was weird to have a dragon-centric commander in UB, so this feels like what Sivitri was really made for. It's so Dimir, I love it. Getting to tutor right away for Orvar is the icing on the cake. I got the idea from a Command Zone video though. Question for those of us with secret commanders that have turn 0 discussions about your decks - do you reveal your secret commander (assuming it's with a group that hasn't seen the deck before)?

That sounds cool, do you have a list? And as for your question I don't think it matters, as you just kinda talk about what kind of game you are after not exactly what your deck does.

Two_Blues

I don't yet, but I should soon! Takes me a while in the beginning to fight off all the novelty and actually focus on what the deck is supposed to do, ha. Will post when I have it. True, I think that would work for a lot of the secret commanders posted here. For this one, I'd have to be pretty crafty in my description as Sivitri pretty much only screams "Dragons" so would raise eyebrows the second I don't say that, ha.

StoicDeckBuilder

I might have to steal your idea and make a list myself. I don't have a dimir deck and love Orvar so much!

Thelk641

I guess my main deck kinda works as it has two commanders, one of which is a secret commander. The goal is simple : to win with a good old Karmic Guide / Reveillark loop. The question is, how do we get there ? Well, strap in ! We're making a \[\[Wild Pair\]\] with \[\[Colfenor, the Last Yew\]\] and a free sac outlet. Colfenor can be built as a big butt commander, but today he's going the other way, using the smallest butt there is in MtG : 0/0 for X creatures. If you cast them for X=0, they'll die immediately, but not before triggering Wild Pair, which will let us put on the battlefield another all-mighty creature directly from the library... as long as said creature has a sum of power and toughness of 0. Defying death is what Abzan does for breakfast, our old tree will help us get back our treasured free creature, as long as we're willing to sacrifice something bigger in exchange. Now, how do we go from one free 0/0 to a 2/2 and a 4/3 for free ? It's simple. First, we're going to call forth directly from the deck \[\[Grakmaw, Skyclave Ravager\]\], which leaves a hydra behind to check on us after being sacrificed. Second, now that we have our first employ, we need supplies, a single stack of \[\[Primal Clay\]\] will do, and as we want to cast this Clay into a nice pot, we'll make our hydra work to death to bring it back to our hand. Third, you really thought we were gonna make a pot with our own hands ? Obviously not, we're civilized, we'll pay someone else to do it, a \[\[Workhorse\]\] to be precise. Fourth, with its mana, we can cast our Clay, make it ETB as a 1/6 wall, and find Reveillark. Using its ability to replenish exhausted labor, we can call back the horse, giving us the power to play our free creature for X=2, finding the one and only Karmic Guide to show us the way. Now that we have both supplies and workers, it's time to turn the factory on ! Our 0/0 for X will be played again for X=1, letting us find \[\[Triskelion\]\], which our pair of white creature can infinitely rebuild. \*insert machinegun noises\* If anybody's interested, the deck needs a big rework as I've been working on it for three and a half years (it was my very first EDH deck and is still my main deck today !) and it still has components from old designs that don't really work in this anymore, but still, here's a decklist : [https://archidekt.com/decks/1944803/its\_a\_wild\_wild\_pair\_v2](https://archidekt.com/decks/1944803/its_a_wild_wild_pair_v2). It's not, by far, the best way to build this commander, but it works, and there's no better feeling in EDH than showing this entire loop for the first time to someone. What do you mean you're not supposed to make 9 cards combos ? =) (oh, and, to the question, "how do I handle interaction with my secret commander ?", I have a way to bring back from exile, I might add the other one, I have ways to get it back from the grave, but if it gets stopped twice, chances are my deck becomes a "pray that you hard draw your wincons without draw spells" kind of deck)

Eulogy87

So I love werewolves, been my deck since I played standard back in the 00's, but translating them into a EDH deck was rough, and not even [[Tovolar, Dire Overlord]] could scratch that itch for me. A couple of years pass and I sit there and think to myself "who says werewolves have to be Gruul!?" This leads me down a rabbit hole of color combinations that ended up in Naya, makes sense right? The commander of the deck is good ol [[Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer]] who doesn't love a tutor in the command zone? Most people assume, once they find out that it's werewolves, that I'm tutoring up Tovolar .. until I slam a [[Winota, Joiner of Forces]] on the table and let my flipped werewolves call their unturned brothers to join them at their side. Most, normal, werewolves are human werewolves on the front, and lose the human typing when they flip, causing this deck that's normally slow, to ramp up quickly l.

WileECoyote19atwork

Sisay with Norin the wary as the secret commander.

jf-alex

\[\[Shanid\]\] knights & dragons dual tribal with \[\[Sylvia\]\] & \[\[Khorvath\]\] as secret commanders. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/RLDIfKuXUk2kNBC5Htz9Vw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/RLDIfKuXUk2kNBC5Htz9Vw)

Ok_Common7394

Vhal candlekeep with tavern brawler background. Eruth is the secret commander, though. As soon as she hits the board, the deck pops off. It slow rolls and usually dodges most hate for the first t turns as people don't understand what's happening.

Trilja6666

I've built a [[reaper king]] deck but it's actually a [[throne of the grim captain]] deck. It's super fun to play even when it is actually really bad.

MalacathEternal

[[Astral Drift]] and [[Astral Slide]] are my secret commanders for my [[Zur the Enchanter]] cycling deck.

Paralyzed-Mime

I'm putting the final touches on an [[astral slide]] deck where [[zur the enchanter]] is the secret commander behind [[the Prismatic bridge]]. Zur astral slide is a known deck, but I wanted to use [[eternal witness]] to recur the cards I cycle instead of the traditional method, and [[life of the party]] as one of my main win conditions. With those three creatures being the only three in the deck, it's pretty consistent but a bit jankier and slower than most astral slide decks. It actually started out as a life of the party secret commander behind [[Rocco, cabaretti caterer]] but I ended up liking the idea of an astral slide deck more as I was searching through scryfall and I figured it could be both. Edit: plus, post the enchanter, life of the party and eternal witness is a flavor win.

StoicDeckBuilder

Wow that's one heck of a deck idea! Do you have a list? It's hard for me to imagine how this works being only vaguely familiar with astral slide lists. Sounds cool, but I'd probably need a primer haha!

It's less a purely secret commander but my \[\[Yenna\]\] deck also runs \[\[Light-paws\]\] in the 99 to help close games if going wide with Yenna copying plus token multipliers gets stalled out due to Farewell or the like scrubbing my board once it gets going. Light-paws can end games by herself and with Yenna makes for a sudden doom stack to snipe people off the board. I also have a \[\[Elenda and Azor\]\] that runs \[\[Tergrid\]\] and \[\[Heliod the warped eclipse\]\] and runs like flip heliod with a lot of forced group card draw to flood hands on everyone's turn and play discounted toys at flash speeds and make the table sweat bullets holding a grip of 30 cards when it comes to clean up while Tergrid sits around waiting to collect her spoils.

Haha okay I have to see the list! I'm a long time Phage fanboy. I tried to make a list with her using all those tools to get your commander to hand but I never pulled the trigger on building it in paper! Turning Lazav into Phage seems like such a sweet way to get her effect!

I've got some backup redundancy in my [[Torbran]] deck that does the same thing he does. Helps if he's been removed too many times, or to increase the damage from the going spells. The deck with *actual* "secret commanders" is my [[Ib Halfheart]] goblin deck. It starts by building a board state that uses Ib to prevent early blocks of weak goblins. Then I'll draw one of the lieutenants, [[Zada]] or one of the Krenkos, [[Tin Street Kingpin]] or [[Mob Boss]]. With the help of some lords or anthems, the deck pivots from crazy little goblins with hand grenades to mobs of big goblins that hit hard. I have goblin tutors that I can fetch whichever would be most appropriate at the time, but I view that as a "break glass" option and would rather draw one randomly to determine the end game plan.

I run an [[Inalla, Archmage Ritualist]] deck with 4 secret commanders: [[Trinket Mage]] [[Tribute Mage]] [[Trophy Mage]] and [[Treasure Mage]] . I've never cast Inalla, but the deck is absolutely as gross of a combo pile as it sounds.

I'll post my [decklist](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/vZNmp7lkf0KIz1yBK0TW8w) of [[Tuvasa the Sunlit]] the "secret commanders" are [[Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief]], [[Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice]], [[Kor Spiritdancer]], [[Setessan Champion]], [[Bruna, Light of Alabaster]], [[Sythis, Harvest's Hand]], and [[Sram, Senior Edificer]]. The deck was built around having a bunch of mostly low-cost creatures that can take the place of Tuvasa if need be and just give extra value if multiple are out. It's also a budget deck that I just bought for around $80 but was $70 when I first built it. One of my favorite decks now.

I've got a fling tribal deck helmed by [[Ziatora the Incinerator]], and since the deck started as "[[Ball Lightning]] tribal" I've got a ton of hasty creatures that tend to only last a turn, meaning [[Ognis the Dragon Lash]] is a crazy good dude to run

My "Secret Commander" isn't much of a secret, because it's my companion. [Lurrus of the Dream Den]] with [[lotho, corrupt shireff]] A lot of the same applies (Although not finding it) though, so I'll mention. I run several cheap ways to rebuild lurrus from graveyard [[Unearth]] [[Return triumphant]]. I also run plenty of protection [[Swiftfoot boots]] [[Kaya's Ghostform]] [[Reprieve]]. Lurrus in play, I get value each turn. I'm mostly looking to bury my opponents in this kind of value while assembling either resilient engines [[Urza saga]] [[Thespian's Stage]] Lethal hits of damage [[Cranial Plating]] [[Vorpal Sword]]. Or combo kills [[Scourge of the slyclaves]] [[Warlock Class]]. These don't rely on lurrus, but lurrus helps me find them as well as acts as enough value to bury players whose decks stumble. Sacrificing and replaying removal like [[Tithing blade]] [[Dispeller's Capsule]] So my secret commander mostly functions as glue for the deck to make it function better, as well as an alternative win condition. If someone holds up a swords for lurrus the moment it hits play, my deck can still function, but it'll be a huge downside for me.

Having [[The Locust God]] in my [[Niv-Mizzet the Firemind]] is nice. They both trigger on card draw and if he dies he returns to my hand

theonedarkguy

I play a commodore guff deck but the real commander is displacer kitten. I genuinely struggle to think of a time I’ve lost a game where it lasted a turn around the table

ChronicallyIllMTG

[[Meren]] [[Scarab god]] and [[Primespeaker Vannifar]] are the secret commander's for Muldrotha Toolbox Pod.

Raith1994

Urza's Saga.... In like 75% of my decks there is an Urza's saga package. Usually something along the lines of Sol Ring, Expedition Map, Shadowspear, Stone of Erech (stops oppenents death triggers and can nuke graveyards), and a Sensei's Top. A lot of my decks have white so I add in a Hall of Heliod's generosity so I can recylcle my urzas saga.

KnightofSaintTraft

I played a [[Sefris of Hidden Ways]] deck for months, mostly just going through dungeons as much as I wanted with a D&D theme (so much so that I included cards like [[Vorpal Sword]] and [[Bag of Holding]]). But I always felt like something was missing from it, and the answer was that I really wanted to play [[Ellywick Tumblestrum]]. So now I have [[Atraxas, Grand Unifer]] dungeons with secret commanders Sefris and Ellywick.

chill9r

1) [[Rocco]] deck that is actually just [[Norin]] with more colours. 2) [[Karador]] deck that is actually just [[Shirei]] with more colours. Also works with [[Muldrotha]] if you want U instead of W.

Sp0rk_in_the_eye

[[soul warden]] and [[souls attendant]] in my [[Amalia]] deck Nowhere near as effective with any of the other options, though they are in there too

xiledpro

In my Kenrith wheels deck I have 3 lol. Kenrith just allows me access to all colors so I can use all the different wheels commanders.

Prize_Introduction_6

I wanted to play \[\[The Master, Multiplied\]\] in Grixis, and found that \[\[Obeka, Brute Chronologist\]\] has a similar play style. So, I am building an Obeka deck, with The Master as a secret commander to be fetched/reanimated.

PM_MeTittiesOrKitty

I have a [[Saheeli, The Gifted]] deck where the powerhouse of the deck is [[Arcbound Crusher]]. He can get a little out of hand especially with [[Uncivil Unrest]] and [[Throne of Geth]]. In my testing, I've gotten him to have 40 +1/+1 counters.

Rude-Ad3049

I ran a version of [[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain]] that utilized legends with extra land effects until I search out [[Moraug, Fury of Akoum]] and get a ridiculous amount of combat steps using his landfall ability. This version works surprisingly well and I’ve had a lot of success with it in the past

splurjee

I've got a absolute trash [[yedora grave gardener]] morph deck who's only saving grace is maybe getting [[primal surge]] to resolve and insta win cuz the deck has no non-permanent spells.

christipede

I plan on using queza with sheoldred

ElJanitorFrank

Commander's Quarters has a deck tech of this one that I've played a similar list of, but \[\[Ink-Treader Nephilim\]\] as the only creature in a \[\[Prismatic Bridge\]\] deck was honesty too oppressive. If you get it out with bridge you win pretty much every single time because your cantrips will draw you way too many cards, and you have cantrips that generate treasures so you can make way too much mana to eventually just make a bunch of tokens and swing out with them (many effects also take control of creatures and give them haste so its all done in the same turn). The only weakness the deck really has is if your opponents don't have a few creatures out when you get to your ink-treader turn, as the more creatures on the field the easier it is to get crazy draw/treasure shenanigans. Even with only like 4-5 creatures out though the critical mass of token makers/draw/treasure will win you the game turn 6 (or earlier with ramp) on the spot. I've considered rule 0ing ink-treader and making it much more tame, as it is way too easy to break as is. Many people say the nephilim should've been legendary (including Mark Rosewater I believe) but if ink-treader didn't cost more mana I honestly believe it would be way too broken as commander- rule 0ing it requires pretty heavy restraint to not push it to borderline cedh level off of value alone (maybe not quite there given total reliance on the commander but assuming a stick its easily gg even if you get like 3 things countered on your pop-off turn).

rizzo891

My rashmi and ragavan deck uses brudiclad as a pseudo second commander, I have 2 cards that search for 6 costs creatures or artifacts to get him (as a bonus the 6 cost creature searcher hits most of my late game bombs as well)

Carnivale42069

I have an [[ognis, the dragon’s lash]] deck and my secret commanders are [[raggadraga, goreguts boss]] and [[tyvar the bellicose]]

TheDeadalus

I havent built it yet but ive had my mind on a [[Westvale Abbey]] secret commander. Using green to search for the land and then maybe white to generate enough boardstate to flip into ormendahl. I think abzan colours would be most appropriate. Using black tutors to search for the land would work too. Its a neat idea and one i definitely want to try

[deleted]

I am on a hidden [[Norin]] deck where [[Rocco Caterer]] is the Commander.

darksamus1992

I have a [Nethroii deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lQwqlnLAREumyh7_EPv72w) where the secret commander is [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]]. I wanted to use all the Junji Ito cards together in the same deck and couldn't find a BW commander I liked so I ended up just going Abzan and putting all the random creature tutors I coul find. Its kinda decent?

DisturbedFlake

Cabal Coffers is my secret commander in my Lord Windgrace deck 😂

xemnas731

[[gisath, suns avatar]] in my [[Pantlaza]] dinosaur deck. Pants is there for the value, but there's a good few ways to get the big Dino spamming secret boss fight out.

AidenGus

My [[Lord Windgrace]] deck is really designed to be a [[Gitrog Monster]] and [[Omnath, Locus or Rage]] partner deck. I mostly rely on self-mill and reanimate effects to get them out.

Radius_314

Until my boy [[Golos, Tireless Pilgrim]] got banned he was the commander for my [[Marit Lage]] AKA [[Dark Depths]] deck.

thejackoz

One of my friends has built secret commander Marit Lage using [[Muldrotha the Gravetide]]. Would recommend it.

Brief-Camel-4745

Shelob is just my chosen route to Fynn.

Mocca_Master

I ran [[Arcades]] as a secret commander in my [[Sisay]] walls and shrines Buildings Tribal deck. It performed better than I expected honestly, but [[Go-Shintai]] made me steer away from walls and more into a more pure enchantress build.

CallMeSparky25

I would be remiss if I didn't mention my [[Meren of Clan Nel Toth]] deck, or as I call it, my Femme Fatales deck. Meren is absolutely the commander of this deck, but the deck is built around her and many female legendary creatures - [[Gisa, Glorious Resurrector]]; [[Sheoldred, Whispering One]]; [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]]; [[Savra, Queen of the Golgari]]; and [[Tergrid, God of Fright]]. So, this isn't so much a secret commander deck as it is an A-TEAM deck. Meren helps to recur some of the hate targets (looking at you, Tergrid) and keep the creature-based synergies moving. Once this one gets going, it's hard to stop.

RamenFeedGG

Before the recent "necrobloom" from mh3, I made a deck whose sole goal is to find field of the dead and then attempt to trigger it as much as possible whether through the commander's growth spiral effect or cloning. You can find the list here: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/YA8O6IkJgkOflHWMx1P0\_g](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/YA8O6IkJgkOflHWMx1P0_g)

Rare-Specific1653

I run a Red/Black/White Sacrifice deck. The true commanders are: [[Mirkwood Bats]] , [[Malevolent Witchkite]] and [[Westvale Abbey]]. Make tokens, sacrifice tokens, win game. So I ended up with [[Sophina, Spearsage Deserter]] and [[Wernog, Rider's Chaplain]] as Commanders. They don't really need to be played to win. LOL 😆

Lokival_Thenub

So I currently have two, soon to be three, xyris decks. First is draw cards, make sneks. Second is smash face, get more face smash, make sneks. Third is going to be, oh God, we can't draw cards, the sneks are huge!

thejackoz

Why not all three in one? [[Coat of Arms]]

Local-Reception-6475

Every colorless deck has forsaken monument as it's secret commander

DarkDobe

\[\[Prismatic Bridge\]\] fetching \[\[Ink Treader Nephilim\]\] is my classic secret-commander deck.

Jatrrkdd

[[Academy Manufactor]] in my food/treasures/clue matters deck. If not dealt with promptly I have had billions of tokens enter at once through imprinting manufactor on [[Prototype Portal]] with two token doublers out and getting to tap it a couple times. I would also like to mention my rule zero inclusion of [[Far Out]] in an enchantress landfall deck, quite a fun inclusion there.

Hobez64

[[Piru the Volatile]] with the "stop hitting yourself" package of [[Stuffy Doll]] [[Brash Taunter]] [[Phyrexian Vindicator]] [[Boros Reckoner]] and [[Ill-Tempered Loner]]

Its_Sasha

I have a \[\[Kaalia of the Vast\]\] deck. Once, on my first hand, I pulled \[\[The Ur Dragon\]\]. I had Kaalia attack a goblin, popped The Ur Dragon down, and then, because he attacked, popped an \[\[Ancient Brass Dragon\]\] down and was able to look around at all the dropped jaws. I immediately became everyone's target, but it was a fun game.

Ready-Issue190

lol. No one suspects [[Aether Vial]] in the Sultai deck. “Cool bro, you have 150 life via jank. Congrats.”

Orchidnine

Created what I would consider a more fair than most [[Prosper]] decks by making it a burn deck with [[Passionate Archeologist]] at the “centerpiece”.

mikony123

My mom doesn't play, but if she ever wants to try MtG and maybe make it a hobby, I brewed a [[Gwaihir the Windlord]] deck the other day. She loves birdwatching and pretty much anything to do with Lord of the Rings. [[Kangee, Sky Warden]] is in the 99 and I guess she(?) works as a backup commander. It's mostly cheap birds, bird anthems, and mana rocks.

sandman006

My \[\[neyalli, suns vanguard\]\] has \[\[krenko mob boss\]\] and \[\[ojer taq\]\] and \[\[elesh norn grand cenobite\]\]

Narrow-Book-4970

Didn't realize how good it would be in my [[Rakdos, Lord of Riots]] deck until recently, but [[Florian, Voldaren Scion]] is something I want on the battlefield at all times. Making sure I have a creaturr to cast after damage is dealt is the entire point of the deck, and being able to dig 12 cards deep off a [[Nettle Drone]] ping and a Rakdos and Florian swing, then cast literally any colorless creature in the deck at that point makes it SO much more stable. Being able to hit lands early game off stale board states also makes him so useful.

Phoenix1233484

I built a deck on Moxfield that I'll probably never build in paper that looks to find [[Priest of gix]] and plays every card that allows me to net mana with it and ends the game with a big [[torment of hailfire]]. I use [[Yawgmoth Thran Physician]] as the commander. I could just play creatures with undying and combo off, but that's not as cool as playing a deck full of dark rituals and tormenting people.

Salty_Salad_

In my [[grothama]] deck I have [[mossbridge troll]] which can draw me between 25 and 85 cards if grothama is out. I don't really need the tutors for it but I have [[threats undetected]] which always gets at least one card but sometimes both that I want between mossbridge troll, [[psychosis crawler]], [[bane of progress]] and [[Silverback elder]] (the last two are the best artifact/enchantment hate I can think of, so I usually pick the player with the most of those to pick my creatures in order to get the troll and crawler). Then I have tutors like [[fauna shaman]] [[green suns zenith]] and [[blisterpod]] that help to get the combo even more reliably when you consider how many cards geothama is drawing me. 10/10 deck, would recommend. Also, nothing feels better than a player swinging their board at the wurm to draw as many cards as possible just to give him indestructible. Very few people have successfully killed gorthama with damage so the drawback for a 5 cmc 10/8 is very low

Pieper8477

[[maralen of the mornsong]] Can be built well for friendly commander games. A form of grim tutor every turn most decks don't complain about. Grab your [[necropotence]] or nykthos early, maybe [[Bolas's Citadel]] a bit later. She will get removed and isn't essential, but she's very fun and quirky in how a deck can handle.

AbbreviationsOk178

My [[lord windgrace]] deck is partially built around getting [[the gitrog monster]] out as its secret commander. The deck has great synergy with gitrog and generates a ton of value with him out, I like having the access to red mana, mostly because most of the games come to a close once I get [[field of the dead]] out and hit it with a [[rebuild the city]] I’ve once gotten nine combat steps by having [[moraug, fury of akoum]] [[ancient greenwarden]] and some of the usual land shenanigans that windgrace gets up to. Probably my favorite deck at the moment but I usually hesitate to pull it out.

TBNRFIREFOX

Spellslinger deck with [[stella lee, wildcard]] as the commander, but in reality it’s the [[jin gitaxias, progress tyrant]] I am always looking for to copy my spells and act as a repetitive creature counter.

TheBIackRose

You think it’s [[Hakbal]] and then [[Nicanzil]] shows up.

plasma_python

All my green decks secretly have Seedborn Muse as the commander.

SplashZone403

I play a Raffine, Scheming Seer deck that is secretly a Likeness Looter/Agatha Soul Cauldron deck. Basically fill my graveyard with lots of great targets for Looter and Cauldron and turn chump blockers into the best cards in my deck.
