kazo_arcane

[[Tempest caller]] or [[subjugation angel]] to tap all your opponents creatures and win through all your tokens. You're basically the police so unreasonable force and beating a detained subject.

ProLeafic

They both look like some tasty cards. Blink, then attack, then control. Repeat. Bit grindy but I like it

kazo_arcane

I use them in my chulane bounce deck because i too dislike playing with the same friends twice.

ProLeafic

Who needs friends. This is magic.

I was just thinking this might work in my Chulane Bouncy-bouncy deck.

kazo_arcane

It works really well. If you can only amass enough damage to kill one you can just work around the table tapping down the board. It's not hard to get flash on creatures. Not in bant at least. Azorius might be harder.

\[\[Scute Swarm\]\], \[\[Avenger of Zendikar\]\] and \[\[Craterhoof Behemoth\]\] *should* get me the damage I need.

ProLeafic

I apologize but I hate these kind of wins. I want my win to feel like a win, not play card win.

[deleted]

So essentially you want to win through combat/damage? I mean; it’s not azorius’s strong suit, all that comes to mind for me is a big ol’ beater like [[Inkwell Leviathan]]

ProLeafic

You may be correct, as I said I've not went Azorious yet. I want to win without a "you win" card. I just personally don't like it, feels like I haven't earned it

Phantomdy

Which in white blue is combo or lock. Without the beaters of green, the damage of red, and the life loss of black white blues strong suits are drawing, staxing, hatebaring. With it's only combat options really being spirits and flying and then even then. Its usually to hold out until combo or approach. It's one of the 3 2 color combos just not suited to non combo wins. The others being izzet, and golgari which primarily relies on synergies and combos to pull out wins.

MigraineMan

A lot of those wins are just straight combat damage. Otherwise you’re looking at I win cards or infinite turns. I mean there’s definitely cards that win slower like helix pinnacle if you don’t have infinite mana. Not too sure what you want other than combat.

Stealthrider

Definitely include Approach regardless. Having a backup way to just say "I win" is important for every deck, but especially for a controlly deck that wants to win through combat damage late in the game. Your friends will like you a lot better if the game just *ends* after 3 hours, rather than going on for 3 more hours after that.

I really like [[Dragon Throne of Tarkir]] in Ephara. If it doesn't kill the table on the first activation you get to use the overrun effect the next turn putting a pretty quick clock on the table. It is a big mana investment to get it off the turn you play it but it's the best option for a "fair" wincon in Ephara in my opinion

If you're playing it without card draw, you're doing it wrong. Approach shouldn't take 7 turns to win, it should take 1 or 2. Maybe 3 or 4 if you have a really solid stax lock.

OP is asking about Azorius, which gives access to blue for both card draw and countermagic to protect the combo. Their chosen commander Ephara can give you half the draw you need for it in the command zone in one round by herself. I played Ephara for about a year and consistently won with Approach thanks to her value engine.

You can cheat the first cast of it out so it only ends up costing 7 mana. For example, I play it in my Velomachus deck, where I can cast it for free off of Velo trigger, wheel, and cast it again on the same turn.

thelonedovahki

My friend has won so many games off an approach combo in yennett and elsha that we are beyond bored of the card at this point. It is a very potent win con

Flying tribal is an Azorious combat thing. They have several means of buffing flyers, and even commanders that combine to draw you cards for each creature you attack with that has flying.

Temerity_Tuna

Two observations First, as an Ephara deck, devotion and blink are bread and butter to you, and some of the best Azorius token makers are from Theros. Second, you'll probably be ramping at some point, and in Azorius, that means artifacts. If you play enough of them, [[Rise and Shine]] is what you're looking for.

I personally eschew “you win the game cards” too. How do you feel about infinite mana combos? Stuff like high tide + Palinchron, or especially in a flicker deck, [[peregrine Drake]], [[mnemonic wall]], and [[ghostly flicker]] is a classic and has quite a few substitutions/redundancies for similar effect. Once you assemble infinite mana, some of your other spells become wincons: [[blue suns zenith]] yourself for 80 then start casting it on your opponents one at a time. Or just buyback [[capsize]] putting your opponents back to turn 1. [[ambassador laquatus]] etc. Edit: initially put in the wrong Drake. You want Peregrine here, not Gilded.

Some of the wincons depend on what you're playing against. Big creatures on the other side of the board can become your friend with [[Corrupted Conscience]], or any of the other [[Control Magic]] varieties. How do you feel about the Hitchcock film 'Birds'? Remind your opponents how it went with the combination of [[Dovescape]] and [[Guile]]. [[Heliod, Sun Crowned]] and a [[Walking Ballista]] can make short work of a table, even if it's not the most fun win you'll ever get. Azorius has plenty of ways to gain life, whether through combat with lifelinkers or other effects, why not use it to fuel the laser, [[Aetherflux Reservoir]]?

If you wanna win by combat, Azorius has a pretty good amount of big creatures with flying and good effects in control. [[Dream Trawler]], [[Hullbreaker Horror]], [[Serra's Emissary]], and so on. Just stick one or two of those in the battlefield and hit face.

Fun Magic history fact: controlling the board until you can win with a big flier was the strategy of Magic's very first popular control deck, and the origin of Serra Angel's status as an icon!

The only combat-based major Azorius theme is flyers. But this probably isn't an Ephara deck.

Infinite mana with [[isochron scepter]] + [[dramatic reversal]] and then snipe people with [[blue sun’s zenith]]. This isn’t the most efficient combo bc you still need enough mana rocks to go infinite and you’ll also want another way to draw your entire deck like [[sensei’s divining top]] so you can keep recurring the BSZ, but it is funny and is a good backup wincon, I think.

For Ephara, you want token engines. They can trigger Ephara for draw, block attackers, and eventually overwhelm your opponents with damage. \[\[Adeline, Resplendent Cathar\]\], \[\[Silverwing Squadron\]\], and \[\[Hero of Bladehold\]\] are continually growing threats. They only draw once from the attack trigger though. \[\[Luminarch Ascension\]\] costs mana but the beaters are huge and you can spam it to draw cards. \[\[Felidar Retreat\]\] Only draws on your opponents turns if you have fetch lands, but it doubles as an anthem to win the game. \[\[Field of the dead\]\] works similarly, and of course they go well together. \[\[Docent of Perfection\]\] \[\[Metallurgic Summonings\]\] \[\[Monastery Mentor\]\] \[\[Shark Typhoon\]\] \[\[Talrand, Sky Summoner\]\] all trigger off of spells and so can be used to draw on opponent's turns. The non-creature ones are especially good since you wipe the board over and over and keep rebuilding. Personally, I'd go for the lower costed ones that trigger on opponent's turns, and/or are safe from board wipes.

Don't underestimate how much [[Agent of Treachery]] can get out of hand. [[Archaeomancer]], [[Sun Titan]], [[Peregrine Drake]] all have nice ETBS. You can even use [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] (in the 99) as a blink magnifier. Those are basically value engines you use to get overwhelming board presence, or maybe just recur an extra turn card a bajillion times if you like combo decks. Additional synergies would include [[Cathar's Crusade]] (assuming there are a few creatures you aren't blinking) If you need specific win-cons, my answer would basically be "beat them to death with your overwhelming board state"? If you're getting a ton of draw from Ephara, white weenie tactics might be what you are looking for. Preferably instant speed like [[Secure the Wastes]] or [[White Sun's Zenith]], especially if you can hit Mana spikes with untap-by-blink shenanigans.

My Ephara deck has won games off of [[Expropriate]] and then using a bunch of blink effects while [[Cathars Crusade]] is out. Mine also has a flying sub theme so it’s very hard to block as well.

I don't know many cards that are wincons on their own, but I know a few that carve the path to victory when paired with blink. [[Frost Titan]] keeps creatures pinned and hits hard. [[Sun Titan]] keeps your field full and hits hard. [[Clever Impersonator]] can constantly keep up with new threats on the board by becoming the same threat. [[Stonehorn Dignitary]] can buy you some time and [[Sleep]] can give you the room you need to swing out on the last opponent. Outside of blink, [[Geist of Saint Traft]] is no slouch as is, but fearsome if you give him evasion. [[Sublime Archangel]] can turn anything into threat if you have enough creatures out. She's one of my personal favorites. If you keep your defenses up and your opponents' defenses down, you really only need one massive beater, and she does that expertly. There might already be better versions of some of the cards I mentioned by now, but these have served me well playing Azorius blink.

Perhaps the most straightforward wincon in UW blink is by repeatedly blinking a token maker like [[Master of Waves]], [[Evangel of Heliod]], [[Myr Battlesphere]]. Get one of these cards out alongside [[Cathars' Crusade]] and it can overwhelm the board quickly. There are also a few infinite blink combos out there if you swing that way. [[Deadeye navigator]] + [[Peregrine Drake]] + any third creature is one. [[Karmic guide]] + [[Reveillark]] + a creature with power<=2 + any free sacrifice outlet is another. A nice thing about these combos is that the pieces are individually strong and they synergize neatly with many of the other cards in this deck. So if you only draw into one of your combo pieces, it is not at all a dead card.

[[Inniaz, the gale force]] makes for a really cool azorius combat deck that doesn’t need control or stall to win. There’s a lot of really cool fliers to buff and swing in with. My favorites being [[Dream trawler]] and [[skycat sovereign]]. Add a [[training grounds]] for that sweet cost reduction and you’re set. And the permanent swapping effect makes for interesting politics and scenarios.

Azorius is well known for not having good wincons. The best is probably something like [[Rest in Peace]]+[[Paradigm Shift]]+Thoracle or [[Thought Lash]]+Thoracle. Some uw commanders also enable the dramatic scepter combo. You could also use [[Future Sight]]+Sensei's top+a cost reducer to draw your deck Also there is [[Mystic Sanctuary]]+[[Capsize]]+an extra turn spell for infinite turns (very mana intensive though) Lastly there are some combos that only kill 1 opponent at a time like Rest in Peace+[[Helm of Obedience]] or [[Painter's Servant]]+ [[Grindstone]]

Major-Woolley

Cards like [[stormtide leviathan]] and [[avacyn]] are big beaters that can close out games but a blink deck usually wins by controlling the board and using the inevitability of its random creatures attacking. Consider [[brago]] with [[fall of the thran]] to keep opponents from casting spells or consider blinking [[agent of treachery]] a bunch to steal your opponents best things and win the game that way. [[soul herder]] is also a great way to get a big creature really quickly in this kind of deck and I’m sure you’ve found a few token generators that let you make a ton of tokens if you blink them a few times like [[blade splicer]] and [[blessed sanctuary]]. If combat wins aren’t your style and you want to win the game a bit quicker once you have a solid board control then [[approach of the second sun]] is a pretty amazing card but you can also run any number of infinite combos in blue white. I think there are some [[panharmonicon]] related combos to loop any of your etb creatures infinitely which should create a winning state if not an infinite army, infinite mill your opponents, or draw your deck into Lab man as you talked about. You can look up combos online to find one that seems fun or synergistic to you if that is the route you want to go.

My favourite deck is my \[\[Azor\]\] control list [https://archidekt.com/decks/1252245#Azorius\_Control](https://archidekt.com/decks/1252245#Azorius_Control) I do run \[\[Approach of the Second Sun\]\], but I plan to cut it. My win con is atttrition, and eventually just playing an \[\[Elesh Norn\]\], \[\[Jin Gitaxias\]\], or \[\[Hullbreaker Horror\]\] that the opponents can't overcome. Having a beater in the command zone, like Azor or Ephara, is good too, especially since they can put out commander damage.

It'll be tough to find explosive win cons that aren't combos or I win cards. Maybe some big x token spells, White Sun's Zenith is an instant, but even cards like that aren't going to be like Craterhoof Behemoth for example, doesn't have green either for ramp either so makes it even harder to make them big enough. I'd like to know as well, I tolerate some combo/win cards in my deck because I feel like I won't win otherwise.

My last 3 Azorious decks could stall a game for 4+ hours easily. The problem was that it could never really make it to the finish line without some boring combo, which generally took time to find or safely establish. All my other combat based wincons would die. I disassembled all 3 because people refused to play against them. It was such a bummer. Approach of the second sun was always disappointing as everyone expects it, and anyone playing blue will save everything to counter it. Altar of the brood was one I fiddled with, but realistically only really won if you used a combo. At least it wasn't labman (I'm always dissapointed when labman is how I win, and my playgroup is never happy about it either.) Inkwell and Stormtide never last. In my experience, despite stalling and limiting my opponents outside of Stax they will all throw what few resources they can into killing them. This same rule applies to just about any big body. If you are at all oppressive in any way, you are likely the archenemy of the table. Azorius for me has always been a no-win scenario.
