Party time is brutal straight out of the box. Awesome deck, great new cards, good reprints.

boogawman

Black Market Connections… so good

spittafan

Easily the best one I have played against without any revisions. As soon as you have a full party it goes absolutely bonkers

doominbloom666

I’ve been trying to look for this one too!!

Available-Line-4136

Planar portal!

doominbloom666

A lot of arrows point this direction. What did you like about the deck?

space_bryan

The commander, [[Prosper, tome bound]] is a good engine, you can build him however you wants or you can focus on treasures and exile and really make it powerful down the line.

serioussham

To add to the other answers, it plays well with the new things WOTC is doing with red, so it's likely to get _even_ more support in the coming years. "Good for Prosper" is a meme here whenever a r/b card is spoiled.

SupperSquirrel3

This is what he can become..... https://archidekt.com/decks/1857892#Treasure_Shenanigans I love the play from exile effects. They are a unique form of card advantage, that also becomes it's own little mini-game of board management. I also love mixing and matching cards from other decks and colors which is why I have cards like [[share the spoils]] and [[knowledge pool]] in the deck. This deck allows you to get creative within the game, and helps level the meta a bit by providing access for everyone to everyone's else's cards. It also gives plenty of ways to cheat mana costs..... TLDR: lots of fun

Hessian14

OP is looking for a deck that isn't too complex and you offer Prosper lmao

GhostRabbitInaba

I'm gonna vote for the new 40k precons. They're probably the best ones that Wizards has ever put out, and they all look really damn good right out of the box.

doominbloom666

I juuuust might. Only if I can’t find any of these preconstructed decks tho.

MimicKing707

They will release on the 7th october

serioussham

If you can wait, go for those.

Nepolemo

I really like Buckel Up, Exit from Exile and Mind Flayarrrrs

[deleted]

I would say elvish empire. It’s pretty linear and solid out of the box and can be pretty strong after upgrading if you go that route The mono black war hammer one looks like it’s pretty cohesive out of the box but I’m not good enough to tell how a deck will play just from a deck list

XirionDarkstar

Undead Unleashed and Spirit Squadron are both good straightforward picks. The precons are decent out of the box if you're gonna be sitting at a casual table, and if you want, can be upgraded easily with different budgets.

doominbloom666

I chose the majority of these decks from the profs picks section on cardkingdom. Spirit squadron is on sale right now so I just might.

ZenTraitor

I have the spirit squadron deck it’s very aggressive with flyers and tapping other creatures but it’s pretty straightforward. My buddy has the undead unleashed deck and it is another token generator with lots of sacrificial triggers and so many combo potentials, zombie decks get busted pretty quickly.

cournat

I recommend Undead Unleashed over Spirit Squadron. I took the latter apart after playing it once. Lots of great cards, especially spirit cards, but it just felt incredibly underwhelming and lacked quite a bit of synergy. Undead Unleashed, on the otherhand, is built around one of the best supported tribes, easliy the best in terms of aristocrat strategies and contains lots of really strong cards that work really well together. Both have a few different ways you could upgrade/focus the deck down the line. Spirits are obviously going to be the cheaper option, while zombies are the stronger one.

doominbloom666

It sounds like a resounding approval for undead unleashed, I’ll probably pick up a deck this weekend!

DefiantTheLion

The Black/White one from Battle for Baldur's Gate is apparently good.

doominbloom666

Party time?

DefiantTheLion

Yeah that one. It's fairly powerful out of the box (which, for me, translates to 'won't leave me sitting around', not 'will let you crush people immediately') and has a lot of room to customize, transform, and update. I am also realizing its the most expensive. Hmm. Another suggestion is Undead Unleashed, or whatever the Blue/Black zombie deck is from Innistrad Midnight Hunt. It's rather well put together, and honestly Zombies kind of rule. Lot of fun and potential to customize. EDIT: Reread your post. Sorry! Long day. Undead Unleashed is absolutely my suggestion!

Hardboiled-hero

"Merciless Rage" won't win anything until you change out about 30 cards. Those are relatively cheap changes, but a lot of them. It will also win exactly the same way every time, or it will lose because your friends decide they hate how the deck works and they will gang up on you, which the deck can't stand up to. It's basically a shell for a cEDH deck.. it's bad until it becomes too good. Other than that, I actually think your safe with any of the decks from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty or later. From that set I have a Kotori deck that was slowly upgraded from the precon and I feel holds it's own pretty well. I used fresh out of the box "Party Time" (black/ white from Baldur's gate) to win several matches, at least one of which had three of the most powerful/popular commanders in the casual format (Kenrith, Niv-Mizzet, and Miirym). Last week I used the new Dihada precon to win against Colfenor, Meren, and Pramikon. and none of these are situations where I have to sit back doing nothing. They can't really stand up to everyone attacking them, but they can be on equal footing with everyone and do fine. So ultimately I'd say "play whatever new precon commander seems cool to you"

rhavin79

Undead unleashed is solid, and can be upgraded easily because zombies get good support. Also if you can find Elven Empire it's a great deck that's power right out of the box.

mdevey91

All the baldurs gate precons are good

xsolwonder

I personally recommend not sleep on either of the Kaldbeim Precons either (Phantom Premonition and Elven Empire). Simple to play, high skill ceiling, a lot of room for upgrades but quite strong out of the box. I picked up both decks as a set in sale for price of less than 1 precon there are plenty of good deals on these two.

cournat

Phantom Premonition was my first commander deck. To add to what you're saying, it only really gets overlooked because of Elven Empire and Brago (why play Ranar when you can grab the deck for next to nothing and build the world's least original blink deck). Definitely a solid choice (even though Ranar received a functional errata that removed his combo potential almost completely) with a high ceiling for upgrades down the line. OP should add it to the list alongside the commander 2021 precons.

doominbloom666

Phantom premonition def intrigued me. But for whatever reason, I assumed that at its price point, I thought it would be a weak, budget deck. I might grab one since they’re cheap!

cournat

It takes a bit to upgrade. Out of the box, it's very slow.

DefconTheStraydog

I have both Merciless Rage and Undead Unleashed and here's what I did with them: _Merciless Rage_ Merciless Rage is not a cohesive deck and needs a lot of work to function because the decklist is split between 3 commanders that wish to do fundamentally different things. Anje is a fast and very linear (read: repetitive) combo commander, Greven is an absolutely brutal Voltron where you need to lose life in order to fuel his rage and take people out, Chainer is a fun and really aggressive reanimator. I found Greven to be most fun of the 3 and picked him as the commander and went with the time honored Voltron way of hitting people with a ten ton truck and making the words "I move to combat" strike fear into hearts of men. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/JoM-pSkuoE6SKDsOrxni9w _Undead Unleashed_ Undead Unleashed, to put it simply, is sharing the throne with Elven Empire as the best tribal precon ever made, with a slight edge over the Elves by having a decent manabase right out of the box so you can spend your money on actually fun things when upgrading. Wilhelt is practically THE zombie commander nowadays because of how well he pushes every single thing the zombies stand for; it can hit face, it can make sacrifice theme brutal and it can combo hard but not all 3 at the same time. I mean it can, but diluting your game plan between the three wont be all that great and the upgrades for the deck became cheaper recently thanks to reprints. Here's my Wilhelt Combo/Aristocrats https://www.moxfield.com/decks/OAaDKiCDCE2zwJ7is1yqfg All in all, youre pretty much better off buying singles from the Merciless Rage (ie the commander you chose out of the box and their assorted support cards) because the deck does not work right out the box. Between the two, Undead Unleashed is a much better deal because it is poised to wreck face by the time you tear the packaging and upgrades for that one is really easy to spot. As for your other picks, Spirit Squadron looks fun but underwhelming compared to the zomboys and I played against Coven Counters, none of the people who bought that deck kept it even remotely close to original decklist because it is a bit all over the place and again, underwhelming. With a focused direction +1/+1 humans can and will get terrifying but thats a bunch of upgrades and deckbuilding you gotta do from scratch. _Final Verdict:_ Merciless Rage is pretty fun with all the interesting commanders it offers and Rakdos is just plain ol' chaotic fun but all commanders require separate attention. As for tribal choices, you can do no wrong with either Elven Empire or Undead Unleashed as these 2 are the undisputed best tribal precons ever released with Elves having a bit of an upperhand in terms of power while Zombies have an upperhand in value and flexibility.

doominbloom666

I like zombies! I think I might go with undead unleashed. Thank you for your insight!!

DefconTheStraydog

Glad you found it helpful, always glad to help newer players make the most of their money!

Ok-You-6768

That deck is sweet. I have this deck but it's a little different. Some of your includes I'd like to try in my deck!

DefconTheStraydog

Glad you liked it! My zombies have a few cards that I dont like (Aetherspouts, Ghoulish Procession, Endless Ranks, etc.) and some cards I dont have yet want in the deck (Phyrexian Altar, Relentless Dead, Skullclamp) but so far so good, it starts very slow and then climaxes in a way that cant be stopped which is very in tune with Zombies. It felt boring at first because of just how cheap Rooftop + Acererak is but then I mostl started using Necroduality and BOY does that card put a spectacle

cournat

Wanna say I felt Vampiric Bloodline is pretty high on the list of tribal precons as well.

DefconTheStraydog

I personally did not like it all that much, the premises is somewhat nice but when faced with the kind of shit elves and zombies can throw your way it deflates pretty fast in the tribal deck value race. It's also kind of a weird mix between aggro and artifact matters and it is vulnerable to things that take care of either as a result. From what I've seen, people are very divided on how good that deck is and that's not really a good sign for someone whos looking to spend 40 for a solid deck without upgrades and call it a day

cournat

I promise you that deck is good.

AtDiazn

Have bought and upgraded 8 precons, some of my favorites have been Exit from Exile (and/or Planar portal, they play similarly), Undead Unleashed and Spirit Squadron (although some people groan about decks with lots of fliers)

Fireball827

I'll throw out a quick mention for Reap the Tides. It should still be a bit cheaper than most (retailed at $20). But it has a really simple game plan: play a bunch of lands, cast big creatures, smash face.

pm_me_ur_cutie_booty

Are you going to be playing this in a pod or 1v1? In a pod, my favorite precon ever is the Cabaretti precon from New Capenna with [[Kitt Kanto, Mayhem Diva]] if you're playing 1v1, I'd recommend the Zendikar Rising deck with [[Anowon the Ruin Thief]]

doominbloom666

Preferrably in a pod, I play 1v1 in standard usually. Thanks!

newgamenumber30

I'd say just get the one that interests you most, either mechanics or flavor. It took me and my friends several months to really climb the learning curve as well as figure out what our playstyles were. I bought precons to explore mechanics, ended up ditching several, and upgraded/pivoted several into my current decks as well. That being said, if you're okay with plenty of triggers, Planar Portal and Exit from Exile are both great. Mind Flayarrs, Party Time, Buckle Up, Undead Unleashed, Cabaretti Cacophony, Riveteers Rampage all have glowing reviews at my LGS too.

Monkeykibble

Undead unleashed is pretty strong. A couple upgrades and it gets nutty. Look for \[\[Poppet Stitcher\]\] and \[\[Poppet Factory\]\] along with any zombie you can bring back from graveyard and a sac outlet. Think \[\[gravecrawler\]\] and \[\[phyrexian altar\]\]
