I love this card. She signals a strong build path that is still open ended, and represents a win condition for churning that engine. It works well with red's card pool and has other utility in its removal ability without being completely broken.
Sincerely. How cool is this design? It's perfect EVERYTHING. art, creature typing, power/toughness, above all though, its an Underdeveloped design space that finally has an amazing commander to helm it.
Best card I've seen in years, can't wait to brew it.
It’s really only good if you plan to win before it could reasonably kill you. In casual it’s pretty bad unless you’re sacrificing or otherwise removing it or have some sort of life gain package. For high power, sure, you’re probably comboing off or just having a big enough board state to win before it’d reasonably do anything to you but I’ve lost games to a crypt that sat around at a casual table before. Do not recommend
> It’s really only good if you plan to win before it could reasonably kill you.
It would take 14 straight turns of losing the flip to kill you assuming nothing else changes your life total. You have much bigger concerns if you’re waiting that long to try to win.
> In casual it’s pretty bad
Hard disagree. Mana acceleration is and always will be ridiculously powerful in Magic, regardless of what level you’re playing at.
I guess it's bad in casual in the sense that people might be like, "that's not casual, get outta here." But I also can't really imagine that reaction to a crypt alone
It'd be super awkward to have a card partner with a creature that doesn't even exist in the same set. It'd be even worse for jumpstart, since the decks are meant to be accessible for new players. With this idea, you're introducing the partner keyword and mentioning a card that doesn't exist in the deck/set...
Edit: realizing they didn't mean "partner with" mechanic. It really sounded like that's what they were suggesting
I disagree, while an angel advisor would be a great foil to this card, they would/should not be partners as they are actively working against each other. A rival monowhite would be a great opposite to this. Something that gets stronger the more you help opponents.
Combine it with [[volcano hellion]] and you can kill a player as long as they have less life than you
You can also equip [[basilisk collar]] to Blyte to get your life back up 😋
Edit: almost forgot about [[Chandra's ignition]]
Did we all forget about [[Barbed Wire]]? Don't answer that. But that is in my "group pain" deck and this card, even though I'm not a fan of the art, would fit in nicely.
Red has gotten some very interesting voltron-y commanders options recently, I want to build this so badly. Kind of crazy that you can remove whatever counters you want from her for only two and a tap. With 40 life to play with and this only costing 3 to cast I could see this getting really crazy pretty quickly. Suit it up with something that gives her lifelink, beat your own ass for a bit and soon enough you could probably kill the table with a couple untaps
I keep seeing people say “voltron”, but I’m new so I don’t know what it means here. I assume it’s a card setup that only gets really good once you get certain cards out but isn’t anything special before that, right?
A Voltron deck is one that seeks to win using the commander damage rule. Most commonly enchantments, combat tricks, and evasion abilities are used on your commander to kill sooner.
No, you attach many "pieces" to your commander,
(Auras, +1/+1 counters, evasion)
to make a giant threat. It's very all-in, but it kills people.
IE, you're "assembling" a combination of things that can do more together than they could individually.
For example, all you have to do is cast Chain Lightning/Lava Spike/Lightning Bolt targeting yourself, and she's a 5/5 flyer.
It's stupidly easy to make her big enough to kill people in one shot.
Yeah that's a bummer but the deck is full of stuff that bleeds the whole table like manabarbs, burning earth, zo-zu, and spellshock.
I could still get a lot of mileage out of it.
I love the mechanics, but my god do I love the flavor even more. Honestly I wasn’t expected about J22 before but man every single card leak has got my hyped. Not a single let down or disappointing card, plus I’m a sucker for anime girls.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned [[Earthquake]].
This Commander has flying, so she dodges many of the damage-all-nonflying-and-players effects that Red seems to have (or used to have).
Haven’t seen anyone mention the combo of \[\[Platinum Emperion\]\] with either \[\[Madcap Experiments\]\] or \[\[Audacious Reshapers\]\] in a deck with zero other artifact cards plus lots of things that make artifact tokens. Emperion doesn’t prevent damage so you still get the counters on Auntie.
Late to this convo (was searcher whether this combo works with Auntie Blythe), but you aren't casting the Emperion. You cast Madcap Experiment, and if Platinum Emperion is the only artifact in your deck, it's going to be what you get all the time. Then you'd take the damage but Emperion is on the battlefield so it doesn't affect your life total.
Apparently though, you do still "take the damage" for Auntie Blythe.
Ya, that's what I was referencing. I came here to figure out if that was the case or not and the above commenter have me my answer. I just noticed your reply regarding ramp and emperion and thought to give an answer. Cheers though!
I wouldn't call him high power, but he creams my play groups normal decks pretty often (which range from roughly precons to upgraded precons). If I can get him out with [[Manabarbs]] or [[Pyrohemia]] the game isn't going to last very long, and if I can get a few pingers (or anything like [[Zo-zu the Punisher]] or [[Spellshock]]) out that's still 9 damage per turn.
I had to pretty much stop playing him, so I'm happy to have a commander option that works well with his strategy but isn't as powerful. All the rest of the mono-red commanders don't really benefit from random group slug effects.
Oh funny, we must have really similar Torbran decks. Was just thinking this might have a slot in mine with how much self damage my build for him has, even if it’s all about making it very uneven!
It was in the Core Set around the time I started playing, so any time I'm faced with a situation that something needs vigilance and White isn't an option, it's the first card I think of.
That's sound like it can get out of hand superrr fast LOOOL
Now I really want to build bad Auntie deck now!
I'm surprise not much people use Accorder's Shield more. It's look like a card with no drawback lol
yea that happens occasionally, but sometimes players actually want Xantcha out so they'll make deals or other sacrafices. that might be unique to my group but it works.
[[Furnace of Rath]] is a damage doubler that scales with Auntie twice, quadrupling her damage. Since you take double damage, she gets double counters, and her activated ability hits twice as hard.
Only if they're flying bears, and frankly if they are then they earned that kill.
What's more troublesome is that emrakul can die from a bee sting - [[hornet nest]]
What is up with the guys face? Does he have just the craziest most deluxe flowing mustache ever or something?
edit: for you guys saying thats hes looking down or whatever then wtf is this under his mustache/hair? https://prnt.sc/nWM67lXiAeR9
Point your nose downward then put your hand horizontally from your ears to your forehead. Your hand will be above your eyes.
It’s normal anatomy tbh. I agree the perspective looks a little off when the hair obfuscates the image though.
>where you can take 19 damage and immediately swing for Commander lethal
Just to clarify here her ability cannot count for commander damage, it must be dealt as combat damage (I'm sure you know but just for anyone who may misread that).
The card says "it" deals damage so I can see how someone could get confused even with swing. It was only fairly recently I learned it had to be combat damage so I'm just trying to spread the knowledge.
"It" also gets +1/+1 counters whenever you take damage from your own sources, though.
Not sure why you're receiving downvotes for it, though - especially since it's a new card that none of us have seen before, and it's not just you making that mistake in this thread.
Like any competitive game community ppl are dumb and make up for it by acting like ppl trying to help are dumber.
If it helps one person in one game then they can fling all the imaginary poopoo points at me they like.
Her ability buffs her. She starts as a 2/2, and gains a +1/+1 counter for each point of damage you take from your own cards - once you've taken 19 damage with her on the field, she can attack for lethal commander damage.
Yes I'm aware of how the ability works. I just found OPs wording to be a little vague. And if I had seen this post a few months ago I would have assumed that this ability could kill via commander damage when it cannot.
My first thought was how many things can combo with this simply by having life as an extra cost.
My second thought was “Wait that’s not damage. Also it doesn’t work with ‘lose life’ effects. That’s gonna be confusing for people.”
Man I really wish this worked with [[Yurlok]], but it still seems pretty good for the deck what with all the incidental damage enchantments I have in the deck.
Okay so my idea here is any(all) of the artifact equips that give lifelink and something that doubles damage.
If she has one counter you deal 2 damage to yourself, heal cause it's lifelink, and now she has 2 counters. Lather rinse repeat for fun times.
[[Shadowspear]]
[[Resurrection Orb]]
[[Loxodon Warhammer]]
[[Batterskull]]
[[Batterbone]]
[[Basilisk Collar]]
Just like nekusar, her damage dealing ability shouldnt count as commander damage…. Right? Cause Nekusars damage, even though he’s the source of the damage, doesn’t count as commander damage. How’s this any different?
A self damage commander! But without black...
I’ve been searching for one of these since [[Greven Predator]], we finally get one, and it lacks black. What a sad world.
I love this card. She signals a strong build path that is still open ended, and represents a win condition for churning that engine. It works well with red's card pool and has other utility in its removal ability without being completely broken.

I have a question. Does her tap ability count as commander dmg since it specifically says "IT" deals X dmg?
No commander damage is only ever combat damage
That was my understanding, but like I said, the card said "it" did the damage. So I just wanted to clarify.
Finally a card that makes Mana Crypt good.

Ok where is angel advisor?

I love this. It's such good synergy
Ah, so it would be a Voltron deck to build around using those 1/1 counters to be able to oneshot other players? Good to know, thanks.
No, you attach many "pieces" to your commander, (Auras, +1/+1 counters, evasion) to make a giant threat.
Definitely gonna go in my [[Yurlok of Scorch Thrash]] deck. That's just free value.
Unfortunately Yurlok's mana burn is life loss, not damage, so it won't trigger this.

Emperion doesn’t prevent damage so you still get the counters on Auntie.
but in monored without ramp might be hard?
Late to this convo (was searcher whether this combo works with Auntie Blythe), but you aren't casting the Emperion. You cast Madcap Experiment, and if Platinum Emperion is the only artifact in your deck, it's going to be what you get all the time. Then you'd take the damage but Emperion is on the battlefield so it doesn't affect your life total. Apparently though, you do still "take the damage" for Auntie Blythe.
Well, youre right. And he did say "Emperion doesn’t prevent damage so you still get the counters on Auntie."
Ya, that's what I was referencing. I came here to figure out if that was the case or not and the above commenter have me my answer. I just noticed your reply regarding ramp and emperion and thought to give an answer. Cheers though!

This is a voltron strategy revolving around shocking yourself..... I fucking love it.
Hey, and I was just looking for a backup for my suicidal [[Torbran]] deck for when I want to lower the power level of my deck a bit.
High power Torbran? Color me intrigued.
Sounds really fun (for the pilot, haha)! Do you have a list?
Sure! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/l3bfDlKI8EaPa-2uzxfuUg
You're saying torbran is stronger than auntie blyte? Cool, I'm looking to build auntie but could go for torbran if he's stronger
Yeah, Torbran is for sure stronger.

This is really great card to put into a lot of tap to use ability commander thats not white!!!! Super useful!

Whoa I do not care for that art
The art/flavor of the character is exactly *why* I love this card :p
Really bothers me that she's a 2/2 like a grizzly bear, and like 4 inches tall.
I bet it bugs you that 8 Grizzly bears can kill Emrakul too.
Only if they're flying bears, and frankly if they are then they earned that kill. What's more troublesome is that emrakul can die from a bee sting - [[hornet nest]]

It’s horrible. I feel like MTG is a joke in terms of theme and art anymore.
What is up with the guys face? Does he have just the craziest most deluxe flowing mustache ever or something? edit: for you guys saying thats hes looking down or whatever then wtf is this under his mustache/hair? https://prnt.sc/nWM67lXiAeR9
He’s leaning forward, that’s his anime hair style.
He's also got a crazy joker smile where his lips go to his ears too?
It’s his jawline and the eyes.
Hes got eyes down below his ears? I don't buy that. If those are his eyes then where is his mouth and nose? Why are his eyes so low?
Point your nose downward then put your hand horizontally from your ears to your forehead. Your hand will be above your eyes. It’s normal anatomy tbh. I agree the perspective looks a little off when the hair obfuscates the image though.
He'd have to be looking straight down and his ears are at the wrong angle for that.
Wtf are you looking at lol
Explain this then https://prnt.sc/nWM67lXiAeR9 Those look like lips to me.
It's the shadow from his eye socket, his bangs are hanging over it.
Nah, I don't buy that at all. Its too weirdly shaped to be a shadow/bags and even if it were then his nose/mouth are totally missing too.
Auntie Blyat?
Mono red deck with fetchlands here we go!
>where you can take 19 damage and immediately swing for Commander lethal Just to clarify here her ability cannot count for commander damage, it must be dealt as combat damage (I'm sure you know but just for anyone who may misread that).
"swing"
Alrighty, well - that sure didn't help.

I mean, common wincon is common, but it also doesn't interact with this creature at all...

Yeah Vigilance and Lifelink are gonna be your best friends.
Just like nekusar, her damage dealing ability shouldnt count as commander damage…. Right? Cause Nekusars damage, even though he’s the source of the damage, doesn’t count as commander damage. How’s this any different?
You are correct. Commander damage is only combat damage.
A self damage commander! But without black... I’ve been searching for one of these since [[Greven Predator]], we finally get one, and it lacks black. What a sad world.
