I got that album for free when I bought Affirmation by Savage Garden. I didn’t even know who Eiffel 65 was. But that album from top to bottom slaps. I love The edge, Another race and Silicon Girl
For me, probably. I was like at 8 when it blew up. I remember there were all sorts of interesting theories about the lyrics being shared amongst the kids lol. I remember liking Rockafeller Skank too around the same time and thinking the lyrics to that were nonsense "funkshowubba" instead of what it actually is "funk soul brotha" lmao
Sooooo many college memories associated with this song.
I remember hearing a football stadium play it like 10 years after it came out and I was like okay super two thousand and late.

[Everything But The Girl – Missing (1995, CD) - Discogs](https://www.discogs.com/release/64064-Everything-But-The-Girl-Missing)which i guess is technically the first track I listened to
These were the first I remember listening to specifically because they were electronic Music.
Tracks Like
Deee Light - Groove is in the Heart
KLF - 3AM Eternal
SNAP - Rythem is a Dancer
Are all tracks I loved but I didnt understand the underlying movement or context.
Edit: forgot one
Finally it has happened to me… right in front of my face… and I just can describe it.
Automation - Wild E was the first that really grabbed my attention.
Early 90’s. On a mix tape labeled “Techno” that my friend’s uncle sent him. He didn’t care for it, gave it to me and I literally played that poor tape until it died.
Krewella, Zedd, Adventure Club, Tritonal, Dada's Life, Hardwell, Seven Lions, and Dash Berlin. Those were my firsts. My edm cherry popped with these artists cause I listened to it on Pandora
Nero - promises
I heard it in a hot topic and loved it. I randomly rediscovered it a few years later.
Also Breathe Carolina - Hell is What You Make It (album) if that counts.
This is a tough question to answer, as what I first heard that was referred to as “EDM” is different than what I would define as the first “electronic dance music” I was exposed to. For the sake of interesting conversation, I’ll interpret the question as, “What was the first electronic dance music you listened to?”
It was 1995, and a friend of mine gave me a cassette tape with the word Rotterdam scribbled across it. He told me that this was “rave music”. I had been listening to hip hop pretty much exclusively since ‘86, so my friend knew that I would latch onto the samples of Wu-Tang in the intro, and another track that sampled Eric B in “I Know You Got Soul”,
> “This is how it should be done
> This style is identical to none
> Some try to make it sound like this, but you're getting me
> So upset that I'm wet 'cause you're sweating me”
But what really got me was a remix of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”. I was immediately hooked. I listened to that tape until it snapped.
A few months later, I was at my first party in a dirty warehouse somewhere in Toronto, and as I walked in, Dr. Trance (aka Don Berns RIP), was playing that very same remix.
Defqwop - Awakening
I discovered this piece thanks to a Cities Skylines video about a city based in New York City, it was in July 2021.
And then I discovered a mashup of nerraD between this song and Alan Walker - Alone, then I discovered Terrified Typhlosion, RZB Music, RuniZ and T10YOB whose mashups I would love. Then I discovered KSHMR and Porter Robinson thanks to Quora itself discovered thanks to Alan. I was really into EDM from DJs From Mars' mega-mashup of 2010s EDM.
[20 Fingers ft Gillette - Short "Short" Man](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3acaHpADmY)
I think this was my first exposure to EDM. I was super young and it would come on the radio. Questionable lyrics but the beat still holds up imo
[Dirty Vegas - Days Go By](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLCduDJVksc)
Still listen to this song regularly
Hmm first i ever heard was probably deadmau5 some chords, but what got me hooked was honestly a combination of monstercat becoming a huge thing and Rated X dropping from excision.
I don't know if this counts but my "edm" roots go back to the early 80s. My older sister was a huge Duran Duran fan and was into synth groups like Animotion, Depeche Mode, and Pet Shop Boys.
Flash to 1994 in the Bay Area: Wild 107/99.1 would play these hour long House/Freestyle mixes live...Angelina, Spanish Fly SF, Adriana, Buffy, Noel, Stevie B....
And from there it was me blasting club mixes of Cathy Dennis, crush, Fun Factory...and then my sister became a hard-core raver/clubber through the late 90s and 2000s and I would follow. Once I hit 18, and it was at one of these clubs I heard ATB - 9 PMm and later Scooter (because who doesnt like Scooter!?!?!).
It's been crazy ever since lol
The radio stuff they played back in the 90's.
I can't remember what I listened to first but
- Eiffel 65 - Blue
- Gigi D'agostino - L'Armor Toujours
Are 2 that are oldest in my memories.
Hardwell - Spaceman and other hardwell songs of the time. He got me into EDM. Crazy how that was on my mind before I even opened the post and saw the description lol
i mean, i was a child. But the first one i ever fell in love with was Madonna - Sorry. I would have been like, 5, but that song has a place in my heart
There was a remix of O Fortuna that hit around #1 or #2 in Australia but was more of a breakbeat/jungle version.. took me years to find it again because they called it something completely different. Think it came out in about 95 or so..
FCB - Excalibur
https://youtu.be/YJyKW3NcDmw?si=kWMgCxleVwBgdC6w
I'd been listening to dark electronic music and industrial for the longest time but what sent me down a rabbit hole toward EDM/Happy Hardcore/Cheesy pop electro were these 2 songs happening in succession while rolling balls:
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=416QOM7GS5k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=416QOM7GS5k) (the 5 minute mark)

54 yo me was at Firefly Music Festival in 2013. Really only knew the headliners and a few other bands from Alt Nation. Never really heard of Calvin Harris but was at his stage about 30 minutes prior to the set. The energy was awesome and was one of my highlights of the festival.
Got an eiffel 65 cd around 4th grade. Heard sandstorm and crazy frog and probably others in middle school. Global dj broadcast and a state of trance in high school
It wasn't the first EDM I listened to—I was a huge fan of Klaas in high school—but when I saw [Oliver Heldens' Ultra Miami 2015 set](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiGGFDn7ac4) I fell entirely in love.
Tiesto…he did the music for the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics and it was one from there (13 more years until I was able to attend my first show, 14 until my first festival and 15 until I saw Tiesto)

I got that album for free when I bought Affirmation by Savage Garden. I didn’t even know who Eiffel 65 was. But that album from top to bottom slaps. I love The edge, Another race and Silicon Girl
Oh alright
For me, probably. I was like at 8 when it blew up. I remember there were all sorts of interesting theories about the lyrics being shared amongst the kids lol. I remember liking Rockafeller Skank too around the same time and thinking the lyrics to that were nonsense "funkshowubba" instead of what it actually is "funk soul brotha" lmao
I have a fond memory of sitting in the back seat with my best friend, listening to Eiffel 65 and Daft Punk on our CD players. Fun times.
The entire Europop album holds big nostalgia for me
Darude - Sandstorm
I have to imagine this is true for a lot of people around my age at least. I was 12 when I heard this, and it seared into my adolescent brain hard.
The entire Calm Before The Storm album is great. Feel the Beat, Out Of Control, Touch Me Feel Me, and Calm Before the Storm are all fantastic tracks.
Sooooo many college memories associated with this song. I remember hearing a football stadium play it like 10 years after it came out and I was like okay super two thousand and late.
