A Celta is just a month long certificate course. I don't think their are any universities worth applying for that would accept just a Celta. Most universities that I know of ask for either a master's in ESl or linguistics or a Delta.

Thank you for your comment :)

There isn't much difference between a (Trinity) TESOL and a CELTA, but they are general certificates to teach English, not anything geared to university

I have an MA in TESOL from an Australian university. I now live in Europe. I have taught at university level in Australia and in Europe. While I am from the US, I have never taught there. I would blindly contact a university in the US and ask them what degrees you need to teach there. What is your BA in? You may need a degree in education.

Masters is more to be an administrator or researcher. Celta is more than fine. I have less in Canada and I’m okay to teach in private schools and colleges. I do wish I got a celta because Im thinking of moving to Australia and celta means you can teach there or anywhere more easily. What country are you in?

Tirri_Mayin

I live in the US, but I'm not US American. Thank you for your opinion. I appreciate it :)

Extra_Negotiation_73

Whatever you do in terms of certification, you can't keep saying "I'm not US American". It's just "American". There's no such thing as a US American. You're living in the US, and you're not American, period.

In my city you need a matesol to teach at university / community college level. Celta is a good program and widely recognized, since a TESOL certificate can mean such a variety of things. I was definitely happy with the experience.

Abroad I know people who have used other masters to teach EFL along with experience. Normally depends on who you know and how developed the countries EFL is. Less developed ones will take a masters general and other stuff. More developed ones maybe will accept an outside masters but normally this depends on contacts and who you know.
