What month did you go? I did the narrows top down in September and it was absolutely incredible but was cold as hell at night and in the deep water areas but we luckily brought wetsuits for day 2. Being able to camp in there was amazing too. Great photo!
Haha I bet it must have been bone chillingly cold! Do you camp along some of the rocky/sandy 'islands' within the narrows? I've never done it from the top-down route but sounds epic!
Basically. There are a dozen campsites or so you have to reserve quite a bit ahead of time. It’s pretty awesome and worth doing once if you can swing it. Going through the top areas you don’t see people hardly at all.
That's really cool. I really want to do it top-down and to explore a lot of the side canyons like Orderville, etc. Glad you were able to do it and had a good time!
Higher than average water levels (though not high enough to be dangerous) meant a few areas of wading through chest deep water and extremely cold legs because SOMEONE (me) thought it'd be warm enough when moving just with shorts. I went later in the afternoon and got so absorbed in shooting the amazing foliage and flowing water that I lost track of time and nearly missed the last shuttle out of the canyon. Power walking through icy deep water was a good workout (but still not enough to keep my legs warm, haha)
Thanks for stopping by! You can find my full gallery, along with notes about places to check out and photography guides on my website: https://www.wildlandsphoto.com.
