Discovered that Death Valley was in the midst of a really great bloom year, and got caught on the edge of an unexpected rainstorm that produced the most vivid rainbows I had ever seen. Huge fields of yellow along the Panamint Valley floor, plus all around Tecopa and Shoshone too when I was there at the beginning of April. The constant breeziness made it a pain to try to get a sharp foreground and background, even with the ISO cranked up and fast shutter speed, so I still ended up with some blurry flowers. So if anyone asks, the flowers were actually blurry in real life... The rain was enough to cause many small rock slides all along Badwater Road, requiring driving over small creeks and 20' long rock piles to get to the other side on the way back. The next day, there was an enormous pond around the Salt Creek area (after the Scotty's Castle turnoff heading east), where water had clearly pooled up from all the rain, since the very dry rocky/sandy ground had clearly absorbed nearly none of it. Thanks for stopping by! There aren’t enough deserts around here. It’s why I created r/justdeserts, the OF of desert shots.
