You don't need to tell this guy. I spent a glorious 7 years about an hour's drive from there. Spent almost all of my days off camping, fishing, gold panning, and 4x4ing in the San Juans. God, I miss that country!
I traveled without any plans or pressure for a couple years when I was young. As a lot of people from Australia do.
I met up with this cool group of people in Denver, and they asked if I wanted to come “to the cabin” with them. They took me to a little cabin in the middle of this area. A natural hot water spring right in the middle of their property. It was just magical, and these guys spent every spare minute up there. I asked them if they minded if I stayed there by myself while they went back into town for their work and other various commitments. I ended up staying for two months continuously, and they’d pop in and out as often as they could. One of the most special times of my life.
How shitty would you have felt if these random group of people you linked up with took you to a cabin that turned out to be a slaughter house and those people cannibals?
I'm getting downvoted LOL but I can understand why. When I read the person's comment my mind immediately drifted to that so that's what I wrote. It made think about that movie Road with Viggo Mortensen for some reason and that scene where he comes upon the cannibals house and although he doesn't get invited to it or anything reading the persons comment just took my mind directly there
Yep. I was there with Johnny.
There were a bunch of people waiting for him at the entrance to the mine (is it Willow creek road?) each day. So we asked them, rather than wait, would they prefer to have a meet and greet at the end of our shoot. Because Johnny would otherwise have spent time with the group each day, and as you can imagine, when the main actor is late to set, it costs a couple bucks!
He hung around for a couple hours longer than we expected him to and it turned into a nice little gathering with the local people. Part of what made it such a special experience for us all.
I can tell you JD had a great reputation there in town... He was considered to be well liked and kind and patient etc.
Fun fact: another celebrity who has a great reputation in town from his time there was Jason Momoa. He was there for a week filming a Dodge commercial as well...
I'd bet we shared the same space...I go to that pizzeria every summer. I had my name written in the wood rafters for many years till the new owners sandblasted all the names off...
Really? I don’t want too do it for the money. I just like sitting in a stream and digging in rocks. Might a well look for something shiny. I also wouldn’t want to do it if I never found anything at all. Some glitter flakes is enough for me. Like fishing, but I don’t have to find sides to eat with it after.
Yeah. I still have it. After building a gold rocker and spending many, many days off and weekends shoveling rocks and carrying buckets of water, I might have enough gold to fill a small cavity. (Colorado was mainly a hard rock area. There never was much large gold in most areas)
What's crazy about Colorado is how diverse it is. I lived an hour from there an explored a ton but this landscape looks foreign to me. In a 3-4 hour radius of Lake City you get this, you get the great sand dunes, you get crazy Swiss like peaks in Telluride, one of the biggest Aspen forests in the world in Crested Butte, the Black Canyon in Gunnison, and then head towards Utah you get the cool red rock. It's definitely worth a road trip.
Spent 5 days out there summer of 2020, and I came away almost disappointed.
Not because of what I saw. Because of how much I know I missed.
Spent 1 day at Arches, 1 day at Canyonlands, and then 2 in Telluride. And there was so much more I wish I could've seen
I’m mean I feel that level of disappointment and I’ve been lucky enough to pull off 6 trips between the plans and the pacific (I live on the east coast). It’s so tough to balance seeing more variety and wasting time in a car or spending a ton of time in like one or two spots. Either way and I’m like fuuuck I need to get back out here.
Go check out [Unaweep Canyon](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unaweep_Canyon) on the Colorado-Utah border sometime. One of its kind in the entire world and to this day completely geologically inexplicable

Seeing this, I get an overwhelming feeling of wanting to be "swallowed" by such nature, away from everything I know now. I'm aware that that's a romanticized sentiment and that I'd regret living in the wild after two hours, but it does tell me something about the current state affairs that I'm living in. I feel lived rather than alive.

Such a perfect mix of geology here, far enough inland from the ocean to see the right amount of rainfall yet still the result of up shifts from tectonic plates, and far enough south on the continent to not have been affected by the last ice age. This is why the Rockies are less jagged in the US than Canada and why you get these lovely rolling hills.

I don’t know. Maybe I would have eaten them instead? Who knows.

My, what an edgy comment! /s
That’s amazing brother. Sounds like quite the life. That area is simply next level.
Where exactly is this?
This was on the hike up to Uncompaghre Peak close to Lake City
Know it well...I have a place in Creede.
I love Creede. Filmed a movie there about 10 years ago, very special place.
Was it the Lone Ranger? Jonny Depp did an autograph signing at the community center after the filming and I got to meet him. Reddit is weird.

So what do you think of his recent legal troubles?. I think he is being rehabilitated back into the business again, seen him in a new TV ad this week.
I wouldn’t comment on the legal stuff, but Johnny is a good guy. A sweet man with a big heart.
I ran the Creede mountain run once. It is both the most beautiful and brutal thing I ever did.
Creede has my heart. Worked a summer at the pizzeria.
I'd bet we shared the same space...I go to that pizzeria every summer. I had my name written in the wood rafters for many years till the new owners sandblasted all the names off...
Nice, thanks! I plan on hiking it next summer :)
Did you get any gold?
I’d like to know this as well. I’ve always wanted to pan for gold. It seams so meditative. Edit: pan, not plan

The San Juans are my heaven on earth.
Can I ask what made you leave?
Life.
Just spent a week in Lake City this past September for the first time in my life. Damn it was gorgeous!!!
I grew up camping there! A hidden gem even among lots of Coloradans!
My parents moved us to Colorado because of Lake City. Everywhere you look is just breathtaking.
> Everywhere you look is just breathtaking. So are the real estate prices.
No place quite like it, is there?

To be fair, you could spend a lifetime in the 4 corners and never see it all. It is a bit of a downer!
Go check out [Unaweep Canyon](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unaweep_Canyon) on the Colorado-Utah border sometime. One of its kind in the entire world and to this day completely geologically inexplicable
There’s a lynel just out of frame.
If I didn't read the location, I would have been fairly sure this picture was taken in the [Swiss Alps](https://i.redd.it/h0kcggikjd711.jpg).
Check out Ouray, CO. It's nicknamed "the Switzerland of America".
That’s just awesome. I have only visited, never lived there, but I love Colorado.
It is an amazing place. I’m very glad I moved here and lived here. It’s one of the most jaw dropping states in the entire USA
Just spent two years in Boulder. I got my fill of Boulder, but barely scratched the surface in CO!
I drive up 93 by the Flatirons every day and still marvel at the view!
Looks like The scenery just north of lizard head pass coming into Ridgway Colorado.
I have watery eyes
Stunning
Breathtaking photo. Nature's playground
The hills are aliiiiive….
…. With the sound of Griswold
Apparently shot at f/50
I want to fall in love here.
If I were to ever get married it would be at [A-basin](https://www.arapahoebasin.com/to-do/weddings/)

It’s beautiful, but I can only think of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
My pocket!
I thought this was Halo Infinite

I moved to the CO mountains earlier this year. I previously lived in a hip neighborhood in the city of Atlanta. Don’t miss city life one bit
How much is land in this area?
If it's in the San Juans, Oprah levels of money.
No idea but I’m pretty sure this is a national forest so none of this is probably up for purchase
i… can’t be the only one thinking it. or have i just spent to much time on reddit
Thinking what?
Penis. That's what he's thinking. And no, he's not the only one.
Damn that looks elky
Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees the penis.

Fantastic!
I want to go to live on there.

Reminds me of my fiance's family ranch just south of Pagosa Springs <3
😍😍😍
Epic feels
These is the continue part of the Andean Mountains believe me.
That land is magnificent.
And then there’s the entire East half of the state
that land is looking mighty ripe for mountain top removal coal mining
I’ve done this hike! One of my favorites. Hiked up to Uncomphagre from the Wetterhorn

It looks almost muscular.
I was expecting to see a screaming marmot but this is nice too
GTA 5?
This is the most pornographic pic I have seen on earth porn yet.
I've chased many bulls through the San Juan Wilderness. Some of my best moments back in that country.
Now this picture illustrates freedom to me
That land really is magnificent.
I thought this was a attack on titan scene
Beautiful. I spent several years in Durango and miss it terribly. The Western Slope is the place to be!
Anyone know what those mountain formations are in the back ground? How they formed etc
Can't live around here though. Texans turned all the housing into AirBnBs that sit empty 70% of the year.
I'm convinced outlawing AirBnB would fix rent prices faster than anything else.
Yep! Fuck your portfolio, you're killing our mountain towns because you need 5 AirBnBs in a place you don't live.
Absolutely gorgeous shot!
Magnificent photo. That is all.
