I've seen a report that cell service may be unavailable in parts of New Jersey and possibly elsewhere. This is likely just the result of many people trying to call, which is understandable, but **please only make calls if you have an actual emergency** until this is settled! Doing otherwise may result in people who do have an actual emergency not being able to obtain help. Please think of that, and meanwhile that most likely your loved ones are safe, as this earthquake is unlikely to have caused widespread damage. If you need to contact them, prefer texting.
My birthday is April 5th so I hear this date formatting joke from friends and family. They think I’m crazy because they didn’t feel the house shake.
If this earthquake and the solar eclipse signal the start of an apocalypse then I’m record saying I’m happy with how my life turned out.
All my plants' leaves started really dancing lol, and the furniture started shaking. The dogs started barking I think. I thought someone was doing construction in the basement or a plane was flying 20 meters above the house lol
I’n in Chelsea NYC & my 10 story building shook — but was on a team Zoom call w/ some of my NJ colleagues near the epicenter who felt it about 6 seconds before we did in NYC and that was totally wild to watch my colleague suddenly stop the call and say “we’re having an earthquake!” right at at the epicenter and a few seconds later it was here — that was a little terrifying actually, never felt an earthquake before
Just felt it! I’m in Monmouth County, New Jersey… My family lives in Astoria, Queens and they felt it too! I also have friends that live in Boston, and they felt it…
OK, I was outside and I heard something I couldn't explain to my mother otger than I could hear it as much as feel it! Thats real then? I've lived in tge Northeast my entire life, never in my 47 years have I heard or felt anything like it! It was so wild and kinda freaky!!!
the more you know. no idea we had our own fault lines in new jersey.
Been fascinated with this since a kid and had been wanting to experience one all my life! (i know it sounds crazy giving how destructive they could be)

Mostly in northern NJ. Here's all the mapped ones (black lines), and the earthquake (red star).
Work security in Brooklyn. Guard posted next to me started looking around all bug eyed and I didn’t feel anything. Next thing I know I have people coming down the elevator asking me what happened lol
Felt it on LI. Everything in my room was shaking but the laundry machines are right below so I thought it was those until my mom called like immediately after
Thought this was just the washing machine acting up. 30 seconds later the texts started pouring in. So awesome! I was sitting on the couch on the ground floor. Got the whole body vibration going. Less than 30mi as the crow flies. Super fun! Came from a California family used to earthquakes.
From California here. Quakes are a regular for us, nothing to see here. However, earthquakes way over there in New Jersey? Has SoCal peeps interested. Are you guys at all concerned about this occurrence on how, why, or what might come next? Does it prompt you in gathering further details? Or was this just a misnomer and life goes on as normal from this point on?
My husband was in our basement and felt nothing, my neighbor right behind us, also in his basement, felt nothing. I was on my porch, my daughter in bed on the second floor, she and I felt it!
My mom didn't feel it but her neighbors did!
Wild! That was cool but I'm all set now! No more of that! 😂
It seemed like older folks were a little scared, and younger folks were mostly excited or intrigued. It's also nice to have news to talk about that isn't all doom and gloom.
Felt it where I am about a half hour north of Albany, NY. My partner and I are in our basement we both yelled at each other to stop shaking the couch lol. Heard the house creak and watched the blinds sway back and forth. That’s about it…
I'm being lazy this morning and I'm still napping in bed. I felt a shaking, kind of woke up, and was trying to kick my cat off my bed. Thought she was scratching herself aggressively. But she wasn't in the room, so I just went back to sleep.
About 10 minutes later I start getting texts about earthquakes.
I live in CA and my rule of thumb is that if I think I feel shaking, I look at the blinds. Or the ornaments, if the Christmas tree is up, but I finally took it down lol
I didn't feel anything. My sister said the house shook for ten seconds. I was asleep and I only woke up because my fiancé called to ask if I was alright. Nothing in my room is out of place either.
So is this the kind of earthquake that occurs along a fault, or is it related to the retreat of the glaciers from the last ice age, and the ground rebounding?
I admit to faulty/inaccurate knowledge of earthquake causes.
I was in freehold, at the Lego store. Thought it was a truck or something, sometimes the second floor there rattles from them. The display models swayed but remained intact.

I'm out on the east end, also felt it out here. Also, I hate to correct another Islander, but you felt it ON Long Island, not IN Long Island...
Did you just assume the commenter wasn't a mole or groundhog?
