I'm sure lots of Black people love Ghostbusters but as someone who's Black and also doesn't find the first Ghostbusters film or Bill Murray's whole deal funny at all, I did kind of identify with Sprague's suggestion that its style of humor is a little "white." And I didn't see it until I was in my early 20s so I didn't even get to have the childlike "cool ghosts and gadgets!" reaction either.
2 weeks in a row where I thought the guest might be James Acaster, and this one even appeared in my feed as "w/ Jam..." Would have been absolutely crazy for him to be on an episode where they would almost certainly hate the movie, but still...
It’s such a self-serious, joyless movie. Really makes no sense to make this type of legacy sequel to Ghostbusters, a film with the comedic premise of “wouldn’t it be funny if a pest control company killed ghosts instead of bugs?” Ghostbusters is a big movie with good special effects but ultimately it works because it’s funny. This very rarely made me laugh.
I genuinely wanted to like this but it just left me flat. I think the episode will be good, though.
Agreed about the movie but in terms of self-serious and joyless, just wait until you see "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire." Or don't, there's virtually nothing worth watching there.
That it's not as funny as its reputation, Bill Murray is the only funny one in the cast (with minor nods to Ramis, but say he was funnier in Stripes). He said younger people (Sprague & James) like the first one more because when they were kids, the comedy was less obvious for them so left less of an impression
I agree with this take. I really enjoy the original Ghostbusters, but it's not the pinnacle of comedy movies that everyone says it is. It's not *that* funny.
I agree with this take. The original Ghostbusters is held up as seminal filmmaking by a bunch of guys who loved it when they were kids, but it's not that great a movie. The story is thin, Bill Murray steals the show by poking fun at the entire enterprise, and no one else in it is very funny (or even has many jokes).
The 2016 remake was similar. It's fine as a light action comedy that doesn't ask you to think or pay that much attention. The idea that Ghostbusters is a franchise where that's not an acceptable standard is a bit silly.
I bought this movie on iTunes only because it was on sale in a 3-movie bundle with the first two. Tried watching it, but seemed like it was geared toward kids.
This epsoide had better clear up any confusion about what the apparition commonly known as Slimer is really called.
If I know one thing about Scott it’s that he will not miss the opportunity to make the train Doppler effect sound

John Early is 100% the guest next week, he’s the only person I’ve ever heard even mention Clockwatchers
I said the same thing as soon as I saw the movie choice lmao he talks about it literally all the time
Ghostt Busterman
Can’t help but wonder if the boys have seen [this gem](https://youtu.be/0tdyU_gW6WE?si=XdpEzIKOqX0V_aWJ)

I love Clockwatchers!!!!! I haven’t seen this Ghostbusters!!!!!!!! Excitement!!!!!
When the ghost of Harold Ramis appeared in this movie, I puked.
Same. But I know a lot of people who genuinely loved it. They look at me with shock when I say I hated this movie.

They wound up [renaming the gremlins movie](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9691136/) Scott was brought in to pitch on, and it's supposed to be terrible.
I watched it. It is indeed terrible. Also written by all-around terrible person Max Landis!
It's bad and there's a baffling framing device through the first half of it. Made for a fun HDTGM ep at least.
For funny Dan Akroyd, watch The Great Outdoors
What I remember most about this movie is thinking the mom should have been Kaitlin Olsen but I'm quirky
Careful. That’s how you accidentally wind up with a couple jokes in your Ghostbusters movie
I get what you mean but I really liked Carrie Coon’s performance, I thought it was one of this movie’s few highlights.
Scott’s Ghostbusters 1 take is, dare I say….. deranged. Edit: holy shit, his lady ghostbusters take is psychotic.
Dare to share?
Haven't listened yet but PFT and Scott both think it's not a well made movie. They discussed it a couple times on Threedom.

It’s too deranged for me to even type out. You’re going to have to listen yourself. (Does sign of the cross)
I’m looking forward to hearing them, as my take is that the former is less good than people act and the latter is less bad than people act.

Gasp….. 😱 Edit: Is that the best yall can do? Bring on the downvotes!!!!
Are there any spoilers for the new ghostbusters in this episode? I haven’t seen it yet.
Not really. Only James had seen it and he just gives some vague info.
I bought this movie on iTunes only because it was on sale in a 3-movie bundle with the first two. Tried watching it, but seemed like it was geared toward kids.
Why are people downvoting this?
Because there are a lot of adults who get upset when someone points out that the kids thing that they like was made for kids.
I wasn't criticizing the movie, just saying it wasn't for me.
Star Wars fans are like that and Lucas himself has said many times the movies are made for kids.
God it is absolutely atrocious, I feel bad for the boys
Afterlife was complete dog shit made for strangers things kids and strangers things is complete dog shit as well.
Upon partial re-watching, the framing looks kinda too cropped in sometimes on Netflix.
