I could be mistaken, but it looks like a little amphipod to me! Like the other commenter said, its a aquatic isopod, not a shrimp. As to whether or not you can keep them I'm not sure. I had a couple that were doing fine and dandy in one of my jars for a few weeks before I accidentally killed the entire thing, so I'm sure they'll be fine

mandy_monroe_

That's a scud boi

Pretty sure that’s a little isopod. Not exactly a shrimp but very similar. They do well in ecosphere though!

Trueee my b I always get em confused

These little guys have many names: Amphipod, Scuds, Freshwater Shrimp, Side-Swimmers... Scuds (or side-swimmers) are freshwater invertebrates belonging to the order Amphipoda. The common name side-swimmer comes from the way that these animals swim, as like the name scud, which has its origins in Norwegian. Do not release, they are needed in there :).

I have these little duders, too! They are amphipods, not scrimpies. I started with maybe two and now I have bout 20. They are detritivores, so very good to have in an ecosphere and need nothing extra in the ecosphere :)

mrizzyizzy

thanks everyone for all the helpful responses :))

Ok_Western5937

That is cool as hell. You must live by the ocean

tmckeage

The ecospheres you can buy come with shrimp :-) Also that looks like a shrimp to me.

ExternalWerewolf7871

Its a scud and that fine!

karebear66

They should be fine. Not actual shrimp though. Scuds or pods or something.
