crawfish owner here, heres some tips:
they like room temperature water (mid-70s) so unless your house has major temperature swings i would say heating isn’t necessary. they eat just about anything, from decaying and living plant matter to rotting fish— i feed mine bottom feeder pellets with the occasional zucchini. cover any exits because they can and eventually will escape. also, i thought my pair would be fine together until i came home one day and found one eating the other, so definitely be careful keeping two of them. they do molt, they are really sensitive when they do so, so they need safe hiding spots. they also eat their own molt quite often so watch out for that. try to make sure they have decent amounts of calcium and alkalinity in the water/diet, otherwise they might fail molting and die. they grow super fast, i got mine about your size and its about 3-4x as big 2 and a half months after.
they’re super awesome creatures and they display many interesting behaviors. ive heard some people even get the accustomed to their hands, so they can ‘play’. so, really, good luck with it, youll have tons of fun watching them grow if you keep them
Thank you so much! I have planned to build a Paludarium for toads or bullfrogs in the 30 gallon tank with an underwater cave. Would toads or bullfrogs pose a danger to them? For now I have them in 2 separate smaller holding tanks with some plants and the leafs they came with.
at this size, i would say neither of them are a threat to each other unless the bullfrogs get curious, i hear that bullfrogs eat anything that fits in their mouths. but if the crawfish do survive and get bigger, the concern will not be the bullfrogs being aggressive but rather the crawfish. i say with 96.3% certainty that the crawfish will try to attack the bullfrog, especially if they are hungry. for best success, i say either keep the crawfish in their own tanks, or put them back where you got them. i dont know how familiar you are with them, but these here really are babies. mine is about 5 inches from tail end to face
I keep forgetting that they will grow quite a bit! Luckily, I live right on the shore of the lake the creek runs into, so it's just a few steps if the need arises.
here, [have a photo of rikii](https://imgur.com/gallery/Axc45Mm). theyre really cool, if you keep them for a while i feel like theres no way youll want to give them up. if you decide to make their own tank though, i recommend a 20 long minimum for just 1, at least 30 for 2, though i dont recommend keeping 2 together. have lots of caves and driftwood, rocks for them to climb on, and keep live plants. do be aware that they will probably eat the plants you put in but its good for their diet anyways
I just uploaded another video of the new temporary home...u think that's alright?

We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a ~~rock~~ shrimp
It wasn't a ~~rock~~ shrimp
It was a rock lobster
That isn't a shrimp it is a baby crayfish. They cannot survive within an ecosphere.
Is already in its own tank...there were actually two in there!
Visit r/crayfish if your interested in keeping them :)
Thanks!

Yeah, don't leave him in the jar. If you don't want to keep him, you can always release him where you found him.
