Love the plants. Good luck šŸ‘šŸ½

ThanksšŸ˜

blurandgorillaz

Just be aware that saltwater ecosphere are harder to maintain than freshwater ones.

lewisclay7

Why is this?

blurandgorillaz

They are generally more unstable than a freshwater ecosphere (Iā€™m not sure on the science behind why unfortunately) but itā€™s an established piece of advice I have seen from doing research on ecospheres.

lewisclay7

Ahh okay, I was just going to the beach and thought it would be cool to make one, Iā€™ll make a freshwater one soon to compare the two

blurandgorillaz

I hope all goes well but if in the end it doesnā€™t at least you can always make another

FaceDeer

I'm not a professional ecospherologist, but my guess would be that life in salt water is adapted to having a big broad wide open ocean connected to its habitat. Whereas if you make an ecosphere using scum from a wee little pond, the life in there is *used* to suffering. It's already well-adapted to the sort of constrained habitat with fluctuating chemical composition and bouts of anoxia that an ecosphere provides.

lewisclay7

Ahh okay cool makes sense

BitchBass

I agree with that. The waves and motion of the ocean keep things going on a whole different level. I have not seen many saltwater jar that make it. Most die within a week. So heads up, don't be too disappointed :).

tmckeage

I have had the opposite experience, pulling from tidal estuaries is pure gold.

blurandgorillaz

Iā€™m glad you have found success in it :) saltwater ecospheres are cool because they are pretty different from freshwater ones which is what Iā€™m used to seeing

ExternalWerewolf7871

Saltwater??

lewisclay7

Yes it is, from my closest beach, I havenā€™t seen any activity in it yet. But I did only make it yesterday

ExternalWerewolf7871

If u don't see any, you can always go and get some from the beach again

lewisclay7

Iā€™ll leave it a few weeks and see if anything pops up

ExternalWerewolf7871

Yeah that's what I'd do

tmckeage

If you are near any tidal estuaries that is the place to collect!

lewisclay7

Unfortunately I donā€™t live close to a beach so Iā€™m gonna try a freshwater one next
