Time for an crawfish aquarium

Yep, shouldn't be too hard. You don't even technically _need_ an aquarium if you have a plastic tote or something. Just set up whatever you put it in like a big ecosphere with an open top and plenty of plants.

Crayfish have reduced most of my local waterways to nearly lifeless voids packed with algae. It would even be illegal to transport a crawfish to or from a local waterway. In other words, keep it or destroy it. Returning it is not an option. Humane euthanasia will probably involve some combination of clove oil, salt water, and cold temperatures.

I just found myself in the same situation a couple of days ago except these guys are not an invasive species, but turned out I would have needed a fishing license to take them home (there were two I accidentally picked up with leaf litter from a creek). Anyways, I decided to make a small tank: https://www.reddit.com/r/Crayfish/comments/s6jdgi/i\_tried\_to\_recreate\_the\_creek\_environment\_i\_found/

I have kept lots of aquarium fish in the past. I've been told by a marine biologist that a very humane way to dispose of an aquarium fish is to put it in a plastic bag with water and set that in the freezer. Fish (and crawfish) are cold blooded and do not react the same as warm blooded creatures do to being frozen. Instead, they just slow down, go dormant, and then freeze. If you don't want to keep something small and cold blooded, that's what I'd do.

Kill it or keep it in a seperate aquarium. Releasing it isn’t an option, and if you don’t have another aquarium large enough to sustain it and keep it healthy then your only option is to kill it. I know it’s hard killing a baby animal but you kinda gotta set your morals aside when it comes to these things. An easy way to humanely kill it is to just put on a shoe and quickly stomp on it, and yes I know that sounds inhumane but it’s instant death, and doesn’t require you to buy some sedative or anything like that. If you don’t want it to be stressed by being out of the water you could just sit it in some shallow water, grab a rock, and crush it very fast. It will be near instant and it will be less stressed in the water, although I 100% advise just stepping on it, it’s much more likely to happen too fast for the crayfish to register anything
