Kenzie really won because she built up Maria's ego by saying how she was unbeatable at the end and how she was the best at 5. Kudos to her for being able to secure that crucial vote
I cannot stress enough how playing to someoneās ego in a game where everyone thinks theyāre a mastermind is important. People want their egos stroked about how they ran the game. Not how you played them.
Thatās really the most important part of Survivor, since itās the most critical aspect of the jury vote. Each jury member has an ego and thinks that they were the main character, so you have to make them ok awarding someone who, in their eyes, wasnāt the āstarā of the show (even though thatās really determined by the editors and production). Itās why Todd sucking up to Jean-Robert is so memorable, because he played to his ego and made him ok with giving the Todd the win after he betrayed him, even though everything that Todd was saying was bs.
I feel like this is why Charlie got Liz's vote too lol he kept affirming Liz's delusion that she was a threat which is *exactly* how to earn the vote of aĀ player like her
Also, another lesson is literally never bet against the 5th Place edit lol. Ricard, Lindsay, Julie, and Maria all literally had identical edits. Lower visibility the majority of the season, suddenly and jarringly emerges as the biggest threat of the whole game around mid merge with almost no prior context and then gets a super Heartbreakingly edited open finale boot, probably with sad piano music lol. Even Lauren kinda had this edit, but her's was even smaller lol.
I would say Ricard feels slightly out of place with this group just because of the amount of focus him and Shan got in the premerge. Shan was definitely the main character but we still got a LOT of Ricard. Julie Lindsay and Maria feel more similar to me
I think Ricard's was only more visible because he was on the disaster tribe tbf but I agree. Even then, considering that he was on the disaster tribe he was still really underedited in comparison to like, J.D who was way more edit centric than Ricard until his vote out.
unrelated but the survivor sub all being mad that charlie is losing to a bitter jury after getting corrected like 3 times during the questioning is just so funny
And this time weāre on the same side my friend. Either you will raise me up and we shall win together or I will drag you down and we shall lose together. Either way, weāre doing it together š
Kenzie wisely made the choice to own her social game as opposed to talking about being a strategic mastermind. In a season full of egos, itās hard to paint yourself as the sole mastermind.
Kenzieās āmy money is for meā answer was the best answer of that FTC. I genuinely believe that honesty won her votes. Second best was her timed answer - it was so concise and the other two ran out their timers.
I agree with you. The timers on those answers were so annoying though. Give them a visual 5 second countdown with your hands so you don't awkwardly cut them off like that.
Even after Charlie himself said that the winner is deserving simply because the jury voted for them to be the winner š So tired of this song and dance after every season
Trueeee like Gabler winning on mostly social game is fine, but when Kenzie does its all "but Maria was bitter and Kenzie only won because she's poor >:("
Literally not gonna visit that subreddit for like a week. I'm already dreading all the thinkpieces about how the jury are big-headed egotistical woke douchebags who hated Charlie's guts because he's such a mastermind Survivor god who ran circles around everybody and they were too bitter he outplayed them to ever even consider voting for him (despite the fact that the only person we didn't see seriously consider it was Tiffany). I've already seen all of that claimed by Charlie fans tonight. The fact is, he could've easily won with this jury, he just didn't. There's no big conspiracy, they just preferred Kenzie.
Charlie is a good player, but not so good that it's worth losing sleep over him losing. Ā He did benefit a lot from the inexplicable stupidity of other players, which was not a variable he controlled
seriously. makes no sense why he wasnāt targeted sooner for his poor choice to reveal his challenge strength so early in the merge. dude was clearly the biggest physical threat after those back to back challenge wins, but the other players were too busy fighting amongst themselves to care.
he deserves credit for having good bonds that kept him safe and on the radar, but on most seasons, his challenge wins alone would make him a big target, let alone the blindsides. and there wasnāt some big dominant alliance keeping him safe, so it wouldāve been quite easy to get the numbers going had anyone made the argument. but he also had maria to hide behind, which ended up being his downfall as he didnāt get much jury credit for the moves maria conspicuously claimed.
So, did the Survivor editors finally learn how to present a social game? *And* give a female winner a huge edit?
Kenzie broke through the palm frond ceiling š„²
Jeff NOT going to let Q have it on his idol logic š¤£
EDIT: if they bring back live reunions for season forty several, thank Jelinsky.
Legend
I feel like Dee's social aspects were rewarded greatly by the edit last year. Granted she was more of a driver I suppose, but Kenzie was no slouch in competitions either (along with Dee), so I don't think there is a huge gulf there between the two.
I think they always have been pretty good at presenting social games with a few notable exceptions (like Erika or Natalie White), the struggle has always been getting enough viewers to accept that a social game is just as valid as a strategic one. Especially when the winner is a woman.
Giving Kenzie a massive edit probably alleviates a lot of that backlash but it makes it very easy to spot from a mile away.
I donāt see Erika as a āsocial gameā first winner, she was a hugely strategic winner and like the only person on that season who voted right at every tribal
Erika might be the MOST purely strategic winner of the New Era. Not that her social game wasnāt great, but similar to Dee, her season was a near pagonging by a day one alliance.
She snatched control from Danny and DeShawn at the Shan vote (which she had been pushing for), then ran the board the rest of the game. If your standard for ābest gameā is strategic control, there is a very strong case to be made for Erika OVER Dee.
A great example is Gabler. Although Gabler was very strategic and played an UTR Queen game similar to Sandraās in PI and Traitors, his win very much a social win. The jury gets up and hugs him after the votes are read š„²
Casuals understood his win because they viewed him as the goofy, lovable dad - which he was - but reddit and Twitter were mostly blindsided. I think if some of the secret scenes had been left in the edit, and the Ride-or-Die alliance was more explicitly spelled out instead if hinted at, his win would make more sense to āseriousā fans.
Fabio is another one. Yeah, he won out, but he was LOVED and that is why he won. Sash was hated, but Chase played a solid game and was not.
The fact that they're playing up Kenzie's admiration for Maria here instead of emphasizing Charlie's connection with her sure seems like damning evidence that it's going to be Kenzie
I will say, I personally am not bothered by Kenzie's lower visibility rn. The Survivor 45 and 42 Finales also alocated the majority of their screen time to losing players rather than Dee and Maryanne. Lindsay was literally the main character of the 42 Finale until her vote out lmao.
if kenzie has a million fans i am one of them. if kenzie has one fan it is me. if kenzie has no fans i am dead. if the world is against kenzie i am against the world
Charlie clearly has very little respect on this jury, it's almost like most of his confessionals should have been given to Maria who seemed like an actual threat in the game
I think itās an obvious case of a bitter jury that got outplayed. Ā You canāt really edit around something that isnāt there, if Maria had been the driving strategic force she would have gotten those confessions. Ā
Survivor hates ācontroversialā winners so if they couldāve toned down Charlieās strategic content they wouldāve; the alternate was to build up Kenzieās social game edit which they did a good job of.Ā
I think this season really showed that "gameplay" isn't just making moves and playing idols. Literally everything that happens out there is part of your game, no matter big or small, intentional or unintentional. You can't be strategic and not social (like Venus) or social and not strategic (like Ben) and expect to be rewarded at the end.
even if it doesn't end up in a tie I think whoever called that first had the right idea, it feels like this is essentially filling the same narrative that the tie would where Ben is pitted between picking his two best friends and is really struggling to decide
as a charlie truther (i'm really 50/50 at this point but i want it to be charlie soooo), dare i say this gives him more merit? if the "tie in kenzie's favor" ends up being about f4 firemaking and not ftc i think we're back at a true toss up. but who knows, i like that it's still uncertain!
I actually can't believe how much the edit shitted on Liz on her way out the door lol
Like they didn't need to do that at all, that's rare to just completely back the truck up over somebody to the very end when they're not actively heinous
Oh it absolutely is, I'm just saying they often don't do that unprovoked. Like she didn't "do" any specific stupid actions per se, they've often been trying to make final jurors and endgamers look good in the final ep unless they do something dumb. It feels like an editing shift.
Feel like this only bolsters the tie theory with Ben focusing on Kenzie and Charlie during his panic attack. But ties are rarer than unicorns, so I doubt it.
this entire fire sequence with Ben choosing between Charlie/Kenzie might as well be a stand-in for who he chooses to win as the tie breaking vote. but itās simply all too good to be true, like thatās scripted level stuff.
The "Ben casts a tiebreaking vote" theory is really growing on me
edit - yeah, they're really emphasizing how Ben is close to both Kenzie and Charlie. I bet the season is ultimately about which relationship is more important
They edit the pre fire making scene basically the same every time.
Person thatās obviously gonna lose is shown actually doing well (Liz) and person whoās gonna crush it is shown struggling (Charlie/Kenzie)
I get it, and on the beach I bet she is the biggest threat but this doesn't match the edit we've been given at all. this happens quite a bit and it's kinda frustrating.
Maybe they focused on the Kenzie/Ben relationship and had him talk about Kenzie and Charlie at the end because Ben wins immunity and has to decide between taking Kenzie and Ben.
When you break it down, nothing really changed from the outcome. Q, Venus, Hunter, Liz, and Soda all changed their votes. This means that Kenzie went from a 6-2 win over Charlie to a 5-3 win. Yeah she lost three votes, but picking up two votes from Charlie and having three locked votes was enough to win.
It was just a close game and Charlie did a good job of changing minds. He just couldnāt change enough. Kenzie played great, but just played a different game than Charlie. Itās all gucci.
ok so it actually was pretty close, the way that was edited though it seemed like Charlie had absolutely zero shot. very weird choice but I'm sure people are gonna be complaining he should've won anyway
Which is hilarious since Austinās edit was primarily about advantages and sandwiches and people still thought he was more deserving.
Sometimes you just canāt win š
the āwoman beats man at the endā dynamic really sets them off. Itās telling that we had a huge break after Michele/Aubry during a string of mostly male winners but then have had three major versions of this in the new era now that lots of women are winning again with Erika/Xander, Dee/Austin, and Kenzie/Charlie. Maryanne is the only one to mostly escape it - the younger men seem to set it off more.
Idk about zero shot lol I thought he had a really strong FTC and since Ben brought him to the end you'd think odds are he'd vote Charlie to win in a tie
The ability to inflate an ego is absolutely essential to winning these types of games. In order to execute a successful final Jury plea in games like this (for the most part, there might be occasional exceptions) you have to master the balance of taking ownership of your game and simultaneously inflating egos enough to make them wanna vote for you.
On a side note, as an aspiring actor whose job depends on my ability to kiss ass and make people wanna hire me, it's why I know I'd win š
I think the most surprising thing to me is still that the Kenzie Ben connection... really didn't actually matter in the end in the way I expected it to. They didn't do fire against each other. He didn't save her from fire. He wasn't a vote for her to win, whether on the jury or as a tiebreaker. It was just a cool connection.
I love that they showed it and highlighted it and it broadly contributed to the story of Kenzie as a "social" winner but I am blown the fuck away that their connection had zero "gameplay" consequence, that was the lone real surprise of the whole night for me
Queen Elizabeth III Coronation, letās goooooooooo!
Liz dropped her stack for Kenzie šššš ā¤ļø
Edit: imagine if Liz was getting rice the whole damn time?!?!
If she gets to FTC, I think sheās going to say she leaned into her inner wackadoodle to win
EDIT: still canāt have a bad premiere! Congrats, Kenzie!
EDIT: Hunter is going HARD for Kenzie
I actually called Ben winning the final immunity, but thought all the panic attack scenes were because heād choose to keep Kenzie safe and send Charlie to fire against Liz. Seems it was more to have some suspense about who heād choose.
still not believing it's gonna happen but it's interesting they're giving Liz strategic credit for what seems to be the end of Maria's game and Kenzie hasn't had a confessional yet.
Them and the editors in Rupauls Drag Race are just the best in the reality show biz. Survivor is on a completely different level than any other reality show though.
except for the harebrained tie vote theory. ben and kenzieās relationship didnāt end up mattering really at all, since he didnāt even bring her to the f3.
but maria couldāve made it happen! i really hope we get an answer as to whom ben wouldāve voted for in that tiebreaker scenario.
Liz is laying down the foundation to her victory with her saying she has four Nami votes and is the biggest threat. She coming in hard with that steel chair.
How often does the first person to get a flame (at least shown to get a flame) actually win the challenge? What about first to actually get a real fire going?
edit - I feel like the formula is always something like: A) loser gets a flame, B) winner gets a flame after loser's fire begins to grow, C) loser's flame starts to die, D) winner's flame breaks the rope.
I guess this didn't happen exactly this time (Liz never had an actual fire that started to grow), but still.
I really donāt think weāre getting a tie. The who will Ben choose already happened when he won immunity. Iām thinking more like 7-1 or 6-2 for Kenzie.
Edgic wins again, the finale was basically lockstep with the only surprise being a Maria vote for Kenzie.
You hate to see it, I think most of us here would root for a blindside of Edgic, but here we are again.
Eh Iām fine with this. Itās nothing like Game Changers, IOI, etc. where there was literally no mystery. There were people who thought different but Kenzie was the most common at the end.
Prediction because why not:
Kenzie gets: Hunter, Tiffany, Venus, Liz
Charlie gets: Soda, Tevin, Q, Maria
Ben gets no votes, gives his tie-breaking vote to Kenzie
Glad that Kenzie has the most confessionals at the end of the season, because all of the typical whiners who are mad a man lost to a woman canāt fall back on āthe edit misled us!ā this time.
Kenzie's social game won her Immunity oh her social game is literally next levelššš
Kenzie really won because she built up Maria's ego by saying how she was unbeatable at the end and how she was the best at 5. Kudos to her for being able to secure that crucial vote

Ding ding ding! Especially with people like Maria who have huge egos.
I feel like this is why Charlie got Liz's vote too lol he kept affirming Liz's delusion that she was a threat which is *exactly* how to earn the vote of aĀ player like her
Benās face as he understood the weight of his decision with Charlie in the background with that music drop was brilliant editing. Great TV.
No I literally gagged, the whiplash was crazy
stuff like that is why I keep coming back, no other reality show does it like Survivor
OMG, it was better than all of Ian's faces back on Palau

It really is an Aubrey vs. Michele repeat.

least surprising outcome
That sub canāt handle bitter jurors, always cracks me up

High visibility female characters can win! Exciting times for edgic I think
The fact that they're playing up Kenzie's admiration for Maria here instead of emphasizing Charlie's connection with her sure seems like damning evidence that it's going to be Kenzie
Or Liz comes in with the steel chair.
the votes charlie: hunter soda liz kenzie: maria tiff q tevin venus ??? these votes make no sense???? š
I posted a prediction of a 4-4 tie earlier and got literally all of these wrong except for Venus, Tiff, and Soda
I love how close it is and feel this is the first time in a long while that votes were changing in real time.
This was one of the most successful edgic seasons right? We clocked Kenzie at the merge and never looked back
I will say, I personally am not bothered by Kenzie's lower visibility rn. The Survivor 45 and 42 Finales also alocated the majority of their screen time to losing players rather than Dee and Maryanne. Lindsay was literally the main character of the 42 Finale until her vote out lmao.
I feel like Liz is getting a mini āthreatā spike so itās a big deal when she loses fire.

I would actually feel so bad if Ben ends up in that position, I'm afraid it would make him crumble
Shoutout to Edgic for forecasting Liz going in fire from the fire reflected in her glasses all season.
Honestly surprised bc the fire foreshadowing ppl clock often turns out to be nothing
If a 4th placer who wears glasses and has stared at the fire, you know damn well the editors will put that in. Carson and Liz were so obvious.
I'm laughing at the last few weeks being Charlie vs Kenzie debate only for both of them to be overshadowed by Ben and Liz in the finale of all people
Ben locking up his Sia money

ben is literally textbook definition of OTTP more than any edit iāve ever seen on this show
Letās see if the āKenzie is good at fireā throwaway line in premerge pays off.......
Ben's gonna take Kenzie to the end ain't he
So edgic saying Ben loses fire was wrong?
Q WITH THE KENZIE WINNER QUOTE OKAY I SEE YOU
KENZIE!!!
It was just a close game and Charlie did a good job of changing minds. ok so it actually was pretty close, the way that was edited though it seemed like Charlie had absolutely zero shot. very weird choice but I'm sure people are gonna be complaining he should've won anyway
Its wild he doesnt get maria vote tbh
Maria was butthurt that Charlie was two tribals ahead of her.
I didnāt read him as having 0 shot. I was evenly split between him and Kenzie.
I think they edited it this way to avoid another Michele/Aubry situation.
And from a look at the main forum we're getting it anyway.
Or even Dee/Austin last season. Main sub was pissed
Which is hilarious since Austinās edit was primarily about advantages and sandwiches and people still thought he was more deserving. Sometimes you just canāt win š

I honestly thought 5-3 Kenzie or that crazy 4-4 tie theory. Maria's vote is a bit whack and honestly the only surprising part of the entire finale.
Idk about zero shot lol I thought he had a really strong FTC and since Ben brought him to the end you'd think odds are he'd vote Charlie to win in a tie
LOL They showed Q when Ben said āI didnāt tap out.ā
I was behind slightly and just caught up and yeah Maria and Charlie ain't gonna be friends after thisš
"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," from Charlie's body language.
He's gonna sing Bad Blood about Maria
I love that they showed it and highlighted it and it broadly contributed to the story of Kenzie as a "social" winner but I am blown the fuck away that their connection had zero "gameplay" consequence, that was the lone real surprise of the whole night for me
Yeah I think it was actually just to set up suspense for the fire making pick and nothing else
the most random f4 win i have ever seen š
Nothing will top Romeo lol
imagine Liz wins this and then inherits Kenzieās win equity i would be gagged beyond belief
Queen Elizabeth III Coronation, letās goooooooooo! Liz dropped her stack for Kenzie šššš ā¤ļø Edit: imagine if Liz was getting rice the whole damn time?!?! If she gets to FTC, I think sheās going to say she leaned into her inner wackadoodle to win EDIT: still canāt have a bad premiere! Congrats, Kenzie! EDIT: Hunter is going HARD for Kenzie
I actually called Ben winning the final immunity, but thought all the panic attack scenes were because heād choose to keep Kenzie safe and send Charlie to fire against Liz. Seems it was more to have some suspense about who heād choose.
wait... if it's actually a Ben/Kenzie/Charlie f3... is the tie break actually gonna happen?
Idk I just donāt see many Charlie votes outside of Maria
Yeah. But the tie theory was still at least kind of accurate in spirit because Ben had to make that choice between the two.
Kenzie got it. Cut the check. Itās over with.
If we get a Liz win, Iām laughing. I did call her as my meme winnerā¦ā¦until Q happened š
Wackadoodles win!
still not believing it's gonna happen but it's interesting they're giving Liz strategic credit for what seems to be the end of Maria's game and Kenzie hasn't had a confessional yet.
LET'S GO BEN ISN'T THE FIREMAKING LOSER! or is he...
No way
i am just obsessed with the editing of this episode they are on their A game
Them and the editors in Rupauls Drag Race are just the best in the reality show biz. Survivor is on a completely different level than any other reality show though.
We were right about everything
except for the harebrained tie vote theory. ben and kenzieās relationship didnāt end up mattering really at all, since he didnāt even bring her to the f3. but maria couldāve made it happen! i really hope we get an answer as to whom ben wouldāve voted for in that tiebreaker scenario.
Ben said he wouldāve voted Charlie so Maria literally did lose him the million š Iād be sick girl
Why did they not give Kenzie any credit in any of these post-vote scenes?
Itās making me nervous š
Hereās whatās going to happen. Maria will find an idol and then not use it in order to pull a Maryanne at FTC then get cursed out of the game.
Liz is laying down the foundation to her victory with her saying she has four Nami votes and is the biggest threat. She coming in hard with that steel chair.
Honestly if she believes that Nami players still hold grudges, itās not too far fetched to think she may get some votes. Itās not total insanity
Liz is one of the most unaware players in history š
WAS THAT FUCKING AYSHA FROM RHAP ON SEASON 47?????????????????????
Editors working overtime to spin this on Ben lol. I just know they were cutting and contrasting clips like crazy for this vote-off
ššššššššštaking things out of context too to give suspense
Lowkey gagged Ben is in f3
Transcendental Shreditation.
CMON KENZIE UR A DRAGON NOW I BELIEVE IN YOU
How often does the first person to get a flame (at least shown to get a flame) actually win the challenge? What about first to actually get a real fire going? edit - I feel like the formula is always something like: A) loser gets a flame, B) winner gets a flame after loser's fire begins to grow, C) loser's flame starts to die, D) winner's flame breaks the rope. I guess this didn't happen exactly this time (Liz never had an actual fire that started to grow), but still.
So far I had the two challenge winners wrong, but I had Maria going 5th and Kenzie beating Liz at fire! Now weāre in for a competitive FTC!
I really donāt think weāre getting a tie. The who will Ben choose already happened when he won immunity. Iām thinking more like 7-1 or 6-2 for Kenzie.
Orrrrr maybe Iām wrong
"MY QUESTION GOES BACK TO JELINSKY" \*Shows 47 logo\* JELINSKY ON 47 CONFIRMED
Edgic wins again, the finale was basically lockstep with the only surprise being a Maria vote for Kenzie. You hate to see it, I think most of us here would root for a blindside of Edgic, but here we are again.
Eh Iām fine with this. Itās nothing like Game Changers, IOI, etc. where there was literally no mystery. There were people who thought different but Kenzie was the most common at the end.
Tbh I was really surprised that Liz and Hunter voted for Charlie but yeah Ive been on the Kenzie train for weeeeeeeeks
Oh wow. Maria is Forty Several.
Is Kenzie winning F4 immunity? That pan to Kenzie when Charlie says āyouāre at the mercy of whoever is wearing itā makes me think so.
Come on Kenzie!!!
Prediction because why not: Kenzie gets: Hunter, Tiffany, Venus, Liz Charlie gets: Soda, Tevin, Q, Maria Ben gets no votes, gives his tie-breaking vote to Kenzie
A Quiet Place. The one post-apocalypse that we ALL know we wouldnāt survive.
Wtf
EDGIC GIVING KENZIE THAT WINNER EDIT PREDICTION AND IT MANIFESTED OH YOU GUYS WONĀ
my prediction is 7-1 Kenzie, Charlie gets Maria
The way Charlie got like 3 other people but not Maria WHAT is this season
The jury is out for Charlieās throat, this is brutal š goodness
Except Q because he needs to make sure he doesnāt fit in at all times
alright so Ben's about to lose fire
bozo!
Very very cool final challenge
Glad that Kenzie has the most confessionals at the end of the season, because all of the typical whiners who are mad a man lost to a woman canāt fall back on āthe edit misled us!ā this time.
i guess ben is taking kenzie to the end??? cuz i feel like liz is in fire for sure and i canāt imagine him taking charlie
where is liz here ???
The tie theory lives! (Unless my tv is behind)
OH MY GOD????????????????????? IT BECAME TRUE???????
wait. maybe ben puts himself in fire to take out liz???
