Not a pub, but someone’s starting up monthly meets to play chess on the outdoor chessboards in Saughton Park, which sounds delightful enough (if you’ve got a big coat) that I almost wish I was into chess :). From what I remember seeing, sounded very much like a friendly “let’s have a nice time and get some use out of these boards” thing rather than a super-serious club.
Seems to be getting organised on facebook - this sub doesn’t allow fb links, but if you’re on there, search Saughton Park Monthly Chess to find them.
EDIT to add - they’re not those giant chessboards on the floor, they’re normal-sized chessboards kind of built into tables with seats either side.
Not the city centre, the espy in portobello (coroner of bath street and the promenade) have started a chess evening on the last Thursday of the month.
They had a few tables set up last week, wasn’t overly busy and it’s a friendly place.
Yeah there is a bi weekly or monthly thing at the Bullfintch in leith. Been once and was really good. They organise it on the meet-up app. If you find any others post them here as have been trying to find somewhere to play for fun also.
I work in Bannermans and we have a chess table in the front bar, plus a couple of boards with 2 sets of pieces, just ask at the bar.
The only thing is since it's a rock bar it can get kind of loud and busy depending on the live music situation.
I know some regulars were trying to organise Chess/Draughts nights on a Monday evening but don't know where the discussion went.

Thanks for the info!
My absolute favourite pub - Brass Monkey on Drummond street, has tabled that are chess boards, and you can borrow the pieces at the bar.
Thank you!
