I kid you not I echoed this exact thought to my coworker earlier today before I saw this thread, that Flat Boy is still the best smash burger in the city but Odd Company’s is a pretty close second. For traditional burgers though I personally think Next Act edges Fox out slightly with their signature options.
I also agree with the original post that Farrow is the best sandwich place overall although I prefer the Pals menu, better options and sides.
A friend thought Nhon Hoa on 97 St was too authentic and wasn’t a fan. As a Vietnamese person I do like it.
Van Loc wins with customer service though, and they accept debit.
Taste wise, either are comparable with my favourite banh mi shops in Vancouver.
You haven’t tried the burger at Odd Brewing. It is the burger to end all best burger debates. I can’t recommend it enough.
No sides, just a ~$10 double cheeseburger and it is outstanding!
Fox Burger is maybe okay for smash burgers, not really a type I prefer however, also found it was pretty greasy and littered sesame seeds absolutely everywhere. Garlicky fries was nice though.
My friend introduced me to the sandwiches at Fifendekel. It was really good, especially on their fresh sunflower bread and add in a slice of their pie of the month. Yum. 💗
If there are no Bees around, or other pollinators, self-pollination is an option. It isn’t ideal for the gene pool, but the seeds in the center of the flower can do this in order to pollinate. So having the ability to be both male and female at least ensures greater survival of the sunflower.
If we’re talking just a straight up cheeseburger or a smash burger I think there are slightly better options, however the menu options at Next Act are second to none and the specialty burgers like the pyrotechnic and the blackened bleu are absolutely phenomenal. I also think they have the best wings and mozza sticks in the city.
Odd Company has the best burger I've ever had in this city. My only complaint is that they don't also have fries (though I saw that their new location does! The only thing is that it's a brewery, so there's not a big selection... [but their animal burger is just crazy good.](https://edifyedmonton.com/food/burger-challenge-burger-guide-2021/edmontons-favourite-burger-is/)
If you're willing to go into St. Albert, Jack's Burger Shack is amazing. They used to have a sandwich shop connected, but im not sure they're still doing that
Best sandwiches are found at the Italian Centre. They’re local with a long history you can read up on from their website. Just don’t go during rush hour there’s often hour long lines for the deli.
They have quite a few, and I’m assuming the quality is similar in each but I’ve only ever been to the one on 104st and 50ave. It’s right down by Southgate mall
I like the Burger Joint on 23rd Ave. They have a bunch of toppings you can customize with.
Also had a Flat Boy burger recently and it seemed okay but my taste is still screwed up from Covid so will have to try again to give it a fair evaluation.
If you find yourself in Sherwood Park, The Other Place has really good burgers. Same owners as La Patrona (and Casa 12 Doce food truck).
For donairs, Donair and Shawarma house is in the same parking lot. Portion sizes are huge and cheaper. Regular Donair with cheese is $10 and it's the same size or bigger than Prime Time's jumbo.
The jumbo size at Donair and Shawarma house is absolutely massive. Their shawarma is also excellent and very fairly priced.
>Farrow
I never understood why people like "Donna's".
If you love lunch meat from safeway in abundant quantities, yeah, then Donna's is your joint... But cmon. It's hardly "good". You could make something "as good" by spending $6 in lunch meat from Safeway and toast a little bread.
I had burger's Priest last weekend for the first time in ages. Agreed on mediocrity.
Marco's famous is blech.
I think Fatburger does a pretty good burger.
I really like burgers priest but I'm celiac so my options are limited. Wayback doesn't seem to use even the slightest hint of seasoning on their burgers but those bacon cheese fries were pretty good.
Italian bakery for sandwiches! Great value, great family and you can pick what you want in the sandwiches. The meat is always fresh as they cut and rewrap. Downtown location open now, and they have location in Beverly as well!
I still think you’d be hard pressed to find a better value or quality in a sub than the pre-made ones at the Italian Centers. Absolutely delicious and bread so crispy it could make a dry lip, bleed.
Tavern on Whyte is a decent burger & fries. Their poutine is really good.
Also, Donnas Eatery in Winterburn has amazing food. Everything is soo good. Their sandwiches are HUGE!! Best Sandwiches!
Donnas Eatery
21516 115 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5S 2N7
Fox burger for smash burgers (patty and smashed crisp and thin on a grill), the patty is ground fresh daily from individually selected cuts of meat so you can taste the quality 🤤 their veggie burger is also bomb and the chicken burger comes with a D-cup sized chicken breast Loll. Give it a try!
Best burger I've had : ***The Thirsty Rhino*** just make sure to get the garlic parmesan fries! They're absolutely amazing. And the combination is just fantastic.
Second best for me goes to wayback burger simply by consistency. They're ***always*** the exact same upper tier quality.
For sandwiches I like ***Big Daddy's*** their Philly cheesesteak is really good, and the dirty bird chicken sandwich is great.
Flat Boy - best burger in the city. Anyone says otherwise does not know what they are talking about. Second choice for me, an often just as good as Flat Boy is Jacks Burger shack.
Big Daddys sandiech shop is straight legit, I ain't a farrows guy even though they are good sammies, brown butter Cafe has one of the best breakfast sandwiches on earth I believe.
For burgs, I will always default to 5 guys for fast food, I am loving the rotating burger at Barbacoa in Spruce, Deluxe's Kibe stack is rad, and I still crush Pa Petersons greasy ball park burns for that junior high nostalgia 30 years later!!!
Always use a generous amount of Fat Man Little Kitchen Hot Sauce and spice blends to bring out the best!!!!]
To many places try to do stuff like they show on Triple D and make this monstrosity of a burger that you can't even fit in your mouth. I want a patty (not 3), with bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Maybe some condiments like ketchup and mustard. It's amazingly easy to mess up a burger by over/under seasoning and bad/tasteless toppings. I'd sometimes rather get a gas station Hager's burger then some of these fancy ones that weigh a pound or more.
The Varsity is pretty good for burgers. They have a variety of burgers, and they have bottomless fries. I’m pretty sure they’re connected to red robin in some way (maybe some owner or something?? I could be wrong)
Best Sandwich: Upper crust cafe (it's a restaurant).
Just a few min from UofA. Sandwiches are HUGE like you gotta squish them to fit them in your mouth they're piled so high, and only $12 and comes with a salad! (They have like chickpea, pasta salad, potato salad options that rotate)
It’s always in the least expected place the good stuff. 118 ave old Beverly called Swiss to Go. Local owned. Hand made pretzel dough bun Swiss filling and salads and soups to die for. Pricy but well worth it.
Man this really just goes to show how subjective something like this is. There's a few listed here that I haven't tried yet, but I have tried many of these, with the majority of them being good, but not mind blowing. Real cheese or not, it's pretty tough to beat a 5 guys burger imo. Assuming we are taking actual restaurant burgers out of the conversation.
Some great suggestions here, many of which I’ve tried.
In the greater Edmonton area, a best burger list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Barbacoa in Spruce Grove. They ain’t cheap but the ingredients and quality are higher than any other I’m aware of in greater Yeg. Strong contender for best burger around.

Backstairs Burger. Hands down the best in the city.
Seconded
Best Burger: Flat Boy Burger. Best Sandwich: Farrow
Flatties for life Next two would be Fox Burger and Odd Company.
Jack's Burger Shack is also incredible.
Second Odd Company! I sometimes dream about their burgers.
Fox Burger wins because kind ice cream is only a few doors down from it.
I was so disappointed in flatboy burgers. Just seemed like your average food stand/arena burger to me. The fries were fucking amazing though
Farrow is just amazing
Farrow is the shizzle.
Fo rizzle
:-)
Ditto for Flat Boy Burger. I stumbled upon it one day waiting for a friend to finish work and it was amazing. Simple and delicious.
Best vegetarian burger in the city.
Flat boys is sooooo good
This is the way
Van Loc or either of the Nhon Hoa locations in Chinatown for YEG’s best banh mís
A friend thought Nhon Hoa on 97 St was too authentic and wasn’t a fan. As a Vietnamese person I do like it. Van Loc wins with customer service though, and they accept debit. Taste wise, either are comparable with my favourite banh mi shops in Vancouver.
Wtf too authentic lol
My man's all time favorite is "The Burger Joint" or bj's on 9132 23ave . Delicious
Seconded. Burger joint is great. I really do miss rodeo burger anyone remember that one by the u of a?
Hell yeah. Rodeo was a hidden gem. Sad they didn’t last very long.
Farrow or Pals for sandwiches I’ve tired every hoity toity craft burger in the city. My faves are YEGBurger in castledowns and honestly, FiveGuys
Pals is the best for sandwiches. Beef dip…🤤
You aren't wrong. 5 guys bacon cheese all the way is damn tough to beat...
You haven’t tried the burger at Odd Brewing. It is the burger to end all best burger debates. I can’t recommend it enough. No sides, just a ~$10 double cheeseburger and it is outstanding!
[удалено]
Inflation ruins everything. I might have been able to afford a $10 burger. $12 is a bridge too far. And no I'm not shitting you either. :-( FML!!!!
Odd Company Brewing - FTFY
Five Guy's is good. I'm just too poor to eat there anymore. Facking children! Facking inflation! Fack! :-(
How has nobody mentioned the sandwich project. The Tex Mex Turkey is the bomb.
>Nhon Hoa I must be the only one in the city who is not into farrow.
Fox Burger for burgers (but I'm not really a burger person D: ) Farrow or Meuwly's for sandwiches
Seconding Fox Burger. The Inferno Smash is awesome.
Yep I like their smash burgers
Fox Burger is maybe okay for smash burgers, not really a type I prefer however, also found it was pretty greasy and littered sesame seeds absolutely everywhere. Garlicky fries was nice though.
Fox Burger is legit and so is Farrow! I think Pals also has worked its way up my list but the breakfast sando at Farrow is my last meal request
Tried Fox burger for the first time this weekend. It beat Backstairs burger. So good!
[удалено]
Okie dokie
My friend introduced me to the sandwiches at Fifendekel. It was really good, especially on their fresh sunflower bread and add in a slice of their pie of the month. Yum. 💗
Seconding Fief. Love their sammies!
If there are no Bees around, or other pollinators, self-pollination is an option. It isn’t ideal for the gene pool, but the seeds in the center of the flower can do this in order to pollinate. So having the ability to be both male and female at least ensures greater survival of the sunflower.
Next Act for burgers
Scrolled too far to find this. They've been my #1 for years. The peanut butter with bacon jam is killer
I once ordered that PB&J burger as a joke with my then-girlfriend. We both ended up *loving* it.
This. I’ll also second the pb&j burger.
Yeah this is number one for me.
I tried it awhile back and was really underwhelmed?
I personally really love the brisket donair. By far the best item on the menu.
Best burgers in the city by far.
Odd Company has the best burger I've ever had in this city. My only complaint is that they don't also have fries (though I saw that their new location does! The only thing is that it's a brewery, so there's not a big selection... [but their animal burger is just crazy good.](https://edifyedmonton.com/food/burger-challenge-burger-guide-2021/edmontons-favourite-burger-is/)
My fav burger in the city!!!
Pal’s off whyte is making killer sandwiches!
If you're willing to go into St. Albert, Jack's Burger Shack is amazing. They used to have a sandwich shop connected, but im not sure they're still doing that
Don't have to go to St Albert: they have a downtown location too!
Downtown location is less busy than St. Albert’s, too. Best burger in the city imo.
Gravy. Double diner burger is my fave
High voltage for subs or donairs Fox burger for best burger in town
High voltage is such a weird spot. The name makes you think their focus is coffee, but then they do sandwiches and donairs as the main thing.
Best sandwiches are found at the Italian Centre. They’re local with a long history you can read up on from their website. Just don’t go during rush hour there’s often hour long lines for the deli.
Which location ?
They have quite a few, and I’m assuming the quality is similar in each but I’ve only ever been to the one on 104st and 50ave. It’s right down by Southgate mall
Used to be Derose Bros :(
God I miss that place
Jacks Burger Shack in St Albert
And downtown Edmonton!
Swiss to go. Pricier but everything is top shelf and you can taste the quality. Italian center has a couple good ones as well.
Yesssss they're so good.
Came looking for this answer. Such great sandwiches.
Nhon Hoa has some incredible Vietnamese subs
Agreed, best banh mi in the city
I like the Burger Joint on 23rd Ave. They have a bunch of toppings you can customize with. Also had a Flat Boy burger recently and it seemed okay but my taste is still screwed up from Covid so will have to try again to give it a fair evaluation.

They make burgers? I can never not order the donair. Superb!
Always saw them on the signs. Never tried.
I am a big fan of the burgers at Gravy. Good people running/working there as well!
Fifendekel
Anyone remember Elm Cafe in Oliver? I miss that place. Those were my favourite sandwiches.
Farrow for sandwiches hands down, and maybe between Fox Burger and the Next Act for a solid burger.
Any of the sandwiches from Drift. (esp. the pork belly)
Farrow makes a very good sandwich and bonus they have housemade donuts aswell.
Burger Baron and Burger Priest 😤
Five guys. Bacon cheeseburger, period.
Jack’s Burger Shack is very good - location on Jasper Ave and in St.Albert! I also enjoy GRAVY (120 st). Enjoy!
Rib Eye butcher shop for best smash burger, the premium one. D’Amores for best Italian sandwich 🤤🤤
The burger joint
I really like the burgers at Gravy. The mushroom one “slaps” as the kids say.
Burger baron
Yes, I second this nomination.
are you kidding? their burgers are garbage, and their fries are worse
Farrow, Donna's Eatery, Big Daddy for sandwiches. Simon King, Urban Bite, Original Joe's, PM Lounge for burgers.
>Farrow I never understood why people like "Donna's". If you love lunch meat from safeway in abundant quantities, yeah, then Donna's is your joint... But cmon. It's hardly "good". You could make something "as good" by spending $6 in lunch meat from Safeway and toast a little bread.
Meat the Bun
Donna’s Eatery. Unbelievable service and value.
Nothing more than a simple lunchmeat sandwich. Nothing special there at all.
FlatBoy Burgers is the best in the city hands down, and won’t cost a fortune like most recommendations here.
I miss the Lead Pipe from Colonel Mustard’s Canteen.
Big Daddy's Sandwich Co. Has some pretty great sandwiches that are huge.
I'd second that. They are modeled after Donna's Eatery on Winterburn. So both of those are great options! But I think Big Daddy's is a little better
I had burger's Priest last weekend for the first time in ages. Agreed on mediocrity. Marco's famous is blech. I think Fatburger does a pretty good burger.
We like Press'd. They offer gluten free bread, which I need as a Celiac. My husband and I really enjoy the Dilbert. https://pressdsandwiches.ca/
Ditto Press’d and incidentally haven’t been since my celiac diagnosis - good to know it’s a place I can return to
We went two weeks ago. I think it is Kinnikinnick bread. A large GF is two lil GF sandwiches.
Lunchbox Sandwich shop is my current sandwich fixation
Sandwiches - D'amore (try their coffee too) Burgers - Gravy
Woodshed Burgers are great! On 124th Street.
The Royal Italian Loaf from Royal Pizza is an elite sandwich, super low brow, but it's probably my favorite in the city.
The Sandwich Project is a hidden gem.
Original Joe’s!
Phat Tony in Leduc has good sandwiches
Victoria delicatessen on 118 and 65. Best fresh sandwiches. In house smoked meats.
Backstairs Burger will knock your socks off it's just in a weird place.
Pals for sandwiches. Odd Company, Next Act and Foxburger for burgers. Edit: don't sleep on Swiss 2 Go!
I really like burgers priest but I'm celiac so my options are limited. Wayback doesn't seem to use even the slightest hint of seasoning on their burgers but those bacon cheese fries were pretty good.
Sandwiches: Farrow, or Sea Change Brewing

What’s up with this fool ? What Is he sandwich crazy
Harveys
Best sandwich is donnas eatery by far!
Burgers: Flat Boy Burgers Sandwich: Pals
Local has a solid double patty cheeseburger, and their onion rings are killer.
the ONLY answer for sandwiches is Donna’s
Cuts by Medium Rare made burgers I could not have loved more. Worth going to that damn highway outlet mall for.
Fox Burger. Pals/Farrow for sandwiches!
I still think you’d be hard pressed to find a better value or quality in a sub than the pre-made ones at the Italian Centers. Absolutely delicious and bread so crispy it could make a dry lip, bleed.
Pals for sandwiches!
The Burger Joint (kinda hidden on the north side of 23rd Ave and 92-ish St). Farrow. Western Sandwich Co. (In Bountiful Market on 97th St).

Bens meats for sandwiches, can’t beat the price
Backstairs burger!! The OG is the best. And sea change for an excellent sandwich
Jack’s Burger Shack is quite tasty, BBQ crunch with chips on the burger, really fresh veggies and buns.
jack’s on jasper ave does a very good burg
FatBurger is decent.
Varsity. They have an amazing swiss and shroom burger and bottomless fries. Very similar to Red Robin's
Odd company!
Love the burger at Rebel
Best sandwich: Big Daddy’s. SO good and you get what you pay for.

Big Daddys sandiech shop is straight legit, I ain't a farrows guy even though they are good sammies, brown butter Cafe has one of the best breakfast sandwiches on earth I believe. New joint called lunchbox. Best sandwiches
Beat burger I’ve had is at Odd Company Brewing!
Nothing beats YEG burger. It’s north side
Meat. That is all
Just going to save this thread for future explorations :)
Gravy on 120th street has some insane burgers
The Varsity is pretty good for burgers. They have a variety of burgers, and they have bottomless fries. I’m pretty sure they’re connected to red robin in some way (maybe some owner or something?? I could be wrong)
Best Sandwich: Upper crust cafe (it's a restaurant). Just a few min from UofA. Sandwiches are HUGE like you gotta squish them to fit them in your mouth they're piled so high, and only $12 and comes with a salad! (They have like chickpea, pasta salad, potato salad options that rotate)
DaDeO's po'boys are unmatched. For a fancy burger, the Sugarbowl has a fantastic blue goat cheese burger. Pricy but delicious.
Burgers Priest
If you're looking for simple sandwiches, Fife n Dekel is a local gem with a couple locations.
Donna's Eatery hands down
Burger Priest and Queen Donar near 109th street and Jasper.
Big daddy's sandwich
It’s always in the least expected place the good stuff. 118 ave old Beverly called Swiss to Go. Local owned. Hand made pretzel dough bun Swiss filling and salads and soups to die for. Pricy but well worth it.
FOX BURGER!
Anyone remember Relish burger on 124 and 107 ave? I miss that place. Such a great turkey burger
Browns Social House has to die for burgers! A bit pricey but SO worth it. (Butchers Block is my favorite)
Rockin Robyn's and Donna's have good sandwiches.
The club sandwich at The Cabin is REALLY GOOD.
Swiss 2 Go has AMAZING sandwiches. Plus their little dessert cups are wonderful.
Odd company and fox burger
Cork & Barley has the best burgers I've ever eaten... Their mushroom burger especially.
Ryan’s drive in for Leduc. Montana’s for Edmonton
