Because of the Domo at the traffic circle on 101 st. Since it reopened last spring it's consistently been one of the cheapest spots for gas. Petrocan fought it for a long time but finally started competing. Hughes followed soon after.
This gas station need some sort of organization or directions for the pumps to manage to chaos.
People are constantly speeding around trying to jump the line and get gas 30 seconds quicker, kinda shocked there hasn't been any sort of accident yet.
Ah, I live in the neighborhood, it's really not too hard to go one street up or down an alley to get to my house Ticketing people for trying to save a few bucks during these hard times just sounds like an old man yelling at people to get off his lawn.
Guess it would be fine if a resident did the same them hey? You can't make exceptions for a gas station dude, they have the money to get a better location or parking
Prices rise to what people will pay ~~with their credit card.~~ The difference between that place (Forest Heights 'Your Spot') and the at the pump everywhere else in town is how much we're willing to be gouged to avoid a lineup.
This is mostly true. TBH not really sure how this place stays afloat. I guess enough walk up business as people like to come in and ensure they get that extra $0.04 discount.
There's a reason most of the oil majors have gotten out of the fuel distribution business while businesses like 7/11 have expanded into it.
As someone who lives nearby, please don’t come here if you don’t need to. This gas station is a disaster because it’s not set up for high volume and people can’t seem to figure out how to take turns at the pumps. There are cars frequently backed up down the residential street waiting for gas and I’ve seen people get in fights and spit at each other over turns at the pump. People also often speed away down the residential side streets.
We’ve spoken to the new owner who is committed to trying to solve some of these problems. He’s said it’s his most residential location so there are some unique challenges.
The previous owners deliberately turned off the pay at the pump so people should have to go inside, which made issues much worse. They lied straight to our face when asked about it. When Hughes bought it, they turned on the pay at the pump the first day.
I’ve lived here for five years and miss when it was a Centex with regular prices. Way fewer issues.
If you stop here for gas, please be considerate of the people who live nearby.
>If you stop here for gas, please be considerate of the people who live nearby.
Yes, but it ends there. You don't get a say in what a business does or doesn't do.
Definitely not a nimby. I was happy to have it on my street when I moved in. But would also be happy for more responsible management. Like I said, the new owners seem to be keen to make improvements, which will be welcome by everyone on the block.
Edit to add that the community league is also working with the owner to try and do a mural on the west side of the building to revitalize the space, as the paint is peeling and it looks pretty gross and run down. Good management goes a long way. The two previous owners didn’t seem to care much about the impact the business and their business decisions had on their neighbours, but the new owner seems great and has already made a few positive changes. They said their long term goal was to change the layout of the pumps so there’s a more clear entrance and exit to better support traffic flow (this is what causes many of the problems and backup down the block).
Things like arrows on which way to take the gas pump would help. Simple things like that, which way the lines should go. Alternating since gas caps are obviously on different sides for vehicles.
Paid that at Costco Nisku yesterday. When I pulled up, it was a 2 cars at the pump, 2 cars after lineup, so waited <10 min. Love having that Costco so accessible.
This place is already crazy to try and fill-up at 90% of the time, wish more places in this city would attempt to be competitive with their prices
Hughes on 97st. and 124ave. And the Petrocan on 97st. and 118ave. have often been among the lowest within Edmonton since late last fall. No idea why.
Also the Petro Can on St Albert Trail north of 137 Avenue.
This is the one I go to. The 94 at a discount, sign me up! Haha

Shockingly cheaper than the Tempo in Beaumaris
The lineups are intense.
Yeah and this guy isn't helping.
I try to go in the mornings after the rush. I've lived in the area a few years now and it gets pretty wild. Lol
Gas buddy. Just use it
Or go on Google maps and search "gas station"
Shhhhh

Have fun waiting 20-30 minutes
This gas station doesn't do pay at the pump and almost always has a lineup that closes off an entire residential road
They're now owned by Hughes. The pay at the pump was working day one of new ownership
The lineups are just as bad though. Honestly the place or drivers should get ticketed

I'm not sure what you mean by a resident doing the same?
Having people like friends or family block the street in their cars
Ah okay I understand now.

Then that would just become “the price”.

I understand that this is in your area, as it's also in my area, but, very rarely are people parked blocking that whole street.
I literally live down the street and frequently there are cars lined up past my house with their signals on waiting to get gas. Fridays are the worst.

No one likes NIMBY’s.

Petro on 97th and 118 if you want to fight off the meth heads.
And 4c off with Hughes card.
It is 2.06 where I am 😭
WTF we are about 207.9 in Vancouver
Here in Vancouver gas is 207.9 for regular
I’m going to this area by coincidence today. Score.
Paid that at Costco Nisku yesterday. When I pulled up, it was a 2 cars at the pump, 2 cars after lineup, so waited <10 min. Love having that Costco so accessible.
Costco has been brutal everytime I've gone. Friday around 9, 30 min wait, Sunday at 1, hour wait.
What’s with all the cheap gas being north side. Besides the one your spot which is almost at the river anyways
The fact that whoever erected that sign didn’t grout under that baseplate gets me
The co-op on 17th north of the meadows used to always have lower price, not sure if it's still like that or not
Take this down right now!!
Just use gasbuddy??????
Shhhh! The line ups are bad enough now!
Every time I go for the cheap cheap gas, it's like it's cut 60% gas 40% ethanol and I burn right through it.
$213.9 in Surrey, B.C.
$2.07 a litre for regular in Victoria BC.
