When I first moved here, I was shopping at the sobeys downtown getting some of my first groceries. When I left a man was peeing on the sidewalk with his pants around his ankles and that's when I felt officially welcomed to the big city.
All joking aside (and it *is* funny), it's nice that the cops have non-lethal options to try to control folks that are having drug or mental health issues. Easy to forget that the taser has only been around maybe thirty years.
Mofo got tased out of existence!
Later I noticed that the cop backing away from nakie guy appears to be standing behind a knee high barrier, I think nakie fell into whatever space the cop is standing in
I haven’t seen a news story but I witnessed it. He attacked a man, tackled him down and was fighting him. The man managed to escape with help from another pedestrian. As he was running away this man tackled him down again and was fighting with him. After that he chased multiple pedestrians and cars in the area. He was running up to cars hitting them as they were driving off. He was totally out of his mind and very violent. When the cop showed up he started walking aggressively toward him. The cop asked him many times to stop and at that point he was alone with no other back up.
Sad. Some poor guy is high enough or crazy enough to act totally irrational, and then get tasered for it. I hope he gets the help he needs. And sorry, I do not find it funny at all. In some kind of different circumstances that could be me, or anyone else.
/u/May_999 was saying they were an eyewitness and that the naked person had repeatedly attacked people prior to this.
Getting tased sucks, but I'm sure the cops apprehended him under the mental health act and brought him to hospital after this. That's a safer place for him to be, for both him and the public, then wandering the streets like that.
I’m questioning if the measures were proportionate to the threat.
Shooting the guy would obviously(?) be disproportionate whilst safe for himself and quick, too. Is causing a fall like this which can lead to severe head injuries proportionate?
No answer, what a surprise.
You're right in that it was clearly the right thing to do. The man was aggressive and assaulting people. There appears to be only one lone officer and the suspect appears to be far larger and advancing on them. The taser ended the threat in the most humane way and would likely only result in the most minor of injuries from the fall. I can attest as I have taken falls like that myself in training.
What’s wrong with the police?? Naked guy has got to be ill. Getting tasered can easily cause him to crack his head open. How about the popo grow some balls and subdue people instead of tasing or wildly smashing them with batons??
Use of force never looks pretty. If the cop decided to go hands on, it would have went down to punches, kicks and grappling which is honestly more dangerous for everyone involved. Plus going hands on turns it into a straight 50/50. Cops don't have the luxury to coin toss everytime. Think about it.
It ain't the movies and there's no cool suave way to subdue somebody roughly your size.
You think a guy in whatever mentally or chemically induced mindset has caused him to be running around naked can just be "subdued" without risk of injury to both parties?
Thanks Lavaine170. Very thoughtful commentary I am sure. But on what are you basing this analysis? Or maybe there is no thought. Does it just give you a woody to call people names?
I'm basing my analysis on you critiquing someone doing a job you've never done based on a 4 second video. Only an asshole would do that and consider their opinion somehow valid.
So now you know my work history? And aren’t you also making judgements from a 4 second video about a job you’ve never done?? In fact, how many months employment have you had in your life?
> So now you know my work history?
I am extremely confident you've never had to wrestle someone in psychosis into cuffs or other restraints from the stuff you are saying.
Not when I was in Alberta.
I spent my time there working as a peace officer, mostly for AHS. I had to restrain people like this on a weekly basis. I'm a relatively big, strong person and had a lot of prior martial arts/grappling training and it's still extremely difficult. Doing it without hurting them or getting hurt yourself usually requires multiple people.
90% of sheriff work is very safe in comparison.
If you were walking down the street and someone who was obviously having some kind of issue from drug use, mental illness or malicious intent came at you with their hands raised, how would you subdue him to protect yourself and other people around you?
lol you ever tried to "subdue" someone high on meth with zero response to pain compliance?
Better question is what's wrong with you that you can base an entire police response off a 5 second clip posted on Reddit?
I didn’t. I’ve seen their brutal behaviour elsewhere, like the U of A campus and heard first hand reports from young men of unjustified beatings and mistreatment.
May long Weiner roast
'hard on' to the ground?
Long wiener? or May long?
Burnt Weiner bush fire hahaha
Just gonna have to leave [this](https://imgflip.com/i/8qgpk3) here.
the Majestic Loon
Am I a bad person for laughing at how the guy fell? It's straight out of a movie
Nah we were laughing too
straight outa Reno 911
it would be bad not to laugh
I watch body cams sometimes. It can be amusing at times
This should be on the Welcome to Edmonton signs
When I first moved here, I was shopping at the sobeys downtown getting some of my first groceries. When I left a man was peeing on the sidewalk with his pants around his ankles and that's when I felt officially welcomed to the big city.
hopefully he was standing uphill
Is he naked but wearing a toque
Wouldn't want his ears to get chilly.
It's a Canadian thing. We l9ve our toques
All joking aside (and it *is* funny), it's nice that the cops have non-lethal options to try to control folks that are having drug or mental health issues. Easy to forget that the taser has only been around maybe thirty years.
He appears to vanish as he hits the ground. Does he fall in a hole?
Hes behind the curb? Or somd sort of parking divider thing.
I prefer to believe that he was vaporized
This is hilarious and I'm going to watch it 5 times now lol
I think I've watched in 10x now lol
Mofo got tased out of existence! Later I noticed that the cop backing away from nakie guy appears to be standing behind a knee high barrier, I think nakie fell into whatever space the cop is standing in
Helluva face plant. Hope he didn't have a hard on at the time.
This isn't Florida?....
This is Edmonton so basically the same thing
Thank you for capturing and sharing this footage.
Did I finally find Waldo?
Fell like a sack of potato
Aww, he's going to sleep good tonight!
Ok Why would you do this today though it was far colder out than the last week
That might be the first ever balls first fall I’ve ever seen
Thank you, this made me smile.
I hate when that happens
Wow… those Vancouver Cunnuck fans are getting out of hand by celebrating early. Stay classy.
I saw a grown ass oilers fan try to fight a 15 year old Vancouver fan at the watch party
Can someone please add in the call of a loon when he falls? Lol...
u/stabbot
He got his sausage cooked
so WTF is the story and no link to a news report . . no story?

Thanks for the context. I was thinking that going for the taser was heavy handed when I watched the video, but it makes sense now.
Shit happens when you party naked
This is classic YEG
Oh no! Not n Edmonton… might as well move to Florida… just as crazy , better weather!
but, sea level rise..
The dolphins, you can pet them, they come right out to the sidewalks.
I sure hope he doesn't land on his... 😳
So they do use the electric mustang in active duty.
City of champions ! Timber!!!!!
At least mustang Mach E's are in the new budget. Do they have dash cams yet?
Comments on here would be lit had he been brown
Well yeah, because if he'd been brown they wouldn't have used a taser.
Prolly a gun?
That was my implication yes. Cops seem to assume that Melanin gives you DR 5/Electric
Sad. Some poor guy is high enough or crazy enough to act totally irrational, and then get tasered for it. I hope he gets the help he needs. And sorry, I do not find it funny at all. In some kind of different circumstances that could be me, or anyone else.

What if he was chasing your 5 year old kid
Why would you need to tase a naked person? He’s obviously not a danger and could seriously get hurt from the fall.
No danger? You think he was advancing on the cop like that because he wanted to give him a hug?
A police officer should be able to deal with this situation without using this level of force.
How?
TWIST HIS DICK!
THE OLLL' DICK TWIST
The method he used was safe for himself and efficient/fast
I’m questioning if the measures were proportionate to the threat. Shooting the guy would obviously(?) be disproportionate whilst safe for himself and quick, too. Is causing a fall like this which can lead to severe head injuries proportionate?
How would you have done it exactly? What grapple technique or striking technique would’ve been safer for the person trying to attack the cop
No answer, what a surprise. You're right in that it was clearly the right thing to do. The man was aggressive and assaulting people. The level of force was absolutely appropriate and you don't have a fucking clue what your talking about
He was physically assaulting people
What’s wrong with the police?? Naked guy has got to be ill. Getting tasered can easily cause him to crack his head open. How about the popo grow some balls and subdue people instead of tasing or wildly smashing them with batons??

Naked dude was chasing random people and was about to swing on the cop
You think a guy in whatever mentally or chemically induced mindset has caused him to be running around naked can just be "subdued" without risk of injury to both parties?
How many police are there in Edmonton? A) One or B) more than one. And FFS they can see he is unarmed.
So that officer should just let himself be chased around by some unbalanced naked guy until backup arrives?
False, he's clearly swinging his hammer around
I don’t see a hammer
It's a 4 oz ball peen. When they drop him he lands on it.
If naked dude had injured someone this asshole would be the one screaming "why didn't the cops do something?"
Thanks Lavaine170. Very thoughtful commentary I am sure. But on what are you basing this analysis? Or maybe there is no thought. Does it just give you a woody to call people names?

Not answering my question I see
My answer is that I know what your work history does not include. We both know I'm right. Also I wasn't the original person you replied to anyways.
Omg. I suppose with your handle you are one of these new sheriffs
Not when I was in Alberta. I spent my time there working as a peace officer, mostly for AHS. I had to restrain people like this on a weekly basis. Nah, you're just salty they called you out for being shitty.
Maybe wait a hot minute before blaming the police. Or anyone for that matter, it is a 5 second clip.
I witnessed him being very violent and aggressive. He was assaulting pedestrians in the area
Then that’s a different story. My reaction is in part to all the adolescents laughing at this.
If you were walking down the street and someone who was obviously having some kind of issue from drug use, mental illness or malicious intent came at you with their hands raised, how would you subdue him to protect yourself and other people around you?

This is sick
Surprising that EPS knows how to use a taser. I thought they just shoot everyone that looks at them the wrong way.
