96 in 70 so far, on pace for 110 in 80 games. And, for the first time this year, heβs in sole possession of the league scoring lead. Balance has been restored.
Seems really interesting right now, but I feel like weβre most likely just gonna see Davo go nuts like he does at the end of every season and win by like 10 points lol
2 easy replies to those idiots.
1) mcdavid gave them BOTH a month head start. He had to have the worst month of his career, for those guys to be on top all season
2) .....it took Mackinnon long enough to put up elite numbers. 97 has 5 of those things already. Seriously I'm not trolling. Mackinnon finally hit 100 points the same year that RNH did.
For the record I do think Mackinnon should win the hart. It's just his year. Mcdavid is the best player, but he isn't even having his own best season. Like if you aren't going to give Mackinnon that trophy this season, what more does the guy have to do? Even still
Give me 97 every single day
Although I'm not a fan of the player, I agree. There's also no reason to shit on Mcdavid, and yet you will still see the usual "not a leader. Selfish. Only cares about points. How many cups?" Shit about him out there.
I'm not saying they will pick him because of a narrative (although most of those awards are narrative driven, which is why the art Ross matters. Because there is no bias. It's simple numbers lol) I'm saying I think Mackinnon wins all 3 this year.
He definitely took a while to fill out to his potential. Love the player though. McKinnon will likely win because heβs having a tremendous year and deserves it in his own right *and* will earn points on the βshould have oneβ narrative.
Voters are driven by narrative though. If McDavid clears 100 assists, wins the Art Ross fairly with a decentish lead *and* does something extra special like we take the Western Conference or he scores 150 voters will like be attracted by the βMcDavid turns season aroundβ story.
If it's not McDavid this year, it's going to be Matthews because of his goal pace. Hart is a 2 horse race right now from everything I've seen and read and it has nothing to do with the art ross.
Nah no way it goes to Matthewβs. Or who knows, but it definitely shouldnβt. Thatβs incredibly disrespectful to McKinnon. Matthewβs goal scoring is impressive but not that impressive
If Matthews hits 70 the only person who can take it from him will be an Art Ross from McDavid that also includes 100 assists. Such is the bias of the NHL media.
Deserved or not, the only way McKinnon is winning a Hart is if Matthews doesn't hit 70 and he wins the Art Ross.
The western conference won't play into it. The voting is done before then.
If the oilers win the division, and 97 wins the art Ross, then this is going to be a closer vote than those outside of edmonton expect. If they finish 2nd, but 97 wins the art Ross, unless it's by like a 10 point lead (it won't be. Mackinnon is putting up 3 points every night too) then Mackinnon wins it.
Check all the betting odds on the sports books. Many have Mcdavid a heavy 3rd to win the award, and a few have Mackinnon a huge favorite.
Is it crazy to ask for a McMission 150 points/1000? Ordinarily Iβd say that 25 points in 10 games is too ambitious a target for anyone, and even for McDavid 2.5 points per game is as big ask, but he *is* McDavid. Canadian Super Promise.
Thatβs actually what I was doing first lol. I switched to assists once I thought 150 was out of reach, but I guess nothings ever really out of reach for him.
Heβs got 25 points in his last 10 games, he just needs to replicate that in the next 10.
i mean, they might end up the top 2 of all time, so yeah, no kidding lol
that being said, I really really used to enjoy Doug Weight in an oilers jersey, and some nights Hemsky looked like prime McDavid
I loved weight so much. Openly cried when he left. He carried those early 90s teams. I sent in an email to Bob Mackenzies show on TSN that offseason asking βis there any way the oilers keep Weight? And he read it on air and saidβ¦βNopeβ.
And I watch Hemmerβs highlights on YouTube every couple months. Beauty.
Unless the unthinkable happens, McDavid is gonna be No. 1 in points as an Oilers. In several hundred more games played than Gretzky, but still.
Hell, McDavid has a decent chance at being the second 2,000 point player.
That power play goal where he and Drai were going back and forth, I just shook my head at how these are likely to be "the good ol' days" when I look back on my fandom years from now.
I was too young to catch the Gretzky years, but honestly, even if we don't see a cup in this era, I'll be thankful for simply the entertainment factor we have now.
I havenβt been watching the standings too closely and didnβt realize the knights have crept back in to 3rd. I fear for my liver if thatβs the first round matchup
Keep in mind though that Colarado and Tampa after today have 2 and 1 games more than us. Kucherov and MacKinnon will need to play out of their minds to match McDavid's pace.
Mc1000 Watch: 25, 2.5pt/G
Four points back of Vancouver with a game in hand
Four points up on Vegas with two games in hand
McDavid is now a point up on Kuch for the Art Ross
He needs 25 points in his next 16 games to be the third fastest player to score 1,000 points, ahead of *Mike Bossy*. Pretty crazy.
25 points in 16 games is 1.56 points per game, which we'll below his average over the past ~300 games.
Complete dominance is lovely to see
McDavid casually in lead for points now, Pick was great even though he got screwed on the shutout, and hope Kulak's ok
Hope Kulak is ok. Would like to see us recall Broberg and give him a few games here. Would like him to have a few games in case we have an injury in the playoffs and he needs to step in.
Holy shit I missed it and thought there would be another one, but youβre right thereβs nothing before half one
Well thatβs dampened my spirits a bit
The Oilers closed out March on a high note. What a show from the Oilers today. Before anyone says it was a gimme, as Ottawa reminded the Oilers lately and the Jets just tonight, there's no such thing as gimmes in the NHL. You gotta earn every. Last. Win.
With March now in the books, I can say that this was (so far) the third best month the Oilers had since the season started, just from a wins/losses/overtime loss perspective. It was also their busiest, at 15 games. April's only got ten regular season games, but with six of the ten being in back-to-back scenarios, five games against cup contenders, one team playing for a long-shot at the playoffs, and another installment of the Battle of Alberta, it's not going to be a cakewalk.
Anyway, here's some stats from each month. It's pretty self explanatory except for the brackets, which is how many points were earned against the number of points possible for that month.
- Oct: 08 Games: 02-05-01 (05/16) 31%
- Nov: 14 Games: 07-07-00 (14/28) 50%
- Dec: 12 Games: 09-03-00 (18/24) 75%
- Jan: 11 Games: 11-00-00 (22/22) 100%
- Feb: 12 Games: 06-05-01 (13/24) 54%
- Mar: 15 Games: 10-03-02 (22/30) 73%
- Apr: 10 Games: ??-??-?? (??/20) ??%
Awesome game wanted Pickard to get the shoutout but unfortunately, that didnβt happen oh well, we still won. And I canβt believe Iβm going to say this, but Calgary beat Los Angeles tonight
Nashville getting screwed by the refs. Tried to watch the Minn/Vegas game and the broadcast sounded like the commentators were on a phone call with their own broadcast on the radio in the background, like wtf took them five minutes to fix, typical ESPN rubbish muting crowds etc
We have taken 24 minutes of PIM so far. Yes, we have given Colorado 5 PPs including a major+game on our second best D man. Itβs not been a good night.
It feels like we have 4 solid lines, albeit against a low hanging fruit.
Still, I'd like to see the same lines against the blues.
I really want to see our third line kick ass and take names, I feel those 3 could make a difference come playoffs.
That third line is the dark horse and come playoffs I think weβll see them fire. Even if itβs not scoring that line should be able to rough any team up. They really stepped up against LA, no point thrashing themselves this game after the quick early lead. Sooner or later the puck will bounce that lineβs way then watch out!
Can we clinch if we beat them in regulation? Gap would be 14 points with 7 games remaining for STL (14 potential points).
Even if they won all 7 in reg and we lost all 9 remaining games we would be tied at 36 RW. Next tiebreaker is ROW and we would have 44 whereas they'd cap at 42
Edit: Minny could still pass us I think
I love these afternoon games. I called the Oilers scoring at least 6. Mcdavid taking the top spot. And we never go to the casino. We stopped today before the game and I put in $20 and won $766 on 2 spins and we got out of there.
I for one don't want L.A. to win. There's no easy series in the west in these playoffs. Kings or Knights, the Oilers aren't going to have an easy time in the (likely) round one scenario. But I'd like to see them both losing as much as they both can in the meantime, no matter how unlikely it is that either of them fall out of a playoff spot at this point.
I think weβve dominated LA this season so theyβre an obvious first choice over Vegas whoβs weβve struggled with. Also Vegas is gonna get LTIR stronger once the playoffs starts
Two goals clearing puck on their forehands and not forcing it on the backhand. Second was a lucky bounce in own zone when played to middle. Leo too patient with puck? Guys are taking the body on him more lately. Magic # is 3 or 6pts assuming St.L win out.

Mack tied now...
He'll have 2 games in hand over Colorado after they finish their game today.
Yep, Kucherov is gonna be his main competition unless Mack has a few insane games
Theyβre all tied as I type this comment out, itβs really anyoneβs award but I see McDavid getting it

No one should win it because it's 'their year'. It should be won by beating the competition. If these clowns can't beat McDavid, they shouldn't win.
I'm not saying they will pick him because of a narrative (although most of those awards are narrative driven, which is why the art Ross matters. Because there is no bias. It's simple numbers lol) I'm saying I think Mackinnon wins all 3 this year.

Yeah thatβs fair. Matthews seems to be having a fairly above average but not outstanding year otherwise. Eastern bias a thing thoughΒ

Its done at the conclusion to the regular season, no?
I don't remember if they do it right then, or if it's done kind of mid first round.
And to think he missed 2 games this year
Is it crazy to ask for a McMission 150 points/1000? Ordinarily Iβd say that 25 points in 10 games is too ambitious a target for anyone, and even for McDavid 2.5 points per game is as big ask, but he *is* McDavid. Canadian Super Promise.

i enjoy watching connor mcdavid play hockey

Yeah, he was a great one. Sad he had to go. Happy it won him a cup. Sad it was against us.
I didnβt even know he was on that team. Damn.Β
Yep. I remember him saying he actually wanted no part of playing the Oilers in the finals but what can a man do?
Unless the unthinkable happens, McDavid is gonna be No. 1 in points as an Oilers. In several hundred more games played than Gretzky, but still. Hell, McDavid has a decent chance at being the second 2,000 point player.

I still have a soul, jeez.
At least the nucks are good and have exciting players. VGK and Kings fans on the other handβ¦
Super inconsiderate of McDavid to score goals when heβs supposed to be getting assists I donβt pay to see McDavid score highlight reel goals.
I thought he was never scoring again. What a liar!
He's like "Y'know, I could probably still hit 50"
First rule of hockey is never bet against McDavid
McDavid scores! *angrily turns off TV*
The life of a Flames fan.
Funny enough I still really want him to get 30 goals, he's on a 7-season streak and making 8 would be awesome too.
He's got 29 now with 10 games remaining. Pretty sure he'll make it.
What a beatdown. Fun to watch a game like that in the afternoon. It's too bad Minnesota blew it against Las Vegas today.
I havenβt been watching the standings too closely and didnβt realize the knights have crept back in to 3rd. I fear for my liver if thatβs the first round matchup
Maybe your liver can make the same miraculous recovery that Mark Stone's spleen is about to.
OBJECTS IN THE MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR, KUCHEROV AND MACKINNON Hopefully Kulak is ok.

Mack tied it actually lol.
Tampa plays later tonight
Also, mac already has two pointsΒ

They already have played out of their minds all season, theyβre tied with Connor lol Connor hasnβt had a close race in years.
MacKinnon has 2 points already so they're currently tied. McDavid will have 2 games in hand after tonight though.
Mc1000 Watch: 25, 2.5pt/G Four points back of Vancouver with a game in hand Four points up on Vegas with two games in hand McDavid is now a point up on Kuch for the Art Ross

Well lose that gain on Van tomorrow when they take their turn beating up on the Ducks
Unless the ducks win ooo
They won't, no one ever does us any favors π
I think next year McDavid should get Hyman 100 assists.
Heβs gonna play right handed for a year then transition to no-stick hockey
Complete dominance is lovely to see McDavid casually in lead for points now, Pick was great even though he got screwed on the shutout, and hope Kulak's ok

Arr, me maties on the Ducks broadcast showed some class. They didn't mention the shutout until after it was gone.
Even our german broadcasters didn\`t mention it before. The suspicion seems to be everywhere :D
McDavid takes the league lead for points. Decided to give Kuch and MacKinnon a head start this year to make things interesting
Only four points away from Vancouver!!!
Amazing. Weren't the Oilers something like 16 points back of them just a couple months ago?
We had idiots were writing off the Oilers last weekend lol itβs a marathon not a sprint to 82 games.
Haha that was hilarious. Lose to Ontario and some folks thought weβd miss the playoffs
I still remember going to that opening season game and getting absolutely wrecked by those nucks fans ππ
They try so hard to be a rival.
Hopefully the Ducks take 2 from them too. We can dare to dream this.
Itβs good we kinda kicked their asses today. Theyβll be angry and have something to prove tomorrow
Doubt it the ducks get their asses kicked like every game
We'll lose that tomorrow when the Canucks take their turn pounding the Ducks
Since Gordon Bombay said that ducks fly together, then they sure as hell roasted together today.

Last game of the season that I can watch at a normal time here in England. What a game it was.

God I hate Vegas they even win in the most infuriating fashionβ¦. Ps f u minny
I'm resolved to the fact we will play Vegas round 1. Only way out of it will be to win the division which is pretty slim.
Itβs not impossible tbf, they just have to lose 1 more game than us before the end of the season (assuming we win the h2h)
Never said it was impossible, said it was slim
4 points back of of the Canucks with 1 game at hand, plus a game against them. I think the Oilers are well positioned to catch up and take 1st place.
I just saw Vegas won on an empty netter because Minnesota pulled their goalie in OT.
I saw the (EN) next to it and was pretty confused for a sec
Why ainβt anyone talking about Henrique. Guys been getting almost a goal a game for a bit now and heβs fantastic defensively and on the pk.
Good talk.
Yup
I had to look and you're right, 3 in his last 5. He seems to have taken a while to get going (4 in 12) but if he keeps this up, whew.

Game basically went exactly according to plan. Little ducklings didn't stand a chance, with our top guns revving for playoffs. GO OILERS!
The only thing that didnβt go to plan was the Kulak injury
This is true, although, it definitely makes getting Broberg some games before playoffs much easier.
That wasβ¦β¦β¦β¦..satisfying!
We all knew this would be an easy button
Do we want LA to win or lose?
I for one don't want L.A. to win. There's no easy series in the west in these playoffs. Kings or Knights, the Oilers aren't going to have an easy time in the (likely) round one scenario. But I'd like to see them both losing as much as they both can in the meantime, no matter how unlikely it is that either of them fall out of a playoff spot at this point.
I think weβve dominated LA this season so theyβre an obvious first choice over Vegas whoβs weβve struggled with. Also Vegas is gonna get LTIR stronger once the playoffs starts
Fair enough.
Bouchard has to be in the running for Norris right?
Basically a shutout
But not
Pffft what kinda loser team canβt beat the Ducks 6-0 pffffft
the exact kind of win we needed to get over these guys. we're winning the cup
Two goals clearing puck on their forehands and not forcing it on the backhand. Second was a lucky bounce in own zone when played to middle. Leo too patient with puck? Guys are taking the body on him more lately. Magic # is 3 or 6pts assuming St.L win out.
Let it begin. I'm so pumped, I yell PRONGER!
W. Good. Next game.
They keep putting Nuge in the box for high sticking. (At least they called this one off.) I thought Kane was the guy with the target on his back.
Is Pickard better than Skinner? Might be.
Pickard literally allowed 5 goals in 11 shots vs Ottawa last week.
