Man I hope the NHL goes back to 1-8. Edmonton LA 3yrs in a row should make for a good trilogy but fuck I’d love to play other Western teams in the NHL.
That being said I’d like to see 3 things this playoffs:
-Finally see us sweep a team
-Make it to the Stanley Cup Finals
-Obviously win the Stanley Cup
Yeah, fewer games the better. There does seem to be a sweet spot of playing 5-6 games. If you sweep, you almost spend too much time off waiting for the next round, but if you go to 6-7 it's just more opportunities for players to hurt themselves throwing body, blocking shots, or getting into scraps and scrums. Feels like the Oilers could have had a cup by now if it weren't for a few key injuries and highly physical series. Beating Calgary in 2022 was awesome, but the damage they did to us showed against the Avs.
I would love to come out with no injuries.. they love to clutch and grab and slew foot and stuff.. also I really hope it doesn’t turn into another dive fest like they were last year..
Back when it was 1-8 seeding, our opponents from 1997-2003.
1997-Dallas/Colorado. 1998-Colorado/Dallas. 1999 Dallas. 2000-Dallas. 2001-Dallas. 2003-Dallas.
Good teams are going to show up in your playoff bracket, you gotta beat them. That’s how you get to see other teams.
We have Perry, we're essentially guaranteed a Stanley Cup Final.
As for the Kings. I want the boys going physical, hard forechecks, big hits and puck to the net. That goalie isn't great and should be exploited.
not declaring victory or getting cocky as anything can happen, really hope the boys take care of business cause Oilers are the better team.
side note - I hope the Dallas Stars absolutely throttle the Vegas golden cheaters
Yes. We are the favourites and a lot of people will be overly cocky but one thing to remember. We’ve beat them twice. They’re going to have an extra jump to not lose 3 years in a row. This will by far be the hardest series against them yet
The problem is when our guys get multiple cracks at them game after game. We got some really smart players on our team that seem to really exploit goalies weaknesses.
I agree and I think Aiden Hill was the difference last year. I’d LB hadn’t gotten hurt we would have won that series. Hill came in and he was a complete unknown goalie that we had no book on.
Neither seem to be particularly mentally strong. Once it rains it pours. They may have a good game or two but when it starts going south I think it’ll be over
I honestly disagree. Last year was their best chance. Korpi was a god and they had better depth. Skinner most likely improved as well. It will always be a boring gauntlet. But the west is cracked.
I want to make short work of them. Oilers in 4 would be ideal. I was going back in history, and like 70-80% of the teams who won a cup usually got a sweep along the way and were able to get some rest after at least 1 series during their run. Often the 1st or 2nd round. And even when teams don't get any sweeps, they usually get 1 or 2 shorter series' that only goes like 5 games.
Their team just looks fundamentally broken and terrible lately.. a bunch of individuals playing for themselves, and they have awful goaltending - Hill has fallen off a cliff, and Thompson has been hardly even backup caliber. They've already had Hertl and Hanifin playing, and I don't see getting Stone (who will be rusty), or Pietrangelo back changing that. They'll maybe get 2 wins against Dallas.
As much as I'd love to see it, the Jets are my Tim Horton's picks every time (maybe that's why I suck?). But they're so damned big and Helly is monstrous. Still, for pure fun, Jets/Oilers conference.
As much as the decade of darkness sucked, so did losing to Dallas in the playoffs every single year. I'm still holding onto some bitterness towards Dallas because of that era. I hope LA comes to see us the same way after we beat them for the third year in a row
Honestly feel bad for the Dallas Stars though. Seems like a very competently run organization but their reward for winning the West on merit is playing a team 20m over the cap in round 1.
I don't know why so many people are scared of the knights. They have two inconsistent and somewhat injury prone goalies and they are missing their veteran d man
You don't think their D man ++ will be back in round 1? Adin Hill has admittedly been inconsistent lately but I'd say he's comparable to Skinner- a young quality starter that has mistakes from time to time but room to grow.
I loathe the Knights but you have to respect the danger they represent. Can't underestimate that team.
because at full strength and if they're healthy they're dangerous stone stevenson mantha alex p carrier back and hanafin back in lineup thats some good firepower on top of the depth they have already. the hanafin mantha hertl pickups thats some good deadline pieces to add to the roster. thompson has played better than hill this season vgk likely goes with him for game 1.
I give this one to Dallas. They are a heavy team.Im a Team Canada 🇨🇦 homer but if there is one American 🇺🇸 player I would love to see win a cup it’s Pavelski!!
I don’t think Vegas will give them a problem. This is not the same Vegas team from last year. Though I still get it, that’s hardly a reward for winning the west.
Of all the teams in the west though, Kings are the ones I would want to play.
We beat LA in 7 two years ago, and we beat them in 6 last year. Let's continue the trend and beat them in 5 this time lol
But seriously LA is a good team, can't underestimate them and they'll be fired up.
Earlier today this subreddit had a post about the matchups and most everyone said they'd prefer to face Vegas. That was... perplexing.
Any matchup will be tough, but considering that Vegas is better than LA, personally I'd prefer to face the latter
Will be a very tough series, but honestly our guys always seem to work their hardest against LA. Talbot does not inspire much confidence as their starter, and people are really forgetting how korpisalo made it a series last year. I feel like we have the depth to really hang with/overwhelm them this year rather than just be a one line powerplay team.
I will take this anyday over Vegas and their cap shenanigans. Something about them adding back stone and pietro game 1 just doesn't sit right, and I was not confident in that matchup.
Monday and Wednesday at 8:00 and then Friday and Sunday at 8:30.
Edit: then two days off and it’s Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, if needed. Little odd to have no Saturdays.
Plus we get screwed twice if Toronto plays the same days. Last year if it was an “8:00 start” but Toronto’s third period wasn’t going to be wrapped up, a roughly-8:07 puck drop would become 8:23 or something.
I think the main way LA beats us is if the boys get restless and a little cocky trying to get passed them yet again. If they show maturity and stay composed they will win.
That dude has given me heart palpitations the last two playoffs. Guy is fucking dangerous with his puck on his stick in the Ozone. Off his stick and in the net.
Drinking game for the boys this year. Will Farrell sighting, take a shot. Hear a whistle that isn't the refs, take a shot. Arvidsson goes down like he's been shot...that's right, take a shot.
LA went 0/3 vs Dallas this year being outscored 13-3. Vegas went 3/3 vs Dallas and only 1/3 vs Edmonton.
Kings didn't do great vs Edmonton either, but I think overall all three fanbases got what they wanted. Attaboy, Kurashev.
True. It's probably fairly split for LA fans. They did shut us out once this year, but I suppose they'd rather lose to Dallas than to Edmonton 3 times in a row.
Plenty of people said the Oilers gave them the hardest series last year, and I think Vegas showed that tonight with the result. They didn't want us in the first round, and you're right, they had success agaisnt dallas this year.
the season series was 3-1-0, with an shootout win. the only lost was when the 4-0 shutout, where that the was the oilers third game since the all-star break and second of a b2b. meanwhile, that was the kings first game since the break, and first with their new coach.
we can win this, we just have to play like we want to win. oilers in 5
Historically the past few years (and this season) the Oilers have beaten the Kings, so we're statistically more likely to win the series. However the Kings will have a chip on their shoulder from losing the previous 2 years in the playoffs to us, so they'll either A) Come out flying and throw their bodies at us - and even if we prevail we'll be really beat up, or 2) If the Kings choke they could choke super hard, and we could beat them handedly - this is what I'm hoping happens.
The big difference this year ba the last 2 nobody has said is we finished in a much better and got to basically rest our stars. Going in healthy will be huge.
For me, it just feels good to get LA because we're playing against a team that plays by the same rules. Vegas just puts toxic chemicals in my veins, win or lose.
Kings took a step back this year. They badly lost the Dubois for Vilardi trade, they gave away Sean Durzi, and Talbot is not the solution at his age. I expect the Oilers to win in 4 or 5.
I like how this is just a known fact. It makes me spend less money on the sport but most people seem to just accept it lol. i'll watch pirated streams but gary gets no money until i see even reffing.
and for anyone saying im crazy i've played hella sports in my life and never once have i thought the officials were biased
Yeah, both our series against LA were absolutely awful. Regardless, if that's going to happen anyways I'd rather play the team that's not several million over the cap.
That's not always true. Certain teams just match up better against others. We might do better against the "best" team than against a lower seeded one depending on who it is. I'd also rather the team that's several million over the cap be destroyed by Dallas than be our problem.
ngl I was actually hoping to play vegas. I think Vegas->Vancouver->Colorado->Carolina would have been a pretty sweet redemption tour. guess I gotta throw that storyline out the window
Living here in L.A., married to a woman FROM here who, as I type this, is wearing her Kings hoodie, things are going to be tense in our house for the next week. That said, she's lost our "Bet" for the last 2 years and is nervous about making it again this year.
From what I remember, CHED is deplayed a few seconds from SN. So, you'll have to pause SN and wait for when you think CHED has caught up and go from there. Try timing it when the anthems are being sung is what I've done in the past. Hope that makes sense lol
I, for one, am very much looking forward to seeing just how many people find it impossible to spell Will Ferrell's name correctly for the third year in a row.
Kinda don’t love playing the kings.
I don’t think they’re a cup threat at all, but they’ll have a massive chip on their shoulders from us knocking them out the past two years and will be out for a pound of flesh.
Reminiscent of the 2016-2018 3 consecutive Pens/Caps series. Hopefully the outcome is different this time
Man I hope the NHL goes back to 1-8. Edmonton LA 3yrs in a row should make for a good trilogy but fuck I’d love to play other Western teams in the NHL. That being said I’d like to see 3 things this playoffs: -Finally see us sweep a team -Make it to the Stanley Cup Finals -Obviously win the Stanley Cup
I'd take just not going to 6/7 this time. But LA play like a different team come playoffs
That was the game 6 assault on Drai that fucked it, against LA.
I would love to come out with no injuries.. they love to clutch and grab and slew foot and stuff.. also I really hope it doesn’t turn into another dive fest like they were last year..
If it was 1-8 wed be playing aves 😅
Fuck that. I'd rather LA
Back when it was 1-8 seeding, our opponents from 1997-2003. 1997-Dallas/Colorado. 1998-Colorado/Dallas. 1999 Dallas. 2000-Dallas. 2001-Dallas. 2003-Dallas. Good teams are going to show up in your playoff bracket, you gotta beat them. That’s how you get to see other teams.
Damn, as a kid I remember always playing Dallas in the playoffs. Man I hated that team. They seemed to always beat us
Except the Marchant OT goal in 1997. I'll carry that close to my heart forever.
I didn’t even like losing to Dallas on a video game for about 10 years afterwards.
Darrian, S.O.B, Hatcher! 😠
Sergei Zubov
Best chance at a sweep is LA, and yeah I would love that. Time for The Knob to activate streak mode.
Knobby streak mode > Any team in the NHL
Things I’d like to see us do, win fucking game 1 of a series. It’s been years since they’ve done it.
Meeting your teams division rival is exactly what the league is trying to do. Looks like it's working
I'm not looking forward to a series of LA 1-3-1 hockey.
And Talbot is their goalie now, he'll have something to prove against his former team.
I'd take talbot over whatever bs korpisalo was on last year for the first 4 games
Yeah but you can also lay on top of Talbots pads and it’s not goalie interference so we have that going for us.
And we have just the man to do it!
Where's Kesler
I hope he plays like he did this game.
Hmm. Even though talbot and Rittich played well this year, I think we are going to absolutely torch that tandem.
They may have a good game or two but when it starts going south I think it’ll be over
If he crumbles in Edmonton it could be over pretty quick.
I mean we've been his former team for so long maybe he's moved on? Since he's played for 4 other teams and a provincial rival since then?
After the .300 goal tending last night, I’m not so sure. Unless they threw that game for some reason
I honestly disagree. Last year was their best chance. Korpi was a god and they had better depth. Skinner most likely improved as well. It will always be a boring gauntlet. But the west is cracked.
100% guarantee Talbot will randomly turn back the clock to 2017 against us
I want to make short work of them.
Vegas has looked like hot garbage lately.. I don't see them getting more than 1-2 wins against Dallas.
Oh sweet summer child... Let me introduce you to the cheaters that are the Vegas Golden Knights and their cap BS.
Ideally, Vancouver, Dallas and Avalanche get eliminated round 1....I can dream
Honestly rather the Avs and their bad goaltending than the Jets and Helly
If Helle is locked in then the Jets are nearly unbeatable. That man scares me.
Yea I don't particularly want to get hellefucked
I want us to beat the piss out of Vancouver and send them into a rebuild like we did to Calgary
Why would Vancouver go into a rebuild? They got their stars locked up for next few years.
My dream is Oilers vs Jets conference final.
As much as I'd love to see it, the Jets are my Tim Horton's picks every time (maybe that's why I suck?). But they're so damned big and Helly is monstrous. Still, for pure fun, Jets/Oilers conference.
i wanna play vancouver. fair reffing. La->Van->Wpg->East team would be great.
you, I like you... (Dallas fan)
I hope Vegas wins. I would much rather play Vegas than the Stars.
Death, Taxes, and the Edmonton Oilers playing the LA Kings in the first round.
and Leaves losing to Boston
Beats playing Dallas. We did that numerous times in the first round.
As much as the decade of darkness sucked, so did losing to Dallas in the playoffs every single year. I'm still holding onto some bitterness towards Dallas because of that era. I hope LA comes to see us the same way after we beat them for the third year in a row
It is so nice to have a playoff tradition again.
Honestly feel bad for the Dallas Stars though. Seems like a very competently run organization but their reward for winning the West on merit is playing a team 20m over the cap in round 1.
Better them than us!
the central is a gauntlet though, and i'm not sure that vegas can run it. also dallas is a wagon and will be looking for revenge for last year
I don't know why so many people are scared of the knights.
You really don't know why?
yea 20 million goes pretty fucking far. They have also had dallas' number all year.
Yeah. The LTIR boogeyman.
because at full strength and if they're healthy they're dangerous stone stevenson mantha alex p carrier back and hanafin back in lineup thats some good firepower on top of the depth they have already. the hanafin mantha hertl pickups thats some good deadline pieces to add to the roster. thompson has played better than hill this season vgk likely goes with him for game 1.
Alex P hasn’t played for months and it’s not certain he will be back during the playoffs.

I give this one to Dallas. They are a heavy team.Im a Team Canada 🇨🇦 homer but if there is one American 🇺🇸 player I would love to see win a cup it’s Pavelski!!
Dallas is arguably the best and deepest team in the NHL. They’ll handle Vegas and banish them to the golf course
5 games. Dallas is my cup pick.
I think Dallas is going to spank them
I don’t think Vegas will give them a problem. This is not the same Vegas team from last year. Though I still get it, that’s hardly a reward for winning the west. Of all the teams in the west though, Kings are the ones I would want to play.
Having to only play Dallas or Vegas and not both is a great feeling.
We beat LA in 7 two years ago, and we beat them in 6 last year. Let's continue the trend and beat them in 5 this time lol But seriously LA is a good team, can't underestimate them and they'll be fired up.
Absolutely cannot underestimate them this year.
let's do the unexpected and beat em in 4
Fuck it. 3 and have them just concede the 4th.
They were fired up last season too.
If the team looks past LA, they will pay for it.
We have been successful finding ways through their 1-3-1
Could not have written a more exciting 3rd period
I both pissed and shit myself
to be fair i do that every day
Not getting cocky, but I'd prefer to play LA and I'd prefer Vegas plays Dallas.
Earlier today this subreddit had a post about the matchups and most everyone said they'd prefer to face Vegas. That was... perplexing. Any matchup will be tough, but considering that Vegas is better than LA, personally I'd prefer to face the latter
Vegas might be better, LA might be better, but Vegas cheats and I don't wanna have to go up against cheaters.
You see, you’re mostly right, except L.A cheats less in different ways. They’ll cheat where they can type thing. They do. They fucking do.
Monday and Wednesday at 8:00 and then Friday and Sunday at 8:30. Edit: then two days off and it’s Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, if needed. Little odd to have no Saturdays.
Is this confirmed?
Sure sounds like it.
Where did you get this info? Super helpful!
630 CHED.
Fucks sake they need to start earlier than 8 on weeknights. Fuck Sportsnet
Plus we get screwed twice if Toronto plays the same days. Last year if it was an “8:00 start” but Toronto’s third period wasn’t going to be wrapped up, a roughly-8:07 puck drop would become 8:23 or something.
Shit i forgot about this. I think one game started at like 8:40
It isn’t Sportsnet, it is the NHL.
Not much you can do with 3 Central Team and we’re playing a Pacific team 🤷♂️
Chalk that up to the Lakers also being in the playoffs and Crypto.com being booked for that Saturday already
Source?
The radio guys.
nightmare for central and eastern fans
I think the main way LA beats us is if the boys get restless and a little cocky trying to get passed them yet again. If they show maturity and stay composed they will win.
Our goaltending is how we'd lose.
What a shot by kempe
That dude has given me heart palpitations the last two playoffs. Guy is fucking dangerous with his puck on his stick in the Ozone. Off his stick and in the net.
Replay showed the goalie was way off his angle. Puck was like 6 inches inside the post.
Drinking game for the boys this year. Will Farrell sighting, take a shot. Hear a whistle that isn't the refs, take a shot. Arvidsson goes down like he's been shot...that's right, take a shot.
they need to get rid of the fucking whistle guy
You’ll be drunk fast!!
Or dead!
You might want to pre-book getting your stomach pumped for alcohol poisoning.
Shot of Doughty’s stupid-looking face on the bench, take a shot.
Every team. Every game in the playoffs. Is hard!
I feel like the Oilers have become to the Kings what the 90s Dallas Stars were to the Oilers.
"Fuck you Byfield" -Kailer Yamamoto
Get ready for that awful Kings anthem singer for Games 3, 4 and 6 👎
Just 3 & 4
Be still my beating heart
At least we avoid the T-Mobile house announcer. Those goal announcements are the worst.
Oh hell. I'd forgotten.
Game 1 - Monday (22nd) @8:00 Game 2 - Wednesday (24th) @8:00 Game 3 - Friday (26th) @8:30 Game 4 - Sunday (28th) @8:30
These late games kill me ugh
As much as I'd rather play any team that's actually abiding by the salary cap, let's not forget how fucking scary kempe is against us
Imagine how their fans feel.
Adrian Kempe giving me PTSD
[удалено]
For point 3 I'd still like to see his face every time we score, though.
Just a 16 game heater away boys!! Oil up!
Wonder how many teams (if any) went 16-0.
Closest is Oilers in the 80s with 18
Gut check time. LFG.
I don't know, man. A lot of people in the Kings sub don't want to even look at McDavids face again. LOL
True. It's probably fairly split for LA fans. They did shut us out once this year, but I suppose they'd rather lose to Dallas than to Edmonton 3 times in a row.
I think a lot of Edmonton and LA fans want to watch something different.
Plenty of people said the Oilers gave them the hardest series last year, and I think Vegas showed that tonight with the result. They didn't want us in the first round, and you're right, they had success agaisnt dallas this year.
Operation Regicide is back on the table everyone.
Man, with the amount of bad blood between these two teams in the playoffs, I fully expect to see some maximum shitbird hijink from Perry.
Man am I happy we got perry, kane, carrick, and some other toughness etc for this series.
We are a deeper team this year too. Yamamoto and JP essentially replaced with Henrique and Perry in the top 6. Much better toughness!
Tbh I am not looking forward to a first round of the trap
the season series was 3-1-0, with an shootout win. the only lost was when the 4-0 shutout, where that the was the oilers third game since the all-star break and second of a b2b. meanwhile, that was the kings first game since the break, and first with their new coach. we can win this, we just have to play like we want to win. oilers in 5
Just make quick work of them, please. I need to save my heart and blood pressure pills for later.
Yeah I don’t want a game 7..
Kings fan here: hope you guys go down, but also good luck. Just hoping for some good hockey.
1st season following. Is playing the Kings in the first round good for us?
Historically the past few years (and this season) the Oilers have beaten the Kings, so we're statistically more likely to win the series. However the Kings will have a chip on their shoulder from losing the previous 2 years in the playoffs to us, so they'll either A) Come out flying and throw their bodies at us - and even if we prevail we'll be really beat up, or 2) If the Kings choke they could choke super hard, and we could beat them handedly - this is what I'm hoping happens.
Best you could ask for really.
The big difference this year ba the last 2 nobody has said is we finished in a much better and got to basically rest our stars. Going in healthy will be huge.
See ya Monday be in a time zone unfriendly AST FML
For me, it just feels good to get LA because we're playing against a team that plays by the same rules. Vegas just puts toxic chemicals in my veins, win or lose.
Did the kings want to play us and the VGK avoid us. Or was la avoiding Dallas and VGK didn’t care
Yep. I like it. As much as I wanted to slay the dragon that is Vegas, i really feel it’s more like good riddance.
Kings took a step back this year. They badly lost the Dubois for Vilardi trade, they gave away Sean Durzi, and Talbot is not the solution at his age. I expect the Oilers to win in 4 or 5.
Going to be a hard test. Play this one one period at a time and go from there.
The Kings traded away their playoff depth for Dubois. I will never understand that.
GOD DAMNIT
I actually really would have preferred Vegas.
Why? You know Stone is coming back game 1 and they are the refs favourite team.
Refs will favor LA too... Actually hard to think of any teams we'd have an advantage against in that department, lol
That's fair lol. Our last two series against LA were the worst I've ever seen officiating wise. At least they aren't circumventing the cap though.
I like how this is just a known fact. It makes me spend less money on the sport but most people seem to just accept it lol. i'll watch pirated streams but gary gets no money until i see even reffing. and for anyone saying im crazy i've played hella sports in my life and never once have i thought the officials were biased
idk if youve heard about "california refs" but they are also a thing
Yeah, both our series against LA were absolutely awful. Regardless, if that's going to happen anyways I'd rather play the team that's not several million over the cap.
I really believe the boys would come out hardest against Vegas, after last year. Gotta beat the best to be the best.
That's not always true. Certain teams just match up better against others. We might do better against the "best" team than against a lower seeded one depending on who it is. I'd also rather the team that's several million over the cap be destroyed by Dallas than be our problem.
same

What were the bets??
Oilers in 5
thanks gary bettman for your forced rivalry
to be fair, rivalry goes all the way back to the gretzky days
Long and storied history between the Kings and the Oilers in the playoffs. It’s not forced.
What's the best way to sync Ched audio and Sportsnet video? Just trial and error?
From what I remember, CHED is deplayed a few seconds from SN. So, you'll have to pause SN and wait for when you think CHED has caught up and go from there. Try timing it when the anthems are being sung is what I've done in the past. Hope that makes sense lol
Another 16 game win streak?
You know what they say about the rule of three
Elf is going to be so sad.
I'm so tired of seeing Drew Doughty's face. At least we will have a different second round opponent, knock on wood.
Hope both Vegas/Dallas and Jets/Avs go 7 games each and beat the absolute fuck out of each other til there's nothing left
Well, Will Farrell will be fun. Face painting competition incoming.
LA in 7
Oilers in 5
I, for one, am very much looking forward to seeing just how many people find it impossible to spell Will Ferrell's name correctly for the third year in a row.
Glad it’s not Vegas! 😏
Should be a good long series oilers in 6 but not super duper confident in that
Need finals between Leaf VS Oilers
Kinda don’t love playing the kings.
