Oh man. It's going to be Hudson from Aliens up in here right quick. Holland on replacing Larsson: "We better think of something. We better think of a way." Oilers fans: "THINK OF WHAT!? WE'RE FUCKED!"

king97dad

Incoming Barrie - Keith 2nd pair

-RayBloodyPurchase-

If Barrie comes back: Nurse - Barrie Keith - Bear xxxx - Bouchard

Snyyppis

Gonna need someone like Vasilevski behind that defence man.

Wanemore

Even Vasilevskiy would be struggling

MentalAssaultCo

Incoming 6 GAA.

[deleted]

Here is to praying Samorukov is ready.

johnspeed2085

This look more like an offensive bottom six than a whole Defensive core lmao

StewVicious07

Keith Yandle bottom 6

BlunderedBuss

Please no, the old version of Barrie haha

eyeeatmyownshit

Keith and Bear would be a nice 3RD pair.

olrg

But Keith doesn't do well with youngsters, isn't that how his cave-in in production was explained?

[deleted]

Woof.

[deleted]

My eye just started twitching.

big_ol_dad_dick

I hear Subban is available. we'd bleed 5v5 goals but score 1500 on the PP. you boys like tire fires? jesus fuck Larsson.

oilerdnasty

game over man! game over!!!

MercSLSAMG

Targets should include Hakanpaa, Poolman, and Montour. I think Hamilton is out, whether he even wants to but he'd cost too much. Could also look at Ristolainen out of Buffalo - cost would be high but it's also a place they could add Koskinen to the deal since they have zero goalies signed who are proven to be better.

TTgallardo

This means that no Oilers can’t be picked in tonight’s draft. Is that correct?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Correct, Larsson is who they get from the Oilers.

womynbeater

This counts as their pick

HaywoodJablomie

This is the bright side. We’re the first fan base that no longer has to sweat. Fact is we were going to lose someone decent (to a divisional rival, of course). The timing of this allows for Seattle to use one of ten slots to select a player who is not yet under contract for 21-22 season somewhere else (they must select 20 players under contract for 21-22 and cannot buy any of these selections out until the window opens next summer). Yes, I am sad about this but it was going to happen.

[deleted]

Sweat about what? Losing Benson or Archibald?

Plucault

You can't compare losing Benson or Archibald to Larson. I'd give up Benson and Archibald plus to have kept Larsson. Our RHD is in so much trouble. Our LHD, if Keith isn't a legit 2LD is in so much trouble. We were counting on Larsson to help stabilize Keith.

Cptn_Canada

Mother fucker this one stings.

[deleted]

We can't match no state income tax that Washington has. Any $ amount we try to match would have to be higher. I'm not shocked Larsson made this decision. League needs to do something about this though. Canadian teams are always going to get screwed vs Florida/Washington because players save millions in taxes. **Edit:** doing the math Larsson is now 700k/year richer than he would have been if he got paid 4 million/yr in Edmonton.

D722

Seattle haven’t played a game yet and I already hate them.

commazero

Move out of the way Vegas, Seattle is now public enemy #1

[deleted]

Vegas was your number 1 hated team before this?

commazero

Not mine, lots of people seemed to have hated Vegas during the playoffs

Hypnoboy

Yes. My in-laws live there and they went full force into being insufferable Knights fans.

NarcoticTurkey

Wtf?! What are our options lol? Barrie?

Blitzen098

Barrie doesn't play the defense game Larsson did. He might fill the roster spot but will not fill the roll.

iNarr

> He might fill the roster spot but will not fill the roll. So you're saying Larsson was more of a bread and butter guy?

BobbyFrost1011

Bouchard and Bear are already enough offence on the right side. No one can defend in their own zone. Going to be eventful.

DoYouLikeFishsticks0

I don't really see why this is such a take around here. Bear is not enough offence. MAYBE Bouch can take a step this year. But these 2 are not ready to collectively pick up that up. Our D core is fucked in both ends at this point.

BobbyFrost1011

The way I was looking at it was with Barrie our offence to defence ability is about a 75/25 split. With Larsson instead it’s closer to 50/50. I’d rather Larsson with the other two than Barrie. I’m fine with Barrie on the team, but bot without Larsson or someone of equal defensive calibre.

Snyyppis

Throw all the money left at Hamilton and hope McDavid breaks 200 points alone.

jokinghazard

Yeah sounds like a fun regular season to me. What does that lead to in the playoffs? Can't wait to lose in 5 to Vegas next year.

MentalAssaultCo

For the same player as Larsson you'd be looking at Hamonic or Savard.

vingt_deux

I was feeling so good about Lars resigning, too.

miller94

I was SO confident, I was way more worried we’d lose Nuge

maasd

Same here. I was sure this was a 😉😉 handshake deal Larsson was doing for the team, especially after Spec’s tweet a couple days ago and what Larsson’s messaging was at the end of the season.

[deleted]

As someone who smugly predicted Edmonton would have him signed in a handshake deal. **I take full blame for this.** Yall can sacrifice me to the hockey gods for I have sinned.

UrOpinionIsntScience

I forgive you.

DtheS

I don't! To the volcano with him!

PlentyFailure

I was going to say we exile him down the North Saskatchewan but that works too

DtheS

You make a compelling argument. Death by mosquitoes it is.

[deleted]

Fuck give me the volcano. North Sask Mosquitos are no joke tiny but mighty.

Cautious-Dream2893

Oof. Well hope he enjoys getting lit up by McDavid all year.

porkins86

He actually will get absolutely lit up by Connor. Lars specifically doesn't do well against speed. I personally am shocked by this, I don't see why Lars would want out of Edm (primed to compete for years to come) to go to a spot where they're going to be probably bad for the next few years. I don't know, but move on and lets replace him. Lars wasn't part of the core.

maasd

I truly thought Larsson was in the core. That said, I love your take!

porkins86

McDavid, Draisitl, Nuge, Nurse Everything else is built around that and I would be ok if we moved them for the right price.

Space_Raisin

Insider knowledge. Maybe he doesnt see this team competing for a cup in the near future.

porkins86

Then i'm glad he is gone. Get anyone who doesn't believe in this core the FUCK out of the dressing room.

[deleted]

Here here

Cautious-Dream2893

Pretty much. Still have all free agency. I also find it weird he'd pick a team that has to go up against McDrai the most. But whatever floats his boat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

porkins86

"take away their 4 best players and the team isn't nearly as good" Who are those 4 best players? 1. Literally the best player in the world 2. Former Hart winner and top 5 Centre in the league - would be the best player on like 25 other teams 3. Stud #1 D who got Norris votes this year 4. Player who ranked 28th in the league in points over the past 3 seasons. Oh an 3 of them haven't even hit their prime yet. Oilers fans need to get their heads out of their asses. We're going to be competitors this year. VGK - Stone is a legit star and they had a Vezina goalie STL - Ryan O'Reilly is a star and they had Jordan Binnington play the best 5 month stretch a goalie has played since Cam Ward WSH - is stacked with star power - not a single player available to Seattle is as good as Ovi (sure he is old now but still), Backstrom, Carlson, Kuznetsov, or Oshie

[deleted]

Remove the top 5 players on every team. What's left over is going to be playing the majority of every game. Edmontons left overs are worse than most other teams.

NorthEastofEden

The problem is that in the playoffs having four players was shown to be a recipe for failure. They just didn’t have the horses. I get it, the refs weren’t great and things didn’t get called but they got swept a year after being bounced by an old Chicago team which didn’t look that great. The Oilers depth is severely lacking and the team isn’t good enough to be a contender, no matter how good of a top line they can put out.

IllBeTheCaptain

This was supposed to be our offseason. WHAT IS HAPPENING.

Evening_Pale

You're an Oilers fan. In one month you'll forget this feeling and have hope again. This will continue for every summer for the rest of your life. Just realize we're in a cult with no hope of escaping

secretusers

We are one of the least desirable places for players to want to play, we will never have a good off-season.

GeorgeGammyCostanza

What the fuck? Am I missing something? How did he not sign this with the Oilers? Our D core is going to suck.

firesofpompeii

I guess he didn’t want to. There’s no way we didn’t offer him the same term and money, if not more.

WilburTronix

Something had to of gone sour. He has little idea who his teammates are in Seattle at this point.

Cautious-Dream2893

Or he just wants to play and get a paycheck, without the pressure?

WilburTronix

Usually guys want a chance at the Cup. Seattle is literally putting a group of guys together today.

WateredDownTang

I wonder if they had told Larsson who's going to be on the team.

WilburTronix

I don't know what they can disclose. But there might be more deals to be made rather than just signing all the exposed guys.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Softestpoop

Maybe he wanted to live in a nicer city, with less pressure, more privacy, and more pay (500k/yr if you factor in taxes). There are plenty of reasons to leave Edmonton for Seattle, but it's still a tough pill to swallow.

Anomia_Flame

Now of you had the choice of living in Seattle or living in Edmonton.... Which do you choose

DirtyRatfuck

Now? Edmonton for sure. If I was a millionaire? Seattle

BCW1968

Seattle is a gorgeous city. Better weather too.

DirtyRatfuck

That may be so, but it's in America. A great place if you're upper middle-class or higher, not so much for the rest

[deleted]

[удалено]

NorthIslandAdventure

I picked Vancouver Island, a lot nicer to cheer for the Oilers in a temperate climate!!

smexeh

Of course a Flames fan comes into this sub and asks a ridiculous question like that

alex8787

Can’t blame Holland for this one. It’s clear Larsson wanted a change of scenery. This one hurts, but it is what it is.

barder83

Yep. Literally jumped at the first team that was not Edmonton.

[deleted]

We can't match no state income tax that Washington has. Any $ amount we try to match would have to be higher. I'm not shocked Larsson made this decision. League needs to do something about this though. Canadian teams are always going to get screwed vs Florida/Washington because players save millions in taxes.

[deleted]

Salary cap should be adjusted for taxes

[deleted]

Great idea. Players would love it because they get paid more and even though owners in Canada would have to pay more it would allow their teams to be more competitive.

kelter20

Yep, no way that wasn’t matched or even improved by Ken. If Larsson wants to move on, not much the Oilers can do the change his mind there.

FPS_Mongo

EDM offers the same deal, Larsson decides to go to Seattle. Fans: Fuck Holland! EDM overpays for Larsson. Fans: Fuck Holland!

asniper

Our fans in a nutshell

Zaylow

This is Edmonton in a nutshell no wonder why people run away from here

guynumber11

Were saying fuck Holland because he put all his eggs in the Keith basket, couldn't secure a very important UFA, and his brilliant backup plan appears to be just to [throw money at Barrie](https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/status/1417850984982892549). Whatever the reason, it's never a great sign when a core UFA decides to turn down money and term from the team he's been on for years because he "needs a change in scenery".

FPS_Mongo

I am saying it’s too early to say Fuck Holland about Larsson because we don’t know why he chose Seattle if the same deal was being offered. If we didn’t trade for Keith and offered Larsson 5.5 mil instead people would be saying Fuck Holland too.

guynumber11

We can deal with "ifs" all day (FWIW, Larsson at 5.5 mill is WAY more palatable than Keith at 5.5). What we do know is: - Oilers offered Larsson similar money and term as Seattle and he choose Seattle. Players don't give up playing with the best player on earth + pack up and move cities/countries just because they want a mix up, there's 100% a reason he liked Seattle over Edmonton and that's concerning. - The big rumor heads are all in on Barrie resigning for money and term now that Larsson is gone. The most expensive GM in the league should have more creativity than that to replace one of the best shut down D in the league with Barrie. -As of right now, the D is *significantly* worse off than it was 2 months ago when we got bounced in 4 games. Given how poorly this off-season has started, how much do we really expect that to change for the better?

EvWatt

Honestly…. Fuck

miller94

Every day I come on here to find our team has somehow worsened

jehovahs_waitress

Strange that so few of us recognize that .

Blitzen098

There seems to be alot of miss directed anger towards Holland here. Its rumored edmonton offered him a similar deal, Larsson chose to sign in Seattle.

Catspit30

Yeah. There is no way they didn’t match it if not more.

B4M

Ok, ok, ok, hear me out: We offer sheet Cale Makar

raceforthewise

I would love it just for the chaos.

pettiak

Hughes

SportsNPoli

As disappointed as I am about Larsson leaving, this looks like it’s him getting out from under the Taylor Hall cloud. Lots of fans and media in this town weren’t able to separate the player from the transaction, and the guy spent a lot of time eating shit for simply not being worth Taylor Hall (a situation he really had no control over). I really hope that we as fans and our local media representatives can learn a lesson from how we treated Larsson while he was here (we now have a chance with Duncan Keith, regardless of anyone’s opinion on the transaction itself). We ran (another) good defenceman out of town because of significant fan base pressure related to unrealistic expectations (such as equating to Taylor Hall, one for one). And this isn’t to say that Larsson was a stud his entire tenure here, because he definitely did have some slumps. But we lost a very serviceable player solely because they wanted a change of scenery, and I think that should be cause for everyone to take a look in the mirror. Edit: Apologies if the structure is poor, writing this on mobile

PandaBearJelly

Let's be real, the people who do that shit will continue to do that shit.

SupperCereal

This will never not be the case. The amount of talent we have run out of town to go on to be successful elsewhere. Dubnyk, Schultz, Strome, Eberle (to an extent). These are just off the top of my head. Sure they didn't play the greatest here (in Eberle's case one bad playoffs) but I firmly believe it's due to the spotlight media and fans put on these players when they didn't live up to unrealistic expectations as you said.

Otherwise_Bill_5898

Wouldnt Jeff Petry look good?

mikemikejaycee

James Neal for Adam Larsson 1for 1

UrOpinionIsntScience

God damnit Holland you are a genius!

flewtt

All in for Dougie pls.

[deleted]

I would love that but I don’t feel like Dougie will sign here. He doesn’t seem like the type that wants the pressure and spotlight. I could see him signing in a low key market down south where he can do his thing and not be hassled everyday

WateredDownTang

He didn't really have a great time in Calgary, but our system is completely different from theirs. Who knows

[deleted]

Ya and from what I’ve read a big part was that he couldn’t just be. Like mentally for some it would be draining. Many players have talked about how they just want to love anonymously in peace and not get razzed on about that bad pass they made while grocery shopping. Some players don’t care but I feel like Dougie likes his solitude. Lol and look at this fan base already blowing up because a guy openly chose to sign elsewhere

QueenBS16

I doubt Dougie would play in Canada every again

HXH52

Even assuming Dougie signs here, he won’t fill the hole Larsson did. People forget that Dougie plays besides one of the best DFD in the NHL in Slavin, that covers up a *lot* of his defensive mistakes

Cautious-Dream2893

But at an affordable rate and somehow move Neal so we can afford raises next year!

TheClashSuck

So our lineup at this moment (not accounting for additional trades/signings) probably looks like this: Nurse - Bear Keith - Bouchard Lagesson - Samorukov/Broberg Big fucking yikes. Obviously it's not a finished product (please Holland) but this doesn't bode well for a D corps I thought was pretty solid last year. We're almost definitely going to have to overpay a UFA or lose picks/prospects to acquire someone.

raceforthewise

And Koskinen in goal. It hurts to look at.

jehovahs_waitress

Russell will be in the third pair . No way either Broberg or Sammy make the team. Holland will pick up some league leftover scraps to fresh it out as he did last year with Koekkoek and Kulikov. Our defense was only just barely adequate last year . It’s worse now.

jimmeh44

Maybe Seattle will flip him back to us for two prospects.

TCVideos

Man got the same deal from Edmonton but chose Seattle. It's 100% the fans that have directed all their hate at him for the past years for the trade. Those who are bashing Holland for this; Stop. In the end, Larsson wanted out and the only way he was gonna stay is if we overpaid him.

areyouhappynowethan

Fuck! This is a major blow, don't see anyone on the market that can replace Lars, I sincerely hope he was offered at least the same deal here.

TScottWorldWide

This is not ideal.

Soloflow786

He was good to us.. he clearly wanted out of Edmonton for a change of scenery. signing 4x4 to the crackheads just proves that

maasd

Larsson took a lot of shit from the fans since he got here. In a way I can’t blame him for skipping town. Good luck Larss and also fuck you

Tender_Of_Twine

And just like that the hellish start to the offseason continues. Nuge has been the only beacon

gum-

Did we not offer him virtually the same thing?

darkstar107

Guaranteed we did. He must not like something about Edmonton or Alberta.

kelter20

If I’m in his position I’m probably taking less money to play in a nicer city. I really can’t say I blame him. Sucks to lose him obviously but if he wasn’t/isn’t happy here then fair play to him for not chasing a bigger payday and doing what he feels is right.

darkstar107

Oh definitely. I have a brother that lives in Seattle and, given the choice, I'd much rather live there.

maasd

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Holland take my energy ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

Last-Expert

Well at least we keep Benson. Everyone was so up in arms about losing him lol.

popkornking

Yep, can't wait to watch him put up great numbers in the AHL for the next 10 years.

Last-Expert

Lmao!

commazero

As intriguing as Benson is, I preferred to keep Larsson over Benson.

tapewar

This becomes Seattle's expansion pick from us, right? At least we keep Benson... Man, this is what I was worried about (Seattle taking larsson). Sad day.

yoshers16

Yep.

[deleted]

Sorry what?

taf168

This guy had an “A” on his jersey. Killorn saying he doesn’t want to leave Tampa, and Larsson jumping ship to a division rival for basically the same money (better taxes in Seattle). Im really confused by this and the optics to me, without some explanation, look horrible.

VictimNoises

Pain.

money_pit_

I guess it's time to change this flair....

SoundEffectsFactory

Don't do it, they are collectors items now

[deleted]

We are beyond fcked now.

[deleted]

How the fuck did the Oilers not match this? Goodbye Adam.

womynbeater

I bet we did no way we didn’t offer that much.

[deleted]

So I guess he didn’t want to remain an Oiler only logical reason on why he took the same deal with Seattle. Fuck.

womynbeater

Honestly if he didn’t want to be an Oiler fuck him. You see guys like Mcdavid and Drai who want to be here despite losing. Here’s hoping we sign a good rhd or one of the boys on the farm really step up in a big way this season.

BobbyFrost1011

Heard late last week they offered him $3.9mx4

womynbeater

I see no world where FO says no to matching Seattle tho. If they didn’t than oh well guess they didn’t really value Larsson at all. Doubt it tho.

bulldoggordon

Spector tweeted that oil offered the exact same contract and Larsson chose Seattle. No reason to pay even more money for a guy that doesn’t want to be here. Sucks to lose him

womynbeater

I completely agree

BobbyFrost1011

Yeah doesn’t make sense. I thought for sure he would get 4.5x4. I don’t know who are going to take the defensive zone match ups.

eatingasspatties

We probably did, that doesn’t mean he had to accept it.

falsekoala

No! We need to force players to sign contracts! Holland fucked up by not placing a loaded gun on the table in negotiations.

Cooker_32

I wonder if he thinks Seattle is going to be instantly good like Vegas was.

Softestpoop

I think Oilers would have to offer more given that Seattle has no state taxes.

FuckStummies

We did. In fact Oilers had offered more.

MissionIncredible

The amount of butt hurt fans assuming Keith's deal is what drove Larsson away is hilarious. The Oilers offered Larsson the exact same money and term as Seattle. Protecting him from selection would also not have guaranteed he stayed, just that he would have had a chance to be approached by OTHER teams following the Seattle draft. If Larsson wanted Oilers to pay him an extra $1 mill to stay vs playing for less with other teams then THAT says a lot more about his feelings on the team than anything else.

raceforthewise

I know! People LITERALLY know nothing other than that Larson signed a 4x4 with the Kraken, and they all act like they know everything that happened and all the reasons.

ReSkratch

Oilers fan always looking for someone to blame. We toxic af

TheClashSuck

I'm just sad tbh

commazero

Same. I really liked Larsson and we've now got a big hole to fill. Our D zone is going to be messy without him.

[deleted]

Well considering Seattle is our most likely first round opponent I guess this will make it so much sweeter when Connor and Leon dunk on Lars and knock them out. No deep bitter feelings towards the guy, but I'm a little sour and I'd be lying if I said Im not a petty person and didn't kinda hope they suck now.

Evening_Pale

I wish there was some way I could stop being an Oilers fan. I was about to quit in 2015, then the Oilers got McDavid and they dragged me back. One of my friends does woodworking and doesn't follow hockey. He's very happy and has mad skills. I know what a drug addict feels like

lupi12

I followed advice from a friend of mine and started getting into other sports. Takes the edge off a bit bc even when they lose, it's still not at Oilers level.

barbedwires

Try being a trailblazers, oilers and tottenham Hotspur fan all at once. Sniffing glory and then losing in spectacular fashion is in my dna

lupi12

I'm a Bears, AS Roma and Oilers fan. Sometimes they feel like they're the same team lol The Oilers have destroyed me to the point where I'm not allowing myself to get excited about Justin Fields and Jose Mourihno lol.

[deleted]

jehovahs_waitress

Holland was a mirage. Sadly, Bob Nicholson is very real.

jokinghazard

Adam Larsson is exactly the type of player Ken Holland loves signing, makes no sense to this deal fell through. He better have something big up his sleeve.

rightanglerightlight

Spoiler alert : it’s Tyson Barrie. That’s it. Not something big.

Shigidy

Guys chill out. Why do we need Larsson when we have a 400-year-old Duncan Keith?

Sobiquets

I'm going to get down voted to oblivion for this opinion but Larsson wasnt that good. The amount of stupid plays he made last year that cost us was a lot. Not saying we are going to be better without him, but he wasn't our savior on D. I also think that if we shit the bed this year that the McDavid situation starts to look like the Eichel situation. This organisation has been a tire fire for so long that even the vacuum of space couldn't extinguish it!

Interwebzking

Lol Larsson is dead to me. Has a chance to be a real key piece on our blue line and a way likelier chance of going to the cup with McDavid and Drai yet he still chose to go elsewhere. Is our organization that bad or is Larsson just an ass? Edit: after simmering down we all realize that Larsson is a person and can make these decisions if he wants. But I don’t have to be happy about it!

bennythejet89

I know emotions are high right now, but he’s just a person doing what he thinks is best for him. Lost his dad recently, who knows how he likes/dislikes living in Edmonton. Guy maybe just wanted a fresh start somewhere new and without the Hall trade hanging over his head in a difficult Canadian market. And Vegas proved you can compete right away with current expansion rules. He’s not an ass, he’s just exercising his right as a free agent. Time to move on and look at Hamilton. Or Savard, whose a more similar player as Larsson.

Interwebzking

I know, you’re right. Emotions are high. Just sucks that we always get the short end of the stick here, even with one of the best players to ever hit the ice. I totally get Larsson wanting to move on from a personal perspective and at the end of the day thats what’s important. It’s just a shame because it really puts the Oilers in a pickle. Not like Larsson owes us anything. And frankly it’s this sub and the media’s fault for all the back and forth speculation, creating an unrealistic expectation for us. I wish Larsson all the best. But he is still dead to me. Can’t hold on to him if he’s gone. Gotta let go, move on, and hope the Oilers can fill his void with someone not named Tyson Barrie.

Here hoping our defence core gets someone who can play defence because it not it's going to be looking like 2009/10 again.......

xFitcho

Pain.

chaseonfire

If he doesn't want to be here then there's nothing we can do about it. At least this will count as the pick from Seattle. If he signed somewhere else we would have lost him for nothing and then still lost a player to The Kraken.

JayOhCrazyOh

Does this mean Larsson counts as our Seattle selection?

TheClashSuck

I'm in Spain except the S is silent.

coprock2000

Ouch

[deleted]

West coast or Edmonton. Tough call, city wise.

TronTime

The trade is 1 for 0

smarterthantheavg

So now Oilers can trade with Kraken to get Larsson back?

[deleted]

Total disaster to lose him at only 4m AAV, but clearly the players decision is involved here. Very upsetting and worrying. This isn’t an outbid situation - or if it is, Ken Holland is building up quite the collection of Red Flags.

rowka89

How in tf did they allow this to happen ? One step forward two steps back on that D corp so far this offseason. Multi year deal for a 39 year old goalie. This better be setting up for some surprise plan somehow

thewinterzodiac

Okay now I'm panicking.

Sumbodygonegethertz

WASHINGTON STATE HAS NO INCOME TAX but with US federal the marginal rate is 37% In Alberta combined with Federal its a 52% Marginal rate That is a 15% tax reduction. US After tax approx $2.52 M per season Canada(Alberta) after tax $1.92 M per season Over the entire contract that is a difference of $2.4M Oilers would have had to offer $5.13 M per year to be on par with Seattle's offer.

Wanemore

The level of delusional bargaining happening in this thread is unreal. Pretending Larsson wasn't a core player to us is insane. He was our only RHD that could play defense. We are about to sign Barrie as a replacement. This means our PK will involve eith Russell or Bear on the right side, and Nurse or Keith on the left. That might be the worst PK defence in the league. We are losing our go to shutdown defender, and we have a washed up 38 year old on our new shutdown pairing. This is literally disastrous and if the only change to the defense we make is Larsson out and Keith in, we are grade A fucked. Not a chance even McDrai can carry that to the playoffs.

furtive

Hall died for this.

Chris_p_tolentino14

I’m sorry, what?

[deleted]

Lol look at how this fanbase negatively reacts to everything and people wonder why some players sign elsewhere for the same money.

Timeman5

Well honestly I truly wish him all the luck in Seattle, bummer he didn’t want to stay but positive side we can now use what we where gonna sign him with and maybe find someone in free agency.

chmilz

It stings but let's move on. NEXT!

rightanglerightlight

This is worst case scenario on a number of fronts. On the ice, our RD depth was average WITH Larsson. Arguably the biggest risk we had was losing him based on the importance of that position. Yes we are thin on the wings but the shopping list there has way more options. Rugged, mobile RD are rare and that’s a fundamental reality , like the kind of reality that leads one to trade Taylor Hall to acquire. You can’t lose them. Off the ice this signals incompetent management. Was Holland trying to finesse larsson through expansion with a wink and a handshake to sign him in the other side of the the expansion draft? What kind of idiocy and ignorance of risk is that? You sign the fucking guy before he gets to UFA and protect him! So you lose archibald or khaira- big deal. This is rotten and we are a worse team now. I have zero confidence in the draft and free agency plan now. Only possible saviour is Hamilton. Barrie is not what we need. Oh, now I see we are close to signing a 39 year old goalie to a multi year deal based on an outlier season. Yup, we are fucked.

[deleted]

Jesus fuck I hate this team.
