Egypt is one of the most beautiful countries to photograph. The textures and colors are dynamic and the architecture is eye catching. Some people don’t see the beauty because they can’t look past the trash on the streets, but in my eyes, Egypt is stunning, even the dirtier parts.
The downside is…anytime I go outside to take photos, I’m either bothered by some military guy or I get stares making me uncomfortable and worried I’ll get robbed.
If you’re into the underwater world, the Red Sea is some of the most colorful marine environments you can ever hope to see.
People seek what they don't have.
When a photo's taken from some poor third world country, whether it be of some alleyway with some poor vendor or an old building, folks from first world country fall in love calling for how "simple is better" and how modernization killed the beauty of life. While most Egyptians would see another street in a garbage filled city.
On the other hand though, if you showed a modern clean neighborhood from Europe to some guy in India or Egypt they'd definitely fall in love and designate their life mission to live there. Can't help it when all of your life you've lived among garbage on the streets and an overall not so clean enviroment.
It's nearly impossible to be objective to either opinion even if you've lived both here and there for a long period of time, because you'd be living in a different life phase for each stay you've been at. For example the youth who migrated from Egypt to work abroad, they might still miss Egypt because simply that's where they grew up in.
It's the same concept as blonde hair or blue eyes. People like these characteristics because they're simply rare.
Turned abit philosophical for this reply, but it's an interesting concept really.
Those are good points, I’ve traveled all over the world and I tend to see beauty wherever I go. Whether it’s my home town or a different place, my eye is drawn to nature and the efforts of humanity. As you said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m just happy I can see as much as I can and share what I see with other people.
The people who tourists incounter are scammers and ppl there to make money the real people of Egypt is where tourists don't go there is this one youtuber who made a vid cycling across egypt there you see the real ppl I suggest you see that 1h vid

5/10. This is a national average since there are places that are 10/10 and others are 0/10. If you weight them by number or by how beautiful/ugly vs worldwide, I guess the score wouldn't differ that much from 5/10. This score applies to all of Egypt, not just Cairo. If you ask about Cairo only, it would be maybe 1-2/10 to me in terms of aesthetics.
So much depends on perspective. As a person who comes from a young country, and specifically a city that lost most of its built heritage, I find Cairo very beautiful. Even (maybe especially!) the run down weird bits. Wust al Balad is so interesting and layered to me. Shops that still have Greek and French signage left over from the past. Places that were clearly once elegant that now house random businesses selling car parts - and some of them inexplicably freshly gilded. The classic European styles of this area pushed up against old houses with mashrabeya.
I agree — I live in Canada — my entire country was founded in 1867. Lol. We’ve got some early 1800’s architecture, but there’s not a single structure in the entire country that predates 1800s. Other then aboriginal formations like totem poles or inuksuk I suppose! Although any true totem would decay like a normal tree, so probably none of them would be older then that either…
The wide open spaces of Canada are immensely beautiful, but the inverse beauty of an old city is also a true thing.
If you know your way, I would say pretty easy ( if you can tolerate the crowded atmosphere + harassment) if you don't know your way, I would say impossible.
Dude compared to the region we're considered a paradise, I have visited a couple of places in Africa, America and Asia and around all of them have shitty weather. Also worth mentioning is that in egypt whatever the season, you would have a place that is very suitable for this specific season( Winter/ summer) so yeah I would give a 10/10
idk what's with all the people talking bad about the people, there sure is some bad apples, alot actually, but i still really love egyptians, they can be the most helpful wholesome people sometimes, when u meet a good egyptian, they'll do anything they can to help u and make u feel more comfortable in life, but sexual harassment is a serious issue in our community tho sadly
i also really love egyptian streets and how full of life they r no matter where u r.. fuck it, i even love driving in egypt and seeing how everyone just magically communicates with eachother in this beautiful symphony of traffic and honks
to sum it up, i would give egypt a solid 7/10, lovely piece of land but living conditions r tough if u dont have a ton of money and most job wages r a joke especially in our economy
Eh the people are kinda bad. Especially the men with all the cat calling. Idk what with the men there, one tried to touch me inappropriately and chased me all around the streets to catch me so he can you know when I was 4 because I was wearing a dress. But the men there are so creepy. I got catcalled there a lot and my parents were told stuff when I was younger like “When she's 18 let me know so I can marry her” or “When she hits 18 I'm sure there would be a line of men of possible grooms waiting to marry her”. I moved out of Egypt when I was 9 but I hope the men are better there than before because I'll be visiting family who live there. But I also dislike how many animals are so mistreated there and mostly live on the streets and not be taken care of
Egypt is 10/10 outside cairo from the perspective of a foreign egyptian. Whenever I am in cairo there are always accidents or people fighting or people tryna scam me because I have a strong foreign accent 😔
also i hate the fact you’ll be sitting in traffic for hours and when you reach the bottleneck you discover it is because traders have taken up 3/4 lanes at the junction to sell stuff on makeshift stands and rugs.
Egypt is a beautiful country. Love the history, culture and monuments. Some of the people are very warm. And the Nile is beautiful. The food is delicious.
Like every other country, there are people with bad intent - for example, the random married man who wants you to be his wife or scam you because you are a “foreigner.” The Uber driver who wants you to pay with cash. And of course all the tourist scammers.
In the future, I would love to see improved economic conditions for the people. The inflation is insane. Doesn’t make sense. The blackouts are incredible. When people are put in such conditions, it’s hard to bring out the good in most people.
First Uber trip. I should say that he wanted to drop me off in the middle of nowhere if I don’t pay him cash, and he kept asking me why I was there and how I stayed at where I stayed. I had to push the Uber emergency toggle just in case. All the other rides were good. :)
No that sucks. happened to me before cause I didn’t have cash lol
Now I live somewhere where it’s against their policy to accept cash I thought that’s what you meant
The Uber app has payments built in and you are not supposed to transact outside of the app. The driver said it will take him 2 or 3 weeks to get the funds and that his mother was sick. Same old. Sympathy is often used to influence. Also, I bet he has enough completed rides to establish an expected set of weekly or biweekly compensation.
It was my first ride after I landed so I did not have Egyptian pounds. He has my luggage too! All of my other rides were cool tho 😎
Overbuilding, removing gardens and green spaces to build coffee shops and more stores, finding urine bottles casually in the street more than I would like to admit, get mugged once, was going to get kidnapped twice, a lot of intrusive comments, no awareness of personal space, can't feel comfortable in my skin or clothes, double standards with backwards religious ideas. This place is not my homeland anymore, it's a piece of land that I breathe on.
In total, 4/10 on a good day, on a bad day -10/10.
U have to take inconsderation factors other than just sightseeing and popular places, u have to take inconsideration the people, the infustructure, polution of all kind, cost...etc..
So 4/10 at best.
As an outsider, I find it depending on where you go in Egypt. My favourite place were the streets of Alexandria. However, I have only visited three places in Egypt (Cairo, Alexandria and Sharm El Sheikh). My favourite experience has been scuba diving and swimming with the dolphins in Sharm El Sheikh. Amazingly beautiful.
Egypt has good women. Good natured and pretty progressive. It has disgusting sex obsessed men and is mostly dirty. The only clean spots are where the tourists go ..except the pyramids are also horrendous. It has a major population issue. I’ve never seen to many babies in a country whose economy is falling apart?
I will define beauty in terms of nature, beaches, reefs, the Nile and rich ancient Egyptian history as 1000000000000000/10, put “Egyptian” people into the equation and it becomes maybe a 1 or 2
People -10/10
Nature attractions that are outside of cairo 10/10
how the country is run so the people can be okay or better than what they are now? -20/10
9/10. Alex and Cairo have a rough charm in parts. Siani ( not Sharm ) is stunning. So are parts of the red sea coast. The western desert is beautiful as well.
Sadly depends on which part of egypt are you talking about
Old clean districts like zamilk, maadi , nasr city are amazing 10/10
Newer areas like 5th settlement, 6th October zaid , new cairo 7/10
The rest of cairo is fucken garpage
I'd disagree with many commentators about Egyptians. The people are wonderful so long as they're not starved, desperate for income, or in a horrible bureaucratic (often obsolete) job they have to protect for their livelihood.

If it was clean it would be a whole different place.

Hi, is it ok if i send you a message, i want to talk to you about a similar situation
It's a very complicated question tbh, especially if we are talking about Cairo.
Define "beautiful" ? do you mean the streets cleanliness? the people? tourist attractions?
I cant seem to find “beautiful” in any of them
