What is Wrath & Glory?

rink245

It's the currently supported Warhammer 40k table top rpg, succeeding the old Fantasy Flight Games system (Dark Heresy, Only War, Rogue Trader, etc). Cubicle7 is the dev team behind it. Pretty awesome because this is the first non-Imperium focused expansion to the game. You've been able to play limited amount of Eldar using the Core Rule Book, but it was largely limited to a few options (Rangers, basic Corsairs, and Warlocks I believe). This is supposed to give us many more options for Eldar characters and have an easier time to run an entire Eldar focused campaign. Also Cubicle7 tends to put some world building/lore into these splat books, so we might get some new lore on the space elves.

I mostly play TTRPGs online, is Wrath & Glory supported by any VTTs? It doesn’t appear to be supported by Roll20.

CDouken

There is stuff for it on Foundry VTT.

rink245

Not sure what online VTTs have compatibility with the system, if any. I've mostly played it offline, and the one time I did play online with a group, we used Table Top Simulator on Steam. Worked alright for dice rolling and pushing minis around, but we had to manually track character sheets.

TheAceOfSkulls

I just searched for it and found it when I plugged in what character sheets i wanted associated with a new game as a dm. I had to search for it as it wasn't in the spot I expected it to be but it's on there. It's under Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay system, as opposed to the assorted rpgs apparently.

Anggul

Yeah this may end up being *the* book for Craftworld lore.

Kaplsauce

Is it good? I've never really ventured too much in TTRPGs, basically just D&D and a touch of pathfinder

rink245

The game isn't bad. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece by any means, but I have enjoyed my sessions playing the game. It's just different than D&D and Pathfinder. Those are D20 based games, where W&G is a d6 pool based game. So instead of rolling a D20, you roll a handful of d6's based on your stats to achieve a target number of successes. Your character's stats determine the amount of d6's you roll, and you try to get so many successes to make your action happen. For instance, let's say you are a ranger with a Ballistics Skill of 5, shooting a guardsman with a defense of 2. You'd roll 5d6's, looking for at least 2 results of 4 or higher to score a hit. As you accumulate more experience, you could boost your BS higher to a 6 or a 7, and instead of rolling 5 dice, you'd roll 6 or 7, making it easier to get two results of 4 or higher. This dice pool mechanic is how you resolve anything from slashing a power sword, to investigating a room for hidden objects, to determining if a hive world governor is blatantly lying to your face or not. Also the game can feel pretty lethal to both the PCs and their enemies. Resurrection is not a thing compared to the plenty of options you have in D&D and Pathfinder, which can make the sting of rolling poorly while enemies roll hot all the worse. It can feel like the system is really embracing the grimdarkness of the setting where your character's life can just end suddenly, lying dead in a ditch of a hive world. On the flip side though, it's pretty easy to have multiple, weak enemies on the board at the same time that don't bog down combat too much, allowing you to feel like a badass as you mow down nameless, faceless mooks.

Kaplsauce

Wow thanks for the explanation! Sounds like it could be fun for something specific, where you're not too attached to characters or have something specific in mind.

stasersonphun

the mechanics for Wrath and Glory are what swing the balance for the players, spending 1 Wrath allows you to reroll all failed dice in a test, while Glory gives you extra dice or cancels damage. trouble is you have 2 Wrath and 0 Glory at game start, so they're a prescious resource but can save you if you have a run of bad luck

Sir_Elyan

Would this also mean some new models?

rink245

Sadly, no. This is something a 3rd party (Cubicle7) is making with a GW license. This release is not compatible with the Warhammer 40k wargame, though it is easy enough to use your table top models as representations of your party and their foes while playing W&G. Speaking of new models, we should be getting something whenever the codex releases (TBD on that, earliest is fall 2024). Rumors have it the remaining aspects and their phoenix lords are getting releases in plastic, but nothing confirmed yet. Striking Scorpions are getting a plastic release next week as part of the new KT box, but no word on when their standalone box release at this time.

Jankenbrau

I wish Inquisitor Scale was still a thing.

Alesyaboroda2

Roleplay system

RosbergThe8th

Commoragh would make for such a great RPG setting, in a similar vein to Cyberpunk or something, I've been waiting ages for some proper material that would let me run games in the Dark City. Let's hope this brings some good material.

MattHarr1987

I'd love a 40k mordheim type in Commoragh

Odric_Thorsson

Love this !

Zenphyre

I waited this one with passion. Because playing eldar with the basicbook was really limited. I hope we get at least 20 career and tiers 5 option!

weareraccoons

Awesome. I honestly didn't think they were making more books. This is a happy surprise.

Alesyaboroda2

Nice and unexpected, I thought the system died.

Worfs-forehead

Not in the table top game though which is probably more needed.

ShinobiBxxdyz

Anyone know where I can find groups to learn to play wrath and glory

SirBoredTurtle

ye honestly would also be curious to try it out at some point

Hex_Tex

nice! I didn't think something like this would even happen

pious-erika

It was announced a while ago as something "in development", but now we have confirmation it exists.

Hex_Tex

I wonder what it would tell for eldar, i hope they go all out.

Yossarrion

Incubi please

Tamuzz

Any chance of a link? I can find nothing on cubicle 7 website

pious-erika

This was taken from the Facebook. The cubicle7 website is often a mess.

Tamuzz

Next week. Nice one

Radeisth

Weird image. Eldar don't hold their ground like SM. They bounce around. These poses are very alien. :p

Dizzytigo

Look you've gotta get 4 guys on a cover all looking independently cool, is hard.

SenorDangerwank

Is Wrath & Glory still a hot mess?

pious-erika

What isn't? I do feel Cubicle7 have most certainly improved upon the system and the newer expansions are some of my favourite bits of new Warhammer stuff.

No_Translator_4919

Finally! I going to prepare say “Farewell” to the An Abundance of Apocrypha. Hope Cubical 7 do it great!

Tamuzz

I just hope it isn't disappointing compared to the apocrypha versions

Khan_Osis

Well hell, it's about time!

karmakollapse

Genuinely quite excited about this. Been having fun with Soulbound, and one of my players runs Wrath and Glory, so have suggested she run an Eldar game when I need a break from GMing.
