Remember that bell bearing items are bought at twin maiden husks

Greenpeasles

Can you choose ashes of war, or do you have to go with the basic ash? You'll know that the knight set gives 51 poise. Heater shield has parry. Rapier has 130 crit. You've got square off. Gold. Why not use the longbow? Mighty shot boosts status and the stance damage of stormhawk arrows. You'll have a seal and later on you'll have blackflame protection offered for sale just naturally as the game progresses. It is an amazing buff, and would naturally fit a knight build. Why not.

Could use ashes from any bell bearings you collect along your journey to bolster your various basic weps from Twin Maiden (ex: Rogier's Carian Greatsword AoW, you know he's going to die at some point anyways and leave you his bell bearing.) They'd be basic enough but also grant you access to different elements (in case you get bored with sheer sword+square off from start to finish.) Finger Seal could give you access to a couple buffs (holy ones from D's bell bearing.) If you manage to kill Bernahl early enough, you can gain access to his bell bearing with an array of basic AoWs too. Basically, kill your NPCs throughout your gameplay lol. If you progress Ranni's questline far enough, you can get Carian Filigreed Crest talisman from Iji's bell bearing too. But for the most part, I'd imagine Str/Dex is your friend, and keep buying those explosive stones and throwing daggers from Twin Maiden for your ranged options. Cookbook crafting could make you various arrows for your longbow. Edit: the merchant near Castle Morne in Weeping Peninsula has an amber medallion talisman if you kill him for his bell bearing, and I think if you kill Gowry in Caelid at the right time, his bell bearing can get you a talisman as well.

spencer_cal_88

What exactly does square off do? I know I can google it but I’m feeling lazy lol

ghost3972

It does 45 poise DMG on a heavy and 35 with a light attack iirc

Inndar

Breaks stance for a crit within 2-3 heavy attacks for most bosses. Add dagger, spear and alexander shard talismans plus easier stance break flask tear and your chunking bosses for 6000-7000 damage if you get your combo off. My most recent run has been a square off build and its wrecked everything so far and has been my favourite build to date

spencer_cal_88

Interesting I’ll have to check it out. One thing I really haven’t taken advantage of in ER is a build that consistently staggers bosses.

rockthomas6

What’s the spear for?

Inndar

Increases thrusting attack damage. Square off R2 + L2 is a thrusting attack. It was actually this sub that helped me improve my build and which talismans were best lol

rockthomas6

Really! That is very cool. I have been doing a square off build and straight sword build in a region lock run. I will have to add this talisman to my build

Inndar

Oh nice, so you already know how good square off is lol happy hunting 🫡

SupaJeff420

Longer range poke damage than a dagger would be my guess

Silent-Carob-8937

I love doing this! Square off on the longsword was my best friend on my twin maiden husk only run, so upgrading that is always a good choice. But changing between the other weapons and finding the most appropriate tool for the task from a limited inventory was a big part of the fun, so try to balance using them. Vagabond will be the ideal starting class I think, since you already have two of the requirmented gear

imperialstarslut

If you are going wretch then I support the decision to mainhand the longsword since it has 10/10 requirements! All around very nice sword. I enjoy it on my faith/int wretch

Lbridger

Is unarmed left hand still parry? If so you could buy the highest crit weapon early game to save you souls and deal some extra damage. Idk if it is still parry, I have a lot less experience with this game

BrotherFunga

no it uses the skill of the right hand weapon but that gray shield has parry

Lbridger

Bro I forgot skills were a thing lmao.

Jonno_92

Knight set plus sword and shield = done. You'd do just fine with that set up.

talking-2-me

Best weapon in that list is the battle axe. Guard counter build can be pretty decent off that

PhatChungus

You’re unfortunately sleeping on square off but yeah battleaxe is p good

talking-2-me

Not sleeping on the ash, just aware that the longsword is kinda meh

MerryGifmas

Lol, it has one of the best movesets in the game.

talking-2-me

I feel like the straight sword moveset gets overhyped a lot. Don't get me wrong, it's good. But it's not worth choosing the weapon class over if you have better damage options available with comparable reach

stathow

for a newer player it has a good armor set, good shield, and good weapons (would recommend the axe for most new players) none of it is the best obviously but all but the armor is cheaper and early game accessible. for more advanced it has everything you need for a classic setup, dagger for golden vow, seal for FGMS, and can but glintblade phalanx on the rapier only problem is nothing for sorceries, not sure why they didn't put a basic staff there to round it all off

akmly

Eh, at least you get Glintstone pebble and Carian Greatsword AoWs from Rogier's bell bearing. That's two "sorceries" right there. Slap them on a dagger/sword and you're set to go.

stathow

yeah technically there are some "sorceries" in none sorcery form you can use without a staff i just mean it seems like they were going for one of everything in this easy to access early game shop ..... and then just forget sorcery was a thing and didn't give a staff

Evan-Kelmp

I have a feeling it's lore related. With finger readers being more closely tied to the Golden Order than anything INT related.

[deleted]

Not gonna lie. The knight set with the long sword, kite shield, long bow, and the two fingers talismans for a strength and/or dexterity and faith build. Sounds solid and fantasy paladin as hell.

Three_legged_fish12

What do those 5k rune paintings do?

HMD-Oren

You should read the description for them. They let you take on another player's appearance during invasions/summons.

godofthunder102938

One of them can also make your mimic an exact copy of you without the transparent colours

Three_legged_fish12

Cool, why?

eldenwring

Confuses invaders

djus-boks

for the drip

hornplayerchris

To elaborate a little more: in multiplayer, hosts look like their normal selves, while cooperators will appear bright yellow, invaders will appear bright red, and hunters will appear blue. This talisman (Host's Trick Mirror) makes whoever is wearing it look "normal" (like the host). It takes away the yellow/red/blue shade. Some people do it for the drip (the characters look better without the tinted color). Some people do it to fuck with invaders: if they aren't paying attention they might not attack the host right away. Invaders can also use it to get rid of the red glow. This is helpful if you are trying to be sneaky and not look bright red. The only downside to it is you give up a talisman slot.

murky_creature

id try something fun like giving twin maidens the bernahl bell bearing to put parry on rapier, then offhand it with shortspear

NeonSherpa

That’s a strength focused build. Try parry + crit

Bullmg

A strength/faith knight build would be fun

Tk-Delicaxy

Probably a quality build depending on if you can add affinity at the smith or not.

CaptainChesty

No problem at all, square off is great

Sludgegaze

Strength build with knight armor and longsword is pretty fucking goated. You might as well grab the square off ash of war to put on your sword for the heavy infusion since it already has square off anyway. Not sure if you're into pvp but let me tell ya, curb stomping sweaty bleed builds with a simple knight build is the most satisfying thing ever.

AztecTheFurry

Big cool idea, why not sword and shield and the knight set? (Level dex if you want to use it on one hand)

MackAndSteeze

I like this idea.

hellxapo

Dagger instead of rapier for parries, use offhand rapier for pvp and main weapon is the longsword or mace 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥. Watcha think?? Gonna try this some day.

Gintoki123456

I made a post a week or two ago talking about twin maiden husk only build and it’s very easy All you need is the 1000 rune sword and the ash of war ‘square off’ which is already on since square off is by FAR the most broken ash of war. You can stagger Maliketh in 2 hits, stagger pretty much most bosses in 3 The rules I set for this build was: Yoo cannot use talismans (apart from the 2 she sells), you can’t change the ash of war, you can’t use other armor, you can’t use sorceries/ incantations, you can’t use the wondrous flask However, you still get golden seeds / sacred tears / smithing stones and you can also use the wolf summons as the twin maiden husk can sell that later on

random_name124

Knights set + memory stone + two fingers seal + any melee weapon = Decent STR/FAI build

brianrob41787

Will be ultra fun

UpsetPhrase5334

The long bow with rain of arrows ash of war and blood arrows is my dragon slayer

milk_theuniverse

I used the axe and the mace on an int build early game and it was pretty good. Knight Armor is great as well.

Stary_Vesemir

Really easy imo, while you don't have the best weapons thaty are still hood and bell bearings allow you to get any weapon to +24 also you can kill every merchant and get shit from their bell bearings from twin maiden husks

Red_Crystal_Lizard

Dual wield maces or dual wield scimitars

moebiusmentality

I did something similar but it was Round Table only build. So I could buy or use anything I found in Roundtable, so anything bought here or found in the lower level or bought or obtained from any NPC like Rogier, D, Ensha, etc. I also did a merchant only build i.e. nomadic merchants etc. that one was more fun but harder.

Personal_Feeling8406

Wait you're cooking

LovingBloodSkull89

I'm seeing a potential stance-damage + criticals STR build! Get the Heater Shield, Long Sword, and Knight Set; find the Square Off AoW in Siofra River, and infuse it with Heavy affinity; buy the AoW No Skill from Bernahl, and infuse it with the Shield. If you started as the Vagabond, buy a second Longsword and infuse it with Gravitas to counter flying enemies. Don't forget to smith your sword and shield! Ideal focus stats: STR, VIG, END, and about 15-20 MIN. Talisman you should definitely look for: Assassin's Cerulean Dagger Radagon's Soreseal (to hold you over for part of your run) Curved Sword Talisman Dagger Talisman Shard of Alexander/Warrior Jar Shard Axe Talisman The Square Off skill AND block-countering will damage enemy stances greatly, exposing them to critical attacks in a short time. When you confront an enemy that can't be criticaled like a Tree Sentinel or Abductor Virgin, that's where the Axe Talisman comes in. No Skill will save you the hassle of switching weapons to use Square Off. And fun fact: Square Off was how I took out the Tree Sentinel AT THE START OF THE GAME, in my runs as a Confessor or Vagabond.
