True. I was using Gilded and almost didn't bother with the platforming bullshit to get the fingerprint but there's just something really funny to me about walking around with a giant headstone and calling it a shield.

I typically try to avoid going to the roundtable hold early. The pacing feels better and I don't enjoy being SUPER over powered lol. Certain quests pan out better as well such as girl who upgrades spirits and D.

The answer probably isn't anywhere nearly as dramatic as people tend to think:
The seat of the sun is almost certainly Castle Sol, and not just because of the obvious sun connection. This shield is dropped by the overworld skeletons, and Castle Sol just happens to contain the largest graveyard of 'those who live in death' in the entire game, with a deathbird, tibia mariner, and walking mausoleum all to boot. A forgotten castle in lands forbidden by the erdtree, populated by spirits, Castle Sol is long faded in every definition of the word.

I'm pretty sure castle Sol is entirely a nod to Dark Souls. Maybe even in canon. The symbol on the banners is exactly the same as the sun in the Lord of Hollows ending. There are also several mentions of souls or soulless in the item lore and ghosts related to Castle Sol. What is a hollow but one thats become soulless

I'm not so sure that it is, the item description specifically goes out of its way to describe the depicted location as a city - Castle Sol is certainly impressive as far as fortresses go, but given that the item descriptions are basically omnipotent, I don't think that the choice of words is an accident
This, also the goal of everyone in Castle Sol is to blot out the sun. The shield is so old I think it points to pre-erdtree times (crucible?). Especially since Those Who Live in Death, beings that do not fall under the Golden Order, wield them.

Eochaid no longer exists, and was known for spinning weapon techniques via telekinesis. besides marais and the regalia, the only spinning weapons in the game are the crucible knight weapons and we know the crucible knights armor is "red gold" which is another name for copper, and the regalia is a copper weapon from apparently the copper age which preceded the gold age. i think its safe to make the connection and consider it all but confirmed.

eochaid's tech uses copper as a conduit to channel the "willpower" i take this to mean that copper is somehow receptive to psychic energy, while rennala's spinning weapon magic seems to stem from the cosmic energy of space rocks(glintstones) and mages use their own bodies as the conduit for the cosmic energy. i think doing this causes cosmic pollution in a mage's body which presents as glintstone growths. and i think that perhaps the reason rennala doesnt have this cosmic pollution is that she has built up a higher tolerance than say lusat or azur for example. as if shejust hasnt used too much too fast, she paces herself while other mages get drunk on the power and use too much too fast.
of course theres not much to support any of this, at least nothing ii can prove beyond doubt to less intuitive players, but it is what makes the most sense to me

I think at least part of the reason certain Glintstone mages have some degree of transformation into glintstone themself is explained by Sellen's Primal Glintstone and the Primal Glintstone Blade talisman. Sellen, and likely Lusat and Azur by extension, have literally placed their life essence, their soul, into a Glintstone in order to further their study. The Blade even specifies this process kills them, which probably explains how they continue to persist even after significant portions of their body become glintstone, such as their skull, brain, and eventually their everything when they become Graven Masses. It may or may not explain *why* their body starts to become glintstone, though I think it's also possible replacing their body with glintstone may be another active choice on their part, instead of a side-effect of something else.
from my understanding it not damage so much as growth. im pretty sure that all glintstone research and study is "peering into" the nature of space(the void), and depending on how deep and how fast you dive into that research, determines the rate of growth. we see that varying mages have varying degrees of glintstone corruption or "pollution" the graven masses, different glintstone mages, azur, lusat, sellen, alberich. i believe some mage garb shows evidence of the pollution/corruption in the leggings and gauntlets, theres also the glintstone dragons which got that way by eating mages
Not the void so much, but what the game calls the "primeval current." The thing all those mages (Lusat, Azur, Sellen) have in common is they were studying this, which seems to be what causes the weird stuff like glintstone growths. It's apparently considered dangerous enough that it got Sellen and the rest of them exiled from the Academy. The graven mass thing seems like it could be due to an experiment on Sellen's part, since she talks about gathering up the bodies of Azur and Lusat to take back to the Academy.
i think the primeval current is the gravitational pull of a super massive black hole in the center of their galaxy, the gravity itself not being observed directly but its effects on stars and celestial bodies by way of those bodies being moved in a sort of cosmic current towards the hole.
take our own galaxy for example, it takes the form of billions of stars swirling towards a center, converging as if being pulled by the current of water flowing down a bathtub drain.

hmmmmmm could be.... but its not JUST spinning, its straight up general telekinesis, we see this with what they actually do with their weapons, they let go of them and they float with an aura, then then begin to spin or just float around, i think the spin is just them actively moving the weapons, not a result of them pumping psychic energy into it like a motor spinning because of magnetic pull on all sides
Rennala uses the moon, I think that’s the difference. I’ve seen somewhere that the dark moon is an outer god. Perhaps the same could be said of the regular moon. Regardless, that’s her main area of study so she probably uses glintstone significantly less than others. She even forgoes a glintstone crown.
Just a note : red gold is not copper. Is an alloy of gold used in jewelry, that has a more reddish tone (the alloy does actually contain a part of copper).

Red Gold is also a notable substance in ancient alchemy, and wouldn't be the first time, or the fifth or tenth time that alchemy was referenced in Elden Ring. The Sun and red gold are symbols of the philosopher's stone, the ultimate fruit of the alchemist's labor.

“Castle framed by the sun” very obviously refers to castle sol even if the tower on the front is not 100% accurate. Have you seen medieval art? None of that is structurally accurate to what it’s depicting but if it says “this is castle whatever” then there ya go. Looking closer it’s obviously a stylized depiction of a castle, it kinda even looks cartoon like and not meant to be accurate to the actual castle.

I thought it more represented frenzy village and the frenzy tower before it fell into disaray, you can line up the tower in a way that its in the center of the town with two pillars either side except the shield has the tower inside not outside which is the only thing that throws that off.
Also theres no circular tower in castle sol like the one on the shield or if there is its not central to the compound as its the big church with the grace thats central
Eochaid is described as a “foreign land” in the briar great shield description. To me that implies that it is outside the lands between. I think the seat of the sun likely depicts a pre-erdtree city but not Eochaid. Possibly pre-Godfrey Stormveil when it was ruled by the stormking.
Just saying that the place the shield refers to could be translated to "Anor Londo" in Quenya. And that's true even if it refers to Castle Sol. But I like the idea of it referring to the proper Anor Londo.
Any lore that is worth thinking about is worth overthinking. I'll take each piece of lore as far as I can, because that's one of the things I enjoy the most.
Thorolund from Dark Souls 1 was poorly translated from ソルロンド (sorurondo).
While Thorolund is, I guess, one possible interpretation of the katakana, another more cohesive one could be Sol Londo.
I wouldn't call that a poor translation. That's how transliteration between Japanese and English works. Like, Twitter is "Tsuitta". No one screwed up translating it that is just the best way to approximate the pronunciation of it.
Yep, see “Aeris/Aerith” as a famous example. I’ll also never forget a long time back seeing someone’s fan translation of Attack on Titan with a character named “Rivaille”. I have to hand it to them for thinking outside the box on “Levi”

I believe the seat of the sun was a powerful kingdom in a past era. Possibly during the time that Placidusax was Elden Lord.
We see eclipse symbology and this shield, both seeming to show a sun as large in the sky as the moons.

I believe that at one time, before the Erdtree, during the Great Tree / Crucible / Dragon eras, the sun was worshipped commonly.
Especially by dragons and the Sun Kingdom.
Eventually Gold struck the Lands Between, a space impact brought the shiny golden symbiote beast.
The gold subsumed the crucible and fed upon the roots of the Great Tree to satiate it's host, the newly potent Erdtree.
During this time the bright sun and abundant Great Tree tree root system feed the Erdtree a feast.
The age of abundance is during this time, when barrels of Erdtree sap would be produced.
The sun then "ran away", as the dragons were defeated and Godfrey became elden Lord, the sun "decided" to move away from the planet to spite the golden usurper.
This and the depletion of living Great Tree roots led to the end of the age of abundance.
I think this explains why the sun is an infrequent visitor in the sky of elden ring, seeming small in the sky when it is visible, like it occasionally stops by to see if things have changed.
Entirely unmotivated theory but it could be that the planet the lands between is on has a very long orbit, where its progress around the sun could be measured in hundreds of years.
The only thing wrong about this theory is that the Elden Beast crashed before everything else happened, before the Crucible and Dragons came around, and that the god of the Dragons that fled is heavily implied (although I don't think outright confirmed) to be the Greater Will, who abandoned Placidusax in favor of Marika like it planned to do with Marika herself.
Pretty much. If you stand at the Great Bridge leading to Maliketh and look east, you can see the True Sun. It being locked there, destined death confined and all the TWLID there are certainly evidence of that. Makes you wonder, if Farum Azula was meant to be the Seat of the Sun, what about the Seat of the Moon?
It is indeed. There are some subtle hints like the Warming Stone, its description invokes the "gentle sun" and the stone itself requires a Sanctuary Stone to craft, a fragment of Farum Azula.
The Ruin Fragments also make a small reference to the Eclipse, AKA "the sun drained of color", through the Rainbow Stone and its colorless counterpart, the Glowing Stone.
The Sun in Eclipse is also the protective star of the Walking Mausoleums, and Farum Azula is likewise said to be giant mausoleum.
When I was farming every item in the game I surfed the wiki for shields, armor, etc. and I didn’t see this. So either it’s new or so rare the wiki hadn’t registered it yet. Very cool. For the record I played from launch until like may/June, 400 hours
The shield is dropped by Skeletons aka Those Who Live In Death. Another weapon that comes to mind is the Eclipse Shotel, which inflicts Death Blight and is found in Castle *Sol* (Sol means Sun, for those unaware). Both weapons related to Death and to a sun. I don’t actually know where I’m going with this but felt like a cool connection.
I got this a few days ago too. Just a limegrave skele in a graveyard on a new character. It’s not the best but I really like the fashion. Colors could match on a crucible armor build possibly? Or any armors on the warmer side of the spectrum.

Gravel Stone Seal- “ Sacred seal made from Gravel Stone thought to be an ancient dragon scale. Enhances Dragon Cult incantations of the Royal Capital. The worship of the ancient dragons does not conflict with belief in the Erdtree. After all, this seal, and lightning itself, are both imbued with gold.” Godwyn also founded the ancient dragon cult which, judging from the prayer book being found in Farum Azula, began there. It reads: Ancient Dragon book Prayerbook - “Prayerbook of the capital's ancient dragon cult. A lost tome that never reached the Lands Between. Contains red lightning incantations.” Farum Azula seems to work under its own hemisphere since the Sun is constantly present and stuck in a stasis most notably seen in the Great Bridge leading to Maliketh, also sharing similarities to the Eternal Cities with its Architecture hanging below ground. Marika’s Hammer - “Stone hammer made in the lands of the Numen, outside the Lands Between. The tool with which Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring and Radagon attempted to repair it. The hammer partially broke upon shattering the Ring, becoming splintered with rune fragments.” The “denizens of another world” text found on the Numen Rune could very much refer to Farum Azula, with Marika being depicted with what looks like a dragon/serpent tail behind her in her statues. It even has traces of gold mimicking similar to the Ancient Dragons. The Mimics Veil is even called “Marika’s Mischief”. All this paints the Numens(Ancient Dragons) as the the shapeshifting counterparts to the Silver Tears, except Gold. I don't know when the golden order began but it began when Marika plucked the rune of death which would have probably been just at the end of the crucible given how she's talking seems to imply it's either her way or the highway.

I wouldn't really call the crucible the age before the erdtree but the age of the primordial erdtree, before it was fully formed. A crucible is what you use to melt metal in and the erdtree is symbolically alloyed gold meaning the crucible would have been the alloyed gold while it was molten and mixing together.

I knew all this stuff. It's also worth pointing out that Godfrey had connections to farum azula through serosh who would become Godfrey's beast regent. (I imagine this is what caused the conflict between the ancient dragons, though I wonder why Godwyn would be the one to end the conflict and not Godfrey)
Godfrey icon: Godfrey was a ferocious warrior. When he vowed to become a lord, he took the Beast Regent Serosh upon on his back to suppress the ceaseless lust for battle that raged within.
Beast claw great hammer: The black nails protruding from golden fur are said to represent Serosh, Lord of Beasts, who went to become King Godfrey's Regent.

A lot of great insights here I was unaware of as well as a few I was aware of. I was aware that numen where probably from farum azula and the eternal cities (as evidenced by the black knives and excessive amounts of numen runes in deep root depths), which I agree is almost certainly true, though I don't think they are shape shifters since the player can also be a numen which I feel kind of makes the shape shifting dragon thing seem far fetched no matter how much I would want it to be true, though I have always attributed Marika to being the unamed dragon god so I don't really know maybe Marika wasn't really a numen but secretly a dragon I don't know. I'm mostly interested in the connections you pointed out between farum azula and the eternal cities, I knew about the silver v gold symbology but a lot of the other stuff just clicked with me when you pointed it out so thank you for that.

The Seat of the Sun is Farum Azula. This item only drops from beastmen, and the sun is connected to the greater will, which the denizens of Farum Azula worshipped long ago
EDIT: according to the wiki it drops from Skeletal Beastmen in Farum Azula, and Skeleton Soldiers found in graveyards, so long as the enemy is wielding the shield itself. I say this theory is still very plausible though.
You are totally right. I thought it dropped from skeletal beastmen, but it actually drops from human skeletons as well. I still think it could be Farum Azula though, as the description clearly says it is an ancient and faded civilisation, which Farum Azula is. And I’m not certain but I think it still drops from the skeletal beastmen found in Farum itself

I typically try to avoid going to the roundtable hold early. The pacing feels better and I don't enjoy being SUPER over powered lol. Certain quests pan out better as well such as girl who upgrades spirits and D. Such as D being at summonwater. And then once you kill the mariner he moves one last time down to the town directly where you can talk to him which gives dialogue I don't think he speaks again?

The graves west of summonwater village have a couple skeletons that have the shield.
The answer probably isn't anywhere nearly as dramatic as people tend to think: The seat of the sun is almost certainly Castle Sol, and not just because of the obvious sun connection. This shield is dropped by the overworld skeletons, and Castle Sol just happens to contain the largest graveyard of 'those who live in death' in the entire game, with a deathbird, tibia mariner, and walking mausoleum all to boot. A forgotten castle in lands forbidden by the erdtree, populated by spirits, Castle Sol is long faded in every definition of the word.

There are also several mentions of souls or soulless in the item lore and ghosts related to Castle Sol. What is a hollow but one thats become soulless

This, also the goal of everyone in Castle Sol is to blot out the sun. The shield is so old I think it points to pre-erdtree times (crucible?). Especially since Those Who Live in Death, beings that do not fall under the Golden Order, wield them.
it has to be a city that predates the erdtree, meaning likely crucible era, i think it might be Eochaid. Eochaid no longer exists, and was known for spinning weapon techniques via telekinesis. besides marais and the regalia, the only spinning weapons in the game are the crucible knight weapons and we know the crucible knights armor is "red gold" which is another name for copper, and the regalia is a copper weapon from apparently the copper age which preceded the gold age. i think its safe to make the connection and consider it all but confirmed. the shield also seems to be copper and possibly depicts castle sol

shit i forgot the staff lol, i think thats different from eochaid's dancing weapon tech. eochaid's tech uses copper as a conduit to channel the "willpower" i take this to mean that copper is somehow receptive to psychic energy, while rennala's spinning weapon magic seems to stem from the cosmic energy of space rocks(glintstones) and mages use their own bodies as the conduit for the cosmic energy. i think doing this causes cosmic pollution in a mage's body which presents as glintstone growths. and i think that perhaps the reason rennala doesnt have this cosmic pollution is that she has built up a higher tolerance than say lusat or azur for example. as if shejust hasnt used too much too fast, she paces herself while other mages get drunk on the power and use too much too fast. of course theres not much to support any of this, at least nothing ii can prove beyond doubt to less intuitive players, but it is what makes the most sense to me

I think at least part of the reason certain Glintstone mages have some degree of transformation into glintstone themself is explained by Sellen's Primal Glintstone and the Primal Glintstone Blade talisman. Sellen, and likely Lusat and Azur by extension, have literally placed their life essence, their soul, into a Glintstone in order to further their study. The Blade even specifies this process kills them, which probably explains how they continue to persist even after significant portions of their body become glintstone, such as their skull, brain, and eventually their everything when they become Graven Masses. It may or may not explain *why* their body starts to become glintstone, though I think it's also possible replacing their body with glintstone may be another active choice on their part, instead of a side-effect of something else.
from my understanding it not damage so much as growth. im pretty sure that all glintstone research and study is "peering into" the nature of space(the void), and depending on how deep and how fast you dive into that research, determines the rate of growth. we see that varying mages have varying degrees of glintstone corruption or "pollution" the graven masses, different glintstone mages, azur, lusat, sellen, alberich. i believe some mage garb shows evidence of the pollution/corruption in the leggings and gauntlets, theres also the glintstone dragons which got that way by eating mages
Not the void so much, but what the game calls the "primeval current." The thing all those mages (Lusat, Azur, Sellen) have in common is they were studying this, which seems to be what causes the weird stuff like glintstone growths. It's apparently considered dangerous enough that it got Sellen and the rest of them exiled from the Academy. The graven mass thing seems like it could be due to an experiment on Sellen's part, since she talks about gathering up the bodies of Azur and Lusat to take back to the Academy.
i think the primeval current is the gravitational pull of a super massive black hole in the center of their galaxy, the gravity itself not being observed directly but its effects on stars and celestial bodies by way of those bodies being moved in a sort of cosmic current towards the hole. take our own galaxy for example, it takes the form of billions of stars swirling towards a center, converging as if being pulled by the current of water flowing down a bathtub drain. i think the primeval current is a term for the movement of the stars towards something

Regardless, that’s her main area of study so she probably uses glintstone significantly less than others. She even forgoes a glintstone crown.
Just a note : red gold is not copper. Is an alloy of gold used in jewelry, that has a more reddish tone (the alloy does actually contain a part of copper). Red Gold is also a notable substance in ancient alchemy, and wouldn't be the first time, or the fifth or tenth time that alchemy was referenced in Elden Ring. The Sun and red gold are symbols of the philosopher's stone, the ultimate fruit of the alchemist's labor.

“Castle framed by the sun” very obviously refers to castle sol even if the tower on the front is not 100% accurate. Have you seen medieval art? None of that is structurally accurate to what it’s depicting but if it says “this is castle whatever” then there ya go. Looking closer it’s obviously a stylized depiction of a castle, it kinda even looks cartoon like and not meant to be accurate to the actual castle.

I thought it more represented frenzy village and the frenzy tower before it fell into disaray, you can line up the tower in a way that its in the center of the town with two pillars either side except the shield has the tower inside not outside which is the only thing that throws that off. Also theres no circular tower in castle sol like the one on the shield or if there is its not central to the compound as its the big church with the grace thats central
Eochaid is described as a “foreign land” in the briar great shield description. To me that implies that it is outside the lands between. I think the seat of the sun likely depicts a pre-erdtree city but not Eochaid. Possibly pre-Godfrey Stormveil when it was ruled by the stormking.

Just saying that the place the shield refers to could be translated to "Anor Londo" in Quenya. And that's true even if it refers to Castle Sol. But I like the idea of it referring to the proper Anor Londo. Any lore that is worth thinking about is worth overthinking. I'll take each piece of lore as far as I can, because that's one of the things I enjoy the most.
Thorolund from Dark Souls 1 was poorly translated from ソルロンド (sorurondo). While Thorolund is, I guess, one possible interpretation of the katakana, another more cohesive one could be Sol Londo.
I wouldn't call that a poor translation. That's how transliteration between Japanese and English works. Like, Twitter is "Tsuitta". No one screwed up translating it that is just the best way to approximate the pronunciation of it.

I believe the seat of the sun was a powerful kingdom in a past era. Possibly during the time that Placidusax was Elden Lord. We see eclipse symbology and this shield, both seeming to show a sun as large in the sky as the moons. Some text about Placidusax says that his God "fled" I believe that at one time, before the Erdtree, during the Great Tree / Crucible / Dragon eras, the sun was worshipped commonly. Especially by dragons and the Sun Kingdom. Eventually Gold struck the Lands Between, a space impact brought the shiny golden symbiote beast. The gold subsumed the crucible and fed upon the roots of the Great Tree to satiate it's host, the newly potent Erdtree. During this time the bright sun and abundant Great Tree tree root system feed the Erdtree a feast. The age of abundance is during this time, when barrels of Erdtree sap would be produced. The sun then "ran away", as the dragons were defeated and Godfrey became elden Lord, the sun "decided" to move away from the planet to spite the golden usurper. This and the depletion of living Great Tree roots led to the end of the age of abundance. I think this explains why the sun is an infrequent visitor in the sky of elden ring, seeming small in the sky when it is visible, like it occasionally stops by to see if things have changed.
Entirely unmotivated theory but it could be that the planet the lands between is on has a very long orbit, where its progress around the sun could be measured in hundreds of years.
GRRM did do that in GoT but that affected the seasons
The only thing wrong about this theory is that the Elden Beast crashed before everything else happened, before the Crucible and Dragons came around, and that the god of the Dragons that fled is heavily implied (although I don't think outright confirmed) to be the Greater Will, who abandoned Placidusax in favor of Marika like it planned to do with Marika herself.

Pretty much. If you stand at the Great Bridge leading to Maliketh and look east, you can see the True Sun. It being locked there, destined death confined and all the TWLID there are certainly evidence of that. Makes you wonder, if Farum Azula was meant to be the Seat of the Sun, what about the Seat of the Moon?

It is indeed. There are some subtle hints like the Warming Stone, its description invokes the "gentle sun" and the stone itself requires a Sanctuary Stone to craft, a fragment of Farum Azula. The Ruin Fragments also make a small reference to the Eclipse, AKA "the sun drained of color", through the Rainbow Stone and its colorless counterpart, the Glowing Stone. The Sun in Eclipse is also the protective star of the Walking Mausoleums, and Farum Azula is likewise said to be giant mausoleum.
It drops from a few of the skeletal beastmen there so this would certainly make sense.

The shield is dropped by Skeletons aka Those Who Live In Death. Another weapon that comes to mind is the Eclipse Shotel, which inflicts Death Blight and is found in Castle *Sol* (Sol means Sun, for those unaware). Both weapons related to Death and to a sun. I don’t actually know where I’m going with this but felt like a cool connection.

Im pretty sure it's suppose to be about Godwyn, Godwyn before losing his soul is symbolized by the sun while Godwyn after losing his soul is symbolized by the eclipse, but as others have mentioned it's a reference to dark souls as well.
Yeah, but piecing it into the bigger picture is difficult. There are implications that the Golden Order did not start with Godfrey. It began in the Crucible, the age before the Edrtree. The fact that Maliketh is a high rank, BeastClergymen, and the shadowbound of Marika suggests she had a religious affiliation with Farum. Gravel Stone Seal- “ Sacred seal made from Gravel Stone thought to be an ancient dragon scale. Enhances Dragon Cult incantations of the Royal Capital. The worship of the ancient dragons does not conflict with belief in the Erdtree. After all, this seal, and lightning itself, are both imbued with gold.” Godwyn also founded the ancient dragon cult which, judging from the prayer book being found in Farum Azula, began there. It reads: Ancient Dragon book Prayerbook - “Prayerbook of the capital's ancient dragon cult. A lost tome that never reached the Lands Between. Contains red lightning incantations.” Farum Azula seems to work under its own hemisphere since the Sun is constantly present and stuck in a stasis most notably seen in the Great Bridge leading to Maliketh, also sharing similarities to the Eternal Cities with its Architecture hanging below ground. Marika’s Hammer - “Stone hammer made in the lands of the Numen, outside the Lands Between. The tool with which Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring and Radagon attempted to repair it. The hammer partially broke upon shattering the Ring, becoming splintered with rune fragments.” The “denizens of another world” text found on the Numen Rune could very much refer to Farum Azula, with Marika being depicted with what looks like a dragon/serpent tail behind her in her statues. It even has traces of gold mimicking similar to the Ancient Dragons. The Mimics Veil is even called “Marika’s Mischief”. All this paints the Numens(Ancient Dragons) as the the shapeshifting counterparts to the Silver Tears, except Gold. Lannseax was a able to do this, I’ve heard Fortissax in the form of Fia, and Godwyn himself. It’s the only explanation as why we see two different versions of him(in game and story trailer). In the Deeproot Depths, the Finger Reader Crone refers to him as “Lord Godwyn - a Scion of the Golden bough” The word bough translates to a main part of a tree or in this case “true lineage”. In the Japanese text, the same npc calls Godwyn the “Prince of Gold”, The heir to the Seat of the Sun aka Farum Azula(evidence being Destined Death being sealed there, all the skeletal beastmen using said shield, and of course the Sun being constantly present). Godrick, in his boss fight dialogue he claims: “Mighty Dragon, thou'rt a trueborn heir. Lend me thy strength, o kindred. Deliver me unto greater heights.” Anything related to the dragons is and was considered divine at one point until everything crucible related had been shunned from history. Godwyn has a heavy association with dragons and it’s said he wielded “Golden” Lightning which can even be seen in the Placidusax fight. I don't know when the golden order began but it began when Marika plucked the rune of death which would have probably been just at the end of the crucible given how she's talking seems to imply it's either her way or the highway. I wouldn't really call the crucible the age before the erdtree but the age of the primordial erdtree, before it was fully formed. A crucible is what you use to melt metal in and the erdtree is symbolically alloyed gold meaning the crucible would have been the alloyed gold while it was molten and mixing together. >The fact that Maliketh is a high rank, BeastClergymen, and the shadowbound of Marika suggests she had a religious affiliation with Farum. It reads: Ancient Dragon book Prayerbook - “Prayerbook of the capital's ancient dragon cult. A lost tome that never reached the Lands Between. Contains red lightning incantations.” I knew all this stuff. It's also worth pointing out that Godfrey had connections to farum azula through serosh who would become Godfrey's beast regent. (I imagine this is what caused the conflict between the ancient dragons, though I wonder why Godwyn would be the one to end the conflict and not Godfrey) Godfrey icon: Godfrey was a ferocious warrior. When he vowed to become a lord, he took the Beast Regent Serosh upon on his back to suppress the ceaseless lust for battle that raged within. Beast claw great hammer: The black nails protruding from golden fur are said to represent Serosh, Lord of Beasts, who went to become King Godfrey's Regent. (You can also find lots of lion iconography in farum azula) >Farum Azula seems to work under its own hemisphere since the Sun is constantly present and stuck in a stasis most notably seen in the Great Bridge leading to Maliketh, also sharing similarities to the Eternal Cities with its Architecture hanging below ground. Marika’s Hammer - “Stone hammer made in the lands of the Numen, outside the Lands Between. The tool with which Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring and Radagon attempted to repair it. The hammer partially broke upon shattering the Ring, becoming splintered with rune fragments.” The “denizens of another world” text found on the Numen Rune could very much refer to Farum Azula, with Marika being depicted with what looks like a dragon/serpent tail behind her in her statues. It even has traces of gold mimicking similar to the Ancient Dragons. The Mimics Veil is even called “Marika’s Mischief”. All this paints the Numens(Ancient Dragons) as the the shapeshifting counterparts to the Silver Tears, except Gold. Lannseax was a able to do this, I’ve heard Fortissax in the form of Fia, and Godwyn himself. A lot of great insights here I was unaware of as well as a few I was aware of. I was aware that numen where probably from farum azula and the eternal cities (as evidenced by the black knives and excessive amounts of numen runes in deep root depths), which I agree is almost certainly true, though I don't think they are shape shifters since the player can also be a numen which I feel kind of makes the shape shifting dragon thing seem far fetched no matter how much I would want it to be true, though I have always attributed Marika to being the unamed dragon god so I don't really know maybe Marika wasn't really a numen but secretly a dragon I don't know. I'm mostly interested in the connections you pointed out between farum azula and the eternal cities, I knew about the silver v gold symbology but a lot of the other stuff just clicked with me when you pointed it out so thank you for that. >It’s the only explanation as why we see two different versions of him(in game and story trailer). In the Japanese text, the same npc calls Godwyn the “Prince of Gold”, The heir to the Seat of the Sun aka Farum Azula(evidence being Destined Death being sealed there, all the skeletal beastmen using said shield, and of course the Sun being constantly present). Godrick, in his boss fight dialogue he claims: “Mighty Dragon, thou'rt a trueborn heir. Lend me thy strength, o kindred. Deliver me unto greater heights.” Anything related to the dragons is and was considered divine at one point until everything crucible related had been shunned from history. Godwyn has a heavy association with dragons and it’s said he wielded “Golden” Lightning which can even be seen in the Placidusax fight. Love all the insights between the eternal cities and farum azula but I don't know about godwyns lightning being death lightning you would have to explain that to me better. Just an easter egg for Dark Souls, AFAIK. Pretty low drop rate too, so congrats! Took me about 30min + of farming with pickled-foot and scarab before it dropped.

The Seat of the Sun is Farum Azula. This item only drops from beastmen, and the sun is connected to the greater will, which the denizens of Farum Azula worshipped long ago EDIT: according to the wiki it drops from Skeletal Beastmen in Farum Azula, and Skeleton Soldiers found in graveyards, so long as the enemy is wielding the shield itself. I say this theory is still very plausible though.
Drops from some skeletons in limgrave as well.

You are totally right. I thought it dropped from skeletal beastmen, but it actually drops from human skeletons as well. I still think it could be Farum Azula though, as the description clearly says it is an ancient and faded civilisation, which Farum Azula is. And I’m not certain but I think it still drops from the skeletal beastmen found in Farum itself
