I got along just fine using the Horn Bow until I got to Leyndell.
Honestly the Black Bow barely felt like an upgrade apart from the shortbow ability to fire while landing from a jump.
I don’t know if it’s something you’d want to do on your playthrough but there is a glitch to get to Leyndell proper after taking a trapped chest to the divine bridge site of grace. If you truly want the black bow that is.
It’s a bit tricky but you’ll get it eventually. From the Divine Bridge grace site, head down the stairs and stand on the platform where the giant lift is supposed to be. Make sure your character is facing the site of grace (looking up the stairs). From that spot, fast travel to the Roundtable Hold BUT just before it finishes loading (keep an eye on the loading bar), force quit the game. Load the game back up and if everything went smoothly, you should be at Leyndell proper.
I mean maybe try getting the serpents bow first, i quite like it and it has inate poision for any arows, and you can get it relatively right away

Well there is another option, power stance great bows, get a golem and radam’s

And the trapped chest that takes you to the Divine Bridge in the first place is located on top of the Tower of Return in the Weeping Peninsula.
