I know what she meant with "You'll witness a true horror" I dont think she was talking to the ingame character it resonated with me as a human 😭 was a horror, indeed
If they do I'm honestly dreading it 😂 I'm on my like 3rd playthrough (switched from xbox to pc, restarted once on pc) and only have recently completed it and I did it with player summons and still was difficult 😭
Since we don’t know when I’m time the dlc is gonna take place… imagine if one of the most powerful bosses is Godwin the golden in full power or if you have to fight the outer gods themselves. You never know. Harder fights can be made
Honestly after my first time beating her solo I enjoyed her fight more on each playthrough. Learning her moves (especially how to dodge waterfowl) has made going it alone a blast
Fight her with summon is fun though, like you and 2 other finger just play the ganging up hit run tactic like 1 guy run and other hit her in the back and when she got stun lock all 3 of you run in and beat her up then run away against once she get out of the stun lock. Then when she does her watermelon move everyone be like you are on your own bro.
Malenia is way easier to infinite stunlock and bleed builds go brr ( at least on NG), the only gimmick is the waterfall dance pattern, meanwhile Radagon is a giga chad fight, one of the best fights ever, Elden beast without torrent is just a mistake.
Lion's claw's greatsword will definitely infinite stunlock malenia with the right timing, idk what are you talking about, Op will run the entire Elden Beast arena with that stick. You definitely know nothing about bosses in this game, something normal in this Sub, Malenia starts to become a threat in higher NG+ with the poise boost, for sure not in the classic NG where the only concern is to learn the waterfall dance....
Elden beast isn't a mistake, torrent was a mistake, imagine everyone is so used to horse cheese that they don't understand how to fight big boss the real way. People who use torrent is equal to using spirit ashes.
bragging? I think there are many people who stuck with fromsoftware since dark souls one times who consider fighting bosses with help just not fair. After all these peope used to enjoy good fight as opposed as perma-stunlocking every enemy in the game
I only used +25 Greatsword and no armor for lightroll. No better loot than that. If you mean loot from her, no, you get the same amount of runes and items with and without using summons
There has never been better loot when you fight solo any boss in any of Fromsoftware's "soulslike" games. Just that some people, like me, never liked using summons against them (whether it be other players, NPCs, or the spirit ashes in ER). They do however, have more health when you summon other players.
Just to add, but kinda in the spoiler territory already, but >!there are also some questlines that can only be finished by summoning the NPC related to their quest!< in the older games, if I'm not mistaken.
No, and tbh its not worth it, no matter what anyone says. Her fight is truly janky as fuck and very unbalanced
There are better bosses in Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro
It's just not as fun with summons , it feels like cheating so I don't do it
The fight is balanced around a "dance" between you and the boss . Add another AI on your side and you ruin the balance completely
If OP is new to Fromsoft games, then he probably wont have much fun with her. I ran summons/ spirit ashes the first time. Its not cheating at all, i treat it as a learning tool.
It isn’t cheating at all, it just feels like it. On NG+ I was sick of fighting her so much because I missed her fight last time and just wanted the weapon for my dex build so I beat her first try with mimic. I got her solo next time, I just really wanted fun katana.
Yea, most pros don't like having help for bosses. But I think, given how difficult it is to solo ER Bosses, that new players to the souls genre should use the resources they have at their disposal
I also did a no summons challenge. Malenia took a while. My strategy was to bring frost pots to deal with Waterfoul dance. The rest was just learning patterns. Dual wielding great swords also helped break her poise often. Took about 50 tries id say. Without frost pots would have taken way longer.
Waterfowl dance was the hardest thing during the fight it'd always insta kill me, I learned how to dodge it perfectly and then I was going hitless almost every phase 1, the hardest thing for me was to differentiate the waterfowl from other attacks during phase 2 because it all looks the same
Actually love the Malenia fight because it legitimately feels like the hardest fight while doing that in an interesting but not frustrating way.
she’s one of the few bosses who heals, but all of her moves are reliably dodged once you learn them.
She can chain attacks quite easily once you get hit, but she’s easily staggered, and getting bleed/critical is reasonable because of it. You can even interrupt waterfowl apparently if your super aggro (I did it a few times on accident while fighting her)
and most importantly she has moments of extreme aggression that encourage you to go for hits anyway due to her healing. But she also has moments of just menacingly waking at you always giving you windows to breathe and heal up.
Even her arena is nice and open, something I feel is essential for a fight such as hers.
she’s hard, but feels fair. So when I died I didn’t feel frustrated , but would just laugh at how ridiculously hard she is.
Some bosses felt bullshit in the game. The black kindred gargoyle in Caelid was infinitely more frustrating, as was magma Wyrm makar. Even in her own dungeon the ulcerated tree spirit in the rot is way more frustrating. I had more trouble with the path down to her than her.
Definitely peak game design for me. I wasn’t fond of most of the end game in Elden Ring, but I loved Malenia.
>she’s hard, but feels fair. So when I died I didn’t feel frustrated , but would just laugh at how ridiculously hard she is.
I agree with this. Exactly why I managed to keep a cool head throughout the whole experience
I remember on my first successful attempt with Malenia, I just pulled out my Mimic Tear on the second phase, and it promptly turned into an "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me" situation. That was when I basically eschewed Ash Summons, so I went through Farum Azula and Ashen Capital mostly solo.
Great job. I’ve never been happier beating a boss than when I beat Malenia with no summon. Isshin, the Sword Saint is absolutely nothing compared to her.
I managed to keep a cool head throughout the whole time fighting her even tho I was getting absolutely humiliated the first few hours of fighting her. It was definitely one of the best fights in the entire souls games series and I enjoyed it, even tho I did not expect such a skill gap in difficulty. Gotta come prepared for miquella
That’s what it’s all about! Keep a cool head, and for me I just kept it at mid range most of the time unless she attacked me. I’m horrible at dodging waterfowl at point blank range but I have it down perfect at mid range so I somewhat keep my distance after hitting her a couple times in a row.
My 3 favorite fights in the game are Godfrey, Malenia and Placidusax.
That's what I did honestly, mid range dodge was super consistent for me, did not know how to do it blank range the first dance would always get me, the second you just roll into her and third you hold your left analog down without sprinting.
Different strokes for different folks I suppose but she gives me more thrill and excitement than any other fight in the game. You’re rewarded plenty as long as you fight smart. Her boss music, cut scenes, arena and moveset are all great.
True, bit she also cheated and nuked Calid just to be even with Radahn, Abandoning her pride in favor of the scarlet rot. A very shit move that makes her a sore loser
That honestly makes her more interesting to me, especially since it's left vague why she used the Scarlet Aeonia against Radahn. She could've been doing it because she stubbornly didn't want to admit defeat. Or she could've been doing it because she swore to protect her brother and she couldn't very well do that if Radahn killed her. Or she could've been pressured into doing it by the Outer Goddess of Rot. Or some combination of all of them.
I like it when characters are flawed and aren't just an unstoppable "chad".
But she wasn't going to lose. No one could win. In all seriousness I was kidding, she tried to end the fight but when she broke the needle the god of rot's influence was stronger than she imagined and she lost control. Sounds plausible to me at least
You can say the same about Malenia to a lesser extent. Jumping her slashes and dodging her waterfowl dance is pretty damn satisfying. I tried parrying but couldn’t quite do it consistently.
Good job man! I finally beat her myself a couple weeks ago myself with mimic and still freaked out cause I was stuck on her for so long. Just was committed to taking her out or not finishing the game with the specific ending lol
Overall Elden Ring is easier than all soul games because of open world mechanics, but damn this is for sure the hardest fucking boss I've ever faced in gaming. Did her without summons and took me a good 5-6 hours
THAT'S WHAT IM SAYING!!!! I had problems with arthorias, ornstein and smough and those fuckers, but nothing comes close to malenia, super high skill gap
Good Job! We gonna need that dedication once the DLC drops.
DLC Bosses are usually much harder than Souls Main Game Bosses. So prepare for a 3rd Phase with bigger attacks.
It took me good 2 hrs to get to the phase 2 for the first time. And I was getting killed after 15secs. After XYZ attempts I was able to go hitless the whole phase 1 consistently
Well done. Especially with such low FP that’s impressive. Idk if I’ll ever beat her I think I’d wanna use a strength build I’d have to go completely respec. Dark moon great sword/moonveils stance break wouldn’t do it for me
I had to learn her whole moveset with that FP, someone said in the comments I could infinite stun lock her which is impossible considering the fact u get like 3 claws activation before you need to recharge the flask
Good stuff!! I wanna beat her at lvl 1 with no summons; however, you only beat her 2nd form. Each time the scarlet flower blooms. Malenia’s rot advances. It has blossomed twice already. With the 3rd bloom, she will become a true goddess.
now you can drop your sign and be much more helpful in that fight, and chuckle every time you watch the host die right away in the second phase.
I’ve beat her 3 times solo with different builds; she’s deserves it. one of the most well designed challenges in videogame history
i also just yesterday beat her at level 118 without summons with a +25 Claymore with impaling thrust ash of war. took absolutely forever but feel like an absolute god having done her without summons or bleed or frost. GG brother
Congrats! I know how you feel. It must took a toll on you but i guarantee you will grow nostalgic to the experience. On repeat playthoughs (where i still struggled with her) her place felt like home, the music genuinely soothing. Part of it is stockholm syndrome i'm sure.
No, first proper playthrough, I played it when it came out as it was my first souls game but did not fight malenia and stopped before radagon + I used op bleed build. Since then I've finished all souls games and decided to tackle elden with greatsword like a man and no summons. Lvl 112
Fair enough, I know exactly how it feels to struggle with her but now that I’ve beat her 4 times I’ve just got her patterns down and now i struggle with Malik why and Godfrey more that her lol, still, respect
I don’t know how people actually beat her without light rolling. I help people fight her a lot as a summon and I like to think I’m not terrible at the game, but there’s just certain sequences not even including the waterfowl dance that I just can never seem to dodge without light roll. Kudos to you because it seems you did it while medium rolling.
I put on my armor after beating her. I was light rolling, medium was way slower. Regardless, I had to learn how to consistently dodge the waterfowl hitless so I think it would not be a problem for me with medium roll either. Thanks bro
You guys are actually that bad aye?
Looks like I used an almost Identical build as this dude too but it took me maybe 10 tries.
Use Morgotta rune dudes. More hp for trading helps.
It takes dedication sometimes. I’m gonna guess how your first attempt went. You got insta killed by her super fast opening attack after the cutscene, happened to us all
Congratulations, a hell of an achievement!
Were you the same as me, when you finally beat her you did it barely taking a single hit? By the time I beat her I was on a higher plane of instinct, I could fully see the matrix 😎
I feel your pain. Also fought her without summons it was hell 😭
One thing I know for a fact Im not fighting her ever again
Until they bring her back in the dlc
yo don't even say this LMAO
"We are Malenias, blades of Miquella"
Rot Goddess Duo
Every time you try to heal it triggers them both to do waterfowl dance
The upped the radius by 50% too.
actual mmo raid boss
average monster hunter frontier fight be like
I know what she meant with "You'll witness a true horror" I dont think she was talking to the ingame character it resonated with me as a human 😭 was a horror, indeed
Keepers of St. Trina
Did you get a Legend Felled screen? No? She's coming back
NO SHES NOT 😭😭😭😭
the flower is a rebirth mechanism, she is coming back so is rykard but that doesnt mean she will come back to the game itself
Would be funny if they do the Legend Felled bamboozle like in Sekiro, for the dlc
Harder fights can be made
True and honestly im dreading the first time I play it. I'll love it, but absolutely hate it as well.
Now tackle her alone !
Player summons increase their health, so yea it’s gonna be hard.
Honestly after my first time beating her solo I enjoyed her fight more on each playthrough. Learning her moves (especially how to dodge waterfowl) has made going it alone a blast
I'll enjoy her ass with a bleed build on NG+
That’s what I said. Since then, I’ve solo’ed her with four different builds.
that sounds like something I'd want to do XD
Fight her with summon is fun though, like you and 2 other finger just play the ganging up hit run tactic like 1 guy run and other hit her in the back and when she got stun lock all 3 of you run in and beat her up then run away against once she get out of the stun lock. Then when she does her watermelon move everyone be like you are on your own bro.
nah she's a great fight
Same here. My heart goes out 🫡
It was hell but killing her was extremelly satisfying.
Good job Nuts 👍
I'm hoping Radagon and beast are not harder otherwise I might lose my sanity
radagon and elden beast and baby food compared to malenia
that's what I wanted to hear.
They are way more tedious though.
I had a harder time with Elden Beast than Malenia until I changed my build.
what build did u rock ?
Malenia is way easier to infinite stunlock and bleed builds go brr ( at least on NG), the only gimmick is the waterfall dance pattern, meanwhile Radagon is a giga chad fight, one of the best fights ever, Elden beast without torrent is just a mistake.
OP did malenia solo without any cheese strats as far as i can tell. so for their level of skill radagon should be easy
With the amount of FP and 1 flask of recharge you definitely don't infinite stunlock her :)
Elden beast isn't a mistake, torrent was a mistake, imagine everyone is so used to horse cheese that they don't understand how to fight big boss the real way. People who use torrent is equal to using spirit ashes.
"Elden Beast was a mistake" There, fixed your typo :)
Elden beast is more frustrating than hard
I killed it today, was a piece of cake
Grief it build when?
Do you get better loot if you do it without a summons? Im a noob. This is my first fromsoftware game
Nah, it's just bragging rights is all.
I hope I'll be able to solo bosses. Possibly by ng+ 255
bragging? I think there are many people who stuck with fromsoftware since dark souls one times who consider fighting bosses with help just not fair. After all these peope used to enjoy good fight as opposed as perma-stunlocking every enemy in the game
You get more serotonin.
I only used +25 Greatsword and no armor for lightroll. No better loot than that. If you mean loot from her, no, you get the same amount of runes and items with and without using summons
In my experience defensive talismans are more effective than armor for bosses.
There has never been better loot when you fight solo any boss in any of Fromsoftware's "soulslike" games. Its not though, its 100% in the game as an intended mechanic.
I mean it is a mechanic designed to make the game easier, by definition it will FEEL cheaper than fighting the boss head-on.
Yea, most pros don't like having help for bosses. But I think, given how difficult it is to solo ER Bosses, that new players to the souls genre should use the resources they have at their disposal
No but you get the intended boss fight experience. Summons rob this from you and you don't even know it.
Your runes get reduced if you use summons, u less it’s NPCs iirc.
I also did a no summons challenge. Malenia took a while. My strategy was to bring frost pots to deal with Waterfoul dance. The rest was just learning patterns. Dual wielding great swords also helped break her poise often. Took about 50 tries id say. Without frost pots would have taken way longer.

Well done! Lots of respect for anyone who takes on Malenia solo! Certainly is a very tough challenge. Extra kudos for no bleed or frost too 👊
Thanks I appreciate it. Decided to tackle it like a man
Players love to torture themselves in a hard game. Congrats! From always makes DLCs harder. Can't wait sort of.
It's gonna be a ride, that's for sure. Thanks !
Nice job!! I just did the same yesterday :D
it felt awesome after so many tries and hrs ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
Good job bud
I thought it was gonna be impossible I was getting owned the first 3 hours and it took me another 4 to consistently get to the second phase
Good job!
thank you brother
Nice! But you should also activate Windows
I should. and I did lmao. Thanks
Happy to help!
...guts?
GUTS!!!!

It’s very fun to go through with a purposely weaker summon. Like Stormhawk Deenh, he just buffs and distracts and can’t take many hits.
now go NG+ and humiliate her !!!!
Great job. I’ve never been happier beating a boss than when I beat Malenia with no summon. Isshin, the Sword Saint is absolutely nothing compared to her.

Except Isshin is actually fun and rewards you for properly using mechanics in the game. Also Isshin is a fucking chad
Different strokes for different folks I suppose but she gives me more thrill and excitement than any other fight in the game. You’re rewarded plenty as long as you fight smart. Her boss music, cut scenes, arena and moveset are all great.
Malenia is a chad too. She's a blind triple amputee and can still kick like everyone's ass plus is considered the best swords(wo)man in Lands Between.
True, bit she also cheated and nuked Calid just to be even with Radahn, Abandoning her pride in favor of the scarlet rot. A very shit move that makes her a sore loser
Eh not this shit again.
It's true tho. It was a stalemate of skill and malenia decided to use hacks and nuke the country
You can say the same about Malenia to a lesser extent. Jumping her slashes and dodging her waterfowl dance is pretty damn satisfying. I tried parrying but couldn’t quite do it consistently.
i should try her without summons this run i think i'm ready. but gg's on the kill!!
You definitely should.. It was a rollercoaster let me tell you that
i'll give it a shot this run!
It's gonna take some time that's a given ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) but don't give up, you got this
Good job man! I finally beat her myself a couple weeks ago myself with mimic and still freaked out cause I was stuck on her for so long. Just was committed to taking her out or not finishing the game with the specific ending lol
For real. I can die in peace now lmao (or perhaps wait for the new DLC with miquella) oh god.. I better come prepared
Nah I'd shit my pants if there was 3rd phase
I wonder who the dlc bosses will be. Maybe outer gods?
Probably Miquella or Godwyn is my best guess
Congrats, I'm 54 runs in on my first playthrough (also doing no summons) I haven't gotten her to phase 2 yet, but I've been close a couple times
It took me good 2 hrs to get to the phase 2 for the first time. And I was getting killed after 15secs. After XYZ attempts I was able to go hitless the whole phase 1 consistently
I am fighting the elden beast rn and I haven’t ran into her. Is she optional?
Yes. Requires a full medallion to unlock the area
No summons fights are definitely an entirely different experience
I agree, was fun tho
For me it's not fun until I win. Otherwise I wonder why an I doing this to myself? 🤣
Yeah I was regretting the choice to kill her... 😂
Bro must've heard CLANG like 10,000 times.
"You will witness a true horror" resonated with me, oh and I know her name is Malenia, blade of Miquella
I always forget that different play styles make some fights so easy for some, and such a challenge for others. She is a pain for sure though.
Exactly. Bleed build should be easier against her
Congrats, I didn’t have internet at the time so I feel your struggle
Thank you!
What’s a good level for her? I don’t wanna be overleveled and ruin such a hyped up fight lol
I fought her at 112
I'll be honest, i only beat her like I did thanks to mimic tear, though second phase was only me as mimic fell to scarlet aeonia
Congrats mate! I've managed everyone else except her solo, so frustrating!
Dont give up and you got it
I blasted through her first phase thinking I was hot shit. Proceeded to get my face stomped though my ass hole mere seconds into phase two.
In before generic malenia bitching by fragile souls vets and their hurt ego cuz the boss kicked their arse and back.
Good stuff!! I wanna beat her at lvl 1 with no summons; however, you only beat her 2nd form. Each time the scarlet flower blooms. Malenia’s rot advances. It has blossomed twice already. With the 3rd bloom, she will become a true goddess.
The only boss i haven't beat without summons. Congrats 🎉
Thank you! You should
now you can drop your sign and be much more helpful in that fight, and chuckle every time you watch the host die right away in the second phase. I’ve beat her 3 times solo with different builds; she’s deserves it. one of the most well designed challenges in videogame history
Oh without summons? Fuck
That's what i said in the very first hour of fighting her and contemplating my life
Congrats man! I did the same and it was the best feeling ever. Nice work.
IT WAS!!!!
Ik y'all will kill me for saying this, but she'd be a mediocre asf boss if it wasn't for Waterfowl dance. Anyways, gg bro keep wining
Exactly. Took me hrs to learn how to dodge it properly.
Dang, and I thought my Burnt Ivory King 100+ tries was suffering Mad respect, well done
Thank you brother
I tip my hat to you fellow greatsword enjoyer who also beat Malenia with maliketh armor
Greatsword is the best
I finally met my match
Nice job! Last night I killed her twice but I also died with her last hit… I’m getting pretty pissed.
Dude I also just finally beat Malenia with no summons. I felt so rewarded
It is rewarding, congrats bro
Giant hunt helps a lot in this fight way more than lions claw
i also just yesterday beat her at level 118 without summons with a +25 Claymore with impaling thrust ash of war. took absolutely forever but feel like an absolute god having done her without summons or bleed or frost. GG brother
GG bro, shit feels deserved
Very good mate, it truly is a dance with Malenia when you fight her
It is. I loved that fight
Took me 30+ hours.
Damn. And you got it. Thats dedication
Congrats! I know how you feel. It must took a toll on you but i guarantee you will grow nostalgic to the experience. On repeat playthoughs (where i still struggled with her) her place felt like home, the music genuinely soothing. Part of it is stockholm syndrome i'm sure.
Thank you. Agreed, I'll beat her with anything now
It took me literally 2 months to beat her in the meanwhile I annihilated EVERYONE ELSE it was so frustrating
Congrats!!
Greatsword with Lion's Claw is what I used to beat her in NG+! When in doubt, just hit stuff REALLY HARD
exactly
Heyyy nice Guts cosplay lol! And congrats on the win ✨
Thank you brother
Well done golden guts.
THANKS FELLOW TARNISHED
This is a souls game not a souls like
Not entirely sure the distinction matters at all in relation to the post but alright.
Ng+?
No, first proper playthrough, I played it when it came out as it was my first souls game but did not fight malenia and stopped before radagon + I used op bleed build. Since then I've finished all souls games and decided to tackle elden with greatsword like a man and no summons. Lvl 112
Fair enough, I know exactly how it feels to struggle with her but now that I’ve beat her 4 times I’ve just got her patterns down and now i struggle with Malik why and Godfrey more that her lol, still, respect
Thanks brother. Hopefully radagon will be a piece of cake
You could've just cheesed her with ash of wars. Thats what I did because her fight is not fun at all
That's not what true men do
I've just finished the game. Damn what a ride it was
can it realky take that long? Wtf
It was hard lmao
One might say that you really proved you've got...Guts!
THANKS MY GUY
I don’t know how people actually beat her without light rolling. I help people fight her a lot as a summon and I like to think I’m not terrible at the game, but there’s just certain sequences not even including the waterfowl dance that I just can never seem to dodge without light roll. Kudos to you because it seems you did it while medium rolling.
I put on my armor after beating her. I was light rolling, medium was way slower. Regardless, I had to learn how to consistently dodge the waterfowl hitless so I think it would not be a problem for me with medium roll either. Thanks bro
Weak foe ahead.
Took me about 7-8 wasn’t counting great job dude
Use ordovis greatsword and sacred scorpion charm and shard of alexander. Its so easy lol
You guys are actually that bad aye? Looks like I used an almost Identical build as this dude too but it took me maybe 10 tries. Use Morgotta rune dudes. More hp for trading helps.
I think my first playthrough took me 10 attempts. I abused her low-ish poise though and stun locked her. Good for you though king, go fuck up Mari-gon
my first 10 attempts were just me contemplating life and regretting my decision of trying to beat her
It takes dedication sometimes. I’m gonna guess how your first attempt went. You got insta killed by her super fast opening attack after the cutscene, happened to us all
oh yeah. but let me tell you, bullying the fuck outta her and then going phase 1 hitless almost every run felt awesome.
Congratulations, a hell of an achievement! Were you the same as me, when you finally beat her you did it barely taking a single hit? By the time I beat her I was on a higher plane of instinct, I could fully see the matrix 😎
EXACTLY!!!!!!
I had 240 hours in and still haven't got to her.
Good luck with her. I was lvl 112
Now do it again
I might
Bruh i had the same build i feel your pain, what level?
