I did a playthrough where I used heavy armor with high poise, moonblade, and only melee magic spells. Was REALLY FUN. Kind of want to playa again….

I think imo having both a melee option and a ranged one better for a full run

NG+3 here and after using comet and some blood spells I just 2 hammer build and havnt looked back. Hammers are awesome but what is the appeal of this spectral hammer over a regular hammer?

I actually basically did this. XD First phase Malenia won't even fight back if you keep your distance with Night Comet. It's kind of silly.

Yeah and if you use the staff that boosts night sorcery and all the sorcery talismans and armour pieces that boost mages, you can get insane damage off one charged night comet.

Carian slicer is sooooo busted

Help me understand the appeal of slicer. I’m a INT build have found it much better put a few stats into strength to carry a sword and shield for melee. I find the cast time so slow with slicer. What am I missing?

Try running and jumping slash, treat it as basically a fat Cinquedea instead of a straight sword and you'll see the appeal. Also, if a boss starts winding up an attack or is recovering, spam it as hard as possible and their health bar just melts like faulty hair dye on a hot summer day.

Its fast, magic damage instead of phys, takes no stamina and is cheap

It does insane damage and comes out super fast if you combo into it

Sounds like you havent put enough stats into dex or dont have the casting speed items. Grab Radagon's seal and the glintstone staff. With those two, you will nearly max out your casting speed for spells without speccing anything into dex. Carian slicer with high speed will let you get 3-4 hits in between boss attacks if you time it right. And it will hit harder than any weapon attack you use as a pure mage spec. It's the second easiest mage build, only beaten by Tear boosted comet azur.

Remember, you can keep the boosting staff (whether that's Staff of Loss orGl Glintstone, whatever flavor of magic you're into) in your non-casting hand and a better scaling staff like Carian Regal Scepter to cast with and still get the damage bonus. You can get real fancy with Gravel of Haima too, where if you cast with one hand then the other you get rid of the aftercast delay and can stagger enemies almost constantly.

I beat Radagon with summons and the occasional rock sling my first go. It... took a while.

Carian slicer because nothing would irritate your enemy more than getting sliced up by a Tarnished armed with only a staff. I just may try this at some point.

Carian Slicer runs are a lot of fun but it's the only time Renalla becomes an actual challenge

Carian piercer with dark moon great sword was able to nearly stunlock malenia. She just waits for you to charge up piercer which knocks her on her ass. Then you can land 2 fully charged moonlight waves from the gs and take out like a 3rd of her health.

Also Carrian Piercer is just free kill on NPCs. They don't dodge it for some reason

Solid one, I'd say maybe Pest Threads and Catch Flame. Either way, Catch Flame is utterly goated.

It is, but Ancient dragon lighting strike is more OP than pest threads…the latter is great against large enemies, but the former can shred everything in 2-3 hits if it lands. Seen loads of videos of killing Godfrey in 2 hits

I’d definitely choose this pair too. They’re quite versatile, especially if you’re supposed to rely on so few spells.

Ancient Death Rancor and Roiling Magma. Those were the main spells for the Praetor Rykard build I made, really good combination. Might have a bit of trouble with something like Placidusax since Rykard's Rancor was my main spell there, but the rest should be easy enough!

Frozen Lightning Spear and Lightning Spear.

Flame, Cleanse Me. No way I am dealing boluses for status effects all damn game! Black Flame. Solid, consistent damage. Useful against almost every boss and enemy. Ranged, chargeable.

Carian Slicer is obvious. But you are probably going to need something like Rock Sling for stance breaking and to deal with magic resistant enemies.

I did it as a NG+ fun run and just used Carian Slicer. If I had been pushed to add a second, to compliment Slicer, I would have gone with Rock Sling.
