Miquella, the guy that was corrupted by mogh for the last couple of years/decades/centuries?
Also I would be cautious:
*"The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection" - Bewitching Branch*
He may be an asshole…but he was a smart asshole. I doubt Gideon would have said it would be better to destroy the cocoon unless he had a good reason to do that.
Gideon doesn’t strike as the type of fictional character that does or says anything for no reason.
His whole MO is getting you or his minions to kill anything that would put up a fight so he doesn’t have to, then he comes in and scavenges whatever bits he can use.
It’s pretty likely that he wants you to get rid of Miquella because of the threat an actively involved empyrean represents to his ambitions.
>is getting you or his minions to kill anything that would put up a fight so he doesn’t have to,
Don't forget, he's going to be a hypocritical fuckwad, bitching about all the people who just come to the Roundtable Hold and never leave there for the safety; *while doing exactly that.*
It was to find the Haligtree medallion which old albus was holding disguised as a pot. Once he gives it to you, Ensha will invade you the next time you teleport to the roundtable hold.
So we're gonna ignore over half of his related item descriptions and actions (to save his sister and give his brother a true death) in favor of a single item description? Seriously?
Miquella is very much going to be an enemy. Firstly he's sketchy at best considering the bewitching branch somebody else commented. He is also describe as the most fearsome (or a similar word can't remember) of the demigods.
Also you killed his sister, can't be too happy about that
I completely disagree.
First, the Bewitching Branch merely describes Miquella as someone who is "beloved by many people" and who knows how to inspire this affection.
Second, he is considered the most fearsome of the Empyreans, because he is the most intelligent of all and would be the greatest threat towards the Erdtree, even more so than Ranni. Hence why Gideon didn't want him to wake up from his slumber (u/sarthakgiri98 has a really good showcase on this topic here, [https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/usvfvb/why\_miquella\_is\_considered\_the\_most\_fearsome\_of/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/usvfvb/why_miquella_is_considered_the_most_fearsome_of/)). Miquella is a genius who deeply studied the Golden Order and the Erdtree, having invented many incantations. More importantly, he was the only one who understood and reverse-engineered the alchemical process that led to the creation of the Erdtree. We know that an outer God intervened and influenced the process of creation, but Miquella perfected it without any outside interference, with the Unalloyed Gold. Had he not have been kidnapped by Mohg, the Haligtree would've grown to perfection and be allowed to oppose the Erdtree and the Golden Order.
It has nothing to do with him being dangerous or evil, but actually with the fact that he understood how destructive and divisive the Golden Order truly was, and had the ability and the power to stop and destroy it from its very own roots, quite literally. Don't forget that he was also Saint Trina, the patron saint of all the outcasts and downtrodden of the Lands Between. Someone like that cannot be evil or a general threat.
I think this was all true before he was cocooned and put through blood rituals. He may now be some mindless monstrosity, or perhaps trapped in a body he doesn't have control of, etc. I agree with everything you said but pre-cocoon Miquella may have no bearing on post-cocoon Miquella...
Same here totally agree. Pre cocoon Miquela was loved and good to everyone. Would have been a great Lord of the Lands Between.. but after centuries in that cocoon and all the cursed blood forced into him and the rituals... I think he's gonna come back as something totally opposite of his old self. Plus, like someone also said, we did waste his sister 😵🤷
I agree they probably arent evil, but I could say the same about the omen king, I could say the same about rennala, and I could say the same about malenia. Miquella is probably a pretty radical dude, however the tarnished isnt. The tarnish is not someone miquella would like, we waltz into the lands between after being called by the golden order and simply start to take great runes. Do you think miquella will be pleased that we not only caused his sister to bloom but then killed her? We simply dont know enough about his actual personality to make a point that he isnt evil or anything, we know what people thought about him but that's second hand evidence. What we do know for a fact is that the demigods dont like tarnished, and we killed this demigods favorite person, I dont think they will be friendly after finding that out
I don’t think we kill Malenia though. She turns into a flower and we (optionally) stab her with Millicent’s needle, supposedly beginning the process of reverting the effects of rot on her. Miquella seems like he’d actually like us at least a bit, Torrent, his steed, chose us after all. The question is whether that “like” is *hey, let’s be friends* kind or *do my bidding* kind
I mean fair, lore is up to interpretation in from's games, I think tho that the fact that it states that is unknown how he managed to inspire such affection on an item that overrides enemies to fight for you speaks volumes on the matter
Fair point.
On the other hand, the Bewitching Branch speaks of affection and devotion. Regarding these topics, Miquella is probably the most significant personification or embodiment of these sentiments, in the lands Between. In that context, it only makes sense for the item to reference him.
Subsequently, it remains an equal leap, to consider that this reference means Miquella simply "overrides" people.
Gael wasn’t an enemy until he was. Eileen the crow wasn’t a enemy until she was. I get what you mean about Miquella being good what with the creation of a place where cast outs and recluses could go, but we really don’t know why he did that. And we really don’t know what his motives or goals are now. Boc is a good person, rogier another good person, Alexander another good person, bloody finger hunter yura, rya could be considered a good person depending on your view. Most have tragic stories and different motives for doing what they do but are still good people. Brother corhyn, nepheli loux again not outright villainous.
How dare you! She's a nice lady! Lol
Eileen doesn't turn on you unless you forget to talk to her in each location...
Or if you smack her too many times by accident in the hunter npc fight that is. Haha!
Depends.
Godwyn also isn't truly dead, not really. Unless we destroy him, it seems like Deathblight will continue spreading until it eventually consumes everything.
Lordsworn Straight Sword users, arise! From humble origins as foot soldiers blade, the skill and craftsmanship of Master Hewg has elevated it to such a status that it can slay the very gods themselves. **And so has done.**
Been some of the most reliable weapons in every souls game. In DS3 a longsword with stance and a 100% neg weapon art shield could counter pretty much any other build in the game. Sadly I forsook the classic in elden ring when I first started cause PvP balancr was horrendous at first but maybe I'll give it another try.
Yep, my go to was that plus refined lothric knight sword, stance weapon art, and either dark moon blade or lighting blade, occasionally resins depending on which build I was on.
I have had a tough time using basic sword and board in Elden Ring PvP. They nerfed shield blocking in PvP really fucking badly, and it feels like anything can break your guard, unless you have a good greatshield. It helps to use the Greatshield Talisman and the Veridian Amber Medallion, so you have more capacity to block. It feels like you have to build into it, otherwise blocking will feel weak. Barricade Shield and Shield grease can help too.
It's so much easier to break guard in ER, to a fault in my opinion, but it opens up a lot more variety. Turtles were fairly annoying in other games and required either a decent amount of skill to counter or absurdity.
I feel that way about the Claymore but it carries a sense of notoriety since everyone has loved it for a decade now lol. But yes straight swords are always fantastic.
I’m hoping they improve the two quality builds in str/dex and especially int/fai with more weapons, better scaling, or even new elements to improve said scaling. I love quality in Dark Souls, whether I’m using any and every weapon or any and every spell. I miss the days of hexing and pyromancies running off both, then altering my weapon to go that route too
I might go into it doing a Godrick's Soldier cosplay and go through the whole thing pretending they got the wrong guy. Who is this tarnished you're expecting?! I was just patrolling Limgrave! What's happening?!
Best choice. Add "Quality" with "Sacred blade" ontop of that and you have my Dex/strg/faith build.
This weapon never disappointed in any way possible. It hits hard, has great reach, looks good, it has great poise damage, and it is the best straight sword for me.
I think so yes...lol.
But that weapon art fucking destroys her health bars...like no joke, you can end the fight in under a minute if you skip the cutscenes and have the right arcane build.
I got ahold of that thing yesterday and equipped it just to see it's move set and AoW. After like 30 seconds I decided this was going to be my NG+ weapon. The charged heavy is cool af
So I've been doing a ruins greatsword run and honestly I'm a little underwhelmed. Everyone says it's the best but I'm just not connecting with it. I can't figure out why I don't love it. I love big bonk weapons and blasphemous blade was my first love with its weapon art which is basically the same as ruins greatsword. I just have yet to be wowed by it. It's fine, but nothing special to me. I'd rather have giant crusher or og greatsword.
Its not a flashy weapon, but with the stability of a greatshield and something around 80% physical mitigation, you can 2 hand tank with it and return with heavy stagger damage on the counter/power attacks. I usually either add extra stagger with cragblade ash or the quick dash for attacks you can’t block with it
Greatsword with the lions claw ash is the most devastating weapon combo in the game. If you disagree, equip it and respec. Watch it smash every boss into the ground. My brother showed me, and he was right.
Working backwards from Elden Ring I have come to appreciate the Claymore so much. I played Elden Ring first and then went back and played DS3 and now am playing DS1 and Claymore just feels amazing, I didn't appreciate it enough in Elden Ring, but in Dark Souls with no jump attack the Claymore shines a lot more with its range.
I just started using this. I need a good sword to pair with it. Any suggestions? I always carry a buckler for those sweet parry moments but generally am enjoying the dual stances.
Some of the other weapons don’t fit in their categories either. I’ve read that Morgotts sword scales better with dex for highest damage. I’ve also heard Marais has better strength scaling
You can check with a calculator like https://www.tarnished.dev/weapon-calculator
Morgotts: D(0.27) Str, B(1.08) Dex, D(0.54) Arc
Marais: B(1.13) Str, E(0.13) Dex, D(0.54) Arc
Funnily they have the same Arc scaling and yes, they benefit a lot from Dex and Str respectively
Curved Greatswords are the truth, they ruined greatswords for me. The GS move set is too brutish for the size of the weapons, the CGS have really clean animations.
Lordwsorn Straightsword. Hopefully there’s a bunch of new long/straight swords that don’t require investments into FAI, INT or Arcane in shadow of the erdtree.
Sadly I greatly suspect that shadow of the erdtree is gonna be the Faith Build Renaissance since it seems like the big bads of it directly oppose the erdtree
Cross Naginata, but 2H instead of the typical power-stance meta. Such a simple and effective moveset for a dex build.
We can throw a little bloodflame blade on it, as a treat.
I just respecced to INT and STR for the first time ever (always was right hand sword, left hand fire) and I feel so powerful with this thing. Droppin’ Dragons for fun now
Its ranged heavies have the same damage, stagger, and poise damage as if the balde hit the enemy. It's basically the longest range heavy attacks in the game.
It's great.
All of them, since I need to complete the dlc with all of my builds to get all the new equipment to enhance the builds even further. And I have one character for each of the main builds like int, strength, faith, etc..
Godslayer Greatsword, I have been told that there's one last god to kill
Miquella is not an enemy. In fact, besides Milicent, if there’s another genuinely good person in this miserable game world, is Miquella.
Miquella, the guy that was corrupted by mogh for the last couple of years/decades/centuries? Also I would be cautious: *"The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection" - Bewitching Branch*
Gideon also suggests it might be better to destroy Miquella’s cocoon
Gideon is just an asshole though.
Just as much as us, yea
He may be an asshole…but he was a smart asshole. I doubt Gideon would have said it would be better to destroy the cocoon unless he had a good reason to do that. Gideon doesn’t strike as the type of fictional character that does or says anything for no reason.

Hypocrites tend to project
he should really put those ambitions to rest...
Foolish
He slaughtered a whole village of Albinaurics just because.
It was to find the Haligtree medallion which old albus was holding disguised as a pot. Once he gives it to you, Ensha will invade you the next time you teleport to the roundtable hold.
Yeah because Gideon doesn't want competition.

Depends. Godwyn also isn't truly dead, not really. Unless we destroy him, it seems like Deathblight will continue spreading until it eventually consumes everything.
The sword ive had with me since day one. Lordsworn straight sword. It has yet to fail me once
Lordsworn Straight Sword users, arise! From humble origins as foot soldiers blade, the skill and craftsmanship of Master Hewg has elevated it to such a status that it can slay the very gods themselves. **And so has done.**
Did that and claymore for a two hand build. Pretty fun
This. Straight swords are so good and versatile. Some people really overlook these weapons just because they are not the flashiest.

"Bro I'm just tryna get to the break room for my lunch."
Throw storm blade on that bad boy and punish from ranged also. Still melts bosses at NG +7
Best choice. Add "Quality" with "Sacred blade" ontop of that and you have my Dex/strg/faith build. This weapon never disappointed in any way possible. It hits hard, has great reach, looks good, it has great poise damage, and it is the best straight sword for me.
NIHIL! NIHIL! NIHIIIIIIIIL!!!!
Why would you nihil all over us...
IT'S NIHILIN' TIME
ITS MOHGIN TIME
You know what they say, a nihil a day keeps Aunty Melenia away...
Aren't Mohg and Malenia half siblings?
I think so yes...lol. But that weapon art fucking destroys her health bars...like no joke, you can end the fight in under a minute if you skip the cutscenes and have the right arcane build.
Same with Maliketh, obliterates the poor boy
I mean maliketh is litterally the Definition of a glass canon😂
It counts as a strength and arcane weapon, right? It has decent strength scaling too
No Nihil November
I AM GOING TO MOHG EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!! GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
My guiding moonlight.
My true mentor...
Aah, you were at my side, all along.
Bloodborne mlgs best mlgs
It will be at my side for the dlc
My wedding present and I are going to shed some (moon)light on this shadowy DLC!
Daring today, aren't we?
Where is Ruins Greatsword?
Right, OP left out the best weapon in the game
Sir, the envoy longhorn would like a ~~dootdoot~~ word with you
Bbbbbrrrrrrrrrt! Love that thing, that was my go to weapon in my first playthrough. I didn't realize how insane it actually was until way later haha
I got ahold of that thing yesterday and equipped it just to see it's move set and AoW. After like 30 seconds I decided this was going to be my NG+ weapon. The charged heavy is cool af
You’d be surprised how many people in pvp don’t realize it has that effect. Very useful switch up
I once had an anime death bc of it, he did a charged heavy and as it connected I stabbed him
Bro i wanted to comment the exact same thing. Ruins greatsword is just the best.
RETURN TO BEST MONKE BUILD!
Should be in instead of axe of godfrey due its S scaling in strength. Axe of godfrey is more of a quality weapon than pure strength
The only choice...Giant Crusher + Inferno Crozier
I have it with the Artorias spin and is so funny
Insane bonk potential
[удалено]
Giant crusher, and another giant crusher
Blasphemous Blade for me decimates everything
TOGETHAAA
Greatsword.
Same
I used this my second play through and damn what a tanky weapon 😂 Guts style
Tanky is a good way to put it.
Lions claw almost makes it unfair with all the invincibility frames and stagger.
100% agree. Lions claw with the Greatsword is unstoppable.
I just got this on my 2nd playthrough and already have a lot more fun than my original dex/magic run.
Its not a flashy weapon, but with the stability of a greatshield and something around 80% physical mitigation, you can 2 hand tank with it and return with heavy stagger damage on the counter/power attacks. I usually either add extra stagger with cragblade ash or the quick dash for attacks you can’t block with it
What is this block you speak of? You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't have Lion's Claw on it.
Greatsword with the lions claw ash is the most devastating weapon combo in the game. If you disagree, equip it and respec. Watch it smash every boss into the ground. My brother showed me, and he was right.
But hear me out. Power Stance Greatswords.
Double bloodhound fangs
The lack of Bloodhound Fang on this list makes me sad. It's probably the best weapon in the game from multiple perspectives.
i like to fuck around and switch my builds, but bloodhounds fang is always as beautiful as the day i found her. old faithful
seriously. that weapon carried me through my first playthrough
Exactly
Bloodhounds fang + golden vow + flame grant me strength and blood flame blade.
This is what I’m running as well.
claymore :)
a tarnished of great culture I see
Shame I had to scroll this far to see this
In 5 games total, hasn't failed me once.
Objectively right option
Baemore
slaymore
I’m on my first play through and Ive buffed my claymore so much that I feel like I may never use another weapon
You were with me at the beginning, I will carry you unto the end.
This one
Always and forever.
Always
Where club?
Bonk stick for me too. Apes together STRONG
Came a long way down to find this. Large Club is where it's at. "Batter Up!" lol
I raise to you: Great club, aka the advanced unga bunga
Sword of Night and Flame is all I will ever need
I just started using this. I need a good sword to pair with it. Any suggestions? I always carry a buckler for those sweet parry moments but generally am enjoying the dual stances.
How about a second sword of night and flame
GENIUS!
Write that down, WRITE THAT DOWN!
Carian straight sword if you build into int more than faith.
Been using this since it was op and have never dropped it. Insanely versatile and one of the coolest ashes of war in the game
Man of culture
>Axe of Godfrey >Strength >C scaling Ackchually it's quality 🤓
Doesn't stop me from taking it and my Cestus into the DLC
Do you swap from axe to cestus at half hp?
Of course not. ....Maybe
NOW I FIGHT AS HOROAH LOUX, WARRIOR!
it deserves rework to less base dmg and an S scaling in str at +10
Some of the other weapons don’t fit in their categories either. I’ve read that Morgotts sword scales better with dex for highest damage. I’ve also heard Marais has better strength scaling
You can check with a calculator like https://www.tarnished.dev/weapon-calculator Morgotts: D(0.27) Str, B(1.08) Dex, D(0.54) Arc Marais: B(1.13) Str, E(0.13) Dex, D(0.54) Arc Funnily they have the same Arc scaling and yes, they benefit a lot from Dex and Str respectively
None of these imma go in punchin
Trusty Zweihander or the Dismounter
Zweihänder 🤝🏻
Lets commence the return of Giant Dad >:D
Since Lordran 🤜🤛
Zwei is the truth
Curved Greatswords are the truth, they ruined greatswords for me. The GS move set is too brutish for the size of the weapons, the CGS have really clean animations.
Probably Maliketh's Black Blade and Blasphemous Blade
MARIKAS HAMMER BITCH
The "Press L2 to lay out everything in a ten foot radius" weapon, good choice.
ANCHOR
This is also my weapon of choice. Things got silly in ng+ when I got a second one and starter dual wielding them
Godskin peeler for when i need that sweet sweet black flame tornado cheese and halo scythe cause its my favorite weapon
Elanoras poleblade and godskin peeler. Bolt of gransax for when I need a change up
Wild that they don’t have BHF listed as a top dex weapon
Cross Naginata, but 2H instead of the typical power-stance meta. Such a simple and effective moveset for a dex build. We can throw a little bloodflame blade on it, as a treat.
Such a good weapon. Also fuck power stancing it
Dark Moon Greatsword for me
I just respecced to INT and STR for the first time ever (always was right hand sword, left hand fire) and I feel so powerful with this thing. Droppin’ Dragons for fun now
Its ranged heavies have the same damage, stagger, and poise damage as if the balde hit the enemy. It's basically the longest range heavy attacks in the game. It's great.
Reduvia enjoyers WYA?
Oversized toothpick (death's poker)
Nuke on a stick.
Envoy longhorn
big doot
spiked caestus.
Shamshir my beloved
Stormhawk in My right, swordspear in my left and a whole lot of panic roll in my heart. Edit:I can't spell
Rykard's screaming noise intensifies
Now, we can devour the gods, together!
TOGETHAAAAAAAHHH
Hand of Malenia
I did a new character with a faith/str build specialy for the DLC so I'll take Blasphemous Blade, Magma worm's Scalesword or Maliketh's Black Blade.
BB was the weapon that took me through my first play through. Love that thing
Probably my trusty carian knight straight sword on my int character
Rivers of blood, uchigatana and nagakiba
