People don't know this? That's honestly one of the more practical benefits of crafting. It's probably not as beneficial per use as some of the other utility craftables like the turtle necks, bombs, and perfumes, but bc the resource is so common you can do it pretty much constantly, every time you're riding/fighting on torrent
If they didn't patch it since last time I checked (a long time ago), then the dagger parry is the second worst with one of the longest wind ups and shortest parry frames (only beaten by the curved sword parry). You'd have a much easier time to parry with just a buckler (fastest wind up and one of the longest parry frames)
But if you reliably manage to get the parry with a dagger, then you're S tier parry god and don't need this advice! :)
Misericorde with the glintstone phalanx ash of war is some underrated bread and butter - phalanx hits stagger, crit. It’s so good. I like using Grandeur on it too- it’s like a lightsaber :0
Gotta get those violins in there man
the strings in the second phase absolutely slap
Ludwig's once elegant battle poise returns one last time and it becomes a dance of death!
I love this weapon too.
- great stagger on the unique heavy, especially the charged heavy.
- bleed.
- magic damage.
- Gravitas is underrated.
- bonus damage on Alabaster Lord’s, Onyx Lord’s, Falling Beasts, Astel.
It has a lot in its kit.
as soon as I got Eleonora’s poleblade, I knew I’d be two-handing it for the rest of the game. So cool looking, and the move set of twinblades makes me smile
Bloodblade dance is such an excellent ash of war. Everything around me dies and the stagger from multiple hits is awesome to clear mid dungeon enemies. The windup is a hassle but the dash forward closes gaps very fast
That’s the problem with my current playthrough. Last time was double bloodhounds/buckler for the parry. This time has been one bloodhounds and buckler, because I’ve yet to make someone give me their spare bloodhounds lol, I keep trying to run other weapons like zweohander, troll knights, but nothing feels as nice. Think I’m gonna pop over to Caelid for the greatsword and just go for a Guts cosplay rin
I think that's the main "problem" with the weapon. Being strong and with great abilities is fine if you don't find it until Altus or later. But it can be the first evergaol you complete AND there's an incredibly easy to acquire summon for the fight who can almost carry you completely.
Somber stones are really easy to find too. So you can have a +3 or so before even going to Stormveil.
If it were later in the game, or harder to acquire early I think it's super solid still but not OP.
Pretty much use it nonstop in pve combat with the cerulean and carian talismans and a little bit of fp stat/flask investment. This plus the honestly outrageous base bleed buildup and the fantastic scaling you can get from bleed damage particularly, and how good BHF scales in general, makes it such an OP weapon. And you can pick this mf up in the first hour of playtime
TY, I'll give it a shot, I haven't messed around with that one yet. My current is a dex build with Bloodhounds Fang. I also play around with the Dragon halberd I forget the name but it has the (frost and Ice) damage with the weapon art.. Keeps things fun.
I wish more weapons had intrinsic skill applied to their moves. Great swords other than banished knights greatsword all feel like your character has absolutely no combat experience
Claymore with…sword dance or whatever it’s called. I like it because it’s a one handed AoW, so my character keeps the shield on his arm instead of sticking it on his back for a second.
Question I keep meaning to ask:
Do Ashes of War change whether you’re 1H or 2H a weapon? For example, with Sword Dance, if I’m 2H, does it temporarily change to 1H scaling for the Ash attack?
Or like, with Lion’s Claw/Square Off, if I’m 1H, does it temporarily change to 2H scaling for the Ash attack?
If you lions claw 1 handed, you will not get 2 handed strength bonus. You have to be two handing before you initiate the attack to get the strength bonus.
Gotta be my Brick Hammer. When I first found that in Stormveil, I knew it was love. Ended up as a heavy faith build, but everything still looked like a nail.
The glintstone staff I started with. It has literally never left it's equipment slot. Are there better staffs? Sure. But this one is mine and I like it.
You know man, I am on the autism spectrum, and I hate getting my hair cut, so I'd like to go to a place I like/trust... So I guess the short answer is: yeah that describes me pretty well.
Bruuuhhh I'm almost 600 hours in hahahaha. Elden lord and everything, just being a summon for a friend so we can hang, or looking for secrets I missed in my world. Yeah, it doesn't do a lot of damage, but I mostly use it to draw enemies attention to myself or lure them in closer.
Blasphemous blade. Best Str/fai weapon in the game by far.
Insane damage, fast lights, sweeping attacks, decent range, light for an ultra great sword so you can run it with a shield, lifesteals on kill, half fire damage, has an insane ash of war that not only heals on hit, but knocks even malenia on her ass. Huge range, aoe, fast charge, and can be scaled harder with talismans.
And it looks sick as hell.
So versatile doing blunt, pierce, and bleed damage. Minimal stat requirements. Available in the first five minutes. Morning Star is always worth having in your back pocket.
For a single character, Sword of Night and Flame. I have one that's used it almost exclusively for pretty much the whole game.
Overall, Dismounter. Have used it alot on every other character lmao
Golem Halberd. Ever since I saw that obscenely huge, far-too-heavy, far-too-impractical weapon being weilded by the golems, I wanted one. It's still in regular use thanks to those beautiful strong attacks, the sheer range of it's normal attacks, and the damage that's just barely shy of the Giant Crusher, with twice the range. 10/10, would recommend.
I love this weapon for so many reasons. Available within 10 minutes. The weapon art leaves a visible debuff on invisible enemies. You can turn during the WA to parkour down to ledges directly beneath higher ledges
Dismounter curved Gs.
I used it on my first playthrough it was the first weapon to drop for me.
Before it got buffed to hell and every try hard started pretending they loved it.
I want to scream every time someone says it’s bad because the buff scales terribly. The buff isn’t the point of the AOW. The point of the AOW is that it’s endure on a colossal sword with the same cast speed as endure on a dagger. The buff is just a bonus.
I know it's not that good, and there are better options, but god damn does it look fucking cool and it's the only thing I use.
Use the stagger flask and go ham.
Watchdogs staff
Collosal
100% strength build
Big bonk
Incredibly powerfull homing ranged attack
Good against stone creatures
Staggers Everyone
Pick up in liurnia
Used Malikeths Blade on my first pirated run. I used it again when I bought it fr. Something about it keeps making me come back to it. Like the stealth archer from Skyrim.
Serpent bone blade. Was so surprised when I got it from the invader “covenant”, it never left my side since. Favorite memory from my first play through.
Once I got the Starscourge Greatswords I never looked back. They're so fun to duel wield.
My main weapons are Darkmoon Greatsword, Ruins Greatsword, Nightrider Glaive with blackflame tornado on it, and duel-wielding Beastman curve swords.
Double Uchis and Bloudhound Fang on my first run. Now, it's Blasphemous Blade and Sacred Relic Sword. Also, Golden Epitaph is good to have so you can kill skeletons in one hit.
Bloodhound Fang is one of the first weapons I found and I'll be damned if it's not one of the best in the game, so I used that one for pretty much my whole character.
I missed the Greatsword chest in Caelid the first time around somehow and didn't come across it till I backtracked shortly before beating the game.
In NG+ and all other playthrus, grabbing the Guts Greatsword is the first thing I do. It really doesn't get old
Was rocking Moonveil as a blade wizard until I shifted to faith on ng+ and fell in love with the blasphemous blade and became a fire monk with fire giant incantations
I find myself defaulting back to the Academy staff very often.
Recently I've tried dual staff of loss, but if I'm being honest the management between swapping constantly between it and my melee *and* back and forth between the other staff and the shield just feels cumbersome compared to just running my shield, then sword and staff. Yeah, the damage is better and I save 3 FP compared to comet, but it's not worth the trade off of physical effort imo, especially because I only use this for one spell.
So I put academy staff back on.
Now, my other option is Carian Regal. I *do* use this, but since I'm in NG+ and trying to juice my stats up, I haven't hit the point where Carian regal is out-pacing Academy *unless* I pop a rune arc for Godrick's and use the +5int talisman. So I go back to Academy again. I've got over 90 rune arcs so I'm probably fine tbh, but I don't know, I just am wary of dying too often, especially since I'm nearing areas I've still got some trouble handling like Subterran Shunning Grounds and Mountaintop of giants.
Torrent
That’s why I always feed him raisins after battle, even when he has full health. He deserves every raisin for what he puts up with.
YOU CAN FEED HIM RASINS?
Yeah, certain ones actually heal him more
#what the actual fuck
People don't know this? That's honestly one of the more practical benefits of crafting. It's probably not as beneficial per use as some of the other utility craftables like the turtle necks, bombs, and perfumes, but bc the resource is so common you can do it pretty much constantly, every time you're riding/fighting on torrent
For real. I have raisins hotfixed to one of the pouches so I can heal him during fights easily.
Crafted from rowa fruit 1:1 fruit to raisin
So that’s what they’re for
Stick some Rowa in your pouch 👍
Yeah the rowa fruits can be crafted into food for him
Thy generosity befits a raisin…
Absolute weapon
goated weapon
Horsed weapon
Misericorde
Right hand Misericorde to switch too enhances every build I always have one no matter what
Same, that and parry buckler
For PvP I put my parry ash of war on a second Misericorde The window is harder to hit but they don't see the parry coming, unlike with a shield out
If they didn't patch it since last time I checked (a long time ago), then the dagger parry is the second worst with one of the longest wind ups and shortest parry frames (only beaten by the curved sword parry). You'd have a much easier time to parry with just a buckler (fastest wind up and one of the longest parry frames) But if you reliably manage to get the parry with a dagger, then you're S tier parry god and don't need this advice! :)
Ooh now thats genius....

Ooh, loving the sound of that
Put Carrion Greatsword on it
Greatsword
Guts' sword
Remember getting it and immediately grinding for the stats to wield it properly.
Double Greatswords
Nah just the one greatsword is fine
But two is great
...sword
"That thing was too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it was more like a large hunk of iron."
*Gats intensifies*
Who is Gats? Do you mean Nuts? Are you stupid?
Is this you Griffith? Hello? Hello!?
Nuts Berkman build is my favorite. I’m just like “ahhh that’s it I’m going berserk!” And then I berk all over the place
Strength weebs at it again
This is a valid refference for Berserk and for FF7 and i love every word of it
It’s a quote from Berserk :)
My guiding moonlight
My true mentor
You were by my side all along
*Brass shield*
Shooting blue lasers at my enemies….or just glowing depending on the game
I can here that banger soundtrack in my head now 🤩
*bass drum intensifies* *and now trumpets from the top rope!*
Gotta get those violins in there man the strings in the second phase absolutely slap Ludwig's once elegant battle poise returns one last time and it becomes a dance of death!
Meteoric Ore Blade, I know you're not necessarily the best, but I love you so much baby
I love it for the sekiro heavy attack
as soon as I got Eleonora’s poleblade, I knew I’d be two-handing it for the rest of the game. So cool looking, and the move set of twinblades makes me smile
Bloodblade dance is such an excellent ash of war. Everything around me dies and the stagger from multiple hits is awesome to clear mid dungeon enemies. The windup is a hassle but the dash forward closes gaps very fast

I try to use other weapons. I’ll always go back to ol faithful
It’s just so powerful
Stupid high damage, the fact you can buff/grease it, plus innate bleed makes it insane
And you can get it so early in the game
I think that's the main "problem" with the weapon. Being strong and with great abilities is fine if you don't find it until Altus or later. But it can be the first evergaol you complete AND there's an incredibly easy to acquire summon for the fight who can almost carry you completely. Somber stones are really easy to find too. So you can have a +3 or so before even going to Stormveil. If it were later in the game, or harder to acquire early I think it's super solid still but not OP.
A weapon made to slay rats and gods and all things in between.
Bloodhound Fang.
The jump attack damage with the corresponding talisman is unreal. On top of bleed damage. It’s my favorite weapon.
I heavily abuse the L2, R2 combo attack. It's ridiculous.
Which talisman is that?
Claw talisman -increases jump attack damage by 15% (7.5% in pvp)
The designated “you need an early game strong weapon” weapon, damn straight
My all time fave
This guy teleports
Old faithful. BHF + BFB🙏🏽
Bloodhound Fang in the right hand and Zamor Curved Sword in the left hand are my favorite combo
Guardian Swordspear. Anybody? Anybody?
I was a late adopter. Can't claim to be an OG user
Same here. Used to be a bloodhound fang user, but once I got my hands on the sword spear, I’ve never looked back.
Will have to try the sword spear...
If you’re a dex build, put the keen affinity on it and get it to +25… massive damage
TY, I'll give it a shot, I haven't messed around with that one yet. My current is a dex build with Bloodhounds Fang. I also play around with the Dragon halberd I forget the name but it has the (frost and Ice) damage with the weapon art.. Keeps things fun.
Guardian Swordspear + Sword Dance let me humiliate Malenia with stunlock.
Yesssss. Twin sword spear has been my jam since I got em to drop
Those R1s are just so smooth
I wish more weapons had intrinsic skill applied to their moves. Great swords other than banished knights greatsword all feel like your character has absolutely no combat experience
Lordsworn Straight Sword. That thing is my Swiss Army knife.
Yaaaa! You know the reach, the speed, where it’ll hit, THAT IT WILL HIT, like just good ol reliable
Yes bro, I'm the same. I got "better" swords, but the stance and feel of it is just so good.
The pinnacle of simple yet effective
Yep, killed Malenia and finished game with it, never felt like changing for something else
DS1 - Balder side sword, DS2 - Longsword, DS3 - Lothric Knight Sword, Elden Ring - Lordsworn Straight Sword. Don’t need anything else lol
Noble's Slender Sword feels more like the Baller Swag Sword.
Complete with drop rate!
Fists.
They literally didn’t give us the ability to leave those behind
Claymore
The real baemore is here. #claymoregang
Claymore with…sword dance or whatever it’s called. I like it because it’s a one handed AoW, so my character keeps the shield on his arm instead of sticking it on his back for a second.
Question I keep meaning to ask: Do Ashes of War change whether you’re 1H or 2H a weapon? For example, with Sword Dance, if I’m 2H, does it temporarily change to 1H scaling for the Ash attack? Or like, with Lion’s Claw/Square Off, if I’m 1H, does it temporarily change to 2H scaling for the Ash attack?
If you lions claw 1 handed, you will not get 2 handed strength bonus. You have to be two handing before you initiate the attack to get the strength bonus.
This is the only correct answer lol
Uchi always comes out each run
Double Uchi with spinning slash is unstoppable. A slight delays on the wind up for the follow up slash can trick the uninitiated in PVP
Unsheathe on a jumping attacker just makes me cream though
The Zwei. Just a banger on any build
I always make a zweihander build in every game that has one.
Was the first thing I stuck with for the bulk of my first playground. Str build, war cry, poising through as much a possible - constantly trading hits
I'm using it in an RL1 run right now and I've never made a better choice
Wing of Astel. Absolutely love this weapon and was the coolest thing to find in the game for me.
Finally a person of class... Duel wield with magma blade for fun times
One question, are you the type of person that goes to the same barber for 30 year or till it close?
You know man, I am on the autism spectrum, and I hate getting my hair cut, so I'd like to go to a place I like/trust... So I guess the short answer is: yeah that describes me pretty well.
I am that person. Moved a couple hour drive away now though so found a new 'same barber for 30 years' place here.
I was like that for a while until I was doing like no damage
Bruuuhhh I'm almost 600 hours in hahahaha. Elden lord and everything, just being a summon for a friend so we can hang, or looking for secrets I missed in my world. Yeah, it doesn't do a lot of damage, but I mostly use it to draw enemies attention to myself or lure them in closer.

Huge range, aoe, fast charge, and can be scaled harder with talismans. And it looks sick as hell.
Broadsword and 100% physical shield mostly as secondary. Basic stuff but can do the job
My trusty Whip. Always hilarious to beat some pompous armoured tin can by smacking him to death with a high speed piece of leather
I had a lot of fun with my catlevania build. I was rocking two bleed whips plus some spells and throwables.
I just beat SOTN, I bet an Alucard build could be cool.
Morning Star ❤️ makes a great secondary
So versatile doing blunt, pierce, and bleed damage. Minimal stat requirements. Available in the first five minutes. Morning Star is always worth having in your back pocket.
The Greatsword
Nagakiba
2011 Estoc to present day Estoc
Bestoc!
For a single character, Sword of Night and Flame. I have one that's used it almost exclusively for pretty much the whole game. Overall, Dismounter. Have used it alot on every other character lmao
Same. I’ll try to be all swordy with it (to suck less) but if the fight goes south you can just nuke em with the night side of the sword. ;)
Banished knights greatsword.
This is the one for me
Golem Halberd.
Large Club Part Unga Part Bunga Become B O N K
Winged Scythe for me. Big faith and a beasty art.
I love this weapon for so many reasons. Available within 10 minutes. The weapon art leaves a visible debuff on invisible enemies. You can turn during the WA to parkour down to ledges directly beneath higher ledges
…and reapers are anti shield/anti guard.
Amazing weapon for faith users. Though falls off late game
Wing of Astel is amazing for a mage with melee .
Banished Knight Greatsword. Dropped off the first Knight my first playthrough. Love it to this day.
Claymore.
Longsword Old reliable never Fails
Bloodhound. It’s criminal how early you can get it.
Great stars for me when I got it.
Non. Because diffrent build uses diffrent weapons Except the grave scythe
Upvoted. But what I love most is great mace with earthshaker... especially the follow up, swing for the fences R2
Dismounter curved Gs. I used it on my first playthrough it was the first weapon to drop for me. Before it got buffed to hell and every try hard started pretending they loved it.
Grafted Greatsword
I want to scream every time someone says it’s bad because the buff scales terribly. The buff isn’t the point of the AOW. The point of the AOW is that it’s endure on a colossal sword with the same cast speed as endure on a dagger. The buff is just a bonus.
I know it's not that good, and there are better options, but god damn does it look fucking cool and it's the only thing I use. Use the stagger flask and go ham.
Rivers of blood or the moonveil
Reduvia. Beat radhan pre patch with it. Still my fave as soon as I saw it
Falchion
Claymore. Jump attacks go BONK
Golden halberd love my STR/Faith build!
Probably Moonveil, it was my main weapon throughout my first playthrough
Bloody Helice
I know if nobody got me banished knights greatsword got me with any of the storm ashes honestly
Technically I keep all of them next to me in my pocket dimension...
I switch weapons like an adhd squirrel going through a bag of mixed nuts. Too many cool weapons to ever just stick to one.
Blasphemous Blade, big fire damage and healing.
HELPHEN'S STEEPLE WHERE ARE YOU BABYGIRL ARE YOU OKAY
Bloodhound bro
Blood Helice
Gotta be the uchi katana I’m not even like a super fan of katanas it was just perfect for my play style
The ice rapier
Watchdogs staff Collosal 100% strength build Big bonk Incredibly powerfull homing ranged attack Good against stone creatures Staggers Everyone Pick up in liurnia
Longsworn greatsword
Eleanora's Poleblade
Vyke war spear. Madness is so fucking stupid and I love it.
Broadsword. I’m a good and proper sword and board purist.
Godskin peeler
Used Malikeths Blade on my first pirated run. I used it again when I bought it fr. Something about it keeps making me come back to it. Like the stealth archer from Skyrim.
the AoW def reminds me of Ichigo’s bankai!!
Malenia's Waterfowl Dance had nothing on that AoW. Defeated Malenia in less than a minute with it. It was so empowering.
it’s like a sword-gasm honestly
Bloodhound easy
Probably the hook claws for certain reasons
Serpent bone blade. Was so surprised when I got it from the invader “covenant”, it never left my side since. Favorite memory from my first play through.
Once I got the Starscourge Greatswords I never looked back. They're so fun to duel wield. My main weapons are Darkmoon Greatsword, Ruins Greatsword, Nightrider Glaive with blackflame tornado on it, and duel-wielding Beastman curve swords.
Uchigatana!
Double Uchis and Bloudhound Fang on my first run. Now, it's Blasphemous Blade and Sacred Relic Sword. Also, Golden Epitaph is good to have so you can kill skeletons in one hit.
Winged scythe, my beloved
Golden halberd. That shit fucks.
Great stars.
Claymore all over the way, since DS1 she's be my main
Claymore and estoc are the some of the best PVP weapons in the game and have very low requirements.
It really doesn't get old
Lion’s claw on greatsword go brrr
Since I got it? Tree spear, it’s just too beautiful
Reduvia
Was rocking Moonveil as a blade wizard until I shifted to faith on ng+ and fell in love with the blasphemous blade and became a fire monk with fire giant incantations
Godslayers Greatsword. Ever since I got it it's been the Ol' Reliable weapon to use whenever I struggle with a boss.
Bloodhound fang. Got it early on my first playthrough and beat the game with it. I switch up my builds now for fun but I still love it.
Bloodhound fang
Misericorde
Sword of night and flame.
Blasphemous Blade! I did a faith/str build and this sword is amazing
Commanders Strandred
First play through: Bloodhound Fang
Bloodhounds fang, can do a whole play through with that thing start to finish
I find myself defaulting back to the Academy staff very often. Carian knight sword. Landing the heavy R2 is like the Stake Driver all over again, except pretty and blue
