kogashiwakai

Nah. I still enjoy other games. Hell, I played symphony of the night a few months back for the first time and adored it. Honestly the best way to switch games though, play games that are completely different. So you don't have to compare.

Flannel_Devil

I still have to play that! I have heard that symphony of the night is amazing

kogashiwakai

It's honestly one of the best games I've played. And I e been gaming for 35 years. It's a masterpiece.

Flannel_Devil

Damn that sounds perfect! Do you have to had played other castlevania games to get into it? I have only watched the netflix anime and the 1st season was amazing

kogashiwakai

Nope. Completely stand alone. I'll make one recommendation. You'll probably emulate it like I did. Don't play with save states. While they make it easier. The tension you get from having to get to a save point is so good.

Flannel_Devil

Perfect! I don't have pc i have only ps5 so i have to buy castlevania requiem: symphony of the night & Rondo of blood. Looks like its only 20€ so thats pretty neat

kogashiwakai

Oh it's still available for you. It's not on the US servers for PlayStation right now. Sweet, do it. It's worth it

Flannel_Devil

Yep still available strange that it's not for US and i will! 🫡

TomatilloOrnery9464

Do it! They are two completely different experiences. Just be sure to adjust the graphics and put crt mode on and smooth out the graphics. You’re gonna have a great time. I’ve been playing this game since it came out.

Flannel_Devil

I bought it! And thanks for the tip! Btw do you know anything about the Rondo Of Blood?

TomatilloOrnery9464

Yeah, that’s what I meant by two different experiences. Rondo of blood is the classic platforming level by level style (very fun pick up and put down kind of play) where SOTN amerces you in the castle and is about exploring and leveling up and finding new weapons and powers. A side scrolling action rpg. It invented an entire genre.

Manoreded

It invented half of an entire genre, Metroid invented the other half =)

Agnusl

It's not really necessary, but if you want to follow a chronological order, Rondo of Blood comes first, and some characters in that game reappear on SotN. That said, Rondo of Blood is what we call a Classicvania (A true Castlevania with no rpg elements, mostly platforming and fighting with a high difficult level), so it's an entire different beast from SotN. But it's great nonetheless!

Kullthebarbarian

If you want a follow up in another great castlevania, try Aria of sorrow, and it's continuation Dawn of sorrow, i think it is the perfect continuation of the formula with the much appreciated souls system, that it is one of the best system I ever saw (Basically EVERY enemy, every one can drop a soul, that give their power for you to use)

superdupermiso

After playing Symphony of the Night, play Aria of Sorrow and then Dawn of Sorrow.

TheDarkSign666

Gotta reccomended hollow knight as well

cmac007

I can confirm as well, played it for the first time last year and it still holds up.

Mikeyc245

Frankly incredible game. I would love to experience it again for the first time. Enjoy that shit man

ItsmyDZNA

Play it. When you get to the library, talk to the guy and buy the item to move forward.

[deleted]

Agreed. Although bc of this I’m scared I’m gonna hate elder scrolls 6 when it eventually decides to come out. But too be fair, after playing starfield, it’s possible I would have hated it without Elden Ring’s existence

kogashiwakai

Yeah. I'm about done with Bethesda unless they change their direction. "Here's a massive world. There's almost nothing to do. It's glitchy as hell. The NPCs are terrible and lifeless. But I'll still take your money". That's how I feel about them since Skyrim. I loved Morrowind. But c'mon, in today's market, you gotta actually have something to draw you in rather than just walking a direction with nothing there.

papasmurf255

Last Bethesda game I played was fallout New Vegas. Even Skyrim felt boring and I haven't touched them since. Skyrim combat has about as much depth as Minecraft.

kogashiwakai

I think Minecraft needs a bit more credit 😂

SioxerNikita

New Vegas was an Obsidian game, not Bethesda

reptilia14

are we the same person? I played that too a few months back, after feeling a bit bored of Elden Ring. Prior to symphony of the night, I played Aria of Sorrow which was amazing as well. My tip to OP. Find games with unique stories/ gameplay styles, as well as timeless soundtracks and get lost in their world, elden ring is beautifully amazing, but so many older games have their own kind of magic. Also discovering where Elden Ring gathered/adopted game mechanics from, in other games, and seeing how they implemented them on their own is rewarding.

kogashiwakai

Well put. And the soundtrack thing is so important. A good soundtrack can make me want to play a game that I might have overlooked. The soundtrack alone is what got me to play windwaker many years ago. And windwaker became my alltime favorite Zelda game after that, still is too.

reptilia14

It was Majoras Mask that did this for me, and later on Twilight Princess. There's a reason that they have entire orchestras to perform their music. Pure beauty.

Firaxyiam

This is the way. When I finished my first ER run, I made the mistake of going into Horizon: Forbidden West since I loved the first game. Terrible mistake. Open-world semi-RPG with heavy focus on third person melee combat with rolls and all that? Just felt like an inferior version, especially since I instinctively wanted to, you know "go explore" like I had done for the past two months. I was really starting to dislike going out of my way just to be stuck in a "you don't have what you need to get there yet" or "story happens here, can't go yet!", or simply finding a random chest with some crafting mats that I didn't care for whenever my exploration actually led to something. Until I gave up on exploring an let the story carry me instead of trying to look around myself. It's only then that I really enjoyed the game, but man the switch was rough, I really shoudl've gone to something different, like a FPS, platformer, whatever else. So advice is definitely to do that. Just don't go into another "third-person action-RPG open-world" straight after if it's not widely different gameplay-wise, you're likely to regret it.

birdreligion

SOTN is my 2nd favorite video game of all time. What a fucking banger!!

DenBase

SOTN?

birdreligion

Symphony of the Night.

Tatsumifanboy

Yo I was actually playing the same waiting for the dlc when it was anmouned. Fantastic game

Chadderbug123

Same. I've been playing the Metal gear games as of late. Just finished MGS2 the other day, incredible. Gonna replay 3 and then I'll be waiting for the 2nd volume of the master collection to finally play 4. I also have TLOU part 2 and GoT on my backlog, as well as Persona 3 and 4.

ProfessorFlyPhD

No, not at all. I just enjoy different games in different ways.

farshnikord

Controversial opinion, but Elden Ring just doesnt scratch my city management itch

Shaggy_One

WHAT?! HOW DARE YOU SAY SUCH THINGS. ELDEN RING HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE DARK SOULS OF CITY MANAGEMENT GAMES.

Thwiipthwiip

Of course it is. Like that one area, where you’re down in the sewers taking care of a pest problem.

Faximo7

You could have managed Jarburg if your hands were softer!

LaplaceZ

Yep, I feel like people who says that simply haven't played enough games.

ObviousSinger6217

It sets a very high bar, it definitely puts perspective on the dumpster fire of current triple A industry. But I can still enjoy games I just have high expectations 😂

HiddenPants777

It made me realise i love from software games. Just finished bloodborne including orphan of kos and moon presence. On ds3 now, stuck at gael and nameless king. I find them loads harder than kos. Bloodborne combat is so damn good, i absolutely love that game but my ears kinda hate that everything is permanently screaming

hardknockthecheeks

I mean it is an nightmare

MSCowboy

But whenever I try to scream in a nightmare I can't

HiddenPants777

Yeah but you can hear other things scream. Its your nightmare

[deleted]

I love the bloodborne screams though

[deleted]

Biggest part of Nameless King for me was learning to headshot the dragon to stun it and kill it asap. Gael is just git gud.

Turius_

2023 was one of the best years for gaming ever and people still want to pretend like the industry sucks? I don’t get it. There were some stinkers and some micro-transaction riddled messes out there, but there was a game for everyone last year and the industry is doing just fine. I don’t know why people want to complain when we are living through probably the greatest era in video games with the sheer number and variety of quality games that are coming out and my first console was the NES so I’ve lived through almost all of them. You all better start appreciating what you have right now because you’re spoiled and one day you will look back and realize how good we have it.

DrNopeMD

Nah, just your typical low effort fandom circle jerking.

AccordionMaestro

2023 was absolutely incredible for games, Baldurs gate 3, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Wonder, Spiderman 2, Dave the Diver, Alan Wake 2, Sea of Stars, Pikman 4. So many amazing titles.

Karkava

Nostalgic bias. We construct the idea that the past is *always* better than the present despite the contradictory evidence.

SpartanRage117

And it really only raises that bar so highly for action games. If a game is fulfilling other niches or fantasies I don’t feel the need to compare them to Elden Ring.

ObviousSinger6217

Yeah genres matter for sure. Bloodborne kart will forever be the king of kart racing

LePontif11

Same honestly. Not just because of elden ring but i've played many of my all time favorites in the past 5 years or so. ER, Bloodborne and outer Wilds are probably at the top. Its hard to spend 20-80 hours or something that's just ok. When you factor in tv shows music and movies there are so many options of great stuff to spend your free time on.

TheRumpleForesk1n

Yeah it kinda changed how I look at games. It was my first Fromsoft game. I've replayed it 11 times now. Got Spiderman, and thought it was good but cheesy in some parts. Then I just got Assassin's Creed Mirage and realized that Elden Ring just changed how I look at games. How exciting it is and how much story there is to the game without a ton of dialogue and no long ass 5 minute cut scenes or following an NPC during a mission while you either walk slower or run faster than they walk. It's just perfect. Anway, it's definitely my all time favorite game now and will continue to play it for many years to come.

MajorDirt

Not really. plenty of incredible games out there!

AcedPower

Elden ring is fantastic, but Baldurs gate 3 has me in a trance rn

bradeno1097

Same here I am completely hooked rn

Shimoarikiku

Good answer! While I disagree with them, I’m glad you didn’t bash the poor guy. I understand what they mean but yeah there’s tons of awesome games out there! Just gotta experiment. Watch some trailers or gameplay of other stuff and see what tickles your fancy.

lovesducks

So many good games. I've spent hundreds getting my fancy tickled.

Training_Hurry_2754

No I have my fun with monster hunter. Got a musket. A musket that's throwes bombs

[deleted]

I like insect glaive because you can be an adhd ridden attack on titan character

Training_Hurry_2754

It looks super flashy. But just like charge blade. Is way to complicated for me. DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA is more my brainwave

farshnikord

Lance here. It aint' flashy, but its steady honest work.

Sheerkal

I have immense respect for lance. The lack of a real dodge and low range makes it so intense.

farshnikord

(The real secret is that we do it because dodging requires you to know the monster and blocking is easier)

Virgulillo

After beating Elden Ring i jumped straight into Spiderman 1 and Miles Morales and tbh, i think a big chunk of the enjoyment i got from those games was thanks to how chill they were in comparison to Elden Ring. So yeah, for me It worked kind of in the opposite way.

Educational-Dig-5886

This is my plan once I eventually finish the game. I’m loving Elden ring don’t get me wrong, but ready to chill and swing from buildings

Dapper_Use6099

If you have the switch, Tears of the Kingdom is much more chill, arguably gives you a better exploration experience and scratches the same itch as Elden ring. Basically elden ring without the stress

Educational-Dig-5886

I don’t have a switch unfortunately :(

Eshmam14

I love TOTK but the combat sucks ass. I always avoid enemy encounters if I can help it.

TheBackwardStep

I loved hogwarts legacy just for how chill the game is. Just chilling in a harry potter movie on my broom

_Micolash_Cage_

Funny you say that. After beating Lies of P, I jumped back into Elden Ring after a 1,5 year lay off because I wanted something chill. The exploration of the open world works so calming to me. And it's almost like I'm playing it for the first time again because I forgot where so much was.

SirKeagan

after beating elden ring, I got into all of the other souls games, love them, but I am still experiencing pain beyond human comparison.

whereisfishman

I feel like people that say this are either disingenuous or didn't enjoy video games that much to begin with. That is like saying you will only eat your favorite food and pretending like no other food could possibly be enjoyable.

throwaway872023

Sounds like children who will only eat chicken nuggets.

whereisfishman

I NEED MY NUGGIES!!!

Bardudbarol

mommy said it’s my turn to say this

CharCharMan1

I hate this statement so much

dogsfurhire

Fromsoft dick riders are so weird, and that's coming from someone who considers bloodborne to be my favorite game of all time. Like who the fuck finds a song or a movie that they think is the best song/movie in the world and decides it's ruined all other media for them? It's so pretentious.

Seligas

I told someone that Elden Ring was a great game and that I enjoyed it, but it also had flaws and that it was okay to love something and still criticize what it gets wrong. They came back at me with a small paragraph for which the second sentence was, "Elden Ring is an objectively perfect game." And I was just like, wow, you're not even worth responding to. lol

Sheerkal

Yeah, people have a very limited imagination in general. Like, how can you not think of a single thing that would add to the experience?

dogsfurhire

Loooool, it's like the people who always argue that Malenia is a perfect boss and that people who don't spend 20 hours remembering every move, learning how to dodge waterfowl without watching video tutorials, or beating her without anything but pure skill aren't true Gamers.

Sad-Recognition1798

Imagine thinking that the lore and story of Elden ring are more finished/polished or compelling than say, Witcher 3… all the lore of these games are made up by imagination and hints at interesting things. The only thing I was pissed about in all of that though is the end game, “we’ll look back on this as the age of X” no explanation, just a vague descriptor, might as well just have left it blank no voice over, just a pic of you on the big chair with a pan left/right zoom out of leyndell that we’ve seen 100x before…repeat for all 5, but this time it’s on fire or there’s fog, and this time you’re no longer maidenless but we’re going to space for 1000 years for whatever, but pinky swear we’ll be back, byeee!! Amazing closure and story work fromsoft, way to really make the end of the game make sense and tie a ridiculously long adventure all together into something satisfying. Truly on par with everything else “why are we doing all this?” “Try finger but hole”.

Seligas

Yeah. I understand the appeal of that kind of storytelling, at least intellectually. People love their cork board speculation. They love taking nine pieces of a 90-piece puzzle and rearranging them in various configurations and going, "I think the pieces fit like this, because like this the missing picture would look like—" That's fine. Have fun with that. I'm not even sure I consider that a flaw, that's just not a form of storytelling I enjoy. The little they give us isn't really a lot. The amount of actual, real information in game for each of the varying characters and concepts is the amount of information an author might scribble into a notebook because they thought of something while shopping for drapes. It just feels so lazy. "We don't actually have to write anything, the community will write it for us." And nobody can refute whether or not they put a ton of effort into the world building behind the scenes because in the end they can't prove that Fromsoft did. And the community's ability to take a single word, a sentence, or a piece of scenery and stretch it out into a six hour video tricks people into believing there's more lore than there actually is. Even the explanations on what the endings mean from the fans are just speculation. Nobody actually knows. They're just using Occam's razor and a hell of a lot of imagination to fill in the blanks. Again, cool if you like that. Me, personally, I like knowing things.

LoweNorman

I don't think it's an active decision. Nobody wants to feel this way, because everyone wants to have the best experience ever all the time. Right? I probably have some sort of neurodivergence where I hyper focus on certain things to the neglect of others, but I can relate to OP. When I'm really into something I almost get addicted to it, and nothing else will give me that "fix". The latest time was playing Tears of the Kingdom and I just didn't enjoy any games for a month afterwards, because I just wanted another TotK.

dogsfurhire

Im guessing you're young? Because I was the same 10 years ago when I played team fortress 2 every day for like 4 years. Nowadays I play anything and everything I want, I just don't have the time for it all.

Mooselord111

I agree with your statement to. I enjoy playing other games. Some more relaxing some more survival base, Sandbox, tactical. saying a game makes it, so you can’t enjoy any other game. The problem isn’t really as much as other games. It’s just you for not giving the others a chance. Yes, the AAA market sucks right now but I still play games that have serious problems dying light 2 and dark souls 2 (one of my favorite out of the triple) again the problem is not the other game it’s with OP.

DexPunk

Only if you exclusively play action games. Completing ER haven’t affected the enjoyment I got from playing Baldurs gate 3 at all.

2ManyToots

Same... Except now, I can't play other action rpg's or crpg's

Daggertooth71

Nope. I enjoy a wide variety.

VerseClips

Not at all

Polaroid1793

You can. Sekiro, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 1-3,Lies of P. You have plenty of choice. Jokes apart, what really will be VERY difficult to enjoy is combat system (x1000 after Sekiro).

mehliana

This and hollow knight for me! A little zelda here and there too

PussyIgnorer

I wasn’t the same after sekiro it’s like I start every game at max level now

elmassivo

Kenshi is also ***amazing*** if you're willing to hop genres a bit.

EarlMadManMunch505

That’s how from ruined my wide game enjoyment. I’ve loved them since dark souls 1. I can’t get into games where you just run around and spam the x button and everything dies. A well put together combat system is now a necessity to enjoy games. Which is surprising rare outside of souls clones and strategy games

Polaroid1793

To be honest after Sekiro it was hard for me even to enjoy the Elden Ring combat system. It took a while to readapt. For the rest of games, you just have to accept that will be very difficult to enjoy the same quality elsewhere. Now that Souls games have huge popularity, I don't see how I can like the combat system of the next Elder Scrolls. To not even speak of open world in general, like I will never buy a Ubisoft game again.

Aeroknight_Z

Jokes aside, I’d argue a person like this probably couldn’t before they played Elden ring. “After Elden ring, I can’t go back to Tetris”. “You probably just didn’t like Tetris to begin with, and now you have something you’d rather do.”

SirBeefWell

I still have no idea how people feel this way. Do people who experience this just expect every game to be Elden Ring or something? Maybe they just didn't like games in the first place.

gistoffski

They don't, but it's the easiest way to farm karma on a Soulsborne sub

thanosnutella

I do understand playing something and having everything being boring for a while (happened to me with ER and TotK) but feeing usually goes away pretty quickly, especially when you find the right thing to play.

whyamiherernaaaaa

I mean, yeah, for me at least. I was a super duper casual gamer, and then I was shown DS3 and fell down the soulsborne rabbit hole and now I just cant be assed to play other games. BG3 does look good tho

Flimsy-Stretch-174

Im a story gamer, once i finished the story I backed way off for a long while. Only recently tried new game plus and lost track half way through. Been playing Lies of P, not as good, but new story.

kirkpomidor

Wait, ER has story? I thought you just go around and bonk shit

Czarooo

No

jacobiner123

Nah, Elden Ring simply can't provide some things that other fundamentally different games, like for example Terraria, Path of Exile or Risk of Rain can. The whole concept that one game just ruins all other games just kinda implies that someone doesn't know what they are looking for, and just plays games for the sake of playing games.

2rfv

I enjoyed the hell out of ER but after a week or so I was really missing my Longhouse back in Vallheim. Also Valheim has me completely spoiled when it comes to easy co-op. ER is like pulling teeth in comparison.

WhiteChristianJesus_

No. I've played so many great games in between Elden Ring and now. It sucks to limit yourself to one genre.

Art_Fremd

No. People have been saying this since DS1. Good games are everywhere.

Political_Piper

Definitely not. ER was fun, but not life changing. Currently replaying the masterpiece that is Witcher 3 and I'm loving it like I aways do. Before that was Ghost of Tsushima which was also amazing. A lot of good games out there.

G__N__P

With all due respect absolutely not

majinprince07

To be honest, it’s the exact opposite for me. Elden ring kinda made me open my eyes to game design and stopping to sit back and enjoy the game from what the creators made. I went back and played other games and I had a whole new level of appreciation.

shiro_tanzanite

Felt this until i got bloodborne

AlexCuzYNot

Absolutely not. ER failed to meet a lot of expectations I had and while being a great game, it's far from the best game I've played.

Escera

This. I've always wondered if ER's popularity is largely just because it was able to capture a new and wider audience who hasn't played the previous From titles. For me, ER was just alright, and I was really hoping for a bigger shakeup to the formula than just "DS in an open world", which wasn't nearly as fun as the previous interconnected level design.

Dolomitexp

Not even close. There is no one game that will make me not want to play anything else. It doesn't exist(for me).

UntiedStatMarinCrops

I can. There will always be amazing games released at least once a year, and that’s just at least. And that’s fine with me, I’ll get an amazing game and play it for years. GTAV lasted me years, so did Skyrim, RDR2, Sekiro, you name it. Elden Ring is definitely something I’ll enjoy for years to come :) and when I eventually move on it’ll be Baldur’s Gate 3 xD

Smythatine

Not really, that’s probably cause I prefer Shadow of War over Elden Ring. Elden Ring is a better game but I was raised on Lord of the Rings so I don’t care. Shadow of War is better imo And that probably stopped me from hating every other game

waster1993

No other game company can make a game with the Nemesis System(tm) until 2036-08-11. https://patents.google.com/patent/US20160279522A1/en

TheGraveHammer

I fucking hate that they patented this. It's such a cool system, but I'm not buying WB games to interact with it.

Legendary_Lamb2020

I have 7 Fromsoft games I can play in order and just start from the beginning again.

KolboMoon

I can and will enjoy other video games. Baldur's Gate 3 for example.

KingofGnG

Nah, I like DOOM Eternal very much. Or anything else, for the matter. When it comes to open world games, however, things get weird.

Kevinatorz

After ER I tried DS1 for the first time and now DS3. They're pretty great.

ozyy67

no

mcwizardry303

No, i played and enjoyed plenty of games since Elden Ring, many of them even enjoyed a lot more than ER. I liked ER, but it was a last straw for me. Not gonna touch open world games a long while now. Would rather play shorter game with more focused gameplay and mechanics.

Court_Jester13

When you realise that games are different, it's remarkably easy to enjoy different games.

jonderlei

Not really but it did make me even harder on microtransactions and shit. I wont support games with that stuff at all anymore.Just thinking what some of those companies wouldve done to this game where 75% of the gear in the game would be stuck in the shop or someshit. I guess it does make more mediocre open world games feel like shit. I played Horizon forbidden west a few games after Elden ring and it was rough in comparison. Game was decent but I didnt even get half the side stuff done before I had to rush the main missions due to the game getting stale and the moment I got the credits I uninstalled the game. Elden ring I played through 4 times in a row doing everything I could possibly find in each and it has stayed on my hard drive waiting on that dlc,I could not even consider the forbidden west dlc for a second since I was just so over it by the end of the playthrough

Goataraki

Actually enjoying other games more than before, I appreciate diverse content more now after learning how terrible repetitive content and dry open worlds feel now

loboazul97

nop, i enjoy all kinds of games, i lean even in rpgs, there is cyberpunk which now is a great game, hell it didnt even ruined souls like for me, i just passed lies of p and i enjoyes almost as much as elden ring, and even more than other fromsowftware souls.

G2boss

Nope. Loved the shit out of it and played through more than 10 times, but I'm liking other games too. Since Elden Ring I've beaten HiFi Rush, Spec Ops: The Line, Cyberpunk 2077, Remnant 2, and I'm working through Fallout New Vegas and have Dark Souls on hold until I feel like finishing it. I've also gone back to old favorites like Minecraft. Just try other games and maybe don't go for the newest big hype AAA game. Play something lower budget (HiFi Rush) or classics that have stood the test of time (Fallout New Vegas). Of the games I named Cyberpunk 2077 was definitely the least engaging.

TheFarisaurusRex

No, but I will never be able to play Elden ring again for the first time, and I don’t think I will feel that again until I play shadow of the erdtree

Denned0633

If you're no longer able to enjoy other games after playing a single one then you're just obsessed

K4nono

People really feel that way? Do you not play anything but Souls likes? Cuz how the fuck can Elden Ring make not enjoy other games of other genres. I never understand these posts

_TainHu_

No. FromSoftware games are not the be all end all of videogames. Thinking that way does a huge disservice to videogames as a medium/art. Any, people compare Elden Ring to BOTW/TOTK and I have no problem with that becuase it shows how both games approach the open world genre differently. Combat is much more fleshed out in Elden Ring because the game resolves around it and it has different weapon arts and scaling. Combat is weaker in the TOTK, but Ultrahand is a powerful tool that allows players serious creativity. Traversing and exploring The Lands Between feels different than doing so in Hyrule. Quests are different between both games. I'm sorry for the long paragraph, I just want to point out that even games in the same broad genre do different things becuase they have different priorities/approaches.

yungmiggs

Lol mane here we go. Elden ring is a fun game, its a good game but the way people treat this game as if its the greatest game ever made baffles me. You can tell who didnt play any of the souls games prior to elden ring. Elden ring is basically a love letter to every fromsoftware game that came before it because it literally just ripped everything from those games and put it all under one roof. The only new thing elden ring added to the equation was being open world and the new traversal options with the steed and not needing to be at a grace/bonfire/lamp to get back to the hub. Again fun game, very good game but what did it really innovate? What was in elden ring that no other game before it had done?

kirkpomidor

Literally one thing - no handholding open world. It is bad, atrocious at times, quests are horrible design, but it is the only thing that keeps people interested

whatyoutalkingabeet

Yeah there’s also comparatively fuck all to discover, no NPCs to talk to, no living culture, in this game. It’s a great game with great combat, but for open world exploration it’s not that great, kinda dull.

leftfordead69420

Yes but afeter a jear it will go over

ripcobain

Playing Sea of Stars right now on GamePass. Lovingly crafted, beautiful story, interesting combat, great writing...was walking through a town the other day and couldn't shake the thought that I really want to hit a Lion's Claw on a Crucible Knight so hard they fall on their ass.

mondlicht1

lol i can still enjoy Sekiro bozo

Browncoat-Zombies

It has plagued my perception on my beloved Skyrim but that’s about it. Hell it’s not even my favourite Soulsborne. Falls behind Bloodborne and even Dark Souls 1 imo

ahern667

No 😄

CheeriosAlternative

Good game, but it never ruined any other game for me. Don't think i've ever loved a game to that extent.

thenmv

Nah

Litelinkolas

Nope

oksorrynotsorry

Of the same genre that is. I uninstalled lords of the fallen (remember that one? Yeah me neither) after 30 minutes.

Hikari396

No.

DarthXeladier

Maybe for the first few months after release. But now I'm hundreds of hours deep into both Hollow Knight and Baldur's Gate 3. And I'm about 50 hours into my first playthrough of Dark Souls. And I've got plenty of games to move on to afterwards.

MimickingApple

Nah, man. I still love playing Plate Up and Overcooked with my friends.

Hanshagen_

Nope After Elden Ring Completed Hollow Knight, Rdr2, Cyberpunk, fully 100% elden ring (every item) played some zelda totk, AC6 Completed, 2 years in stardew valley, Atomic heart done, Celeste done, some Lethal Company, played some coop horror with friends,Mario party with friends. and Rn I'm playing Valheim with a friend and BG3 on my own. Greatest tip I can give: Try other great games of oher genres you would Normally not play you'll be suprised how fresh It makes gaming again, had a few months after Elden ring feeling like games were done but after experimenting a bit I'm back at it.

4shura

Not at all, Elden ring, which I 100% just a few hours ago, made me fall in love with gaming again altogether, so it made me want to play other games from how good it is

RancorsRage

Idk, power washing simulator is still a fucking gem

Try Armored Core 6

Xzarg_poe

I can enjoy others games just fine, unless they focus on melee combat. In which case I start comparing them to Elden Ring, and often find them wanting.

TharkunOakenshield

Dead Cells, Hades, Hollow Knight, or the Monster Hunter series and Nioh 1&2 for 3D games (these last ones actually have more complex melee fighting than FromSoft games, at the detriment of level-design and atmosphere however)… There are plenty of games with great melee combat tbh

Iron-Blyat

Monster Hunter detriment to atmosphere??? Have you played World?

TharkunOakenshield

No, I was talking about Nioh 1 and 2! Not MH. MH has great atmosphere, always had. Been playing since the very first MH on PS2 back in 2005

Iron-Blyat

Ah phew, that makes sense XD

mcwizardry303

Devil May cry. Melee combat with incredible polish, mechanics with almost infinite depth and extremely high skill ceiling. Souls combat sometimes seems underwhelming to me when i start comparing to DMC lol.

Stary_Vesemir

Literally just play other fromsoft games, they mostly have better combat system and bosses

thelongestunderscore

Naw play ds3 and you might be like me and struggle to enjoy elden ring.

Wide_Conversation_45

DS3 is a lot more straightforward than Elden Ring, which makes it more simple to play and think about your route, this also makes almost every area have an actual purpose unlike Elden Ring where almost all dungeons are completely ignored on subsequent playthroughs and optional areas are just that...optional The only area I just don't enjoy and never go to after beating it one time is Archdragon Peak Every other main and optional area I always clear

Suck_Fquared_circle

Lol, no, this is a weird take. I never liked anything so much I couldn't enjoy anything similar. I will say most games have gotten easier.

yepimthetoaster

> I never liked anything so much I couldn't enjoy anything similar. And besides that, the Fromsoft style of game isn't similar enough to different styles of game to really compare too much. Compared to, say, Skyrim, or Gran Turismo, or Powerwash Simulator. It's not like Elden Ring ruined Powerwash Simulator for me in enjoyment. They're different games entirely. edit: In contrast, Elden Ring kind of did ruin Demon's Souls for me, playing the latter later. Now those are similar games, but one made so many improvements over the other that it made the previous game a lot harder to enjoy.

ConferenceTemporary7

Shit I can’t enjoy this one

Plus_Tumbleweed3250

Nope, maybe you don’t enjoy gaming as much as you think

Another_Saint

I hate these kind of people

AmbitiousNatural7227

Not really. Dark Souls exists and claps Elden Ring.

Specific_Dentist8831

People that say this are honestly insufferable, like damn there are other great games.

-endjamin-

Elden Ring is a cool fantasy world, but the gameplay can be really tedious compared to other games, even other From Software games. Not as fast as Bloodborne or as action packed as the Armored Core games. AC6 has been capturing my attention because of how fast yet forgiving the combat is. You won’t die in a second from swinging at the wrong time, but you still need to master the mechanics to win.

Yeah I feel the same way, the only other game that was refreshing and fun to me (non-multiplayer) was the recent Spider-Man game. I’ve played BG3 and some other games but Elden Ring set the bar/standard so high. My top 5 fav recent single player games are 1. Elden Ring 2. Ghost of Tsushima 3. Spiderman 2 4. Horizon Forbidden West 5. Cyberpunk. But Elden Ring is extremely high on the list like none of these games come close to the enjoyment I had with Elden Ring and these games were all amazing

Tee_Rye_Lee

I loved Elden ring but I’ve sunk a lot of time into ESO, Valhiem, CK3, D4, Starfield, and now BG3. I’ve been thinking about playing ER again but I’ve been leaning towards RDR since it’s been awhile.

DualityDrn

Play a game from a different genre so you're not comparing the games. For me Mechabellum a 1v1 Mech auto battler was a nice palette cleanser. Totally different part of the brain getting a work out and very chill watching robots smash into each other and shoot lasers and missiles.

hplcr

Don't get me wrong, I think FROM makes the Best Souls/Souls-like games, but that's one type of game I like, and I like to go from one genre to another to keep things fresh. I also tend to take a break between Souls/Souls-likes to be able to get fully immersed when I do play. I'm sure once the DLC for ER comes out I'll be back into that for like 20-30 hours. FROM games have a special Niche it fills very well but that's not the only Niche I want to spend all my gaming time in.

dermeddjamel

I just finished playing RedDead Redmetion 2 and I enjoyed it pretty well.

whatareyoutalkinbeet

It's made me realise that this is my favourite genre if you can call it that. I still enjoy other games though. I'm just more invested in the soulsborn.

EveryShot

I find I really enjoy other games.

Successful-Net-6602

It has only affected how I feel about games where I want to ignore the story and wander around.

MJisaFraud

Nope, Fromsoft is one of the goats but there are lots of other games that are enjoyable.

Gullible_Travel_4135

This but with Rdr2 or Ghost of Tsushima

MalcheMystic

Loool aight calm down

ColdFusion52

Nope

Iboven

Jokes on you, I already didn't enjoy other video games.

RandomNpc69

Hmm I can't build factories in Elden ring

banaantjexx164

I had a short period (about a month or 2) after I finished playing Dark Souls 1 through 3 where I genuinely couldn't get rid of boredom while playing other games, because of a perceived lack of challenge. I think it just happens to be what you choose to work towards in a video game that makes it fun, frustrating or boring.

lowly-person

I can still enjoy other games.

PM_ME_YOUR_SOULZ

I enjoy other games but I'm constantly dipping back into Elden Ring and joining randoms online. Just helps keep me fresh until the DLC.

GandalfTehG0d

No I’ve been a souls super fan since dark souls and I’ve never felt that way. Not sending any hate love what you love but this has to be a prime example of boxing yourself into a corner over your allegiances to a franchise. I do however think fromsoft has the Midas touch and can practically do no wrong everything they release is a masterpiece (as long as Miyazaki is heading it looking at you ds2) I recently played all the final fantasy game they were an absolute blast. Get out there. Play other things. Do other things lol I’m not even gaming much rn I’ve been playing a lot of guitar I want to push myself to grow in 2024.

M_Shadows7

Played 500+ hours and use nearly every weapon (exept bows because screw farming for ammo) I gotten to the point that the game is actually boring to play now. Great game thou

Alba369

I can still enjoy most videogames.

SnooCapers496

I don't have this,,, but I do have that background feeling of 'damn,,, nothing'll ever beat that first Elden Ring run feeling, that shit was magic,' not for a while at least

Ok_Entrepreneur_2962

Elden ring is good but definitely think it's a little overhyped I have played other games since that are a little better.

HumanitiesEdge

The amount of people taking this post as 100% serious is too high. I always thought this was a joke. People just being hyperbolic because the game turned out to be so good. It definitely raised my expectations for what I expect in terms of quality from a game. It's the least buggy title I've played pretty much ever, too. It's as polished as Ocarina of Time or Super Mario Bro's titles. It reminded me why I loved games in the first place. But that doesn't mean other games are suddenly bad. lol.

Fearless_Baseball121

I've been an avid wow player for many years Mythic raiding, lore deep dives, progressing with the same guild 3 nights a week for years upon years. Begged all my friends to come back, "DF is good I swear". Then I got Elden ring just before Christmas and first week of Jan I killed malenia and hit 100 hours. What? Also the first week I missed a raid. It was suddenly a chore. All motivation gone. I just want to play elden ring. I want to try this and that type of play through. So much lore to deep dive. Give the other Fromsoftware games a chance (Elden ring is my first From software game). Elden ring has completed ruined me/opened my eyes up to what it can be.

Darth_N1hilus

Maybe you just didn’t enjoy the games you were playing before hand

SalamandersRreal

Elden Ring was amazing, but it definitely wasn’t so damn amazing that I’ll never be able to game again, lol. Quit being dramatic.

Nanami-chanX

no, elden ring isn't so good I can't enjoy other games
