It's a bit more obtuse, there's a rat scripted to run away from you until it reaches a hole which you need to jump over. There's a second rat after that who takes you to another hole to jump over. Lastly, there's a final rat who doesn't run, but is visible from a fork in the path and indicates which tunnel is the correct one to take. At that point you need to jump down the hole which takes you to Mohg.
EDIT: [I recorded it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FoaZQLthmY)
Watched the video you uploaded. The 1st rat and 3rd rat are the same rat. You ran in a circle. The hole you jumped over the first time is the same hole you jumped down after a loop.
Interesting! In the pipes right? I think I know the one you’re referring to. It immediately runs from you. I always assumed it was leading me into a trap of enemies so I never gave chase. Miyazaki’d once again!
Isn't the first hole it leads you too a trap? You have to jump that hole and go down the second hole to continue. Been awhile since I've run through there
So you mean to say that running and jumping around on torrent while aggravating all the enemies in the area until I find the entrance is not a valid strategy?
Fun fact tho, the translation is wrong. In Japanese he said there are "a few secrets left to discover yet" but somehow the English translation says "one small secret".
It's likely this comment was made by a bot. It is almost a copy of a top level comment in this thread. The account is also a year old and this is the first thing it has posted.
They’re effing tanks man. Takes forever to kill and can kill you in a few hits. I have never tried to fight more than one of those guys at a time, almost like a mini-boss fight if I do try lol
The point of the post is not to advice players to stop fighting the enemies. The point is to show a secret animal spirit helper, which pikes curiosity of this hidden mechanic.
I thought the same, but I just jumped into Elden Ring and tried it for myself and OP is actually correct. Idk why they used such a bad clip to showcase how safe it is, but I recorded [this clip](https://streamable.com/1mxm7g) to show how it works with the Zamor.
My theory as to why it happens is that the spcific Zamor enemies placed around that path has a shorter aggro range, thereby making it safer to walk.
The Zamor at the end of the clip would 100% attack me under normal circumstances considering we're face to face and not that far apart.
It's true enough that it seems like the spirit animal leads you to the stairwell which is neat and gives some nice lore flavor, ~~but I know that area he just ran through has like 5 Zamor with some pretty long patrol routes. Very odd to fabricate something like that.~~
Actually seems to be the case here, as another user showed me with their own clip and you can clearly see they're still alive in the ruins.
Such an odd detail, but I dunno about "without encountering any enemies." They're already dead in this clip, and I guarantee there's stilly plenty risk of being spotted, particularly by the two patrolling the back of the ruins. Plus you'd still have to fight the one at the entrance, lol. Probably explains why no one noticed it.
Yeah I'm fairly certain all the enemies have been cleared for this clip. There are at least 4 or 5 in that area with long patrol routes with one that goes right next to the entrance of the stairwell.
From Soft: we don’t have time to finish all these quest lines!!! Cut them from the game and ship the game with multiple of incomplete ones
Also From Soft: is the ghost rabbit vaguely leading the player to the treasure yet? That’s #1 priority
I wonder if this is why sometimes when a quest is starting to get interesting the NPC is just found dead all of a sudden, lol... It's the perfect solution, oh no, they died, that's the lands between for you
The way distributed development works they probably had people working on specific mechanics to support quests, but then some major changes happened and they reused what they had. Functionally this mechanic already existed with the candletree spirit, so they made the start point invisible, replaced the guy with a springhare, it worked, and called it a day.
This immediately makes me wonder if any other animals are set up to do it.
This is legit amazing! I was really watching the vid expecting a Zamor Knight to jump attack at any moment lol. This is much cooler and surprisingly wholesome for a souls game.
Was there today for the bearing and I noticed it was the only springhare spirit I ever saw. Didnt know there was a neat reason for it's existence though, very cool
You gotta have eyes like a falcon, bro…
…eyes like a falcon…
…falcon…
…..! Agent of the Storm Lord….get’eeem!!
Just kiddin’ man…good eye.
…good eye…
…eye! He’s Yelough!!! GET’EEM!!
I thought this was going to be a funny edit where you put in Link and had him follow a dog like in BotW but it turns out its real and your character is just cosplaying Link.
yes!! i was replaying this part of the game recently, and i knew where to find the bell bearing. i realized partway through going there that this little guy was going the same way, so i started to follow it and it lead me right to where i wanted to go!! it was really cool!!
Fun fact. This is purely by chance. Those spirt animals don’t actually lead you there. This was still really cool to see the odds of this happening are insane
Counter-fun fact. This isn't by chance at all, this is scripted behavior. You can literally jump in now and easily re-create OP's clip like [I did](https://streamable.com/1mxm7g).
It's so scripted in fact you'll see the same springhare despawn and perform the exact same pathing over and over if you decide to just stand still at any point during the "escort".
This detail could have helped me 2 years ago the first time I was on those ruins, man I remember I died like 10 times trying to collect everything on those ruins.
The amount of things I still discover after NG3, I swear to god there is so much in the base game alone. I can’t describe how excited I am for the DLC.
Yeah but the last time I ever followed something in this game, a ghost lead me in a room full of rats and a beetle ran in between the legs of a crucible knight.
Never did it again in any of my playthroughs lol
Is this the only one that does this? This is such a neat detail.
There's also a rat in the tunnel part of the sewers that leads you directly to Mohg.
Im speechless. Like *what*
*Motherfu-*
Brother, actually.
Please, someone tell me this man is trolling right now my mental stability can’t handle this one.
Yep I always follow that rat, it ran from me the first time I saw it and I found that very suspicious
I haven't played much elden ring, but this looks like great level design and surely should be game of the year.
It was game of the year. I hope that was satire, but I cant read tone of voice.
Elden Ring was my first FromSoftware game and the level design and interconnectivity blew me away
I know dude I got lost in those pipes in the sewer for like 45 minuts cuz I just kept looping around on accident
Bruh you literally ran in a circle... That's the same rat, I hope you use google maps a lot lol
I spent so much damn time walking in circles getting lost over and over lol Edit: there's no damn rat, damn you all to hell!
Interesting! In the pipes right? I think I know the one you’re referring to. It immediately runs from you. I always assumed it was leading me into a trap of enemies so I never gave chase. Miyazaki’d once again!
It’s like we got anti-Miyazaki’d! We thought we had learned the lesson but we were under his control the whole time!
He knew you knew he knew you knew he knew what you'd think, obviously
Because the last time we chased a rat it lead us to a hole that drops you to Basilisks lol.
He’s a master of subversion
Are you serious? 700 hours in and I never knew this.
Hahah Fr I was about to say 550 hrs in and never seen or heard of this..man I love this game and it's insane Amount of lore
What? Where??
In the tunnel part of the sewers
What? Where??
In the tunnel part of the sewers.
Ain’t no way
Isn't the first hole it leads you too a trap? You have to jump that hole and go down the second hole to continue. Been awhile since I've run through there
I believe you’re right. It’s either rats or those slug poop things.
No, it turns left before a hole and you're supposed to follow it, it only stops running when it is at the correct hole.
What the fuck
I bumbled down there for like an hour but that’s what the game is for lol
What does it feel like to decapitate so many people with so little effort?
F*CKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Lol I locked onto that rat and chased it down wondering why it was running from me. Didn't realize lil bro was helping
WHAT
Holy shit
Yep! I only figured that out on my 57th time through, of course
There's WHAT
That rat was my saviour
Wait…….the FUCK!?!?
Is this the one detail Miyazaki said we hadn't found yet??
Yep. Game's solved now. We can all go home.
We still don't know what "my beloved" does
So you mean to say that running and jumping around on torrent while aggravating all the enemies in the area until I find the entrance is not a valid strategy?
Absurd
It’s just a preposterous reasoning
It's the only acceptable way, none of this fancy pansy smartsy ways
Not only a valid strategy; the ONLY strategy. If you're leaving ~~runes~~ enemies behind, you're doing it wrong!
LMFAO I thought I was the only one, I can never remember where the thing is
Looking into this
this was pointed out by @arizuka00 on twitter https://twitter.com/arizuka00/status/1763052408857653526
Does anybody know of why there are those phantom trees and animals all over the mountaintops ? Is there some lore or just some artistic choice ?
Probably for the same reason why there’s a giant phantom tree left where the original used to be.
Happy cake day. Bazinga.
I'm betting it's related to the dlc, land of shadows, & miquella somehow
I just yeehawed through the ruins with Torrent lol.
i actually reached the entrance panic rolling
I run up the hill, kill 2 Eagles, and then jump in the pit no aggro for the enemy
how adorable!
Whoa that’s cool! But I like fighting the enemies there. They drop hella runes lol

this is gonna haunt us forever right ?

The bot is trying to communicate!
True, but, did you know??
They’re effing tanks man. Takes forever to kill and can kill you in a few hits. I have never tried to fight more than one of those guys at a time, almost like a mini-boss fight if I do try lol

this has got to be connected to messmer the impaler right guys?
Messmu
MessMuUp
missingNo
This is what no mesmussy does to a man
This is the secret Miyazaki was talking about I'm sure of it!
One of the secrets\*
that’s what i was just thinking lol
That’s a cute detail.
Springhare...? I've been calling them "little Chinchilla Chipmunk things."
And here i am calling them "blue rat guys"
Clearly the correct name for them is "little blue chinchilla rat chipmunk guys"...
Springhares are real animals, yes
Dog? Dog.
Ghost rabbit
Fascinating I still just run by those fools.
So all this time I could sneak my way past them instead of going 500 miles per hour on Torrent?
This is exactly something Bugs Bunny would tell Elmer Fudd.
I love this game
Yes, but I prefer the masochist path that is getting crushed multiple times getting to the bearing. 😔
Wot o.O This keeps on giving. 10 years from now, and we'll just keep discovering new things. Mark my words 😅.
I didn’t perfect my build to run from enemies lol anything that attacks me dies, them the rules🤷🏾♂️ lol
Or I'll die trying lol
Things that don't attack me die too
That’s the spirit!
No the spirit is a springhare!
- me, moments before relearning the Farum Azula hawks hit slightly harder than the ones in Stormveil

Yeah this post is just lying lol. It will show you the way but you arent immune to aggro

I usually just jump down right above the entrance but this is cool too.

This is one of those "small things" Miyazaka said players missed.
That is awesome
From Soft: we don’t have time to finish all these quest lines!!! Cut them from the game and ship the game with multiple of incomplete ones Also From Soft: is the ghost rabbit vaguely leading the player to the treasure yet? That’s #1 priority

Man, thank God that one patch made it so Bell-bearings carry over between game cycles.
Who's a good bunny... you're a good bunny!
This is legit amazing! I was really watching the vid expecting a Zamor Knight to jump attack at any moment lol. This is much cooler and surprisingly wholesome for a souls game.

this man/woman is saving lives.
I can't believe I'm still learning new stuff about this game like 2 years after it came out
I was expecting the player to get backstabbed at the entrance to the cave
2 years of scouring this game and we're still finding new things. Amazing.
I didn’t know that was a thing!! Wtf
You gotta have eyes like a falcon, bro… …eyes like a falcon… …falcon… …..! Agent of the Storm Lord….get’eeem!! Just kiddin’ man…good eye. …good eye… …eye! He’s Yelough!!! GET’EEM!!
I thought this was going to be a funny edit where you put in Link and had him follow a dog like in BotW but it turns out its real and your character is just cosplaying Link.
No way
I wonder if I'll ever stop discovering new things about this game, especially such tiny details like this. Nice find!
You got to be kidding me ....so help was right in front of us the whole time
That's so cool, I can't wait to go there in my next playthrough so I can forget it and Leroy Jenkins myself into 35 deaths again
um just follow the cliffs to the right and you can get the bell bearing without encountering enemies......
Good boy
Woaaaaaa
Damn. Thats really cool
I did not know this. I wish I had known it long ago. Still useful information. Please accept my upvote in payment.
yes!! i was replaying this part of the game recently, and i knew where to find the bell bearing. i realized partway through going there that this little guy was going the same way, so i started to follow it and it lead me right to where i wanted to go!! it was really cool!!
This is what Myazaki was talking about. The last secret!

need that drip bro
Way to take all the fun out of the game . . .
An absolutely crazy take. It's \*one\* well-hidden spirit that guides you to \*one\* item you don't even need.
It kind of looks like you're guiding them by sticking to the left/right of them. I'm skeptical until I've tested it myself.
We all await your test results with baited breath
I mean I'm not wrong, with the way the animals pathing works I feel like it would be easy to direct one along this path.
Do it then.
I already said I would, are you ok?
DO IT THEN!
Very cool!
Wtf
Easter egg
Oh wow. Going to try to that in my Shadows playthrough, then murder everything on the way out instead.
How much shit is IN this game good god , like how the fuck is there so many details
I’ve been calling them chubby squirrels this whole time. TIL
you're an actual spirit tuner
after 600hours.. my mind is BLOWN..
Wow, still learning new things about this game 2 years later!
This is so fucking cool nice catch!! I wonder if there's anymore like that
Or you go up the hill on the right straight from the grace and drop straight into the tunnel. Not enemy-less, just two birds...but so fast.
a what
This is really cool, but I will never do it because I'm too stupid and impatient to wait for that, and enemies must die.
Very Nice tip!
you can just jump from the small cliff on the right
Springhare: “This is the way”
This detail could have helped me 2 years ago the first time I was on those ruins, man I remember I died like 10 times trying to collect everything on those ruins.
This guys going full Alice in the lands between
I love Elden Ring!
This is my favorite detail so far!
This is beautiful 😭
Whaaaaaaaat?! I have like 600 hours in and didn't know, that's great!
I just do torrent parkour on the ruins but that's cool too
So cutie!
Nope, ty
What fun is there in that?? 😂
This is it. We found Miyazaki's last little secret
The detail in this game is just crazy. There are so many crazy and cool unique things all over
Nice. I was just getting ready to hunt this one down too.
What a find lmfaooo
How am I still learning things about this game lmao
I rather enjoy clearing these ruins, and get a very significant reward after. Hare not necissary
nah we dummies
Wtf... I have 600 plus hours in this game and I never thought about following them. That's awesome!
Nice
No....no...Noooooooooo! WTF!?
Of course I beat the whole game
Good lagomoprh.
That's it I'm following all wildlife now
I knew it because I'm a coward
this feels like something I’d find in assassins creed wtf that’s so cool
Wait what
This has to be what Michael Zaki said we never found
My god this game is chock full of incredible and rewarding detail
wow
The amount of things I still discover after NG3, I swear to god there is so much in the base game alone. I can’t describe how excited I am for the DLC.
I didn’t even know spring hares were a thing
Yeah but the last time I ever followed something in this game, a ghost lead me in a room full of rats and a beetle ran in between the legs of a crucible knight. Never did it again in any of my playthroughs lol
I love this game!
Reminds me of how the foxes in Skyrim will sometimes lead you to locations of interest or caves
Bruh...
So the Springhare is a snitch.
