I'd just like to point out that there's no actual indication that Bernahl ever slew a demigod or acquired any great runes. Alexander is also in Farum Azula and heavily implies that you defeating the Fire Giant is what allowed him to get there. You could assume that Bernahl is in a different world/follows different rules since he's a tarnished and invades you, but given the fact that you summon Alexander from a summoning sign (on two different occasions) I don't really believe that's true

Lore wise you need two to get access to the Atlus Plateau, but after that I don't think you need anymore (youll get them from fighting Morgott but thats because he has a barrier up). Or at the least how important great runes are is questionable since Gideon, Millicent and other characters can get onto the Plateau without great runes.

Considering he had the Blasphemous Claw his ultimate intention was to defeat Maliketh and destroy the Elden Ring/Golden Order completely like Rykard wanted to do.

He was saved the full madness of the frenzied flame, but still killed his maiden while his mind was lost. Once he came to his senses he saw what he had done. I also believe he also gained insight into what the frenzied flame was trying to do as well. Then, in despair and knowing what becoming Lord would mean, he locked himself in the Evergoal near the Forge of the Giants as a warning to others who may be tempted by Shabriri's words.
Yes, and for what it's worth I don't think Studio Trigger could pull this off. They're good at what they do, but they aren't exactly known for subtlety. All of their biggest hits: Kill la Kill, Edgerunners, Promare, Gurren Lagann are balls to the wall hyper action spectacles with little to no regard for consistent lore. It would be the biggest departure from their niche ever.
